[0900] ______________________________________________________________________________ 1] INTRODUCTION [0100] ______________________________________________________________________________ FAQ/Walkthrough #15 After a little scuffle, I decided to write a FAQ for Final Fantasy. I picked up Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls a while back, when it first came out. I planned on writing a FAQ on both games, and wrote about half of Final Fantasy. After playing Final Fantasy II and realizing how sucky it was, I knew that there was no way to write a FAQ for it. So, I decided to throw the FAQ into the depths of my computer, never to see the light again. Well, here I am again. I stumbled across the file and realized how much work I put into it. The thought crossed my mind for the first time ever: since I'm already halfway done with Final Fantasy, howabout I complete it and submit it alone? Well, that's what I'm going to do. Hooray for me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ VERSION HISTORY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Version 1.0 (06/25/06) - FAQ/Walkthrough complete and submitted. ______________________________________________________________________________ 2] CONTROLS [0200] ______________________________________________________________________________ .-----------------------------.----------------------------------------------. | D Pad | Move Character/Cursor | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | Start | Open/Close Menu | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | Select | Show Map (Select + B) | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | A Button | Talk, Interact | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | B Button | Cancel, Run (Hold) | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | L Button | Cycle Through Menu | |-----------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | R Button | Cycle Through Menu | '-----------------------------'----------------------------------------------' ______________________________________________________________________________ 3] THE CLASSES [0200] ______________________________________________________________________________ ============================================================================== 3.1] WARRIOR/KNIGHT [0310] ============================================================================== The Warrior is your most well-rounded character, with good stats and a little below average magic. He's got great HP, Defense, and Attack. You don't learn much magic at all, hence the low Magic Attack and Defense. As a Knight, you can only learn some basic White Magic spells, and no more. Frankly, I think you should always have one in your party, unless you're a real veteran at this game and want a challenge. ============================================================================== 3.2] MONK/MASTER [0320] ============================================================================== The Monk is the strongest character in the game, topping the Warrior's attack. He has lower HP and Defense though, but his strength makes up for it. He's best bare handed, which means that you shouldn't equip him with any weapon at any time. It will just make him incredibly weak, making him virtually useless. Monks also don't have any MP, which means that they can't use any type of magic. A Master isn't a big step up from a Monk, just better attributes. I recommend a Monk for new players. ============================================================================== 3.3] THIEF/NINJA [0330] ============================================================================== Thieves are most well known for their agility, and that's what they're really only good attribute. Agility is their best stat, and most is either average or poor. He has low MP and Intelligence. His Attack, Defense, and HP is pretty average. Once upgraded, a Ninja can use some low level Black Magic, but I would use them for their speed, not magic. I think newbies should have one in their party, but more experience players should replace them with let's say, a mage of some sort. ============================================================================== 3.4] BLACK MAGE/BLACK WIZARD [0340] ============================================================================== In my opinion, I think Black Mages are pretty useless. They have abysmal HP; the lowest in the game, and every other stat except MP and Intelligence are pretty low. They have superb magic and Intelligence and some spells that only they can get, but it doesn't help. They'll end up getting killed easily. Black Mages get better attributes once upgraded, but not enough to make them exra useful. I think you should just use a Red Mage instead. ============================================================================== 3.5] WHITE MAGE/WHITE WIZARD [0350] ============================================================================== White Mages are your healing party members, which is the most imporatnt aspect of a team. Of course they have average or poor stats, but their MP and incredibly useful and important White magic spells make up for