Hey if you want to get more gold in those horse races, here's what you do. just before you go to the horse race, stand outside of the town square, and save your game. then go in and watch the first horse race, and see who wins. then shut off your game after and turn the game back on, and bet everything on the horse that had won, before you had shut your game off.and that horse should win. it worked from me. so good luck.
