They still work the same way as in Mega Man Battle Network 4, which means you still have to sacrifice a chip of the right type to perform a soul unison. There are restrictions, though, on this feature. RESTRICTIONS: - A soul unison only lasts for three turns. This time can be increased with Soul Time +1 programs installed in your Navi Customizer. - You cannot perform a soul unison with the same navi twice in one battle. - You cannot perform a soul unison with a regular chip. I know, it sucks, but it's fair. A soul unison allows you to use the abilities of a navi on your team, provided you sacrificed the correct chip. Here is a list of the souls you can get in Team Colonel with the type of chip you must sacrifice to perform that unison. Knight: Breaking Shadow: Invisible Tomahawk: Wood Number: Bonus Point (+/-) Toad: Aqua Colonel: Summon *SOUL ABILITIES COMING SOON* -------------------------------------- III. LESSON 2: CHAOS UNISONS [CHAOS] -------------------------------------- A new feature to Rock Man EXE 5 is chaos unison. Similar to soul unisons, a chaos unison has very similar restrictions to that of a normal soul unison, with a few differences. RESTRICTIONS: - A chaos unison only lasts for one turn. This time cannot be increased with Soul Time +1 programs. - You cannot perform a chaos unison with the same navi twice in one battle. However, you may still perform a regular soul unison with the same navi after a chaos unison, provided you have not already performed a regular unison with the navi. - A chaos unison CANNOT be performed before the fourth liberation mission. In order to perform a chaos unison, you must sacrifice a specific dark chip. Here is a list of the possible chaos unisons in Team Colonel and the dark chip required to perform a chaos unison. Knight: Dark Drill Shadow: Dark Invis Tomahawk: Dark Lance Number: Dark Plus Toad: Dark Wide Colonel: Dark Sound The charged shot of a chaos unison has the same effect as the dark chip used to perform the chaos unison. However, in order to successfully perform a charged buster shot, you must release the B button when the circle that indicates you are charging your buster is PURPLE. If you release it when it is blue, you will lose the chaos unison, and MegaMan DS will join your opponents and attack you for a short period of time (note that he is invincible, but will disappear after a minute or two or when you have deleted the virus[es] or navi you are battling). --------------------------------------------- IV. LESSON 3: FOLDER RESTRICTIONS [STOP] --------------------------------------------- Unfortunately, there are restrictions on folders in this game, meaning you can't put 30 of the same chip together and call it a folder. RESTRICTIONS: - You can only use four of the same chip in your folder. - You can only use 5 Mega Chips in your folder, and each one must be different from each other (example: you can't put two ShadeMan chips in your folder, but you can put a ShadeMan and ShadeMan SP chip in your folder). - You can only use one Giga Chip in your folder. - You can only use three Dark Chips in your folder, and each one must be different from each other. - You can only use one copy of a program advance (P.A.) in one battle. - You MUST have thirty chips in your folder at all times. Also, you may only select from FIVE chips in the custom window. This number can be modified with Custom + Navi Customizer programs (NCPs). Note that with Number Soul or Chaos Number Soul, you get to select from ten chips in the custom window. Be warned, though, that you can only choose five chips per turn to use. Also, other navis on your team that you control during liberation missions (or the main navi you control from the third liberation mission to the end of the fourth one) are NOT affected by programs you have in the Navi Customizer, but they can use a special navi chip of their own one time during a battle. ---------------------------------------------- V. LESSON 4: CHOOSING YOUR THEME [STRATEGY] ---------------------------------------------- As with folders from previous games, the one thing that is essential for a kick ass folder is a theme (aka strategy). There are many different strategies possible, but you need to keep in mind the folder restrictions mentioned in the previous section. Folders without a strategy don't do as well as folders with one. Some of the most common folder themes in this game are revolve around swords. Of course, there are other strategies out there that don't use swords. When selecting your folder's theme, keep in mind that most of the chips in this game cause