it. Their HP is still higher than the Black Mages, and their stats are somewhat bad. White Wizards gain better spells and get stronger. Despite their average stats, White Mages are needed nearly every time in a battle and should always be in your party. ============================================================================== 3.6] RED MAGE/RED WIZARD [0360] ============================================================================== What makes the Red Mage useful is that they are the only party member that can learn both White and Black magic. Sure, they can't learn every spell that White and Black Mages can, but they learn enough to make them a very important character. They can still use basic healing spells, like Life, Protect, and Curaga. They can learn spells such as Blizzaga, Thundaga, and Firaga. They have a bit worse MP and Intelligence than the mages, but outflank them in terms of HP, Attack, and Defense. Red Wizards get stronger and can learn more spells as well. I think Red Mages are an incredibly important character to have in your party. ______________________________________________________________________________ 4] WALKTHROUGH [0400] ______________________________________________________________________________ ============================================================================== 4.1] RESCUING THE PRINCESS [0410] ============================================================================== The game starts off with you in the World Map; right in front of a city. You can walk around and fight monsters, but head inside the city first by walking over it. Once in the city, talk to the guy behind you. He will bring you to the King's Castle where he asks for your party's help. He belives you are the prophesied Warriors of Light, and he wants you to rescue his daugher, the princess. He says that he will rebuild the northern bridge if you can rescue her from the traitor Garland. Leave the castle once the conversation ends and explore the city. --- CORNELIA ----------------------------------------------------------------- You start off with 500 Gil, so there's no need to hunt for money. I will identify the shops and their symbols: Inn - Inn .-------------------------. Lamp - Item Store | ITEM SHOP | Sword - Weapon Shop |-------------------------| Shield - Armor Shop | Antidode 50G | Diamond - Sanctuary | Phoenix Down 500G | Black Symbol - Black Magic Shop | Potion 40G | White Symbol - White Magic Shop | Sleeping Bag 50G | '-------------------------' .-------------------------. .-------------------------. | WEAPON SHOP | | ARMOR SHOP | |-------------------------| |-------------------------| | Knife 4G | | Chain Mail 65G | | Hammer 8G | | Clothes 8G | | Nunchaku 8G | | Leather Armor 40G | | Rapier 8G | '-------------------------' | Staff 4G | '-------------------------' .------------------------------. .------------------------------. | LEVEL 1 BLACK MAGIC SHOP | | LEVEL 1 WHITE MAGIC SHOP | |------------------------------| |------------------------------| | Fire 50G | | Blink 50G | | Focus 50G | | Cure 50G | | Sleep 50G | | Dia 50G | | Thunder 50G | | Protect 50G | '------------------------------' '------------------------------' I recommend that you stop to the Black Magic Shop and if you have a Black/Red Mage, then pick up Fire or Thunder. Pick up Cure and Sleep at the White Magic Shop as well, because you really should have a White Mage in your party. You can only choose to have three magic spells per magic level, so choose wisely. Your magic level will increase throughout the game, letting you buy more magic and buying magic of that certain level. You can pick up a Potion or two, but not much. You might want to buy Chain Mail for your Warrior or Red Mage and a Rapier for most of your party members. Once you're done shopping, head outside to the World Map. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Get a feel for the vicinity and try to level up by fighting monsters out here. Stay close to the city walls, because you can always go in the inn and heal up if you're low on HP. Try to level up to around level 4. Once you're that level, go north past a cave on the mountainside. Don't worry about that cave; you won't have to go there for a while. Keep heading north towards the peninsula and enter the Chaos Shrine. --- CHAOS SHRINE ------------------------------------------------------------- Monsters: Crazy Horse, Gigas Worm, Goblin Guard, Lizard, Ogre, Scorpion, Tarantula, Warg Wolf, Werewolf, Zombie Items: Leather Cap, Rune Blade, Werebuster From the entrance, go to the left and go down into the small room at the end of the shrine. Open the chest inside for a Leather Cap. Give it to one of your weaker party members. Go north and enter the room to find a Tent and a Potion inside the chests. Go back to the entrance of the shrine and head north into the center of the room. Talk to the man surrounded by bats to engage in your first boss battle! "I, Garland, will knock you all down!" .