Walkthrough - Fire Emblem 6&7 Character Comparison Guide================================================================================ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi(Sword of Seals) and Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken (US) Character Comparison Guide Version 1.00 by Rick Dykes (Rick52) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ================================================================================ If the text streches beyond the screen, forcing you to scroll right, use the Word Wrap feature of your text viewer. I'm sure it has that feature. ------------------------------------------------------------ TABLE OF CONTENTS ------------------------------------------------------------ I. Versions II. Introducion III. How does this guide work? IV. The Character Comparison V. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) VI. Contact Info VII. Acknowledgements VIII. The Legal Stuff ------------------------------------------------------------ I. VERSIONS ------------------------------------------------------------ 0.01 (2/10/04) - Got the basic structure of guide down. 0.9 (3/29/04) - Completed basic guide for submission. 0.91 (4/18/04) - Made some translation adjustments for promotion items, and added first reader scores. Added one question to FAQ. 0.92 (4/25/04) - Correct Karel/Harken recruitment info. Added more reader scores. Edited Contact Info. 0.94 (5/25/04) - Relatively took a while this time. Added scores. Added a notice just before the character scores. 0.95 (7/3/04) - Added more scores, a recruitment fix on Harken, changed Dayan's score due to a mistake on my part, and I've also added the section "What to expect on the next update". 1.00 (4/14/05) - I apologize a ton for taking this long to update. Even then, I only received 9 e-mails concerning my updating this guide, most of the e-mails were just game help or 'were you got sword seals rom, tell me plz'. See below for what I've done to try and make up for it. --------------------- Version 1.00 Updates --------------------- 1) Again, I've updated reader scores, and I've added the fan faves for certain classes. You guys really disagree with some of my ratings, particularly for Erk. That irks me. Hehehe. I'll stop now. 2) I've added a section for Merlinus, the merchant you either love or hate. Or are indifferent to. I think that covers everyone now. 3) NO, I DID NOT ADD SoS TRIAL MAP CHARACTERS. Reason still being, those characters are all available solely for the Trial Map. If this was a SoS Trial Map FAQ, then sure, I'd add them. But no, this is a guide for characters you use during the main game and even the Link Arena, which the Trial Map characters can not be used in. 4) Added FAQ questions/answers. 5) Thanks to informed e-mailers, I've updated a few character bios, etc. Except the one guy who decided to use really large font and ALL CAPS to tell me Lyn's Hair/Clothes are Blue and Sain's hair is dark brown. He may be right about Lyn's clothes and Sain's hair (though Lyn's hair is green), but I won't change it because he handled it in a very unprofessional manner. Lesson? When you e-mail me corrections, don't be a douche about it. Next time, I'll include the name. 6) Lastly, I've updated a couple of my reviews of characters, though I've made no scoring changes. WHAT TO EXPECT ON MY NEXT UPDATE -------------------------------- 1) More reader scores. That is, if people send them. 2) Now, don't expect this, but maybe, just maybe, I'll start reviewing characters for Sacred Stones (Seima no Kouseki). Problem is, because of the new classes in that game, I'd have to completely change the layout of the guide (because I can't compare 'Traineemages' or 'Great Knights' with the other two games. So that's a huge maybe. Better yet, I could just make a seperate FAQ for that game. Though with the huge stat growths that game has, I'd probably give everyone a 7+. 