HISTORY]* *********************************************************************** Version 1.1 Finish Update: May 20 at 9:26pm, Pacific Time. This guide is already up on Gamefaqs and Gamespot. I am sure you have all seen many mistakes up in this FAQ. Sorry, it was done rapidly and I was bored at the end of writing this FAQ. Now that I have relaxed, I corrected a lot of faults for a more pleasant lecture. There is still some errors but the biggest ones are corrected thank god!! I have holidays this week so I will work on the next update, it should be up next week. Thank you everyone who are reading this FAQ. Version 2.1 Finish Update: June 7 at 6:24pm, Pacific Time. Well I started my second part of the FAQ. I was busy, sorry. I had exams to prepare which is more important than this FAQ. Anyway, I manage to finish my second update. I finish up to defense stats. I do not know if I will have time to update it until the end of June. If I can I will do it, if I cannot than it will go to September until I get back to school because within two weeks I cannot do much. I am going on vacations for the summer holidays and I will not have a computer to work on every day. Anyway, I hope you like this guide. PS. If you could rate my guide I would be thankful I just have three ratings. Thank you! Version 2.2 Finish Update: June 17 at 6:41pm, Pacific Time. I've read little parts of my guide and remarked that some sentences did not make sense. I also found mistakes again. I decided to sacrifice the rest of the second part to correct and replace sentences. I don't know if I will have the time to add the version 2.3 for the rest of the second part. Anyway, I'm sure you'll like this new update. If I manage to have time I will but I have an Exam on Monday. So I won't have time to work on FAQ this weekend. In addition, I am going to finish school so I am going to have a couple of days drunk. Anyway, I am sure I will not have time to update it and this summer I am going on vacation so I'm pretty the next update won't be until September. Anyway, I am saying hello to everyone who reads this Guide. Version 2.3 Finish Update: June 21 at 1:18pm, Pacific Time. You should all thank Theemikester for this quick update. He gave me the kick in the butt to continue this guide before September. All my projects have been pushed one week farther. This is maybe the second biggest reason why I've updated this so soon. Anyway, I've put in every attack in the game. Also finished the second part of the FAQ. I'll try and work on the third and final part before I go on vacation. Anyway, Hello everybody and have a nice summer. I've also changed the codes of every part of the FAQ. *TAKE IN NOTE* From now on, you have to enter everything in the brackets by pushing ctrl + f to go in the right place. That means, the brackets and the letters. I've also made a battle chart, it will ease you greatly in your quest. There is a lot of information in this FAQ. So, maybe you can find wrong or missing information. If you find some, please contact me immediately at this email: "mariorpg456@gmail.com" Version 3.1 Finish Update: September 4 at 16:47pm, Pacific Time. Well I've Finished pretty much the Faq. The Third part is completed and also the Top Twenty. You'll maybe notice that things were changed. First, the moves were brought at the end of the FAQ due to some complaints. Also that my Faq is finish. It has taken about 50 - 60 hours to write it all and this is excluding the time that I've been playing pokemons on my GB. Anyway I will always find something to fix or to include in my FAQ. So farewell everybody and have fun! *********************************************************************** *Introduction - [INTRODUCTION]* *********************************************************************** First, I created this guide to help people. It will help everyone who has trouble with type advantage and disadvantage. I will explain everything in this guide from A to Z by giving you the advantages and disadvantage of a type. I will also give you the best of type for every category of pokemon. So here it is the pokemon type guide, I hope this will help people. If you have any questions regarding pokemon silver, gold or crystal, please contact me via email, "mariorpg456@gmail.com". If I do not know the answer to your question then I make a promise to find it for you by searching the net. If I really can't find it then it, it means that it does not exist. *********************************************************************** *How This Will Work - [FONCTION]* *********************************************************************** The key to a quick victory in any pokemon battle, whether against a computer opponent or one of your friends is to use the right pokemon type against your opponent. Refer to this guide as often as possible. Knowing the types interaction is the key to becoming a master pokemon trainer. This is how it will work, I'll put a list of every type and a brief description about them. I'll leave a little index here for a better view and to make the guide as clear as possible. Brief Description: Normal is the most common type in the game. Although it is common, it does not mean there are lots of great pokemon that belongs to the type. Surprisingly this type is home to very few great pokemons. If you are going to raise one, I strongly suggest to buy TMs because there is no really big normal attack except Horn Drill, Hyper Beam and maybe Mean Look. Mean Look is great for capturing pokemon. Hyper Beam has a power of 150 but you lose a turn. Horn Drill if hits, causes an instant KO. Still then, it has a 30% success, which is very low. In addition, not every normal pokemons have these powerful attacks. Not really the best type but you could at least make room for a good Tauros or Porygon 2. Do not forget to teach them some good TMs or else they are not even worth the time you will put into them. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Normal Normal....Nothing Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Nothing Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Nothing Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Weak Ghost.....Can't Hit Dragon....Nothing Dark......Nothing Steel.....Weak Best of Type: 1) Porygon 2 - Has good stats. He can also learn the best special attack in the game, Zap Cannon. 2) Snorlax - Snorlax has decent stats and learns rest and snore which make a nice combo. At higher levels, he will learn Hyper beam. If you teach him good TMs he can be a very powerful pokemon. 3) Tauros - Tauros stats are not bad, but not the best ones. He will learn Rest at level 34 and can also be taught Snore with TMs. Teach him varied type TMs and he should be a very powerful element in your party. 4) Ursaring - Just a big and strong pokemon. I don't really like the idea of training this pokemon, because he will be leftover in your party in a near future if you train him up. If you want it so bad then go for it. Well this is pretty well the normal type. A lot of pokemon, with for most of them very bad stats. Like in every type, some are better than other and you will have to stick with them. If you can't trade with a friend your Porygon (with upgrade) then stick with the older generation, Snorlax or Tauros. If you are going to raise other normal pokemon then I suggest to teach them TMs and boost their stats with calcium, zinc, protein, etc. Everything that can bring their stat up, in big. 4. Pokemon of that Type: Pidgey Pidgeotto Pidgeot Spearow Fearow Hoothoot Noctowl Rattata Raticate Sentret Furret Cleffa Clefairy Clefable Igglybuff Jigglypuff Wigglytuff Togepi Togetic Dunsparce Ditto Aipom Snubull Granbull Stantler Meowth Persian Girafrig Tauros Miltank Smeargle Farfetch'd Lickitung Eevee Tediursa Ursaring Doduo Dodrio Kangaskhan Porygon Porygon2 Chansey Blissey Snorlax So here are the normal type pokemon, as you can see there is a hole bunch of them. So, have fun catching and trading all these pokemons. *********************************************************************** *Fire - [FIRE]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: Now it's the turn of my favorite type, the fire pokemons. This type has some fine pokemons but at the opposite of the normal type, they aren't as common. I strongly suggest to leave Cyndaquil in its pokeball because he isn't the best choice when it comes to the starters. I suggest you Chikorita even if you'll get problems starting with it. Your first gym is flyers but if you've trained it well then you shouldn't get to much problems. Let us get back to fire pokemons. With Fire blast and Sacred Fire, these pokemons are necessary on your party. Also fire pokemon that have Sunny Day and a strong Fire attack can easily beat the crap out of a water pokemon in two or three rounds. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Fire Normal....Nothing Fire......Weak Water.....Weak Electric..Nothing Grass.....Strong Ice.......Strong Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Nothing Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Strong Rock......Weak Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Weak Dark......Nothing Steel.....Strong 3. Best of Type: 1) Entei - A very powerful pokemon that gain good stats as well as good attacks. Only at high levels though. He'll learn Fire Blast at level 71 (which is pretty high). You can always teach him Fire Blast with TMs if you can't wait until you get a good fire attack. 2) Arcanine - The best Pokemon of Red/Blue/Yellow. The only little thing that cost him the first place is that he doesn't learn Fire Blast, Although you can teach him Fire Blast with TMs, Entei has better stats then Arcanine. Entei is much harder to catch than a Growlithe though which isn't in the favor of Entei. Arcanines stats compared to Enteis are almost identical but legendary pokemons are in pretty much every case better than common pokemons. 3) Ho-oh - Maybe People will say that Ho-oh is the best fire pokemon but for me, his flying type cost him the first place. He has extremely high stats, I know but if he encounters a Raikou or a Zapdos, he'll be knock out quickly. This is an "if" but this if makes all the difference. In addition, he comes with Sacred Ash that heals HP and Status condition of every pokemon in your party. 4) Moltres - Like Ho-oh, Moltres has a second type flying that cost him the second place. He has very good stats, but like Arcanine he doesn't learn Fire Blast so you'll have to teach him the move with TMs. This part is based on the type and not on the stats. If this were based on stats, Ho-oh and Moltres would come first and second respectively. I think you should train a good Ho-oh or Moltres if you don't have a very good flying pokemon and that you haven't train an Arcanine or Entei because you need these fire in your party, at least one. 4. Pokemon Of This Type: Cyndaquil Quilava Typhlosion Vulpix Ninetales Growlithe Arcanine Magby Magmar Flareon Ponyta Rapidash Houndour Houndoom Slugma Magcargo Charmander Charmeleon Charizard Moltres Entei Ho-oh *********************************************************************** *Water - [WATER]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: There are tons of water pokemons but very few can put a good match on the good old Blastoise. These pokemons are quite common but you'll have to fish most of them if you want to get some of these powerful pokemon. Some roam in the nature but are quite rare but some like Suicune can be caught in tall grass. Water is a very powerful type but they are weak against those nasty electric pokemons. Powerful techniques are part of this category. If we think of Hydro Pump, Octazooka, which has a 50% chance of reducing accuracy. Although there is a lot of great pokemon related to this type, some pokemon aren't very good. It will be up to you to make the right choice. Also If I can recommend a good starter it wouldn't be Totodile because water pokemons are much more common then Fire or the a pure Grass type pokemon like Chikorita. The best choice would be Chikorita for the starters. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Water Normal....Nothing Fire......Strong Water.....Weak Electric..Nothing Grass.....Weak Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Strong Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Strong Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Weak Dark......Nothing Steel.....Nothing 3. Best of Type: 1) Suicune - Suicune is the best of the water type but only at high levels. He'll only learn Hydro Pump at level 71 which is pretty high for a good attack. 2) Blastoise - Blastoise is the second best water pokemon, he has some great attacks that he will learn at lower levels than Suicune. He will learn at level 55 Skull Bash and 68 Hydro Pump. The reason why Blastoise is second is because most of Suicunes stats are a tiny bit better than Blastoise, which will result in his defeat in almost every battles against Suicune. 3) Feraligatr - Feraligatr in my opinion is better than Blastoise. Feraligtr stats are better in Attack and Defense than it is in Special Attack and Special Defense. For a water pokemon it isn't the best thing. It is a Water pokemon and his stats should be upside down and it would be in my opinion the best water pokemon of the game. He should have better special attack and defense because water type moves are categorized in special attacks. Pokemon of That Type: Totodile Croconaw Feraligatr Wooper Quagsire Poliwag Poliwhirl Poliwrath Politoed Magikarp Gyarados Goldeen Seaking Slowpoke Slowbro Slowking Marill Azumarill Psyduck Golduck Quilfish Tentacool Tentacruel Krabby Kingler