-------------------------------------------------------------------------. | BOSS: Garland | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| | HP: 212 DEF: 8 EVA: 12 EXP: 130 | | ATK: 15 AGI: 6 M DEF: 64 Drop: Broadsword | | ACC: 27 INT: 12 GIL: 250 | | | | Weakness: None | | Resistance: None | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Ah, my favorite boss. Hey, he's the founder of the greatest FF1 | | catchphrase, what's not to like? For a first boss, Garland is very | | easy, that is, if you leveled up. I was level 4 when I fought him and I | | did just fine. His attacks deal a somewhat large amount of damage, so | | have your Mage (you have a Mage in your party, right?) use Cure if your | | members' HP is getting low. Physical attacks are what you should mainly | | use against Garland. | | | | Attack physically with your strong characters and if you have a Black | | or Red Mage, use Fire or Thunder. If you don't have any spells, I | | suggest going back to Cornelia and getting some. If your MP is low, | | save it if your party is low on health. Just keep hacking away and the | | big guy will soon fall. | '-------------------------------------------------------------------------' Once Garland is dead, the princess will thank you. She will ask you to return with her to Cornelia Castle, where you will be rewarded. Back at the castle, the king thanks you early and repays you by fixing the northern bridge so you can access new territory. Once you are about to leave, the Princess stops you and gives you the Lute. Exit the castle and stock up on any items or accessories in Cornelia. ============================================================================== 4.2] THE EARTH CRYSTAL [0420] ============================================================================== --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Stay near Cornelia until you're about level 5 or so, then go across the bridge to new land. Go north past the mountains and hang a left around the bend, and keep going north. You will find a small path of rocks with a cave entrance. Go inside and enter Matoya's Cave. --- MATOYA'S CAVE ------------------------------------------------------------ Stop inside and talk to the old hag. She'll mumble on about her Crystal Eye. You can't do anything now here, so just pick up the Potion and Antidote from the chests and talk to the brooms. They will tell you to access the map; press B and Select at the same time to bring up the world map. It's very useful. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- From Matoya's Cave, go back south near the bridge again but go east this time. You'll be travelling quite a long way until you reach Pravoka. There are some even deadlier monsters here, so keep your guard up. If you're seriously injured, either make a risky dash for Pravoka or turn back and make a stop at Cornelia. You will reach Pravoka past a small forest. --- PRAVOKA ------------------------------------------------------------------ Pravoka is a port town with new shops where you can buy stronger weapons, armor, and spells. It's very pricey here, so don't go all out with the spells and acessories. .-------------------------. | ITEM SHOP | |-------------------------| | Antidode 50G | | Ether 150G | | Eye Drops 50G | | Phoenix Down 500G | | Potion 40G | '-------------------------' .-------------------------. .-------------------------. | WEAPON SHOP | | ARMOR SHOP | |-------------------------| |-------------------------| | Battle Axe 450G | | Chain Mail 65G | | Broadsword 450G | | Iron Armor 640G | | Hammer 8G | | Leather Armor 40G | | Scimitar 160G | | Leather Gloves 50G | '-------------------------' | Leather Shield 12G | '-------------------------' .------------------------------. .------------------------------. | LEVEL 2 BLACK MAGIC SHOP | | LEVEL 2 WHITE MAGIC SHOP | |------------------------------| |------------------------------| | Blizzard 250G | | Blindna 250G | | Dark 250G | | Invis 250G | | Slow 250G | | NulShock 250G | | Temper 250G | | Silence 250G | '------------------------------' '------------------------------' Stay at the Inn first, then I suggest picking up Invis and Temper only. You shouldn't need to buy any armor or weapons, so walk to the far house on the left of the inn. Talk to the man blocking the door to engage in another boss fight! .-------------------------------------------------------------------------. | BOSS: Pirate x9 | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| | HP: 24 DEF: 0 EVA: 12 EXP: 40 | | ATK: 10 AGI: 6 M DEF: 35 Drop: Leather Shield | | ACC: 2 INT: 3 GIL: 40 | | | | Weakness: None | | Resistance: None | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| | These guys are pathetically easy. I don't even know why I'm considering | | them bosses. You'll probably be able to take them out with one shot. | | Have your Mage cast Sleep to put most of them, if not all of them, so | | sleep. Just pick them off one by one. If you have trouble with these | | guys, then I doubt you should be playing RPG's. >_> | '-------------------------------------------------------------------------' After the fight, the captain, Bikke, will give you his pirate ship as an apology for his rudeness and wrongdoing. Now you have a ship, which makes travelling much easier. You can dock your ship on the white ports found all over the World Map. Stay at the Inn if needed and leave town. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Directly south from Pravoka is a port wher you can dock your ship. Walk up to the water to access your boat. The controls are the same as walking. Steer your ship west and south. You can access another port near Cornelia if you need to make a stop there. If not, go south from Cornelia port to find another one. Dock your ship and walk south the the Elven Village, Elfheim. --- ELFHEIM ------------------------------------------------------------------ Elfheim is an Elven Village with a castle to the north of it. You can purchase both level 3 and 4 magic spells in this town, but you probably can't afford any level 4 spells. .-------------------------. | ITEM SHOP | |-------------------------| | Antidode 50G | | Echo Grass 50G | | Gold Needle 500G | | Potion 40G | | Tent 160G | '-------------------------' .-------------------------. .-------------------------. | WEAPON SHOP | | ARMOR SHOP | |-------------------------| |-------------------------| | Crosier 160G | | Copper Armlet 800G | | Dagger 140G | | Helm 80G | | Iron Nunchaku 160G | | Iron Armor 640G | | Saber 360G | | Iron Shield 80G | '-------------------------' | Leather Cap 65G | '-------------------------' .------------------------------. .------------------------------. | LEVEL 3 BLACK MAGIC SHOP | | LEVEL 3 WHITE MAGIC SHOP | |------------------------------| |------------------------------| | Fira 1000G | | Cura 1000G | | Focara 1000G | | Diara 1000G | | Hold 1000G | | Heal 1000G | | Thundara 1000G | | NulBlaze 1000G | '------------------------------' '------------------------------' .------------------------------. .------------------------------. | LEVEL 4 BLACK MAGIC SHOP | | LEVEL 4 WHITE MAGIC SHOP | |------------------------------| |------------------------------| | Blizzara 2500G | | Fear 2500G | | Confuse 2500G | | NulFrost 2500G | | Haste 2500G | | Poisona 2500G | | Sleepra 2500G | | Vox 2500G | '------------------------------' '------------------------------' Train outside of the village until you're about level 10 or 11. Remember to purchase Heal and Thundara. If you want to upgrade your armor, do so as well. The items here cost a lot, so you should gain Gil from defeating monsters outside. Leave town and head for the castle. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Travel west from Elfheim around the mountains, then go north through the large forest. Navigate around the two rivers and you will reach Western Keep. --- WESTERN KEEP ------------------------------------------------------------- Monsters: None Items: Falchion, Power Staff, Steel Gloves The keep is abandoned except for one person. Head through the entrance and go left, then up into the main quarters. Talk to the man to find out that he's the king. He will tell you that a dark elf, Astos, decieved him and stole his crown. The king asks you to return it to him by going to Marsh Cave so he can restore glory to the castle. You can't access the locked door with the items in it, so ignore them for now. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Elfheim to prepare for your journey. Level up around the town and gain more Gil to purchase more useful spells and items. --- ELFHEIM ------------------------------------------------------------------ Make sure to pick up Fira and Diara, which prove to be quite useful in Marsh Cave. Stock up on many Antidotes and Tents, then head out to marsh Cave. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Go west past the mountains. Head up past the forest and before the first river, go west through the mountains. Go shouth past the rocks and at the very tip of the land is Marsh Cave. --- MARSH CAVE --------------------------------------------------------------- Monsters: Anaconda, Black Widow, Bloodbones, Crawler, Gargoyle, Ghoul, Gray Ooze, Green Slime, Scorpion, Shadow, Skeleton, Tarantula, Warg Wolf, Werewolf, Zombie Items: Gil, Antidote, Broadsword, Copper Armlet, Cottage, Crown, Dagger, Phoenix Down, Silver Armlet NOTE: Identical items can only be obtained once. For example, if you find a Phoenix Down in a chest, all of the other Phoenix Downs will disappear 1F -- The Marsh Cave is your first real big dungeon. I recommend that you should be at least level 11 before you hang out in this place, so level up outside if you're not that level. Watch out for the slimes. Most of the slimes you encounter here are immune to physical attacks, so whip out the magic spells. Green Slimes and Scorpions can poison you; that's why I told you to buy lots of Antidotes. First off, go east and north from the exit. Walk down the narrow, winding path. You will reach an exit at the end of the pathway. 2F -- On the next floor, go north and east towards the door. Go inside and pick up the Dagger from the chest. Exit the room and go west past the rock pillars and into the next room. Pick up the Gil from the chest, exit the room, and go south around the stone pillars into the next room. You will find a Broadsword and more Gil. Equip the Broadsword if it gives an attack boost to any of your party members, then leave the floor through the entrance. 