This is a work in progress, and will be updated.
It is a FAQS file of the scenes and references to the romances and mysteries
involving the other characters in Mineral Town, apart from the 8 bachelors
that you can marry and your 'rivals'. Very few of these scenes, with the
exception of the Secret Garden event with Carter and the knitting of the sock
by Ellen will advance your character in the game in any significant way apart
from the 'points' that you receive from experiencing any event in MFoMT. The
point system is an aspect of MFoMT that is unique to this game. All events
experienced will give you a certain number of points. There are 'Heroine'
points, 'Villager' points and 'Event' points. For example, every 'rival heart
event' that you experience in MFoMT is worth 5 Event Points and a couple of
Villager Points. Apart from the points that you receive from experiencing
these events, they do provide more details with respect to the inhabitants of
Mineral Town. If you are interested in the fabled 'White Flower' that grows
on the Peak, or the secret romances of Saibara, Harris and Zack, you will find
information about these affairs in this FAQS.
I have included birthdays and one or two items that the individual likes to
receive as gifts. Specific dates and times when events are triggered are
given in my Events Calendar file and an extensive list of likes and dislikes
for each character is given in my Official Taste Tests file.
I may add all 'heart' and 'rival heart' events later to this file but that
will create an enormous FAQs file. It may be better to create a separate file
for those. I may update this file when I have the time, as there are a few
other details I would like to add.
N.B. As the scenes were taken from the journals of one of my characters in
FoMT, I have kept his name, which is Aloysius, in the text. It makes for
smoother reading than to remove it and put something like [insert name here]
in its place. All events given here will occur both in FoMT and in MFoMT, so
it will not matter whether you are a boy or a girl.
AJA:
Birthday: Unknown
Aja is the daughter of Manna and Duke, owners of the Aja Winery. She left
home and refuses to return.
Although Aja is not present in the flesh in FoMT, there are quite a few
references to her in conversations and at least three cutscenes that deal with
her specifically.
The first cutscene occurs in Rose Square, entering it from the south, from the
area of Yodel's Farm. You will come upon the three ladies of the town
gossiping as usual, but this time, their topic will be Aja. The scene
involves Manna, who is Duke's wife, Sasha, who is Jeff's wife and Anna,
Basil's wife.
Manna: There's something I want your advice on..
Sasha: What is it?
Manna: It's about Aja.
Anna: Your daughter? I've never seen her.
Manna: She fought with Duke, then ran away from home.
Anna: Really?
Sasha: Do you hear from her?
We hear from her now and then. I wish she'd return home so that we could all
sit down and work it out. I can't bear to let it go on like this.
Sasha: It must be tough... I have an idea. I'll try convincing Aja to come
back home. Sometimes these things work better if it's not the parent doing
the talking.
Anna: That's a good idea. I think we'd just drive her further away if we
tried to convince her ourselves. (Surely it ought to have been Manna saying
this???)
Manna: Thanks, Sasha and Anna. I'm glad I got this off my chest. Friends
really are important, aren't they?
Sasha: Don't mention it. That's what we're here for!
Anna: Yeah. We love to help.
Manna: Thanks again.
On Saturday mornings, when Manna visits Anna, she will tell you that:
'These days my daughter writes letters to me on her own once a week! She
never used to write at all, but Sasha convinced her. Thank goodness for
friends, is what I say!'
The other two cutscenes involve Harris and his unrequited love for Aja.
Harris will come to your farm at about 7.00 p.m. one evening, soliciting your
advice and about a fortnight later, return at the same time to let you know
the outcome of his efforts.
Harris: Sorry to bother you so late, but can I ask you something?
You have a choice of responses:
Sure.
Not now.
Harris: You see, I have a secret crush on Aja, Duke and Manna's daughter who's
living in the city.
Me: (!)
Harris: I want to write her a letter, but I'm kind of stuck... I thought that
you might be a good person to ask advice from. Do you have any idea what I
should write to Aja?
Again, you have a choice of responses:
Tell her how you feel.
Think for yourself.
I said, 'Tell her how you feel.'
Harris: You're right! I'm thinking too much about it, I guess. Simple is
best. Thanks to your advice, I've decided to take a chance and just tell Aja
how I feel. Thanks a lot!
He returns at the same time about a fortnight later to share the result:
Harris: 'Sorry to bother you so late.
Me:(?)
Harris: I don't look so well? Well, there's a reason. AFter talking to you,
I wrote to Aja and told her everything how I feel about her. Her response
came today. Aja says that she already has a boyfriend in the city! No luck
for me, I guess.
Me: ( ....)
Harris: No, don't blame yourself. You see, I'm actually very thankful to
you. If I hadn't written that letter, I never would have known Aja was in
love with some one else. But, now I know to give up on her. Thanks again,
Aloysius. Don't forget to lock your doors at night.
ANNA:
Birthday: 23 Fall (milk, egg, spa egg)
Anna is Basil's wife and Mary's mother. Of all the mothers, she is the only
one without a 'job' apart from being a housefrau. She does, however, hold a
Cooking Cl*** on Saturday mornings, which you will be able to attend if you
have completed your Kitchen.
The first cl*** begins with a scene involving Manna and Anna:
Manna: '... and then what do you put in?
Anna: You put in... ... then you use the ...
Manna: I never would have thought of that!...
Anna: Hi, Aloysius. Come on in.
Manna: Hi there, Aloysius.
Manna: What were we doing? Anna was just teaching me how to make desserts.
She's famous for her desserts, you know.
Anna: Oh, stop flattering me, Manna!...
Manna: It's true! You cook too, don't you, Aloysius?
In that case, you should learn from Anna, too!
Learn.
Sorry, I'm too busy.
Learn, of course, now that I have my Kitchen completely furnished.
Anna: Really? I'd be glad to teach you!
In that case, both of you listen to this simple and easy Cake recipe.
Ingredients are Eggs, Flour, and Butter.
Seasoning is Sugar, of course.
First, mix the Egg and Butter with a Whisk, then add Flour and put it all in
the Oven.
Not too hard, is it?
You can also add all kinds of fruit to make it even better. Or, you can add
Chocolate to make it a Chocolate Cake!
Manna: Can you teach me anything else?
Anna: How about this... Come back again at this same time and I'll teach you
a new dish. It'll be a miniature cooking school!
Manna: Really? That sounds great!
Anna: Sure! I'd love to!
Manna: You'll come too, won't you, Aloysius?
ANN
Birthday: 17 Summer (egg, spa egg, all fruits)
Ann is the daughter of Doug, the owner of the Inn. She helps him with the
business, cleaning rooms and waiting tables, so she can be found both upstairs
in the guest rooms and downstairs in the pub. Her mother died when she was
young. She is warm-hearted, humble and friendly and she loves food. More
than once, she confesses that she has eaten too much and indeed, one of her
heart scenes involves a visit to the Clinic after a food binge. Ann is your
rival for Cliff, one of the 8 marriageable bachelors in Mineral Town. Ann is
a bit of a tomboy who does not like to dress in frocks and her 'Marriage
Event' scene, which will occur only after her marriage to Cliff, deals with
this aspect of her personality.
Cliff and Ann were facing one another as I entered, standing between two of
the tables in the dining area:
Cliff: Why can't you act more like a girl?
Ann: (with horrible face): I am who I am!
Cliff: My sister was more girl-like than you are.
Ann (hurt): I'm not your sister! Don't you like me?...
Cliff: Of course I like you!
Ann: If you really liked me, you'd like me just how I am!
Cliff: (....)
Ann: (with horrible face again): And you wouldn't compare me with your
sister, either! You wouldn't want me to change!
Cliff (with his old, bowed head, depressed look): I'm sorry... You're right,
Ann. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I really do like you just the way
you are!
Ann: (happily, with hand behind her neck): ... I'm sorry too. I didn't mean
to get so mad. And ... I'll even try to act a little more girl-like for you.
Once in a while...
Cliff: That's alright...
They walked off together towards the back of the Inn, never seeing me and
without giving me any opportunity to speak to either of them.
Other than rival heart scenes, Ann is involved with the scene where Cliff
faints in the Square, which can be found under the heading of Cliff.
BARLEY:
Birthday: 17 Spring (toy flower, rice ball, spa egg)
Barley is the owner of Yodel Farm and the grandfather of May, a little girl
abandoned by her mother, Joanna, who continues to refuse to return to Mineral
Town. The following is are two scenes involving telephone conversations
between Barley and Joanna. In both scenes, he uses the telephone at the Inn
(possibly the only telephone in Mineral Town!) and the entire sorry business
is witnessed both by Doug, the owner of the Inn. In the second scene, he is
accompanied by May who speaks to her mother as well, and actually tries to
entice her to return by speaking of you as 'really nice ... and handsome'.
Sadly, both conversations are unsuccessful in their aim to persuade Joanna to
return home.
Barley enters the Inn and walks to the telephone. He then rings some one and
initiates a conversation.
Barley: It's me. How are you?
He then makes a series of responses to the person on the other end:
(.... ) (? ) (hurt)
The screen goes dark for a moment, showing the p***age of time, then the
conversation continues:
Barley: You're not ready to come back yet...?
... I see.
I'll call again. Take care.
Barley terminates the telephone call. Doug has been standing behind the bar
while this conversation occurred.
Doug: Was that Joanna?
Barley: ...Yes...
May waits everyday for her to come home, but she won't...!
Doug: I bet she has her reasons.
Barley: Could there be anything more important than her own daughter?! Poor
May...
Doug: I remember... She was away for a long time, and when she finally did
come back home she left May with you and then took off again!
Barley: Joanna's always been that way. She tries to solve all her problems
by herself.
Barley: (hurt): I can't forgive her this time, though! Leaving May and going
off to the city... all without telling me why! May tries to act brave, but
she misses her mother. It makes me so mad...!!
Doug (....): She's still at that age where she needs her mom, isn't she...?
Barley: Joanna keeps insisting she has more business to take care of... What
could it be!? I'll make May's favourite today. Bye now.
N.B. May's favourite is ice cream and after you have given Barley gifts
twice, he will say to you:
'Want to learn how to make ice cream? May makes me make it for her all the
time. All you need is Sugar, Milk, and Eggs, and of course a Whisk and a
Pot. May loves it when I slice up Pineapple and Apple with my knife and add
it in with Honey. Myself, I like it with Wild Grapes. You should give it a
try!'