flinching (aka navis flash after being hit), but there are some that don't, such as AirHockey. ----------------------------------------- VI. LESSON 5: SUPPORT CHIPS [ASSIST] ----------------------------------------- While a strategy is one of the most important aspects of a folder, you can't always win a netbattle with just the main part of your folder. Support chips help you optimize your theme and enhance the overall power of a folder. Here are a few things to keep in mind while choosing support chips. - Good support chips don't hurt the fluidity of the folder. Fluidity is how well chips in your folder work together. Some support chips help the fluidity of a folder, while some support chips hurt the fluidity. - Good support chips generally come in the same code as your folder. If you can't find good support chips in the same code as your folder, you have one other option before deciding to work with a different strategy in a different code, and that is looking for support chips in the * code. - Good support chips can provide a good source of backup damage. If your main strategy fails, you'll be relying on your MegaBuster unless you have support chips that can help you out by damaging the opponent. Don't just look at standard, mega, and giga chips for support. Dark chips can also provide some good support (ie. DarkInvis for Chaos Shadow Soul and DarkPlus for Chaos Number Soul). Support chips that are good for almost every folder are FstGauge * (only useful if you preset it), Areagrab *, and FullCust *. ----------------------------------------------- VII. LESSON 6: DEFENSIVE CHIPS [GUARD] ----------------------------------------------- We're almost done with your folder! After you get your strategy and support chips in your folder, there's one last aspect left. A folder without defenses isn't good. You never know when you'll be locked down and wind up getting hit with an extremely powerful attack. Keep at least one type of reliable defense in your folder. If you spend some time at the chip traders, you're bound to get at least one or two Invisibl * chips, which are very reliable, as you can only be hit with certain attacks that have the ability to hit opponents that can't be seen. Another good chip to consider is BubblWrap (People who have played Battle Network 2 should remember this great chip. However, Capcom made it possible to only get it in the Y code. -_-), as it regenerates after you're attacked, unless you get hit with an electric attack. ----------------------------------------- VIII. FOLDER CHECKLIST [CHECK] ----------------------------------------- 1. Do you have defense chips? If you don't, add them. Plain and simple. Don't keep more than 3 different types, though, unless your folder is meant to be a stall folder to monopolize with one deadly combo. 2. Do you have good support chips? Having a theme to your folder and having good defense chips doesn't mean your folder is good. Support chips play a huge role in building a good folder. If your folder is built around multi-hit program advances or combos, then chances are you'll want to add in some Atk+10 chips (to help maximize your damage potential. Support chips also tend to provide a good source or backup damage in the event that your main strategy fails (ie. VarSwrd chips in a Snake folder). 3. Is your folder in a single code? Two codes (NOTE: the * code is not included in code counting) is the maximum that a good folder should have. One code should be your main goal. If you answered yes to all three of these questions, then you're good to go. However, if you answered no to any of these questions, go back and take another look at your folder. ----------------------------------------- IX. HALL OF FAME FOLDERS [HFF] ----------------------------------------- This section is here to showcase some of the best folders for this game that I've seen. Note that some of my finest work is in this section too, with the name of the user who gave my folder the best rating. If you want your folder rated and maybe even put in this section, please e-mail your folder to me, or post it on the Mega Man Battle Network 5 forums on Neoseeker. I'll be sure to drop by. ;) Zombie Vulcan 4 AirHoc S 4 Invis * 3 Pulsar3 S 3 AreaGrab S 3 Attack+10 * 2 Sword S 2 WideSword S 2 LongSword S 2 Attack+10 * 1 SuperVulcan S 1 ShademanSP S 1 Sanctuary S 1 Attack+30 * 1 DarkInvs * 1 FstGauge * (Preset) 1 FullCust * 1 DarkPlus * Preferred Souls: Full Synchro Possible Souls: Knight,Shadow,Number Chaos Souls: Shadow,Number Navi Customizer: Custom2, BugStop, Shield, AttackMAX, SpeedMAX, ChargeMAX Built by: Proroman_the_Master1 