Staryu Starmie Shellder Cloyster Corsola Remoraid Octillery Chinchou Lanturn Seel Dewgong Vaporeon horsea Seadra Kingdra Mantine Lapras Omanye Omastar Kabuto Kabutops Squirtle Wartortle Blastoise Suicune *********************************************************************** *Electric - [ELECTRIC]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: Well as you already know this is the electric family. Home to great pokemon and as you can figure out, it is a rare family compared to normal or water. They have great speed in general. If we think of Electrode who maxes out a 300 pts at level 100, wow! I think you already know that speed is an important key win a fight. If your pokemon is quick and inflicts a good move it could knock out almost everybody in a single shot (maybe two if your opponent is very tough). If you want speedy pokemons than go with this type. They also have the best attack in the game which is Zap Cannon (if hit, it paralyzes your opponent). 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Electric Normal....Nothing Fire......Nothing Water.....Strong Electric..Weak Grass.....Weak Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Can't Hit Flying....Strong Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Nothing Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Weak Dark......Nothing Steel.....Nothing Best of Type: 1) Raikou - The best pokemon of the electric class. It has incredibly good stats and high special attack and defense. His skills are limited but learns Spark and Thunder, which are great attacks. As the legendary dogs, these pokemons are great but only at high levels. They learn their best attacks at level 71. 2) Jolteon - If we think of Jolteon in Red/Blue/Yellow, this would definitely be the best pokemon. They have lowered his stats in Gold/Silver/Crystal, a mysterious reason that I haven't yet understood. He is still a good pokemon and is also very fast. He is even faster than Raikou. I think that Jolteon is still the best electric pokemon because he can take out a psychic pokemon with its bug attack "pin missile". One little thing though, it would lose against a well trained Raikou that is why it can only be in second. 3) Zapdos - Another legendary pokemon. Zapdos is great and is better than the two above. again, its second type flying placed it in third place. Also he learns Thunder at level 73 which is even higher than Raikou. Pokemon of That Type: Pichu Pikachu Raichu Mareep Flaffy Ampharos Magnemite Magneton Voltorb Electrode Electabuzz Chinchou Lanturn Jolteon Zapdos Raikou *********************************************************************** *Grass - [GRASS]* *********************************************************************** Brief Description: Grass type is in my opinion the second best type after "psychic". In the older versions it wasn't as good as it is today. Very few of them were pure Grass and even then they weren't very good. The good grass pokemon were usually mixed with poison (Venausaur). This was bad, very bad, because they are weak against the best type "Psychics". Hopefully this version gave hope to this type offering plenty of new great techniques. Like Synthesis who replenishes your Hit Hoints. Giga Drain, like the word says drains the energy of your opponent, in doing that it heals half the damage you have taken from your opponent. Without forgetting Solar Beam a two turn attack but is worth the lost of its second turn 2. Type advantage - Disadvantage Grass Normal....Nothing Fire......Strong Water.....Weak Electric..Nothing Grass.....Weak Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Strong Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Strong Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Weak Dark......Nothing Steel.....Nothing Best of Type: 1) Meganium - A very solid pokemon who can deal great damage. It also has great defense that makes it a tremendously tough pokemon to beat. It has great moves like Synthesis and Body Slam. If you teach it TM 39 then you should think about leaving a free space in your party for this powerful pokemon. This should also be your choice as a starter (Chikorita). 2) Bellosom - A little bit weaker than Meganium but still a great pokemon. You have to evolve it from Gloom with a Sun Stone. They are very common in Gold/Silver/Crystal. It has great moves like Petal Dance and it can learn Solar Beam at level 55. 