On a Wednesday afternoon between 4.00 and 6.50 p.m., there will be a second
telephone conversation between Barley and Joanna, but this time May will be
with him:
Barley: It's me. How are you doing? May wanted to talk to you, so I brought
her along.
Barley (.....): Here she is.
May (with music): Mommy? It's me, May.
... Yeah.... Yeah ...
I do mind Grampa, Mom, don't worry. The new man over at the farm is really
nice ... and handsome, too! You should come home and see for yourself...
May (....): ... You're not coming home now? OK ... yeah... I know ... Here's
Grampa ...
Barley: I see ... if you say so.
...Well, take care. I'll call again next week. (ends conversation and May
goes up to the counter next to him)
Doug: Were you talking to Joanna?
May: Yes, I love talking to my mom!
Doug: Is that so? That's good, I guess.
May: It is! But ... she says she still isn't coming home ...
Doug: That's too bad.
Barley: Sorry for bothering you. We're going home, now.
May: Bye bye, Doug.
Doug: Bye, May.
BASIL:
Birthday: 11 Summer (wild grapes)
Basil is Anna's husband and Mary's father. He is a botanist and has written
many books about plants. In fact, the reason that Mary created the town
library was to give the townspeople an opportunity to read her father's
books. Like many academics, he is obsessed with plants and speaks of little
else. Basil is involved in both scenes with Ellen relating to the
fabled 'White Flower', known to fans of FoMT as 'Queen of the Night'. Those
scenes are found under the heading of Ellen.
CARTER:
Birthday: 20 Fall (eggs, fish, turnip)
Carter is the pastor of Mineral Town. He is not entirely enthusiastic about
the job, and hints at a desire to change professions more than once. There is
no apparent romantic interest for Carter but there is a scene at the Church
with Zack that involves his secret ambition. This scene occurs in the
evening:
Carter: Hey, Aloysius! Listen to this!
Me: ?
Carter: I was kneeling in the confession room, like I always do, and I thought
I heard a voice. It told me that I would meet with good fortune. I wonder if
it was a dream, or what...?
Carter enters the Church.
Zack: Are you awake, Carter?
Carter: What's wrong at this hour?
Zack: That thing you wanted is finally yours.
Carter: (!) What? You finally found one?
Zack: I had a hard time locating it, but I finally managed to lay my hands on
one.
Carter (with music): Thanks very much.
Zack: Come pick it up soon. Bye now.
Zack then left.
Carter: I guess the voice I heard was right about the good fortune! I'll
have to spend more time in the confessional!
After:
So you want to hear about that matter...? It's a secret! Heh heh...'
Carter is an important character in your life not only because he will hear
your confessions and perform your marriage to the girl of your choice, but
because he holds the key (literally) to a secret. There is a garden behind
the Church where you can find 2 truffles, 1 poisonous mushroom and 1 regular
mushroom every day in Autumn and 1 white gr*** every day in Winter. Access to
this garden is obtained only through a door at the back of the Church and the
door will only be unlocked if you make friends with Carter. You do this by
listening to his sermons and by giving him gifts.
There is a scene about this that you can trigger in the evening in Autumn if
you have made friends with Carter:
You enter the Church and find that it is empty.
Me: ?
Carter's not here. I wonder where he is...?
I went to the back door.
!
The door's open.
Might as well go in...
In the Secret Garden, looking at the truffle at the very back:
Carter: I love Fall, because then even I can have a little treat...
I just can't let any one find out about this!
Mmm... It looks delicious!
Carter: (!) Aloysius, what are you doing here?
The door was open, so you just wandered in... It's alright...
Me: ?
Carter: What was I doing...?
I was just... um... cleaning up around here.
Me: ...
Carter: Don't look at me like that! OK, I'll stop lying.
I was hunting for mushrooms, you see. This area has always been great for
Mushroom hunting. In the Fall, the mushrooms come out, and even some one like
me with no money can have a delicious meal. You won't tell anybody about
this, will you?
Will you please keep this my secret, Aloysius?
Yes.
No.
Carter: (with music): You have my gratitude. As a thanks, I 'll leave this
back door open for you around this time everyday. Come and go as you please.
Now back to the Mushrooms... Don't forget about this door!'
Oddly enough, mushrooms are not one of Carter's favourite foods, although he,
like many people in Mineral Town, does love the truffles. By the way, you
do not have to trigger this scene in order to gain access to the Secret
Garden. If you are friends with Carter, you will find that the door has
become unlocked, even if you do not experience the scene. There are items to
be found in the Secret Garden only in Autumn and Winter.
Carter presides over the local Music Festival that occurs on 3 Fall each
year. He will come to your farm at
6.00 a.m. on 2 Fall each year to ask you if you would like to participate in
the Festival:
'We're having the Music Festival tomorrow at 6. p.m. at the Church. Do you
want to come?
I'd love to.
Sorry, I'm busy.
Of course I told him: 'I'd love to.'
Carter: In that case, you can play the Ocarina. I'll give it to you
tomorrow. Don't be late tomorrow!
To participate in the Festival, you must go to the Church between 6.00 p.m.
and 11.50 p.m. The event takes place as follows:
I went to the Church rather late, after 10.00 p.m. and found Carter waiting
for me outside. He told me that I was late and that every one was waiting for
me in the Church. People from Mineral Town were sitting in the pews.
Jeff: Listening to music relaxes me so much.
Sasha: I like it that we all make music together.
Mary: Today I'm playing the organ. I've practiced since I was a child, but
I'm not good!
Karen: La... la... I think we'll do fine.
Elli: I'm so nervous! I hope I don't make a mistake!
Ann: I think Elli will cover me even if I make a mistake! It's having fun
that matters, anyway!
Stu; Karen is going to sing. She has such a beautiful voice!
May: When I get bigger, I want to sing in the Music Festival, too!
Carter: I'm looking forward to hearing you play Ocarina. Are you ready yet?
My choices were:
I'm ready.
Wait a mi***e.
I said that I was ready to play.
Carter: OK... Every one, we're on!
We played a beautiful piece together. My last thoughts were: That was fun!
I'll sleep well tonight.
CLIFF:
Birthday: 6 Summer (wild grapes, milk)
Cliff has 'rival heart scenes' with Ann, of course, but there are a couple of
scenes involving Cliff that are not 'heart' scenes. The first of these
determines Cliff's ultimate fate as to whether or not he will remain in
Mineral Farm. If you do not trigger this scene, you never will experience any
more of Cliff's 'rival heart' events and he will never be able to marry Ann.
It is one of the more peculiar events, in that Carter inexplicably switches to
German in speaking to you and you are required to answer him in German, after
which every one will speak English again as if nothing wierd has occurred.
The 'event' is really a couple of separate events, occurring over the space of
two days.
On the morning of 14 Fall, Duke will arrive at your farm with a proposal:
Duke: Hi, Bastien. Tomorrow we're harvesting Wine Grapes. Do you want to
help out?
My choices:
Sure!
I'm too busy.
Sure, of course.
Duke: Great, in that case, come by around 10AM. We'll pay you, of course.
He started to leave, then turned round to say:
Oh yeah. We need one more person, so invite some one if you think of it.
I went to the Church to give Carter an egg and after I did, he said, 'Ein
Teilzeitjob auf dem Weingut hort sich nach einer Menge Spaban.'
My choices, extraordinarily in German:
Von Job erzahlen.
Nicht erzahlen.
I said, 'Von job erzahlen,' wondering why we were speaking German suddenly
(some wierd winery protocol?), whereupon Carter reverted just as suddenly to
English, saying, 'I think Cliff needs that job more than I do. Why don't you
tell him?'
Cliff asked, 'What's up?'
My choices:
Tell about part time job.
Don't tell.
Of course I told him about the job. Friendship and helping other people is
what life here is all about.
Cliff: Hmm... A part time job at the Winery?... You know, my money IS running
out... I'll go ask about it tomorrow!
The next day, on 15 Fall, you will go to the Winery and Manna will ask:
'Can you help out until about 5 p.m.?
Your choice of response:
Of course.
Sorry, I can't.
Of course I was willing to help out.
Manna: Do a good job, now.
Duke: Do a good job, you two.
Cliff: No sloughing off, now!
(He has a nerve, I must say! This is a guy who had no job and sat about in
church for months doing nothing but moping...)
Duke: Thanks for helping out. I've deposited your pay.
Manna: Thanks for all your help. Here is fresh grape juice.
She gave us grape juice and cheese, which we ate.
Duke: Look forward to tasting the Wine made of the Grapes you picked!
Duke: Cliff, what do you think about working here at Aja Winery full time?
The harvest is over, but Wine making is a year round job!
Cliff: Really?... You're serious?
Manna: With Aja gone off to the city, it's awful hard for just Manna and me.
Cliff: Thanks, You won't regret it!
This is all thanks to you, Aloysius!'
The second scene takes place in Winter on a snowy day, if you enter Rose
Square from the south, from the direction of Yodel's Farm. Cliff staggers and
falls in the Square.
Cliff: I always remember the day I left my home when it snows. It was
snowing then, too.'
A photograph fell, and I took it. I took Cliff to the Inn.
Carter was there, as were Doug and Jeff. The latter were sitting together.
Thomas was at the same table at Carter.
Ann: Welcome. Quite a snowy day, isn't it? What? Cliff!?
Dad! Come quick! It's about Cliff!
Ann, Doug and I took Cliff to the Clinic, and Carter arrived there as well.
Doctor Thank goodness you happened by when you did, Bastien.
Carter: Thank goodness he's safe! What was he doing there?
Ann: Thank you so much!
Doctor: Just rest, and he should be fine. Every one should go home now.
I found myself outside the Clinic at 4.00, and Lillia pushed past me on her
way home. Curious still, I returned inside, to find Cliff in bed.
Cliff is sleeping well...