Strategy: Superpowered SuperVulcan at 2400 Dmg while stalling with powerful P.A's; BigNoise at 800 Dmg and LifeSword at 800 Dmg thanks to FullSynchro. Number Soul also helps in getting the chips needed. The folder's potential damage is over 4,500. Rating: 8/10 My thoughts: This is a great folder with most of the chips readily available. The damage potential is insane, but it could be better with the Wild Swallow P.A. This only takes about 15-20 minutes to build when you're at the point where getting these chips becomes easy (the AirHoc S chips found in Oran Area 3 battle GMDs could take a while). For those of you looking for power and strategy, look no further. ShadeMan DS should be added for the BigNoise P.A., leaving ShadeMan SP available to be used freely, however. LifeSrd 1 FstGauge * [regular] 4 Mark Cannon1 S 1 ShadeMn SP S 1 DarkInvis * 1 SuperVulcan S 4 AirHoc S 2 Sword S 2 WideSwrd S 2 LongSwrd S 4 Invisibl * 4 Thunder * 2 Areagrab S 1 Attck+10 * 1 DarkPlus * Preferred Souls: Full Synchro, Chaos Number Possible Souls: Number, Shadow, Knight Chaos Souls: Shadow, Number Built by: Chaos Swordsman Strategy: What I really like about this folder is the ability for an AirHoc chip to do 500 damage, which is probably more annoying than a Life Sword in Full Synchro, since they can't move when you use Thunder first. For those of you who aren't aware of the 500 damage AirHoc, it goes like this. You Chaos Unison with Numberman. Areagrab and steal the first row from the opponents. Use Thunder when they're in the middle row. Finally, use an AirHoc with an Attack+10 (with the 50 extra damage added on from Chaos Number's charge shot). They'll get hit five times for 100 damage each. It's not only annoying for the opponent, but a major pain in the ass as well. Kyros' Rating: 8/10 Kyros' thoughts: This folder is one that's easy to build throughout the course of the storyline, and it's very powerful throughout the majority of the game. Once you start getting towards the end of the game, though, this starts to lose its appeal. Overall, it's not really the best folder in the game, but it is pretty damn good, and it's fun to use when you're going up against someone who's new to the game. BigSrd 1 FstGauge * [regular] 1 FullCust * 3 Pulsar3 S 1 ShadeMn DS S 1 ShadeMn SP S 3 AirHoc S 2 Sword S 2 WideSwrd S 2 LongSwrd S 1 Fan * 4 Invisibl * 1 DarkInvis * 3 Thunder * 2 Areagrab S 1 Attck+10 * 1 DarkPlus * 1 Snctuary S Preferred Souls: Full Synchro, Number Possible Souls: Knight, Shadow Chaos Souls: Number, Shadow Navi Customizer: Custom2, UnderSht, Rush Built by: Chaos Swordsman Strategy: This is more or less a combination of my original folder and my previous BigNoise folder. This can deal 1,700 damage in a matter of SECONDS. Areagrab, Chaos Number Soul, AirHoc with an Attack+10 (charged with an extra fifty thanks to Chaos Number Soul) for Full Synchro. As soon as the custom screen comes up, use BigNoise with FullCust afterwards for an instant refill. Follow up with LifeSrd for a hell of a lot of damage. ShadeMn DS and ShadeMn SP are both in this folder so you can use BigNoise and still be able to have a good amount of backup damage. The version you use for BigNoise should be the opposite of your karma level, so ShadeMan is still useable (ie. Use ShadeMn DS for BigNoise if you're light so you can use ShadeMn SP any time, and vice versa). Agram's Rating: 9.1/10 Agram's thoughts: This folder shares some similarities with both ZombieVulcan and Zombie S-Slasher. Unlike ZombieVulcan, though, this folder does not suffer from the absence of SuperVulcan, and it doesn't really need WildBird to help the damage potential, since it's already in the thousands. Silver Bullet 1 FstGauge * [regular] 1 FullCust * 3 Pulsar3 S 1 ShadeMan SP S 1 ShadeMan DS S 1 SuperVulcan S 3 Attck+10 * 1 Attck+30 * 1 DoublePoint * 3 Invisibl * 4 AirHockey S 3 Areagrab S 1 DarkSonic E 1 DarkInvis * 3 Blinder * 2 Thunder * Preferred Souls: Full Synchro, Number Possible Souls: Knight, Shadow Chaos Souls: Colonel, Shadow Built By: Chaos Swordsman Strategy: This folder shares some similarities with both BigSrd and ZombieVulcan, but there's one major difference. LifeSrd is NOT in this folder. The main damage here comes from the famous Silver Bullet combo. Lock the opponent down, and then use SuperVulcan powered up with DoublePoint, two Attck+10's, and Attck+30. Make sure you use AirHockey on the previous turn to get into Full Synchro. If they're still stunned, fire off DoublePoint to add an extra 60 to SuperVulcan, in addition to the 50 extra damage PER HIT that it gets from both Attck+10 