3) Trial Map characters? No. 4) Erk Recognition? No. 5) Changing Lyn/Sain info? No. 6) Getting another update in sometime within a 9 month time span? Yes? ------------------------------------------------------------ II. INTRODUCTIONS ------------------------------------------------------------ Hi. My name is Rick Dykes (known online as Rick52), and this is my first guide. The Fire Emblem series has been around for 15 years now, and 9 games have been released in the series' fine history. This guide covers the characters from two of those games: the Game Boy Advance games "Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi", and "Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken". The latter one is known in the US as just plain "Fire Emblem". Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken and Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi are extremely similar games. They feature the same classes, the same continent and places, the same weaponry. It's basically one big game split into two games covering each generation. I do this because I see and hear people talk about who's the better character in this class or that class; or person 1 thinks 'Character A' is a much better 'Class' than 'Character B' while person 2 thinks otherwise, which spans both games. I'd thought I'd add in my opinion on who's good and who's not, etc. I will refer to the games as follows: "Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals" for the one featuring Roy, and "Fire Emblem US" for the game that has been released stateside. ------------------------------------------------------------ III. HOW DOES THIS GUIDE WORK? ------------------------------------------------------------ The 96 Playable characters that span the two games (NOT including the Trial Map-only characters) are divided into subcategories by class. I use the following format: Name --------------- Game - Which game the character appears in. Class - That characters class. Appearance - What that character looks like (helps for Sword of Seals players) Weapon/Magic - The types of weapons/magic that character can use. Upgrade - the class the character promotes to. Upgrade - If promotion is possible, the item(s) needed for promotion. Quick Bio - Some light background information on that character. Rating - (XX/10). I rate the character from 1-10. Most characters get 6 or 7. The better characters get 8, 9, or 10. Anything lower go to mediocre or crappy characters. Acquire - Info on how to get that character. Fan Rating - What you, the reader, rate the character in an e-mail to me (see contact info). Unless it's really good, I won't post any actual opinions, just the score. 2 or more scores will be averaged into one. After each class is complete, I'll pick the best and worst character from each class, and which Fire Emblem has the better set of characters for that class. I will then show who the fan favorites and most hated are according to their scores. So, shall we begin? ------------------------------------------------------------ IV. THE CHARACTER COMPARISON ------------------------------------------------------------ Since this section is pretty darn large, I've put a tidy little feature in. Press CTRL+F to bring up the 'Find' feature, and type in the four letters next to the class you want to go to so you can go directly to that section (for example, typing M.Y.S.M without the periods takes you to the myrmidon section). A. Lords Umpromoted (L.R.D.U) B. Lords Promoted (L.R.D.P) C. Knights-Generals (K.N.G.N) D. Cavaliers-Paladins (C.V.P.L) E. Myrmidon-Swordmaster (M.Y.S.M) F. Mercenary-Hero (M.R.H.R) G. Fighter-Warrior (F.T.W.R) H. Brigand/Pirate-Berserker (B.P.B.R) I. Pegasus Knight-Falcoknight (P.K.F.K) J. Wyvern Rider-Wyvern Lord (W.R.W.L) K. Archer-Sniper (A.R.S.N) L. Nomad-Nomadic Trooper (N.M.N.T) M. Monk/Cleric-Bishop (M.C.B.S) N. Troubadour-Valkyrie (T.R.V.K) O. Mage-Sage (M.G.S.G) P. Shaman-Druid (S.H.D.R) Q. Thief-Assassin (T.H.A.S) R. Dancer/Bard (D.N.B.R) S. Other (O.T.H.R) T. Merlinus (M.L.N.S) U. Recap (R.C.A.P) NOTICE: The following scores (well, my scores, anyway), are based on a character's usefulness on NORMAL difficulty, not Hard Mode. If that were the case, Zealot would've gotten a -2... ---------------------------------------- A. The