A family picture?
I showed it to Cliff and it awakened him briefly.
Cliff: Hey!! Where did you find this?! Oh... I see... You told Ann and the
others for me. This photo shows my mother any my sister...
You see... I ... I didn't like where I lived, so I left my mother and sister
to strike on my own. When I came back, my mother had died and my sister had
gone somewhere... Where, I just don't know... This town reminds me of that
other one, long ago... I'm sorry to bother you with my story. I'm sure you
don't want to hear it...
He fell back into bed.
Next thing I knew...
Cliff is sleeping well...
At Church, Carter will say, 'Cliff is doing so much better since getting the
job at the winery. It's all thanks to you.You were the one who saved Cliff.
Lately, I've been thinking that the power of humans to save other humans is
truly immense.'
Cliff will remain in bed at the Clinic for a couple of days after this event.
If you happen to p*** out and end up at the Clinic during this interval, you
will experience a hilarious scene, as Cliff will be turned out of his bed to
make way for you, and Elli literally will drag him out of the room by his
heels! The next morning, you can find him back in bed at the Clinic, however,
as if nothing untoward had occurred.
DOCTOR:
Birthday: 19 Fall (milk, red gr***, poisonous mushroom)
The Doctor is one of the eligible bachelors and he is involved, of course in
all 'rival heart events' with Elli, but there is an event that cannot be
cl***ified as a 'rival heart event'. This event occurs at the Mountain Lake
where you will find him alone, sitting by the water, looking rather depressed.
Doctor: Hi there. I look kind of down? I was just remembering my parents,
you see. My family have always been doctors. My father was a doctor and my
mother a nurse. They were so busy that they didn't have much time for me when
I was a child. I was lonely and I blamed them for not paying enough attention
to me. But, now that I'm a doctor myself I understand them much better. It's
a sacred duty, being responsible for some one's life. Now I wish I hadn't
rebelled against them so much! What a fool I was...'
After, if you speak to him:
Doctor: ...............................
DOUG:
Birthday: 11 Winter (fish, egg)
Doug is a widower, who runs the local Inn with his daughter, Ann. There is
one cutscene that involves Doug specifically and his love for his deceased
wife. It will occur on the Peak on 5 Fall, the anniversary of her death.
You will find Doug sitting alone on the Peak, at a spot overlooking the valley
and he will say:
'This is the anniversary of Ann's mother's death. Ann lets me take the day
off every year, bless her.'
Then, 'Today is the one day I allow myself to think about her...'
If you go to the Spring on 5 Fall in the morning, you will not find Ann
there. You will find her instead at the Inn, where she will say, 'It's hard
to take care of things when my dad isn't here.' Then, 'This is the day my
mother died. I don't remember her at all, but my dad gets so sad at times
like this...'
DUKE:
Birthday: 15 Winter (egg)
Duke is Manna's husband, co-owner of the Aja Winery and Aja's father. At the
start of your life in Mineral Town, he is infamous for his m***ive debts, his
heavy drinking, gambling and long-distance telephone calls. If you do not ask
Cliff to help you with the Winery job, Duke's character will remain the same.
If Cliff takes the Winery job, Duke will be reformed and will begin to attend
Church, and spend Saturdays with Cliff and Manna at the Inn
'like a real family'.
If you see Manna at the Supermarket, she will tell you: 'Can you believe it
Duke ran up another tabe at the Supermkart. 5000G. I'm so embarr***ed! He
didn't even tell me! Jeff shouldn't even let Duke buy things on credit any
more. After all, it's me who has to pay for it all. Doug also tells me that
Duke calls Aja from the Inn nearly every day. Just magine the phone bill!
What's a wife to do?'
There is a scene involving Karen, Doug and Manna that occurs at night at the
Inn that shows both Duke's heavy drinking and his tendency to get into debt.
(It is not one of Karen's 'heart scenes', by the way.):
Karen: Hi, Aloysius. You've come just in time.
Karen and Duke facing one another in the Inn at the Bar.
Duke has run up a huge tab at the Supermarket, so we've decided to have a
drinking contest to settle it.
Duke: If Karen wins, I have to pay it all off. If I win, then they call the
debt off. Sounds like fun, huh?
Karen: Will you judge the contest?
My choices:
You've got to be kidding.