1F -- Back in the first floor, go back to the entrance. This time, head south, and keep going south past the fork in the road. Go past the room and go through the door on the eastern side. You will find another ladder leading to the basement. Go down the ladder to the last floor. 3F -- The basement is a giant floor filled with small rooms which all hold chests. The four bottom rooms are locked and cannot be opened yet, so ignore them. From the ladder, go douth and into the first room to find a Phoenix Down. Go east to the last room and pick up the Gil inside. Head south to the next row of rooms and go west into the third room. Get the Cottage inside, then on the next room is a Copper Armlet. It's very useful, so have someone equip it. Proceed south from that room past the pillars. The first room is empty, but the room to the right of it is where the crown is. Go inside, but when you try to open the chest, you are ambushed. Boss time! .-------------------------------------------------------------------------. | BOSS: Piscodemons | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| | HP: 84 DEF: 16 EVA: 66 EXP: 276 | | ATK: 30 AGI: 33 M DEF: 98 Drop: N/A | | ACC: 21 INT: 18 GIL: 300 | | | | Weakness: Lightning | | Resistance: Fire, Stone, Poison, Sleep, Confusion, Ice, Paralysis, | | Darkness, Silence, Mind | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| | See, this battle is kind of strange. The reason is because you'll fight | | a random amount of Piscodemons. It could be two; it could be seven. | | It's totally randomized. They have a pretty high attack, so watch out | | for that. Use Protect to help reduce the damage if you have the spell. | | Their health is pretty low, so I suggest using physical attacks and | | have your Red/Black Mage use Thundara to wipe them out quickly. They | | shouldn't give you too much trouble, but the difficulty of this battle | | will be harder with more Piscodemons to fight. You will also fight | | these guys if you try to open a treasure chest in the locked rooms | | which you can access later in the game. | '-------------------------------------------------------------------------' Once the Piscodemons are defeated, open the chest to find the Crown. Now you can return to Western Keep and present it to the king. Exit Marsh Cave the same way you came in, and pick up any items that you missed or intentionally passed by. Exit to the World Map. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Elfheim and heal up, then go back to Western Keep. --- WESTERN KEEP ------------------------------------------------------------- Monsters: None Items: Falchion, Power Staff, Steel Gloves You still can't open the locked door, but you will soon. Head into the main quarters again and talk to the king. You give him the crown, and he starts laughing maniacally. That doesn't sound like a king, does it? Nope; it's a trap! (had to do it) The king reveals himself as the king of the dark Elves, Astos himself. It was all a trick. You fell for his plan, and now since Astos has the Crown, he can rule over the elves with an iron fist! Not if we have anything to say about it. .-------------------------------------------------------------------------. | BOSS: Astos | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| | HP: 420 DEF: 18 EVA: 78 EXP: 2250 | | ATK: 30 AGI: 39 M DEF: 170 Drop: Mythril Sword | | ACC: 42 INT: 24 GIL: 2000 | | | | Weakness: None | | Resistance: None | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Well, another surprisingly easy boss. Astos has quite a bit of HP, but | | his attack is low. I was level 14 when I fought him, and I had little | | trouble. He has a spell called Death, which kills one of your party | | members instantly. That's not a good thing; so make sure you have some | | Phoenix Downs with you. Temper really helps in this battle, because he | | has such a high amount of Magic Defense, offensive spells aren't very | | useful in this battle. Have your Mage cast Temper on the character with | | the highest attack, and use physical attacks all the way. Have your | | White Mage cure a lot, and Astos will go down over time. You get a | | joyous amount of Gil and EXP for beating the king of the Dark Elves. | '-------------------------------------------------------------------------' You will recieve not only a nice sword, but a Crystal Eye from Astos. Equip the Mythril Sword to your Warrior and exit the keep once Astos is killed. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Return to your boat, which should still be at the post near Elfheim. Head back to the Pravoka port, then travel west all the way back to Matoya's Cave. --- MATOYA'S CAVE ------------------------------------------------------------ Remember that Crystal Eye that you got from Astos? Talk to Matoya to give it to her so she can properly see. In return for her eyesight, she will give you the Jolt Tonic, a very powerful potion. Exit the cave. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Go back to your boat and head back to Elfheim. --- ELFHEIM CASTLE ----------------------------------------------------------- Monsters: None Items: Gil, Bronze Gloves, Mythril Hammer Go past the pillars in the courtyard and make the second left once past the stairs. Go up to enter the prince's room. Give him the Jolt Tonic to revive him from a 5-year sleep. He will repay you by giving you the Mystic Key. Now you can unlock all those locked doors in pretty much every dungeon you've been to. Exit the room and go south through the doorway. Walk down the stairs to the grass. Go north around the castle walls, then go east until you reach a small room. Go south to find the locked door. Open it to find 1500 Gil and two accessories. Equip the Mythril Hammer to your White Mage and Bronze Gloves to whoever. Exit the castle. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Proceed to Western Keep to get some more goodies. --- WESTERN KEEP ------------------------------------------------------------- Monsters: None Items: Falchion, Power Staff, Steel Gloves Go north from the entrance between the row of pillars and west around the keep. Head south to find a locked door. Open it to get more weapons and armor. Equip a mage with the Power Staff and a Warrior or Thief with the Falchion. Give anyone the Steel Gloves. Exit the keep once you've looted the place. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Proceed south to Marsh Cave. --- MARSH CAVE --------------------------------------------------------------- Monsters: Anaconda, Black Widow, Bloodbones, Crawler, Gargoyle, Ghoul, Gray Ooze, Green Slime, Scorpion, Shadow, Skeleton, Tarantula, Warg Wolf, Werewolf, Zombie Items: Gil, Antidote, Broadsword, Copper Armlet, Cottage, Crown, Dagger, Phoenix Down, Silver Armlet Go south from the entrance and into the room to find the ladder leading to the basement. Once in the basement, go to the southern rooms. Open them and fight the Piscodemons guarding the chests. They should be a lot easier considering you've leveled up a couple times since your first encounter with them. You can find a Silver Armlet, an Antidote, and 1020 Gil in the three locked rooms. Equip the armor and exit the cave. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Head to the port and steer your boat to Cornelia. --- CORNELIA CASTLE ---------------------------------------------------------- Monsters: None Items: Cottage, Iron Armor, Mythril Knife, Nitro Powder, Saber, Tent Make the first right when you enter the castle to take a path all the way around the castle. Go north to the end of the castle and west. Go into the room where you can find two locked doors. They all contain useful items, weapons, and armor. The Nitro Powder is needed a little later in the game, and the accessories can be equipped if you don't have any better ones on you. Leave once you got the goods. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Proceed north up to Chaos Shrine. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Monsters: Crazy Horse, Gigas Worm, Goblin Guard, Lizard, Ogre, Scorpion, Tarantula, Warg Wolf, Werewolf, Zombie Items: Gold Needle, Rune Blade, Werebuster Go right this time to find two locked rooms. When you try to enter, you will be attacked by Gargoyles. They're pretty tough and can petrify you, so watch out for that. Once you defeat them, collect the Rune Blade inside. Go north to find another locked door. Take out the Gargoyles and collect the Gold Needle and Werebuster inside. You should really equip these weapons because they're a little different. The Werebuster deals more damage to werewolf type enemies, and the Rune Blade deals more damage to spellcasters. They can be useful if you switch out weapons for these ones when you get in a battle with those two types of enemies. You can now leave the shrine. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Phew! That was a lot of backtracking, but it was worth it. Go back to your boat and sail west past Cornelia and dock on the northern port past the town. Go southwest and explore the mountainside, train, and finally you will come to a small hole. --- MT. DUERGAR -------------------------------------------------------------- Monsters: None Items: Gil, Cottage, Ether, Great Helm, Mythril Mail, Potion, Tent, Wyrmkiller Mt. Duergar is home to a happy little gnome who is having a bit of trouble. The gnome, Nerrick, has been trying to blow open a canal to the western continent. Remember that Nitro Powder you got from Cornelia Castle? Give it to him, and with that explosive, he will be able to destroy the land and make the canal. Explore the mountain and open the two locked doors to gain access to some treaure vaults. The northern room holds Gil and the southern one holds Gil, items, and powerful armor and weapons. The Wyrmkiller deals extra damage to dragon-type enemies. Once you have given Nerrick the Nitro Powder and collected all of the items, leave Mt Duergar. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Now you have a lot more access to the world. Return to your ship and sail through the canal by going southwest from the port. Ignore the whirlpool for now; don't sail in it. Go past the island to find a port next to a town. Dock your ship and enter the town. --- MELMOND ------------------------------------------------------------------ Melmond is a pretty run down town with not many houses and shops. If you talk to the townsfolk, they will talk about a mysterious vampire running amock at night around the town. That doesn't sound good. .