ok i'm in this place where you have to jump the ledges and there's a closed pipe and a rat that you have to feed. how do i get up?

i'm in this one area where verne has to get through these boards its in the place where you have to fight the like lil boris' my problem is that i cant figure out how to get through the boards can someone please help me