Ellen is an old lady who no longer can walk because of an illness in the
past. She is the grandmother of Elli and Stu. Stu lives with her in her
house but Elli lives in the Mineral Clinic and only visits her grandmother on
her day off (Wednesdays) and on holidays and special occasions. She is an
important character in Mineral Town because she is the only person who can
provide you with a sock for Yule, the 'sock event' on 25 Winter.
If you become friends with Ellen and give her a ball of yarn on any day in
Winter before 11.00 a.m., you will experience a scene:
Ellen will say, 'Thanks very much! I'm going to use this yarn to knit you a
sock for a Starry Night present! Just wait one moment.'
The screen goes dark and...
Ellen knits a sock with lightning speed...
Ellen: It's ready!
Ha... I'm tired.
Me: (music)
Ellen: I'm glad you like it. I will have Stu deliver it to you later.
Me: I will hang this sock on my wall from now on...

There is a cutscene that involves Ellen, Stu and Elli and a letter from their
grandfather, Elli's deceased husband.

Ellen: Thanks for coming. Stick around for a while.
Elli: Is the farm keeping you busy?
Ellen: It's not easy running a farm. I admire some one who can do it alone!
Elli: I could take a lesson from you, yes I could.
Ellen: Elli's working hard, too. It's her day off, but she's studying a
medical textbook even so.
Stu: Quite a sister, she is.
Elli: It's nothing, really...
Elli: (!) Oh yeah! I forgot to return that book to the Doctor!
Where did I put it...?
Elli walks over to the bookcase.
Elli: It was on this shelf... Oh, here it is! Hmm?
Ellen: What's wrong?
Elli: When I took the book out, a letter came out with it!

just hide it here. Please, even if you do come across this, don't tell me you
found it. It'll be too embarr***ing.
Elli: I can't believe he wrote this the day I was born!...
Why didn't he give this to you then, Grandma?
Ellen: He was very shy and easily embarr***ed. I can't believe he even wrote
out his feelings like he did!
He's in heaven now, so I'll treasure this...'
Afterwards, when I spoke to each person there:
Ellen: It's just like him to hide it that way.