-------------------------. .-------------------------. | WEAPON SHOP | | ARMOR SHOP | |-------------------------| |-------------------------| | Crosier 160G | | Bronze Gloves 800G | | Falchion 360G | | Great Helm 360G | | Longsword 1200G | | Knight's Armor 36000G | | Saber 360G | | Silver Armlet 4000G | '-------------------------' | Steel Gloves 600G | '-------------------------' .------------------------------. .------------------------------. | LEVEL 5 BLACK MAGIC SHOP | | LEVEL 5 WHITE MAGIC SHOP | |------------------------------| |------------------------------| | Firaga 4000G | | Curaga 4000G | | Scourge 4000G | | Diaga 4000G | | Slowra 4000G | | Healara 4000G | | Teleport 4000G | | Life 4000G | '------------------------------' '------------------------------' Definitely pick up Life and either Curaga or Healara. They are incredibly useful because you don't want to have to waste Gil on Phoenix Downs or Potions anymore. Stay at the Inn; you'll probably need to. You can pick up the Longsword if you have enough Gil, but the Armor isn't that good. Exit the village and head off to the site of the first crystal. --- WORLD MAP ---------------------------------------------------------------- Go west out to two patches of mountains. From there, go south to a large peninsula. Navigate around the mountain chains and you will find a small cave in the mountainside. Enter to find yourself in the Cavern of Earth. --- CAVERN OF EARTH ---------------------------------------------------------- Monsters: Anaconda, Black Widow, Cobra, Cockatrice, Earth Elemental, Gargoyle, Ghast, Goblin Guard, Hill Gigas, Hyenadon, Lizard, Minotaur, Mummy, Ogre, Ogre Chief, Ogre Mage, Piscodemon, Sphinx, Tarantula, Troll, Warg Wolf, Werewolf, Wight, Wraith Items: Gil, Antidote, Coral Sword, Gold Needle, Leather Shield, Mythril Shield, Potion, Sleeping Bag, Staff, Star Ruby, Tent x2 I never understood why there are so many enemies to encounter in these dungeons. It's simply ridiculous. 1F -- This is going to be a long journey to the bottom of the cavern. Hill Gigas and Earth Elementals are the strongest monsters in this place. Cockatrices are also found here in large packs, and have a tendancy to petrify you. Hopefully you have Gold Needles. If not, then I recommend going back to town and getting some. Go north from the entrance around the corner to find a small room. Go inside and get 1975 Gil. Nice! Return to the entrance and try to stay away from the western side. There's this weird glitch(?) that every step you take is a random encounter. Go east from the entrance and go south when you get past that rock on the side. Go south and you will find a room with 795 Gil and an Antidote on the right side and 800 Gil and a Potion on the left side. Collect the stashes and go north back near the entrance. Keep going east once you reach the top, then go south and east to reach stairs. 2F -- Go south from the entrance through the stone opening and all the way down to the bottom. Go east past an upside-down U structure. Go up once you reach a wall, then east again. Go up one more time, then go east to find two rocks on both sides of the wall. That will be a landmark point from now on. Go east past those two rocks, then up once you reach a wall. If you go east again you will find two more rocks similar to the landmark point. Go up into the room to find a Coral Sword, 330 Gil, and a Tent. Give your Thief (if you have one) the Coral Sword, then return to the landmark point. From the first two rocks, go south all the way down to the bottom of the cavern. Go west into the room where you can find 5575 Gil and a Leather Shield. Psh, the shield is useless, but that's a lot of Gil! Return to the landmark point. Go east, but this time go south once you reach the wall. Go east, then north again to find another staircase. 3F -- Phew! On to the third floor. Go east to reach a door. Go inside the room and get the Sleeping Bag. Go west from the room, then north once on the left side of the Z-shaped rock. Go west a bit, then north all the way to the top of the floor. Go east from there and south once you see the first path. Once you can't go any further, head east to go through a door. There's a nice Gold Needle which will probably se useful in the chest. Go north back to where you were and this time go west. You'll find a door. Go north inside to find 3400 Gil. Go back outside and head west. Go south at the wall and west again. Go south and you will pass through three rock pathways. Don't bother going through the fourth; it leads to a dead end. Go east after the third one to find a door. Go inside to pick up 1020 Gil. Go back outside and head down. From there, go east one more time to end up outside of a room. Go through the door to come face to face with the Vampire! .-------------------------------------------------------------------------. | BOSS: Vampire | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------| | HP: 280 DEF: 26 EVA: 72 EXP: 1200 | | ATK: 76 AGI: 36 M DEF: 75 Drop: N/A | |