3) Venausaur - Most people will say this is the greatest grass pokemon but have you forgotten that it is weak to "Psychic". It is half type Poison, a very bad idea if you want to be a strong pokemon. I also think it is a great pokemon who learns great move but because of its weakness it can only be in third place. Pokemon of That Type: Chikorita Bayleef Meganium Bellsprout Weepinbell Victrebeel Hoppip Skiploom Jumpluff Paras Parasect Oddish Gloom Vileplume Bellosom Sunkern Sunflora Exeggcute Exeggutor Tangela Bulbasaur Ivysaur Venusaur *********************************************************************** *Ice - [ICE]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: Not a very common family but surely one the best. Ice is a very powerful family and is surely one of the rarest type compared to the others. A very good type with some big potential. This type doesn't have a lot of techniques but one thing is sure, the techniques they have are very strong. Aurora Beam, a good low level attack that does a lot of damage, it also has a 10% success of lowering attacks. Blizzard with its good accuracy and a 10% freeze can take damage out of a pokemon. Ice beam with a power of 95 and a 10% freeze success, not much could endure all this treatment. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Ice Normal....Nothing Fire......Weak Water.....Weak Electric..Nothing Grass.....Strong Ice.......Ice Fighting..Nothing Poison....Nothing Ground....Strong Flying....Strong Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Nothing Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Strong Dark......Nothing Steel.....Weak 3. Best of Type : 1) Lapras - Trusty Lapras is now the best Ice pokemon. Lapras starts with a good technique Sing. Also, it will learn Confuse Ray, Perish Song, Ice Beam and Hydro Pump. It can also learn a bunch a good TMs. Definitely the winner here. 2) Articuno - A tie with Cloyster. The legendary bird of Red/Blue/Yellow is in best of type. It can learn good attacks like Blizzard, only at level 73 though and Ice Beam at level 49. As always these legendary birds have second type flying that cuts their efficacy by half because of their weakness to electric. 2) Cloyster - A tie with Articuno, even if Articunos stats are better, Cloyster doesn't have the second type flying which doesn't make it vulnerable to electric pokemon. You'll have to teach it TMs if you want to bring his best potential into battle. Pokemon of That Type: Smoochum Jynx Cloyster Dewgong Delibird Swinub Piloswine Sneasel Lapras Articuno *********************************************************************** *Fighting - [FIGHTING]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: The fighting type. Not one of my favorite type due to their weakness against common types like Poison, Flying, Psychic and Bug and they can't even hit Ghosts. Even though they have great attacks. for me it is a waste of time raising one of these pokemon because their only strong against Ice, Steel and Dark type which are very uncommon types. Their real advantage is against Normal and Rock. So if you want to raise one then it will be against these two types that you'll want your fighting pokemon to battle against. They have decent attacks if we take the example of Counter which deals 2x the damage of a non-special attack. Cross Chop which is likely to become a critical hit and Dynamic Punch, if it hits confuses its opponent. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Fighting Normal....Strong Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Nothing Ice.......Strong Fighting..Nothing Poison....Weak Ground....Nothing Flying....Weak Psychic...Weak Bug.......Weak Rock......Strong Ghost.....Can't Hit Dragon....Nothing Dark......Strong Steel.....Strong To much variation for this type which makes them unreliable pokemons. Although their weaknesses, I think that a well-raised Hitmonlee can deal great damage to his opponents even if they are its worst nightmares. 3. Best of Type 1) Hitmonlee - Hitmonlee is the best fighting pokemon. Like in Red/Blue/Yellow, its good special defense and good attack make Hitmonlee the best fighter in the game. He will learn his greatest attack at level 46 Mega kick that has a power of 120. He will learn reversal at level 51. You could also teach him a great combo and that would be Rest and Snore. Naturally it won't just learn this combo itself, you'll have to teach him. 2) Hitmontop - Hitmontop is the second best Fighting pokemon. He'll learn triple kick at level 49 and can also learn the Rest and Snore combo with TMs. 3) Machamp - Machamp has better stats in general than Hitmonlee and Hitmontop. But, Machamps low speed isn't at it's advantage. Speed is a crucial element in this type of game. He'll lose in a one on one match against these two just because of its low speed. it's the main reason why it was placed in third. Although, it learns very good attacks like Cross Chop at level 43, which is pretty low for a good attack. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Poliwrath Heracross Mankey Primeape Machop Machoke Machamp Tyrogue Hitmonlee Hitmonchan Hitmontop *********************************************************************** *Poison - [POISON]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description - One of the worst type of the game and maybe the worst of every type. Poison pokemon in Red/Blue/Yellow just suck the way through. Anyhow, in Gold and Silver TMs brought this type up a bit. Attacks like Sludge Bomb and Toxic played a big role in these game to raise up their effectiveness into battle. Even though this great idea brought up the poison type, it won't enough. They hade to innovate in techniques and they have done exactly what we were waiting for. They brought up good TMs and techniques. Anyway, no good pokemon have I remarked to be as powerful as other type pokemons. Not a single good pokemon of note for that type has been made up in Gold/Silver/Crystal. So it's best to use the old ones even though they aren't as powerful as the other type except the half types. Their weakness is "Psychics" which is the strongest type in the game. I really suggest of thinking twice before leveling one of those. Your best choice here are the half type ones like Gengar that may stand a chance against those nasty "psychic" pokemons. 2. Type advantage - Disadvantage Poison Normal....Nothing Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Strong Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Weak Ground....Weak Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Nothing Rock......Weak Ghost.....Weak Dragon....Nothing Dark......Nothing Steel.....Can't Hit To much weakness for that type!! 3. Best Of Type: 1) Gengar - The half Poison Gengar. Gengar doesn't learn any poison techniques but you can teach him Toxic, which is a very good poison technique. You'll have to trade Haunter to evolve him but it is greatly worth the trade. 2) Weezing - Weezing is a great pokemon. Anyhow, since this type has to much weakness he isn't worthy to be a party pokemon. He'll learn Explosion at level 44 and Destiny Bond at 51. If you teach him that with Sludge Bomb and Toxic he could be an "ok" pokemon but he'll never stand a chance against "Psychics". 3) Muk - Muks stats are pretty well the same as Weezing. Anyhow, Weezing stats are much more balanced compared to Muk, which plays in the favor of good old Weezing. He'll learn Sludge Bomb at level 60. If you really want to train him to that level for a good poison attack then go for it. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Weedle Kakuna Beedrill Spinarak Araiados Zubat Golbat Crobat Ekans Arbok Gastly Haunter Gangar Bellsprout Weepinbell Victreebel Oddish Gloom Vileplume Nidoran (F) Nidorina Nidoqueen Nidoran (M) Nidorino Nidoking Venonat Venomoth Koffing Weezing Grimer Muk Quilfish Tentacool Tentacruel Bulbasaur Ivysaur Venausaur *********************************************************************** *Ground - [GROUND]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: Ground types are good but for a limited number of pokemons. Its weak to very few types if we compare them to the fighting type. Good attacks are part of this type like Fissure. The opponent will faint if it gets hit. Also Earthquake, a very incredible and powerful attack. I shall not forget this sometime frustrating but powerful attack Magnitude. This attack is good but only when it reaches magnitude 8, 9 or 10 (I don't know who far it can go because I never went higher than 10). Ground type is good and one on your party would be a good idea but like all types some are better than other and you have to choose them carefully. If you want to put up good fights against tough trainers in a near future I suggest to train your pokemon well. 2. Type advantage - Disadvantage Ground Normal....Nothing Fire......Strong Water.....Nothing Electric..Strong Grass.....Weak Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Nothing Poison....Strong Ground....Nothing Flying....Can't Hit Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Weak Rock......Strong Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Nothing Dark......Nothing Steel.....Strong 3. Best of Type: 1) Donphan - This pokemon is exclusive to the Silver version. This means, if you have the gold version than you can't capture it in the nature you'll have to trade him via a link cable. Donphan is the best ground type in the game. It's excellent attack makes a big difference compared to the others. Donphan learns almost every best attacks that the type has to offer. If you really want a tough ground pokemon than go for the mighty Donphan. 