Elli:Grandpa was so shy.
Elli: I'm glad I found it. Grandma seems so happy.
Stu: I miss Grandpa.
Ellen and the blacksmith, Saibara have romantic feelings for one another, but
Saibara has not acted upon those feelings.
Barley will make an oblique reference to this romance if you speak to him when
he visits the Mayor on Monday mornings. He will say: 'I wonder how Saibara and
Ellen are faring. We all should see each other more.' Then, 'Make lots of
friends here, Aloysius. You won't regret it.'
There are two cutscenes involving Saibara and his love for Ellen. I believe
that the second one will occur only in your fourth year or later.
The first scene occurs on a rainy Friday:
Saibara: Sorry to come on such a rainy day.
Ellen: It's no bother at all! I'm just glad to have you come visit, Saibara!
Saibara (showing BIG red heart): Oh, dont' mention it... I was just ... err...

I remember when we used to take walks to the mountains, the beach, and lots of
places together...!
Too bad we can't now, all because of these darned legs of mine!
Saibara: (!) Don't say that! I'm sure your legs'll get better, and we can
take our walks again!
Ellen: Thanks, Sai...
Saibara: It's nothing.... Err... I guess I'll be going, now...
Saibara:(!) Oh, Aloysius! I didn't see you there. What are you doing here?
Stu: Umm... This is MY house, Saibara!

Stu: Saibara can be so strange sometimes!
Finally, Ellen is the source of information about the fabled 'White Flower'
that blooms only rarely on the Peak on a night in Summer. The information
about the rare 'Queen of the Night' flower is given in a scene with Basil. If
you go up to the Peak on a Summer's night after this scene occurs, you will
experience a scene wherein you actually find the 'White Flower'. The two
scenes relating to the 'White Flower' follow:

Ellen: Welcome, Basil.
Basil: Thanks for ***isting me, Ellen.

Today Ellen is going to tell me about a very rare plant.

Ellen: When I was young, before both of you were born...
I heart some one talk of a beautiful white flower that bloomed on a Summer
night.
That flower was called the White Flower, and there is no one left alive who
has seen it.
Basil: The White Flower, eh? I'd love to find it...
Basil: If you find it, Aloysius, will you bring it to Ellen for me?
I'll try searching for it as well.
I'm going to research it more at home.
(Basil leaves.)
After:
Ellen: I just want to look at it once before I die. I know I may never get
my wish, but...'
Here is the scene wherein you actually find the 'White Flower' on a clear
Summer night:
When I reached the Peak, I saw a glowing white orb. I said to myself:
'Is this the White Flower that Ellen was talking about? You should bring it
to her.
I then was at Ellen's house and both Basil and Ellen were there, with Stu
still awake, despite the lateness of the hour.
Basil: That's...
Stu: I'ts beautiful...
Ellen: You really found it...?
(I gave it to her then.)
Ellen: It's wonderful! This is the famous White Flower...
Basil: Where did you find this, Aloysius?
On the mountaintop?
So that's where it blooms!
Ellen: Thanks, Aloysius. I'll treasure it.
Screen goes to black, then:

ELLI:
Birthday: 16 Spring
Elli is Stu's sister and Ellen's granddaughter. She is an orphan who has been
obliged to act as a mother to Stu since the death of their parents. She is
hard-working, serious and conscientious, and she wants to be a nurse mainly so
as to be able to help Ellen, who became crippled through illness. Elli lives
and works at the Mineral Clinic. She is your rival for the Doctor. Apart
from the Doctor's 'rival heart scenes', she is involved in scenes with Stu
and Ellen that can be found under the heading of Ellen and Stu.
Even after she is married to the Doctor, Elli remains determined to cure her
grandmother. There is a scene at the Clinic between the Doctor and Elli that
makes this clear:
Elli: I don't understand this part here...
Doctor: This? It's just like this, see...?
Elli (with music): I see now! Thanks, Doctor!
Doctor: Just ask me anything you don't understand.
Elli: You're so kind.
(I walk into the room.)
Doctor: Hi, there.

What am I studying? I'm studying medicine to try to figure out how to heal my
grandmother's legs.'

GOTZ:
Birthday: 2 Fall (all flowers)
Gotz is the local woodcutter and is an essential character to befriend if you
wish to upgrade your farm. He is a widow who lost his entire family on the
Mountain. The cause of their deaths never is revealed, but more than one
warning is given as to the danger of climbing the mountain in bad weather. On
the other hand, although Gotz often states: 'Be careful when climbing the
mountain yourself. There are no bears or wolves, but you can't be too
cautious. Know what I mean?'
It is that 'Know what I mean?' that is so sinister. I often suspect that he
is referring to bandits. Patrolling the mountain on fine days makes sense,
then. On the other hand, if you go to the Peak on Saturday morning, you will
find Gotz there and he will say: 'Hi, Aloysius. You like it here, too? Ever
since I lost my family here... I keep telling Basil not to bring his family
here in bad weather! You be careful too, now!'
If it is raining or snowing when you meet Harris on the road, he will
say: 'It's raining today, but I don't change my patrol for the weather.'
Then, 'I hope you're not going mountain climbing on a day like today! It's
dangerous!'
Another reference to danger on the mountain is made by May at the Hot Spring,
when she says: 'Hi there!' Then, 'I heard there was a field of flowers above
here. Grampa says it's dangerous, though, so I don't go.'
Here is the scene between Gotz and Harris dealing with the loss of his family
on the Mountain:
Gotz: How goes the patrol, Harris?
Harris: Mineral Town is safe and peaceful, as always.
Gotz: Good to hear... Nothing wrong on the mountain, either.
Harris: It really should be me patrolling the mountain, not you. THanks for
helping out, Gotz.
Gotz: Don't worry about it. I know more about the mountain than you.
Besides, patrolling it was my idea.
Harris: ...............
It's been quite a while since your wife and daughter died on the mountain.
Gotz: I think if I can prevent others from meeting the same fate... Those
two will rest a little bit more peacefully...

