I updated the quick search system (again), and added in a few more notes. Also, I may not make many more updates, because I've gotten into FoMT now and I can't stop playing it! (Version was finally ACCEPTED!) V 1.0----01/04/06----FINALLY! I've been accepted. This is a mini update with minor changes. Neoseeker is now allowed to use my Guide. A few minor changes to the Legal Information Section. V 1.1----01/13/06----Oh no! It's Friday the 13th! Oh well, I don't care. I have now completely re-vamped the Quick Search system. Added a "Possible Future Updates" section (which I'm going to really try hard at doing), changed a little wording around here and there, added a "My Other Guides" section (It's super short, literally), and added a "The End" section, because I didn't really like the way my guide ended. I hope to add a 'Cooking With Wild Plants' section soon, and I'm planning on making a whole new 'Girl's Wild Plant Guide'. V 1.5----02/14/06----I've been working really hard since yesterday, and I've got one of my Possible Future Updates off the list. There is now an all new "Cooking with Wild Plants" Section. I changed around a few sentences, added and took away spaces where I wanted them, fixed a few typos, and added a new Credit. I changed an old credit because, well, I accidentally wrote the name wrong, but it's correct now! I also dedicated the guide to a good friend of mine. I also added a tiny copyright line. This might be my last major update for a long time. V 1.51----02/15/06----Mini-update. www.supercheats.com is now allowed to use my guide. That's it. V 1.6----02/17/06----I have just spell-checked the entire guide. I fixed all of the typos and misspelled words. I also changed around a few words that I thought should be different, and capitalized a few things too. A few spaces added where needed. A pretty small update. V 1.7----02/25/06----New question in the FAQ section! I changed a few more words around, added a few little things here and there, and tried to make some things easier to read. I think I have perfected my guide (as well as I can, with school and homework and all). I would have completely forgotten about these guides if it wasn't for the 30 or so e-mails I received in the time since I last updated it. I finally decided to come back and update all of the information I've received. There are actually quite a few little new things! I would say I'm done with this guide, but knowing you guys, I'll get some new stuff to update this guide with soon enough. I just looked through it and saw lots of things that could use updating too. I might just come back one day and rework this guide, AGAIN! V 2.6----01/31/09----A big update! I would say this is the biggest update since version 1.3! I would hope that this is the final version of this guide, because it really takes up my time to work on these things xP. I have added 3 whole new sections, "Vocabulary", "Flowers" and "Other Wild Forage". I also completely revamped the "Wild Plants as Gifts" section, as well as alphabetized large parts of this guide. I went through the whole guide and rewrote numerous sections which could be shorter or easier to understand. I topped it all off with ANOTHER spell-checking of the guide. I hope this will be my final update xD V 2.7----02/21/09----A fairly good update! This was originally going to be an update to fix a small mistake, but I alphabetized a few more sections, reorganized the whole layout of the guide, combined the old Seasons section and prices section into 1, made the "Wild Plants and your Child" note into its own section, fixed up various layouts, updated the e-mail, legal information, what you can contribute, version history, and possible future updates sections, and gave the whole guide one last spell-check. The guide feels complete to me, and this update gave it a good polishing off! V 2.8----04/17/09----How do I always find more to update? The cooking section is all new. On top of adapting lots of information about crops and rare crops from Supermario1024's guide (as ingredients for recipes), I completely changed the layout to make it much easier to read and use the recipes. Other minor fixes were thrown in, as well. V 2.85----08/10/09----A tiny update. I've changed the gift section a little, changed regrowth to plain old growth, updated the vocab section, and updated the art gallery and "my other guides" section because I miraculously wrote another guide. Growth location of sorrel confirmed. v 3.0----09/08/09----How is it that I've done another update? I don't know! This seems to keep happening. The other day, I picked this game up again. I decided to play through at least the whole first year and collect a bunch of data, and I have. I've finally confirmed ALL of the plant growth times, and I've included some charts to show you what you can find on each day of the year. So, I wanted