Lords - Unpromoted (LRDU) ---------------------------------------- -The Lords are the main characters in Fire Emblem. Usually, they take thrones or gates to complete Chapters. If they die, it's Game Over. So, they're pretty important. Between the two games, there are 4 Lords. -Since Eliwood, Hector, Lyn, and Roy can become much different characters when they promote, I'll put the lords in two sections. A1: Eliwood --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Lord Appearance - Red Hair, Blue Armor, does NOT look like SSBM Roy Weapon - Sword, Rapier Upgrade - Knight Lord Upgrade Using - Complete Chapter 26 (Eliwood Route), Heaven's Seal (Hector) Quick Bio - Lord of Pherae, son of Marquess Pherae Elbert. After Elbert and his travelling army disappears, Eliwood sets off to find clues about his father's whereabouts. Rating - (6/10). Decent enough, especially for a main character, but you'll need to be a bit fortunate to get his strength up (one game, my Eliwood had 7 Str. at Lv. 20. Sad...) Acquire - Becomes the main Lord at Chapter 11 Eliwood. Or, joins automatically at the beginning of Chapter 12 Hector. Fan Rating - (6.76/10, 17 votes). A2: Lyn --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Lord Appearance - Long Green Hair, Dark Green Sacaen clothing Weapon - Sword, Mani Katti, Wo Dao Upgrade - Blade Lord Upgrade Using - Heaven's Seal Quick Bio - Granddaughter of Marquess Caelin. Grew up in Sacae with her Sacaen father Hassar and her Caelin mother Madelyn, both of which were killed by bandits months ago. Can end up with either Eliwood or Hector as an ending. Rating - (7/10). The Lord version of the myrmidon, basically. Good skill and speed, but strength is low, and oddly enough, so is defense. Don't put her in the front line because of it. Acquire - Starting character in Prolouge Chapter. Rejoins in Chapter 15 Eliwood/16 Hector. Fan Rating - (8.17/10, 18 votes). A3: Hector --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Lord Appearance - Blue Hair, Black/Blue Armor Weapon - Axe, Wolf Beil Upgrade - Great Lord Upgrade Using - Heaven's Seal (Eliwood Route), Complete Chapter 28 (Hector) Quick Bio - Younger brother of Lord Uther, who is currently in charge of affairs in Ostia. Good childhood friend of Eliwood's. Rating - (9/10). His great defense and his Wolf Beil can get you out of a sticky situation (like in Chapter 16x). Sometimes his skill stat might suffer, though. Acquire - Joins at around turn 3 in Chapter 12 Eliwood. Or, becomes the main Lord starting at Chapter 11 Hector. Fan Rating - (9.35/10, 17 votes, 7 tens). A4: Roy --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - Lord Appearance - Red Hair, Blue Armor, IS the same Roy from SSBM Weapon - Sword, Rapier Upgrade - Master Lord Upgrade Using - Complete Chapter 21 (or Chapter 21: Gaiden if requirements are met) Quick Bio - Son of Marquess Pherae, at this time Eliwood. Upstanding young chap with a strong sense of justice. Cameo (read: gimmick) appearance in the Gamecube game Super Smash Brothers Melee. Rating - (4/10). Yuck. Don't get mad, especially if you haven't tried him. Compared to the FEUS Lords, Roy unpromoted is crap. Level him to 20 in an arena or something so you don't have to bother with him until Chapter 22. Acquire - Is a starting character in Chapter 1. I'm sure Roy fan won't miss him. Fan Rating - (6.17/10, 6 votes). Best/Worst... --------------- Best Lord - Hector by far. His defense and strength alone can get you out of many tough situations. He'll probably be the first Lord to 20 in your game. Worst Lord - Roy. Technically, he's not that bad, but compared to the other three, you'll wonder why he was the gimmick character in SSBM... at least before he promotes. Better Set of Lords - Fire Emblem US. Three good/great Lords against one mediocre Lord. Self-explanatory. Fan Best - Hector. We agree. Fan Worst - Roy. And again. ---------------------------------------- B. The Lords - Promoted (LRDP) ---------------------------------------- The promoted forms of each of the four Lords. * indicates new weapon upon upgrade. B1: Eliwood --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Knight Lord Weapon - Durandal, Rapier, Sword, *Spear Upgrade - N/A Rating - (7/10). Eliwood gets the job done, and adding spears is nice, but compared what happens to the other three in promotion, Eliwood's is a mere afterthought. Fan Rating - (6.92/10, 12 votes, 1 ten). B2: Lyn --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Blade Lord Weapon - Sol Katti, Mani Katti, Wo Dao, Sword, *Bow Upgrade - N/A Rating - (9/10). Wow. The addition of bows alone make her awesome. You'd be surprised how often she criticals with it, as well. The only thing preventing her from a perfect 10 is the fact that her defense is still low upon promotion, is thus still slightly frail. Fan Rating - (8.85/10, 13 votes, 3 tens). B3: Hector --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Great Lord Weapon - Armads, Wolf Beil, Axe, *Sword Upgrade - N/A Rating - (9/10). Tank. His strength and defense can become insane, and his speed is decent as well. Give him the 'Boots' item to give him more movement and he's set. Resistance and skill may be his only setbacks. Fan Rating - (9.91/10, 17 votes, 14 tens). I think he's the fan favorite. B4: Roy --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - Master Lord Weapon - Sword of Seals, Rapier, Sword Upgrade - N/A Rating - (9/10). See, Roy fan? I'm not against Roy. He becomes an excellent character with the Sword of Seals in hand. However, you really only use him for 4 chapters, and the SoS has only 20 uses. Also, Roy gains no additional weapons for you versatile types. Still, though, he becomes very tough to beat. Fan Rating - (8.4/10, 5 votes). Best/Worst... --------------- Best Promoted Lord - Hector still. Tough choice between him and Roy, but Promoted Roy's limited chapter usage (4 chapters, one of them short), is what hampers him slightly. Worst Promoted Lord - Eliwood. He doesn't give off that 'Hey, I'm elite' feeling like the other three, though he's still darn solid. Durandal, as huge as that thing is, doesn't actually help him much. Better Set of Promoted Lords - Fire Emblem US. Roy could probably take out his dad, but he's still outnumbered. Fan Best - Hector. Fan Worst - Eliwood. We all agree on Lords. ---------------------------------------- C. Knight-General (KNGN) ---------------------------------------- -The Knight/General is the 'Tank' class of Fire Emblem games. Though usually slow in both speed in movement, these units have high defense and strength and can take out armies at a time, given they can actually reach those armies before someone else wipes them out. The Knights in Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals can Triangle Attack, a combination attack that never misses and deals three times the damage (nine times if you critical). -Note: In the japanese games, 'Knight' is referred to as 'Armor Knight', since Knights in older Fire Emblem games refer to characters that were dismounted from their horses/pegasi/dragons. I'll call them Armor Knights here. A * indicates a weapon that character can only use AFTER promotion (if that character is already promoted, no asterisk is needed). C1. Wallace --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Knight Appearance - Bald, Gray Armor Weapon - Spear, *Axe Upgrade - General Upgrade Using - Knight Crest, Earth Seal Quick Bio - Retired Caelin soldier. Finds Lady Lyndis late in her quest and decides to join her cause. Gets lost training after that. Rating - (5/10). Owns enemies in Lyn's story. However, when (if) you get him back, enemies will know better. Of the two Armors in US FE, Wallace is the inferior one. Acquire - By the time you finish Chapter 22E/23H (or 22xE/23xH), if the sum of your Lord's levels are LESS than 50, you'll go the the fog-of-war map with Lloyd as the boss. Wallace is on the lower right of the map, talk to him with pretty much anybody from Caelin. Fan Rating - (5.625/10, 16 votes). Quote: "Essentially Lyn's answer to Marcus." [OursSA]. He's pretty much on the money with that. C2. Oswin --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Knight Appearance - Short Brown