chips and your Attck+30. This will boost the SuperVulcan's damage to 130 per hit, and with 12 shots, you're looking at 1,560 damage, but when in Full Synchro, the damage doubles to 3,120! BigNoise also boosts the damage potential even further with 400 extra damage, and 800 if it's in Full Synchro. The total maximum damage this folder can deal is 4,800! Kyros' Rating: 10/10 Kyros' Thoughts: This folder's relatively easy to build, and the damage potential is insane. Although not as lethal as PingPong Poison or PingPong ShotStar, this folder will still put a hurting on anybody it's used against, and the damage won't suffer from the lack of WildSwallow or LifeSrd; Silver Bullet more than makes up for it. PingPong Poison! 2 SloGauge * 4 BugBomb A 3 Geddon3 A 1 Anubis A 2 Thunder * 2 WindRacket * 3 Invisibl * 3 Lance * 2 CustomBolt1 A 3 PanlReturn * [one set as default] 3 Areagrab A 1 DarkLance W 1 DarkInvs * Preferred Soul: Shadow Possible Souls: Tomahawk Chaos Souls: Tomahawk, Shadow Built By: Chaos Swordsman Strategy: This one's pretty much the same as before. Use Geddon3 and Poison Pharoah together to cause massive damage to your opponent. There's a little bit of a twist this time around, too. All you need to do is use one Areagrab, and you're automatically set up for the support damage. If the opponent is in the back, use a Lance to bring them up to the front. If the opponent's in the front, use a WindRacket to push them back (in other words, one attack will set up another). Thunder is there to hold the opponent down for BugBomb, or for holding the opponent down for a WindRacket or Lance just for the hell of it. DarkLance is available for ChaosTomahawk and the abuse of a 400 damage Lance, while DarkInvs is present for ChaosShadow and the berserker charge shot. CustomBolts are in this thing for support damage and to reset the Custom Gauge, making the opponent wait even longer for more chips to try and delete you. Kyros' Rating: 10/10 Kyros' Thoughts: This folder is very lethal. Once SloGauge is used, the battle's practically over. PoisonPharoah and Geddon3 used together are VERY effective at draining the opponent's HP, and when you have PingPong as your support damage, you'll be taking their HP down even faster. Chaos Tomahawk is also in this folder, and that in itself will really hurt when the opponent is in the back row, as they'll be getting 400 damage they can't avoid when they're locked down to one column. PingPong ShotStar! 1 FstGauge * [regular] 1 Meteors R 2 GrassSeed * 3 Attck+10 * 1 Attck+30 * 1 DoublePoint * 4 AirHockey R 4 Areagrab * 3 Invis * 1 FullCust * 1 OmegaRocket R 3 Blinder * 2 WindRack * 2 Lance * 1 DarkInvs * Preferred Soul: Full Synchro Possible Souls: Tomahawk, Knight, Shadow, Number Chaos Souls: Shadow Built By: Chaos Swordsman Strategy: This is one I figured out when playing around with DoublePoint. True, the ideal turn will require a lot of setup, but it'll pay off in the end. Basically, use Grass Seed to turn your opponent's area into grass panels, which will set up Meteors. Areagrab to take away a column from the opponent, use AirHockey for Full Synchro, and then use another Areagrab. DoublePoint that, and use Full Custom. On the next turn, use Areagrab to take that area back, and (according to my data, DoublePoint's bonus should carry over) use Meteors with two Attck+10 chips and an Attck+30 attached. This will mean 90 damage per Meteor, and when the 60 from DoublePoint is added, you're looking at 150 damage. When in Full Synchro, the damage doubles to 300, meaning that each hit will do 300 damage to the opponent (600 if they're in TomahawkSoul or Chaos Tomahawk). After that, if you're looking for some fun, or if the opponent is still alive somehow, use a Blinder to get rid of flinching and fire OmegaRocket. Since they're already locked down to one column, OmegaRocket will go off the screen if it doesn't hit and hit them anyway, adding an extra 270 damage to the potential (540 if in FS) damage of this folder. And, of course, the ever so popular PingPong combo is in here as support, although it probably isn't necessary with OmegaRocket. Kyros' Rating: 10/10 Kyros' Thoughts: This folder hurts like hell! The damage potential of 14,440 from METEORS ALONE is enough to kill anything. The 14,440 damage is the total damage from each Meteor, and with all 24 doing an equal 600 damage, you get 14,400. When you're not in Tomahawk or ChaosTomahawk soul and you're battling against this folder, the damage decreases to 7,200, which is still more than enough to pwn anybody. ------------------------------------------- X.