The Gourmet Judge is one of the 8 eligible bachelors and he is a culinary
expert who presides over the Cooking Festival each year. Popuri somehow
manages to persuade him to visit Kai's Cafe on the evening when she drums up
business for Kai by inviting every one imaginable (including Kappa!) to dine
there. You will find this scene under the heading of Kai.
Doug will tell you that: 'You know that Gourmet who judges the cooking
Festival? He's a real big shot in the cooking world. He's eaten cuisine the
world over, you know!'
GREG:
Birthday: Unknown
Greg is a chap who left Mineral Town before your arrival but he is significant
only because he is the man from whom you inherit your first fishing rod. Zack
will tell you: 'You know the Fishing Rod I gave you? That belongs to Greg,
who used to live in my house. He loves fishing. He said he was going to
catch every kind of fish there was, and he up and left! I wonder how he's
doing on his quest...?'
The quest to catch every kind of fish is one, among others, that you must
undertake if you wish to marry the Harvest Goddess.
Actually, Greg's quest took him far and wide, but he finally settled in Forget-
me-not Valley, a town that you actually can see from the mountain Peak,
nestled between the mountains to the Northwest. He has a television show
there.
GREY:
Birthday: 6 Winter (egg)
Grey is one of the 8 eligible bachelors and is the grandson of the village
blacksmith, Saibara. He is not very enthusiastic about his apprenticeship and
has low self-esteem, partly because of his grandfather's very high
expectations. The local librarian, Mary, is your rival for his affection but
apart from the 'rival heart events' with her, he is involved in another event
with Kai at the Beach Cafe. The event can be found under the heading of Kai.
If Grey's romance with Mary is successful, he will become more confident. An
event that occurs only after Mary and Kai are married is found under the
listing of Mary.
HARRIS:
Birthday: 4 Summer (fish, flowers)
Harris by himself constitutes the entire police force of Mineral Town. He
shares a house with the Mayor, Thomas, but has romantic aspirations to marry.
The object of his yearning is Aja, and there are two scenes that involve his
courtship of her. These are given under the heading of Aja.
Harris is proud of the fact that Mineral Town is a safe and quiet place to
live. He feels that he can take a break at the Inn every day because nothing
much happens in Mineral Town and every one knows where to find him if
something requiring his ***istance should occur. He ends his patrol at night
outside the duplex that contains Ellen's house and the Mayor's house.
Apart from the two scenes that involve his courtship of Aja, there is one
other scene between Harris and Gotz that can be found under the heading of
Gotz.
JEFF:
Birthday: 29 Winter (chocolates, flowers)
Jeff is the co-owner of the Supermarket with his wife, Sasha. He is a bit of
an hypochondriac, who experiences stomach pain at the drop of a hat, and
during rainy weather as well. If you visit Sasha in her house behind the
Supermarket in foul weather she will tell you that Jeff always complains of
stomach pain when it is raining.Jeff loves to spend time both in the Church
and in the Mineral Clinic. If you speak to him on the road on Tuesday
morning, he will say: 'I'm going to Church now. It's my favourite place in
this whole town!' He loves the clinic and if you find him there will tell you
that he frequents the spot because he always feels better when he is there.
There is a scene at the Clinic that involves Jeff's blood type:
Jeff: What! This must be a mistake...!
Doctor: It's no mistake this time!
Jeff: I can't believe that for all these years...
Doctor: Things are the way they are. You might as well accept it...
Jeff: (clutching his stomach):...........
Doctor: What's wrong, Aloysius? You heard us from the waiting room?
Sorry... You see, today we found out something very important about Jeff.
Jeff: A long time ago I had the Doctor check my blood type, but now he tells
me it's wrong!
Doctor: I'm terribly sorry. It must have been some kind of clerical error.
Jeff: And I used to think that my blood type fit my personality so well...
Afterwards, talking to them...
Jeff: I have to tell Sasha about this when I get home! She always did say
that my personality was too kind for that blood type!
Doctor: This kind of error is very disturbing...
Elli: Even doctors make mistakes!

JOANNA:
Birthday: Unknown
Joanna is the daughter of Barley and the mother of May. Abandoning May with
her grandfather, she left Mineral Town and refuses to return. She sends a
gift to May on the occasion of her birthday each year, but other than that,
she has little contact with her family. There are two scenes at the Inn,
where you will observe Barley speaking on the telephone to Joanna, begging her
unsuccessfully to return home. In the second scene, May speaks to her mother
as well. Those scenes will be found under the heading of Barley.
KAI:
Birthday: 22 Fall
Kai is one of the 8 eligible bachelors and is the owner of the Beach Cafe. He
is extremely popular with women and has a bit of a reputation.
Of Kai, Manna says: 'Hi, Aloysius! Have you talked to Kai much? He first
came to town when he was a teenager. He asked Gotz - he's the woodcutter who
lives in the mountains - to build him a cottage on Mineral Beach. Then, Kai
painted his new house all white! What a strange thing to do! Carter was a
big topic of conversation when he first came to town too, but Kai seems to
annoy all the other men. If I said I liked Kai, my Duke would blow his top!
Men are so silly when they get too prideful!'
If you show Rick perfume, he will say, displeased: 'If you carry stuff like
that around... you're going to look like Kai!...' which further demonstrates
Kai's reputation as a ladies' man. In fact, Kai will give you advice about
women if you show him jewelry of any kind, telling you that: 'Gosh, thanks!
Girls like this kind of thing. And they like it when guys give it to them
even more...'
If you go to the crossroads on 30 Spring of your first year, you will
participate in a scene that introduces Kai:
May said, 'It's Kai!'
Popuri said, 'Welcome back, Kai. When Kai comes, we know summer has
officially started!'
Kai said, 'The Beach House will be open from the day after tomorrow, so come
on by.'
May said, 'Great!'
Popuri said, 'See you.'
They left and Kai said to me, 'I don't think you were here last summer.'
Then, 'The name's Kai. Know that tiny cottage on the beach? I run it during
the summer. Come by for a visit sometime. Bye now.'
Although Kai is involved in four 'rival heart scenes' with Popuri, he does
have a scene at the Beach Cafe that does not relate to her at all.
Grey: I'm starving!
Kai: Can you try this then?
Grey (with music): Hey, this is great!
Kai (with music): You really think so?
(I walk in with the dog on my head)
Kai: Oh, Aloysius. Welcome.
Grey: Hi there.
Me: ?
Grey: You say it's unusual for me to be at Kai's place?
I guess so, but he invited me.
Kai: Grey is the only person around here who knows what food in the city
tastes like. So, I value his opinions.
Grey: I have to say I'm impressed with our skill, Kai.'
Kai: Thanks. Hearing that from you gives me confidence.
Grey: I better get back to work before gramps starts complaining.
Kai: Thanks for coming.
Grey: Bye now. See you later, Aloysius.
Kai: Grey's a great guy, don't you think?