Hair, Orange Armor, kinda wrinkled Weapon - Spear, *Axe Upgrade - General Upgrade Using - Knight Crest, Earth Seal Quick Bio - One of Ostia's finest Knights. In service to Lord Uther, he is ordered to tag along with Hector to ensure his safety. Rating - (8/10). He won't disappoint, that's for sure. Most of his stats reach the 20's past promotion, except maybe luck and speed. Movement is low, however, so giving him 'Boots' might not be a bad idea. Acquire - Automatically joins in Chapter 12, either during (Eliwood), or at the beginning (Hector). Fan Rating - (8.82/10, 17 votes, 4 tens). C3. Bors --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - Armor Knight Appearance - Cheese green hair, Yellow Armor, really small eyes Weapon - Spear, *Axe Upgrade - General Upgrade Using - Knight Crest Quick Bio - Another sturdy Ostian knight. He accompanies Roy back to Pherae when word reaches Roy of trouble afoot. Rating - (7/10). Mixed bag, really. Sometimes he'll rock, other times he won't. It's as simple as that. Can execute the Triangle Attack along with his fellow Ostian Armor Knights, thus redeeming him. Acquire - Is a starting unit in Chapter 1. Can't miss him. Fan Rating - (7.5/10, 6 votes, 1 ten). C4. Wendy --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - Armor Knight Appearance - Everything about her just screams 'Pink'. Weapon - Spear, *Axe Upgrade - General Upgrade Using - Knight Crest Quick Bio - Bors' sister. Signs up with the Ostian army as an Armor Knight to help Ostia in it's time of need. Rating - (9/10). For a pink Armor Knight, she sure can rock. Alongside Bors and Barth, the three of them can complete the only Armor Knight Triangle Attack in FE History. Crazy stat gains, that is, if you're lucky. She starts at Level 1, though, so you might have a tough time getting started leveling her. Acquire - Automatically in Chapter 8, turn 5 or so. Her, Barth and Oujay appear at the upper left corner. Fan Rating - (8.8/10, 5 votes, 1 ten). C5. Barth --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - Armor Knight Appearance - Looks kinda like 'Leo' from Final Fantasy 6. Buzzcut, large. Also has teal armor. Weapon - Spear, *Axe Upgrade - General Upgrade Using - Knight Crest Quick Bio - Yet another Ostian knight. No actual relation to Bors or Wendy. Rating - (6/10). That's WITH the Triangle Attack potential. Starts at a relatively high level, and stat gains aren't that impressive. Acquire - Automatically in Chapter 8, turn 5 or so. Him, Wendy and Oujay appear at the upper left corner. Fan Rating - (5.7/10, 5 votes). C6. Douglas --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - General Appearance - Skyblue Armor, Brown hair, nice thick beard. Weapon - Spear, Axe Upgrade - N/A Quick Bio - The Great General of Etruria. Fights for his country to the end. Lalum is his adopted daughter. Rating - (6/10). Sturdy General. Doesn't Triangle Attack with the other armors, but he can hold his own. Doesn't do better than Bors or Wendy, though. Acquire - In Chapter 16, he'll be walking about as an enemy unit. People can talk to him, but it won't do any good. Just don't kill him and beat the Chapter. Not only will you gain access to Chapter 16 Gaiden (keeping him alive IS the requirement), he'll automatically join in 16x at the beginning of the chapter. Fan Rating - (5.33/10, 3 votes). Yeah, I've changed his name from Duncan to Douglas, as it fits the translation much better, according to Ice Dragon. Plus, I've heard it more often as Douglas than Duncan, so I'm making that change. Best/Worst... --------------- Best Knight - Wendy. Oswin's good, but he can't Triangle Attack like Wendy can. Plus, you gotta give Wendy some credit for what she can do given her option to become an Armor Knight. Worst Knight - Wallace. Strange. Four good/great Ostian Armors. One decent Etrurian General, and one bad Caelin armor. Lesson: if you want to be an Armor Knight, don't go to Caelin. Ask Lundgren. Better Set of Knights - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals. It's the combination of Wallace's mediocrity and the SoS Armor's ability to Triangle