2) Dugtrio - This pokemon was the best ground type pokemon of Red/Blue/Yellow. Now he is a good second. Dugtrio has more speed than Donphan and this could play a big role in a battle against Donphan. Although, I think that Donphan is better even though he is slower than Dugtrio. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Geodude Graveler Golem Sandshrew Sandslash Wooper Quagsire Onix Steelix Nidoqueen Nidoking Diglett Dugtrio Gligar Swinub Piloswine Phanpy Donphan Cubone Marowak Ryhorn Rhydon Larvitar Pupitar *********************************************************************** *Flying - [FLYING]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: The flyers. There is a bunch of them so don't get stressed out if you haven't caught one yet. For me flyers aren't a good type. They need to be mixed with a very powerful type like psychic to stand a chance in battles. Don't level a flyer with mediocre type like normal, bug or any other of the weakest types. They have to be mixed with Fire, Water, Psychic or if its legendary for weaker types. Flying type is basically leveled for the HM Fly. It will transport you with more ease. Very few flying techniques are good, and when I say very few I mean one or two. Their is Aeroblast, that is likely to become a critical hit. Also Sky Attack, which is a second turn attack but very powerful. These attacks don't come on every flying pokemon, just on the legendary ones. Even then, not all legendary flyers have these attacks. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Flying Normal....Nothing Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Weak Grass.....Strong Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Strong Poison....Nothing Ground....Nothing Flying....Nothing Psychic...Nothing Bug.......Strong Rock......Weak Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Nothing Dark......Nothing Steel.....Weak 3. Best Of Type: 1) Lugia - One thing is sure Lugia rocks in this game. Lugia has the best flying attack, Aeroblast. In this game, he has the best stats of all pokemons. So its hard to argue the fact that he's the best Flyer. 2) Legendary Flying Pokemons: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Ho-oh all these are in the top twenty of the stats cumulative so I think they deserve the right to be put in the top flyers. Only Moltres learns Sky attack, which is the second best flying technique. 3) Skarmory - Silvers exclusive pokemon, the mighty Skarmory. This half steel pokemon is hard to beat with its good defense and a lot of immunities. This half steel pokemon can take some damage before it faints. He doesn't learn any good flying techniques, he'll only start with the mediocre attack Gust. 4. Pokemon of That Type: Pidgey Pidgeotto Pidgeot Spearow Fearow Hoothoot Noctowl Butterfree Ledyba Ledian Zubat Golbat Crobat Togetic Hoppip Skiploom Jumpluff Gyarados Yanma Scyther Farfetch'd Natu Xatu Gligar Delibird Mantine Skarmory Doduo Dodrio Murkrow Aerodactyl Charizard Articuno Zapdos Moltres Dragonite Lugia Ho-oh A lot of Legendary pokemon here! *********************************************************************** *Psychic - [PSYCHIC]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: The best type of pokemon games. Most of the legendary pokemons belong to this type with all there good stats and attacks. The two best pokemons belong to this type. Lugia and Mewtwo are the two top pokemons in the top twenty cumulative. there isn't much to argue about this type. Leave at least a space for this type of pokemon or you'll be missing an important element in your team of pokemon. There's extremely good techniques for this type. Dream Eater, Future Sight, Hypnosis, Mirror Coat and Psychic. I strongly suggest to make space for a pokemon of that type. One or two can make the job but you have to train at least one pokemon of this type. As always some are not as good as others so it will come to you to make the right choice. This type has weaknesses but a well-trained psychic pokemon can faint almost everybody. This also depends on which psychic pokemon you have chosen. If you have chosen Natu then don't expect much from him because he is what we can call a bad pokemon. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Psychic Normal....Nothing Fire......Nothing Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Nothing Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Strong Poison....Strong Ground....Nothing Flying....Nothing Psychic...Weak Bug.......Nothing Rock......Nothing Ghost.....Nothing Dragon....Nothing Dark......Can't Hit Steel.....Weak 3. Best of Type: 1) Mewtwo - Lugia is better than Mewtwo with a somewhat big advantage but Mewtwo is focused on a single type, which is at his advantage. Mewtwo is a very reliable pokemon but you can't get him unless you've traded or gotten it via gameshark. Anyway, a very solid pokemon who learns great attacks at each 11 levels. He'll learn Future Sight at level 44, Psychic at level 66, Recover at level 88. He can also learn a hole bunch of TMs. 2) Lugia - Like I said Lugia has a weakness that Mewtwo doesn't have. Lugia has the weakness of being weak to Electric. Even though Lugia stats are a bit higher and that he would probably beat up Mewtwo his weakness makes all the difference. Lugia learns attacks at each 11 levels (like Mewtwo). He'll learn Future Sight at level 99 which is pretty high but he can learn a hole bunch of TMs to replace this attack. 3) Mew - The little pokemon from Red/Blue/Yellow is in the top of the psychic type. He'll learn Psychic at level 40 which is pretty low for a good. He can also learn every HM and TM, which makes him a very reliable pokemon. (I had two Mews, one that was on my party as a HM sufferer. The other one, I taught him the three best TMs of the game as well as his strong attack Psychic that he learns at level 40.) He learns Metronome if you want to save money on TMs. 4) Espeon - The new evolution of Eevee made its way out with its high special attack, 280 points. He'll evolve from Eevee based on tameness. If he evolves during the day he will turn into a beautiful but dangerous Espeon. Espeon has very good stats which makes him a very tough pokemon. Mew and Mewtwo can't be caught in Gold/Silver/Crystal and Lugia has this weakness against Electric pokemon. So if you cannot trade or gameshark your Mew or Mewtwo then stick with the newly design Eevee evolution Espeon. Lugia is not a good idea especially if you have the gold version because he won't know its best Flying technique, Aeroblast. Also, remember that only him can learn Aeroblast so stick with Espeon if you have the Gold version and you can't trade or gameshark a Mew or Mewtwo. (Celebi - He is not the fifth best Psychic pokemon. It is only mention here because you can't catch it without a gameshark. I just thought that it wouldn't be fair to put him in. I thought it would be like cheating a pokemon because it is only available via Gameshark). 4. Pokemon of That Type: Unknown Slowpoke Slowbro Slowking Drowsee Hypno Abra Kadabra Alakazam Exeggcute Exeggutor Woobuffet Girafrig Smoochum Jynx Mr. Mime Natu Xatu Starmie Espeon Lugia Mewtwo Mew Celebi *********************************************************************** *Bug - [BUG]* *********************************************************************** 1. Brief Description: You'll definitely want one because otherwise you'll have trouble beating up those nasty psychic pokemons. Bug class is a very Common type. The best place to catch most of them is in the Bug contest. Some good moves are from that type if we take the example of Megahorn, it has an attack power of 120. That makes a lot of damage to an opponent pokemon. Also their is Spider Web, an attack especially design to catch some tough pokemons easier. They can't escape a battle if they ever suffer from this attack. I really think it is a good type and that you should have at least one in your party. At least a pokemon who has a bug technique because you will have trouble settling out a psychic pokemon. Watch out though because many of the good bug pokemons have a second type so chose carefully the one you want. 2. Type Advantage - Disadvantage Bug Normal....Nothing Fire......Weak Water.....Nothing Electric..Nothing Grass.....Strong Ice.......Nothing Fighting..Weak Poison....Weak Ground....Nothing Flying....Weak Psychic...Strong Bug.......Nothing Rock......Nothing Ghost.....Weak Dragon....Nothing Dark......Strong Steel.....Weak 3. Best of Type: 1) Scizor - The best bug pokemon of the game even though it lost its speed from Scyther. It makes up for it though with good defense and a variety of decent moves. Also don't forget to teach him fury Cutter to catch tough pokemon easier. It also made the top five for the attack |