to write this guide because I had noticed there weren't any "in-depth" guides about the 0wild plants of HM:AWL. I'm sure some of the other guides talk about the wild plants, but I thought it would be useful to have one solely for the wild plants of Forget-Me-Not Valley. They're one of the easier-to-get gifts. Second, everything can be sold for a 'slight' profit. Third, you can eat all the edible wild plants, although they don't fill you up as much as normal food. Forth, 3 of the flowers can be hybridized with your crops. Finally, a few of the wild plants can be used in some cooking recipes. Also, you can put these plants into your dog's (or cat's) food bowl. I do it all the time! Well, I think that's about everything you can do with the wild plants. Note: For those who were wondering, there are exactly 15 different wild plants to pick. There are 8 different flowers, and 7 different edible plants. There is also the Strange Mushroom you have to eat to enter the Harvest Sprites' house, but that doesn't really count as a wild plant does it? You can't pick it and sell it or do anything with it (except for eating it). ___________________________________________________________ Wild Plants and your Child W0009 ___________________________________________________________ As your son grows up, you can influence him into choosing a particular career. Your choices are: -Artist -Athlete -Musician -Rancher -Scholar ************ -Farmer! ************ By showing him your foraged Mushrooms, Wild Plants, and Flowers, you can influence your son into being a farmer. Showing him things like watering cans, seeds, and hoes also encourages him to become a farmer. If he grows up into a farmer, he will take over your farm when you die. See how useful wild plants are? ___________________________________________________________ The Most Useful Wild Plants (IMO) W0010 ___________________________________________________________ --------------------------------- The top 5 most useful plants are: --------------------------------- Upseed Gemsoil Happy Lamp Mugwort Matsutake Upseed, Gemsoil, and Happy Lamp are probably the most important because they're the only wild plants that can be hybridized with your crops (not your trees). If you hybrid your crop's seed with the Upseed, you will get an S rank seed from that crop. The Gemsoil makes your plant be able to grow in ANY soil fertility, and the Happy Lamp makes your seed grow in ANY possible season. You can use all three on your seed, but that's not what this guide is about. I think the Mugwort is also somewhat useful because it can be used in a few recipes for cooking, and it can be eaten. If you want to know what the recipes are then you should go check the cooking section in this guide. Finally, I believe the Matsutake is also somewhat useful because it's worth a lot (100 G, it's not that much, but it's worth the most compared to the Upseed and Trumpet, tied for #2 with only a measly 25 G). I also think there are a few recipes that call for a mushroom (and a Matsutake is a mushroom!) ___________________________________________________________ Wild Plants as Gifts G0011 ___________________________________________________________ This section is all about using wild plants as gifts for towns people. People only seem to like flowers, not other edible forage like Mugwort. By the way, don't use any of those special flowers like Gemsoil, Happy Lamp, or Upseed. Save those for hybridizing your crops. Okay, here is the list of people that like flowery-themed gifts! I was disappointed when I found out what you could actually do. The truth is that you can only use 3 different flowers with hybridizing, and all they do is upgrade your crops. They don't actually make "Upseed Drops" and "Trick Amorous'". Go into Takakura's house and talk to Tartan for the hybridizing (If you don't know about Tartan or how to get him, please refer to another guide on how to get him). ------------------------------------------------------ The 3 different flowers that you can use are: ------------------------------------------------------ -Gemsoil -Happy Lamp -Upseed. If you hybrid your crop with a Gemsoil, a seed will come out that will be able to grow in any soil fertility. If you hybrid your crop with a Happy Lamp, a seed will come out that will be able to grow in any season (This is pretty cool!). If you hybrid your crop with an Upseed, an 'S' (Superior) quality seed will come out (This is my favorite one!). Well, okay. This is the first Harvest Moon game to feature hybridization, by the way. I guess it's kind of cool that you can upgrade your seeds like that. Okay. That's all I have to say on hybridization. ____________________________________________________________ Wild Plant Seasons And Prices W0013 ____________________________________________________________ Spring, Summer, and Winter each have 2 