Attack. Fan Best - Oswin. Wendy had it, but lost it. Fan Worst - Douglas by a little bit. ---------------------------------------- D. Cavalier-Paladin (CVPL) ---------------------------------------- -Another Fire Emblem mainstay. The mounted cavalier is often fast (movement wise, obviously), but the majority of them only specialize in maxing out one or two stats. It's usually a good idea to have one or two around, but don't bring out the whole lot of them. In total, there are 12 Cavaliers/Paladins, though two of those are Marcus. -Note: In the Japanese game, 'Cavalier' is called 'Social Knight'. It's been like that since the original Fire Emblem for the NES. Why it's called that is beyond me. A * indicates a weapon that character can only use AFTER promotion (if that character is already promoted, no asterisk is needed). D1. Kent --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Cavalier Appearance - Red Armor, Bright Red Hair Weapon - Spear, Sword, *Axe Upgrade - Paladin Upgrade Using - Knight Crest, Earth Seal Quick Bio - Knight in service to Caelin. Straightarrow all the way, follow orders and is Mr. Serious about all matters. Dislikes the loose attitude that Sain presents. Rating - (8/10). Throughout Fire Emblem, there have traditionally been two starting Cavaliers: a Red one that specializes in Power, and a Green one that specializes in Speed. Oddly, though Kent is the Red Cavalier in this game, he instead specializes in Speed. You'll notice in Lyn's story that he'll be able to double attack much earlier than Sain can. As good as Cavaliers come. Acquire - Automatically joins at the beginning of Chapter 1. He teaches you about the Weapon Triangle, the smart guy that he is. Rejoins at Chapter 15 Eliwood/16 Hector. Fan Rating - (7.85/10, 17 votes, 1 ten). D2. Sain --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Cavalier Appearance - Green Armor, Dark Green Hair, looks happy enough Weapon - Spear, Sword, *Axe Upgrade - Paladin Upgrade Using - Knight Crest, Earth Seal Quick Bio - In service to House Caelin. Unlike Kent, Sain is a flirt, but he sucks at it, not gaining the positive attention from women like he desires. Rating - (8/10). Similarly to Kent, Sain, the Green one, oddly specializes in Strength (unlike past Green Cavaliers that like Speed). You'll notice how much more damage he'll be able to do to enemies than Kent can early on in Lyn's quest. Though he does have a chance to underachieve in stats, he will usually become as solid of a Cavalier as Kent. Acquire - Automatically joins at the beginning of Chapter 1. He gets taught the Weapon Triangle, the fool that he is. Rejoins at Chapter 15 Eliwood/16 Hector. Fan Rating - (8.19/10, 18 votes, 2 tens). D3. Lowen --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Cavalier Appearance - Bushy Blue Hair that completely covers his eyes, Yellow Armor Weapon - Spear, Sword, *Axe Upgrade - Paladin Upgrade Using - Knight Crest, Earth Seal Quick Bio - An up and coming Knight in service to Pherae. Nervous a whole lot, and lacks confidence. It's a wonder how he survives... Rating - (7/10). Unlike most other Cavaliers, Lowen's specialty stats are HP and Defense. That's right. Tank on a Horse. He can take a lot of damage. He doesn't have as high of stats in other categories like Kent or Sain, though. Acquire - Automatically joins at the beginning of Chapter 11 Eliwood/12 Hector. Fan Rating - (6.91/10, 17 votes). D4. Marcus --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Paladin Appearance - Purplish Hair/Beard, Orange/Bronze Armor. Looks angry a lot. Weapon - Spear, Sword, Axe Upgrade - N/A Quick Bio - Experienced Knight in service to Pherae. He served Elbert (if they ever make a Fire Emblem game back in Elbert's Lord days, I bet Marcus would own). Rating - (4/10). Sure, he has the potential to become okay, but the bigger problem is if you use him in early chapters. Since he's essentially Level 21 (or probably 11 given his stats), his experience gain is only 3-6 while the Level 1 characters (Eliwood, Lowen), are around 32 or so. He's an experience hog, plain and simple, and his