Kai: I talk with Grey a lot at the Inn, but this is the first time he has come
to my place.'
There is another scene involving Popuri, every one else in Mineral Town and
even some characters that do not live in Mineral Town. It occurs one evening,
in Kai's Cafe. Popuri brings every one to dine there in the attempt to
improve Kai's business:
Kai: 'Yo, Aloysius. Welcome.'
I walk up to him at the counter.
Kai: 'Not many people here, as usual...
Me: (with tear)
Kai: 'I don't care, but that's just the way it is. i wonder why...? I think
my cooking is good.
Popuri (entering): Kai...!!
Kai: (!)
Popuri walks to the counter.
Kai: What's wrong, Popuri?
Popuri: I brought lots of customers for you, Kai.
Kai (with music): ??... Really?
Popuri: Come in, everybody!
Carter, Barley and Harris enter. Carter takes a table at the left and Barley
and Harris take the table at the right.
Popuri: There are even more coming!
The Gourmet Judge and Thomas enter the Cafe arm in arm.
Kai: Ha ha ha!! I think you invited too many to fit!
Then he turns to me:
Kai: I can't cook for so many people alone, Aloysius. Will you help out?
I wait tables, I help Kai cook, I do washing up... more waiting on tables, we
cook something and it is set on fire accidentally, so we put the fire out, do
more cooking, washing up and waiting on tables.
Popuri and Rick and Zack on the left then, with no one on the right.

The Harvest Sprites are the last group of guests.
The Gourmet sits in the back and eats... and eats... and eats... (G o o d !!)
At the end, only Popuri and I were left.
Kai: Boy am I tired! I'm glad you invited all those people for me, but it
sure was hard work to cook for all of 'em!
Popuri: I just wanted to do you a favour, Kai. I'm sorry if I overdid it...
Kai: Maybe having so few customers is a good thing, after all! Thanks a lot
for your help today, Aloysius.
My last thoughts were: 'I'm beat, too! Time to go home and sleep.'
I went straight to bed after that, could not even pick up my dog I was so
exhausted.
There is a scene between Kai and Rick demonstrating Rick's deep hostility
towards Kai under the heading of Rick. There is one other scene involving Kai
and Popuri but this occurs only if the two are married. It is found under the
heading of Popuri.
KAPPA:
Birthday: Unknown
The Kappa is one of the 8 eligible bachelors but if you marry him, he will not
live with you, appearing only at your house on special occasions, such as your
birthday and anniversary. He is a green aquatic creature with sharp teeth and
a cavity at the top of his head who lives in the Lake on the mountain and
loves cucumbers. In Japanese mythology, the Kappa is a water spirit who is a
vampire fond of feeding on horses, cows and women. He is not a vampire in
this game! He can be a bit stand-offish, however. He can be 'caught'
temporarily on your hook when fishing from the Winter Mine in the centre of
the Lake, but if this occurs, he will free himself and return to the water.
If this occurs, and it occurs only very rarely, it will not be a happy event
for either of you! It has no permanent effects, however.
KAREN:
Birthday: 15 Fall (blue magic gr***)
Karen is the beautiful daughter of Jeff and Sasha who own the Supermarket.
She is your rival for Rick. She helps her parents at the market every day
except Tuesdays and Sundays when the market is shut. Karen is a very romantic
girl with a love of poetry and long walks by the shore. She can be found
often at night walking alone at the Beach, where she will tell you: 'I love
the ocean at night.... The sound of the waves always calms me.' She can be
found at the local Pub as well, as she loves to drink. There is a scene at
night at the Inn involving a drinking contest between Karen and Duke, the two
heaviest drinkers in Mineral Town. Karen wins the contest. The scene is to
be found under the heading of Duke.
LILLIA:
Birthday: 19 Spring (eggs, flowers)
Lillia is the owner of the Poultry Farm, and mother of Rick and Popuri. She
suffers from an unspecified chronic illness, and her husband went on an
expedition to find a special flower rumoured to be a cure, and never
returned. As the flower blooms only once every ten years, is found in the
desert and may not even exist, it is possible that his absence will
continue.
Anna, when found in the Square with the other women will tell you that: 'In
order to heal her, Lillia's husband went off to find a flower that onluy
blooms in the desert once every ten years. I think she's lonely him... Maybe
I shouldn't have told him about that flower...'
There is a scene triggered in your first year at Mineral Town at Zack's
house. Although Lillia is not present, the scene involves her birthday and
Popuri's plan to surprise her with a gift purchased by 'mail order'.
Zack: Hi, Aloysius.

Popuri: Hello, Zack.

Louis is another character who never makes an actual appearance in Mineral
Town. Gotz is the only source of information for Louis, telling you that:
'Long ago, a man named Louis lived at my house.' Then, 'He studies bugs, and
says that Mineral Town is full of rare insects. One day he want out to catch

MANNA:
Birthday: 11 Fall (eggs)
Manna is Duke's wife, co-owner of the Aja Winery and Aja's mother. She is an
inveterate gossip and often will give you more information than you wanted
when you speak to her. She is very lonely, moreso since her daughter, Aja,
left Mineral Town, and she will admit that to you readily. She is aware of
the fact that no one listens to her. Her husband, Duke, is a bit
irresponsible, running up m***ive debts with his gambling, drinking, shopping
and long-distance telephone calls. He will change radically if Cliff takes
the job at the Winery, but at the start of your life in Mineral Town, Duke
will be one of the less attractive characters. If you give Manna a gift on
her birthday, her response to you will be a little scene that involves both
Duke and Jeff:
Manna says:
This is for me? Thank you very much. You really are a great guy, you know
that. My husband could take a lesson or two. That Duke! He's forgotten
it's my birthday, so he's off drinking with his buddies again! He won't
remember until tomorrow. Then he'll run to the Supermakret, and, even it it's
Tuesday and they're closed,... he'll yell at Jeff to sell him a present! Then
he'll give it to me as though nothing at all had happened.! Know what I'll do
then? I'll go exchange it for something I really want. Duke won't notice
because he won't know what's inside it anyway...'
Then she says, 'I know that I haven't talked to you very much, but my daughter
went to live in another town. And my husband Duke spends every night drinking
at the Bar! How did things get this way...? I get so lonely, I end up
talking to lots of people but in the end, it just makes me miss my daughter
even more.... You came to this town by yourself, didn't you? How brave!'