flowers and 1 Edible Plant growing during its season. Fall has 2 flowers and 4 Edible Plants (all 4 are mushrooms). Wild plants can only be sold to Van. It seems a little random, but I think that they take a certain amount of days to grow back. I have double-checked all of this information, and I'm 100% sure it is all accurate. Note: The day typed is the day that the plant grows back on. If it says it grows back in 1 day, that means it grows everyday. If it says 5 days, it means that the flower will grow ON that 5th day. ------------------------------- Plant Days ------------------------------- Amorous: 2 days Bracken: 2 days Gemsoil: 4 days Goddess drop: 2 days Hackberry: 1 day Happy Lamp: 4 days Matsutake: 3 days Mist Moon: 2 days Mugwort: 1 day Royal Fern: 1 day Sorrel: 3 days Toy Flower: 2 days Trick Blue: 2 days Trumpet: 2 days Upseed: 2 days I collected the data for each season, and it looks like this is what you should expect on the every day of each season. If anyone wants to double check this, please feel free to. Fall is the only one with unexpected results. Does anybody else get these same results? An "*" means there are weird inconsistencies in the growth data. Selling 1 year's worth of wild plants can make you almost 12,000 G! That's a decent sum of money, especially in your first years. I don't suggest selling EVERYTHING though, but it's ultimately up to you what you do with all of that wild forage. ______________________________________________________________ Wild Plant Locations L0015 ______________________________________________________________ Please remember that the plants don't grow back the next day. Some might, but if you don't see the plant there one day, try going back there another day. Apparently, it makes you shrink so you can squeeze into the Harvest Sprites' House. There are 2 of these Strange Mushrooms, and they grow back everyday. If you use them both up in one day, you can't go into the Harvest Sprites' house for the rest of the day. It doesn't really matter because after you've been in there once, there's really no reason to go again. ************************************************************* Strange Mushroom: -One grows on the left side of the Sprites' house. -Another grows on the right side of the Sprites' house. ************************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------- Flower Locations: ------------------------------------------------------------- Amorous: -All around Turtle Swamp. -In front of the log, between Cody's trailer and Turtle Swamp. -Between Cody's trailer and the hillside. ------------------------------------------------------------- Gemsoil: -The only plant that grows around Carter's dig site. It grows close to the river, and its yellowish color makes it hard to notice in the grass. There is also one right in between Carter's tent and a plank of wood that sometimes gets skipped over. Sometimes, some will grow in the bushes, a little further away from the river and up closer to the digging area, but I know you won't miss it (now that I've told you anyway). ----------------------------------------------------------- Goddess Drop: -Many grow next to the river, up where the crystal flowers are. -Right behind Vesta's farm around the windmill things. ------------------------------------------------------------- Happy Lamp: (looks like a red tulip) -On the big grassy patch of land near the mouth of the river (On the side without the GBA connection path. Also, there is a little forest by the river, and you can't enter it because it's too dense, but sometimes you'll see a Happy Lamp growing in the forest, just out of your reach.) -By the side of the hill, next to Cody's house (or trailer). ----------------------------------------------------------- Mist Moon: (Don't confuse with Toy Flower. Toy flower has 5 petals, and Mist Moon has 4) -Grows around the Sprites' Pond. -Grows in front of Galen's house (In chapter 2 and up. Before chapter 2, it's just a big empty space of grassy land below Vesta's farm). ------------------------------------------------------------ Toy Flower: (Don't confuse with Mist Moon. This is all of the other wild stuff, not including Mushrooms or Flowers. The only other use for these plants is as food, dog food, or a source of income (although they aren't worth very much). ___________________________________________________________ Mushrooms M0017 ___________________________________________________________ There are some cooking recipes in the game that call for a mushroom. Currently, I know about four mushrooms that you can use (and I think that's all that there are). Two of these "strange mushrooms" grow in front of the Harvest Sprites' house, and they grow back every day. The only thing you can do with them is eat them. They supposedly "shrink" you and allow you to enter the Harvest Sprites' house.