low growth rates will make you curse his name later in the game if everyone else's levels are low. Acquire - Automatically joins at the beginning of Chapter 11 Eliwood/12 Hector. Fan Rating - (3.65/10, 17 votes, 1 zero). D5. Isadora --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Paladin Appearance - Darkblue Hair, White Armor, Wears Lipstick Weapon - Spear, Sword, Axe Upgrade - N/A Quick Bio - Knight in service to Pherae, more specifically Lady Eleanora. Continues to study to become a lady, and was apparantly enganged to Harken before his disappearance. Rating - (6/10). I always liked Isadora (must be the lipstick :/), and I always liked making her my 'Axe Paladin'. After looking at her stats more closely, I can see her shortcomings. She'll easily max out speed and skill (kinda like Kent), but will suffer in Strength, even with Axes. Still better than Marcus. Acquire - Automatically joins at the beginning of Chapter 21 Eliwood/22 Hector. Fan Rating - (5.37/10, 15 votes). D6. Alan --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - Social Knight (remember, that's the Cavalier, going by SoS class names) Appearance - Red Armor, Dark Red Hair Weapon - Spear, Sword, *Axe Upgrade - Paladin Upgrade Using - Knight Crest Quick Bio - Run of the mill Pheraen Cavalier... who is good. Rating - (8/10). Here is where the standard Fire Emblem Cavalier thing comes into play. Alan, the Red Cavalier, is good at Strength! That's more like it! Anyway, both him and Lance support each other rather easily and the two of them combined are hard to take down. Acquire - Is a starting unit in Chapter 1. Can't miss him. Fan Rating - (7.75/10, 6 votes). D7. Lance --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - Social Knight Appearance - Green Armor, Bright Green Hair Weapon - Spear, Sword, *Axe Upgrade - Paladin Upgrade Using - Knight Crest Quick Bio - Run of the mill Pheraen Cavalier... who is good. Talks like he knows his stuff. Rating - (8/10). Good ol' Green Cavaliers with their speed. Lance is no exception. Him and Alan together make a formidable pair. Acquire - Is a starting unit in Chapter 1. Can't miss him. Fan Rating - (7.92/10, 6 votes). D8. Marcus (old) --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - Paladin Appearance - Grayer Hair (more white than gray, actually), Purple Armor, full of wrinkles Weapon - Spear, Sword, Axe Upgrade - N/A Quick Bio - Serving under the third generation of Pheraen Lords (Elbert, Eliwood, Roy). Nothing else really needed, not that you care. Rating - (2/10). Thought his stat gains were bad before? They're worse here. Thought he was an exp. hog before? Not like he is here. Thought he was old before? He's much... yeah. Point is, if you gotta use him, use him in the most extreme of cases. Otherwise, bench him. Acquire - Is a starting unit in Chapter 1. Can't miss him, though you wish you could. Fan Rating - (1.83/10, 6 votes). D9. Noah --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - Social Knight Appearance - Blue Armor, Brown Hair Weapon - Spear, Sword, *Axe Upgrade - Paladin Upgrade Using - Knight Crest Quick Bio - He's a mercenary under Zealot's command from Ilia. He trains Fil in the Ostian arena. That's probably why he's as good as he is. Rating - (7/10). He's actually a pretty decent cavalier. When I compared a Level 18 Noah to a Alan and Lance of the same level, his stats were nearly the same. Couple that with Fil support, and you've got a good cavalier at your command. Acquire - Comes out of the Arena during Turn 3 in Chapter 7 as an NPC. Talk to him using Zealot, thus fulfilling Zealot's lone purpose. Looks like Roy can talk to him as well, again according to Ice Dragon. Uh oh for Zealot. Fan Rating - (7/10, 5 votes). FireLizard says that Noah and Treck's stats are more balanced than Alan/Lance's, thus the 9's for both of them. D10. Treck --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - Social Knight Appearance - Blue Armor, Light Brown Hair, dopey. Weapon - Spear, Sword, *Axe Upgrade - Paladin Upgrade Using - Knight Crest Quick Bio - He's a mercenary under Zealot's command from Ilia. Rating - (5/10). Merely average. Alan, Lance, and Noah can all do better than Treck. Plus, Treck doesn't get a good support character like the other three... unless you want him to support with... Zealot... Acquire - Comes out of one of the eastern houses during Turn 2 in Chapter 7 as an NPC. Talk to him with either Roy or Zealot, whichever comes first. Fan Rating - (6.2/10, 5 votes). See 'Noah'. D11. Zealot --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - Paladin... somehow... Appearance - White armor, gray hair, no beard Weapon - Spear, Sword, Axe Upgrade - N/A Quick Bio - Leader (somehow...) of a small band of mercenaries from Ilia. Comes to aid Roy take back Ostia from Bern. Rating - (0/10). He's that bad. Units near him (Treck, Yunno) become bad. He died in the Chapter I got him in on my first playthrough. Yep, he's even worse than Marcus. Old Marcus, I mean. Looks like the only purpose I gave him earlier, that being recruiting Noah, is something Roy can do instead. He's not even a good distraction for enemies to attack. With that, he receives the score of zero as opposed to one. Acquire - Comes out of one of the eastern houses during Turn 2 in Chapter 7 as an NPC. Talk to him with either Roy or Treck, whichever comes first. Fan Rating - (1.2/10, 5 votes, 3 zeroes). Come on, let's go for the fan rating of under 1! D12. Percival --------------- Game - Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals Class - Paladin Appearance - Blonde Hair, Dark Armor/Cape, looks bored Weapon - Spear, Sword, Axe Upgrade - N/A Quick Bio - Knight General of Etruria. Follows Prince Mildain of Etruria more than anyone else. Rating - (7/10). Unlike the other Paladins you get (except maybe Isadora back in FEUS), Percival actually comes with good stats and has a potential to get a majority of them over 20 before reaching Level 20. A pleasant surprise. Acquire - You have two chances. Appears in Chapter 13 as an enemy, but far away. You can either risk life and limb getting to him and having either Elphin or Lalum talk to him (whichever one you got earlier) BEFORE turn 8 (or else he leaves), or just wait until Chapter 15. In that Chapter, he arrives at Turn 1 or 2, as an enemy, but talking to him with Lalum or Elphin is much, much easier here than it is in Chapter 13. Not sure if his stats are affected, though. Fan Rating - (6.7/10, 5 votes). Best/Worst... --------------- Best Cavalier - It's tough to say. The Red/Green Cavaliers are all very good. Of the four of them, I take Alan, since he's my personal preference, but any of the four are just as good. Worst Cavalier - Not Marcus, that's for sure. It's Zealot by a mile or so. Doesn't even make a good exp. hog. By far, the worst character in both games. No debate about it. Better Set of Cavaliers - Fire Emblem US. Kent/Sain and Alan/Lance are evenly matched, as are Lowen and Noah. Percival is better than Isadora, but young Marcus is much better than old Marcus. Plus, SoS has Zealot. Enough said right there. Fan Best - Sain. Ladies man. Fan Worst - Zealot. No doubt. ---------------------------------------- E. Myrmidon/Swordmaster (MYSM) ---------------------------------------- -Typically, the myrmidon hails from Sacae. Though their blows lack strength, they are quick and deal critical damage. Swordmasters in USFE gain a 15% crit bonus, but those in FE:SoS gain a 30% bonus. They do lack in defense and HP, relying more on dodging attacks than taking them, so be careful when using them. Also, they gain no extra weapons when promoted, instead getting said critical bonus. There are 6 characters in this class, 2 of which are Karel, most of which are related to one another. -Note: In the Japanese Version of Fire Emblem (the Eliwood one), Myrmidon is called 'Swordfighter'. Yet, Sword of Seals refers to it as 'Myrmidon' like normal. E1. Guy --------------- Game - Fire Emblem US Class - Myrmidon Appearance - Dark Green Hair, Blue Headband and shirt Weapon - Sword, Wo Dao Upgrade - Swordmaster Upgrade Using - Heroes Crest, Earth Seal Quick Bio - A Sacaen in heart, is forced to mercenary duties to get money and food.