MARY:
Birthday: 20 Winter
Mary is the local librarian, and is the daughter of Basil and Anna. She is
your rival for Grey. She created the Library primarily in order to give
townspeople the opportunity to read her father's books on plants. She is an
aspiring writer and has written a couple of books, although she claims that
they are not 'real' books. Apart from her 'rival heart scenes' with Grey,
there are a couple of other scenes that involve Mary. One is a scene in the
woods behind Gotz' house that occurs only after your marriage:
Mary: (!) I wonder if this is the right gr***?...
(!) Oh! Hi, Aloysius.
How do you like your married life? Takes some adjusting to, I bet!
Me: ?
Mary: What was I doing? I'm looking for a gr*** for my father that he needs
for his research.
My choice of response:
That's nice of you.
I see.
That's nice of you, I said.
Mary: I try to help out my dad. Besides, I actually enjoy it!
Sorry for interrupting you. I have to get back now.
Good luck on the farm!'
The other scene will occur on the Peak in the afternoon only if Mary and Grey
are married, and can occur as soon as one day after the wedding, depending on
the day of the week:
Grey: I hear that your latest book is selling like hotcakes, Mary.
Mary: Yeah, the publisher even wants me to write a sequel.
Grey: Hmm....
Mary: (....) Why don't you seem very happy about it, Grey? Aren't you glad
for me?
Grey: It's not like that... It's just that, well...
Mary: It's not like you to not say what you think, Grey.
Grey: (....) OK... I'm worried about your health!
Mary?
Grey: When you wrote the last book, you stayed up late every night working on
it. You were so tired all the time I couldn't help but worry!
I didn't want to stop you from doing what you wanted, though.
Mary: Thanks for caring about me so much, Grey.
Grey: Of course I do!
Mary: (shows big red heart): In that case, I promise not to work so hard
writing the next one.
Grey: I'll try to do what I can to help, too.
Mary: I'm glad I married you, Grey!
Grey: Now you're making me embarr***ed...!
After:
Mary: I'm touched he cares about me like that. i promise not to make him
worry any more. I'm so glad I married him!
Grey: My face is red...? It's nothing, nothing...
MAY:
Birthday: 26 Winter (egg)
May is the daughter of the absent Joanna and is Barley's granddaughter. She
lives at Yodel's Farm with Barley and often is to be found in the company of
Carter and Stu, in front of the Church. She has a very sweet, loving
disposition and is delighted by almost any gift, including the gift of an old
boot. She accompanies her grandfather every Monday afternoon to the Hot Spa,
but will not go into the water, as she thinks it is too hot. Popuri's third
heart event involves both Stu and May, with whom she loves to 'play house.'
May misses her mother very much, and she is such a delightful little girl that
one cannot help but wish that her Mum would return to Mineral Town.
If you give May a gift on her birthday, she will say: 'Wow! Thanks! A
present from my mommy came in the mail today, too! I was happy... But I
really wanted her to come visit...'
There is a scene at the Inn where both Barley and May speak to Joanna, to try
to persuade her to return. They are unsuccessful, however. The scene, as
well as another similar scene is found under the heading of Barley.
POPURI:
Birthday: 3 Summer (pink cat gr***, egg)
Popuri is the daughter of Lillia, who owns the Poultry Farm, and the sister of
Rick. She is your rival for Kai. She is a lovely if somewhat fey girl with
pink hair. She complains of being treated like a child while she continues to
act like a child. On the day of the Pumpkin Festival, for example, she always
will visit your farm demanding sweets, declaring that: 'I think it's unfair
that only kids get candy on the Pumpkin Festival. So I came for some, too!'
Popuri loves to 'play house'. She loves children and can enter wholeheartedly
into their games. She often 'plays house' with Carter, Stu and May.
Popuri is not content in Mineral Town. She resents the fact that she is not
given responsibilities. If you meet her in the morning at the Spring, she
will say: 'My Mom minds the store, and my brother looks after the Chickens.
My father trusts my brother so much! He wouldn't teach ME anything, though.'
If she marries Kai, she will leave Mineral Town and return only in the Summers
with her husband.
Popuri loves gifts that make her feel 'like a woman', whether cosmetics,
dresses or jewelry made by Saibara. There is a scene that will occur in the
evening at the Beach Cafe only if she and Kai are married that demonstrates
both her childlike naivete and her longing to be perceived as a real woman:
Popuri: Hi, Kai...
Kai (annoyed) (!): What? Don't you know I don't like being bothered when I
cook?
Popuri: Sorry... But there's something I want...
Kai (?): ... What is it?
Popuri: Well... There's a pretty necklace over at Saibara's, and I think it
will make me look so mature... Will you buy it for me...?
Kai: How much is it?
Popuri: It's only XXXX G!
Kai: (!) : That expensive?!
Popuri: Is it too much...?
Kai: There's no way I'd spend that much on a necklace!
Popuri (really angry and upset): But...
Kai: (shaking his fist): I said NO!!...
Popuri: I just wanted it to look nicer for you!! You don't have to be so
mean to me... Sniff, sniff...
Kai (with tear): Oh, don't cry on me! OK, OK, I'll buy it for you later.
Popuri (with big red heart): Thanks, Kai! I'll go home, now...
She leaves.
Kai: ... Women!
After:
Kai: It's so hard getting along with Popuri! Say the slightest thing wrong
and she breaks down!' Then, (hand on back of neck, happily): 'Still, Popuri
does understand me better than any one else.'
RICK:
Birthday: 27 Fall (egg)
Rick is one of the 8 eligible bachelors and is Lillia's son and Popuri's
brother. He lives with them at the Poultry Farm. Apart from his 'rival heart
events' with Karen, he is involved in two of the 'rival heart events' for his
sister, Popuri. He has a deep dislike for Kai.
If you speak to him at the Poultry Farm, downstairs, he will confide that: 'I
like every one in the village... except Kai. He comes to the village every
summer just to have fun, and causes lots of trouble. Someday...' Then, 'Mom
and Popuri don't dislike him the way I do. He has a way with women, I guess.'
There is a scene between Kai and Rick that usually is experienced in your
first Summer and that clearly demonstates Rick's hostility and distrust of Kai:
Rick hurt, Kai has a tear:
Kai: Do you have a problem with me?
Rick: Yeah! Don't mess around with my sister!
Kai: What! Just who do you think you are!?
Rick: I'm Popuri's brother, and I don't like her seeing you, Kai!
Kai: What makes you think you can run her life?
She can do as she wants!
Rick: I'm her brother, so sometimes I know what's best for her.
