# National Dex
Have over sixty Pokemon in your Pokedex and defeat the Elite Four. Return to Pallet Town
and see the professor. He will give the National Dex to Gary and yourself. You can use it
to see the data for all 386 Pokemon.
# Network Machine
This allows you to trade to Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Fix the Network Machine on One
Island. To do this, get the Sapphire and Ruby items and take them to the machine.
# Mystery Gift option
Enter any Pokemon Mart and go to the clipboard that is by the shop keeper on the counter.
Take the survey and enter in the words "LINK TOGETHER WITH ALL". The man will
then alert you that you can now have access to the Mystery Gift option, after saving. To
make it easier to find the word you are looking for, press Select, which will take you to
A-Z mode, then select the a letter to bring up a list of words, beginning with the first
letter of the word that it begins with.
# Get all starters
To get all the starters (Bulbasaur,Charmander, and Squirtle), you will need two Game Boy
Advances and another Pokemon GBA game. Start with Bulbasaur, then trade it to your other
Pokemon game. After that, start a new game. Start with Charmander and trade it. Then,
start another new game and start with Squirtle. Keep Squirtle and catch two Pokemon that
you do not want. Trade them for the other two starters you traded to your other Pokemon
game. You will now have all three starters.
# Aerodactyl
To get the ancient Pokemon Aerodactyl, go to the house to the right of the Museum in
Pewter City. Note: You must have Cut. Talk to the scientist and he will give you the Old
Amber. Take it to the Lab on Cinnabar Island and let the scientist bring it back to life.
It will be at level 5.
# Articuno
Surf south from Fuschia until you hit a barrier. Then, Surf west to the Seafoam Islands.
When you see boulders, push them into the pits to reach the legendary bird Articuno.
# Recommended moves for Beedrill
First, catch a Weedle . Then, train it until it turns into a Beedrill. Teach it the TM
Aerial Ace . Train it (use it at gyms that use Grass/Bug Pokemon ) until it is at level
50. It should know the move Endeavor. Use it at tight spots.
# Deoxys
To obtain Deoxys, you must travel to Island 9 and push the triangle forward. To do this,
you need to obtain the Aurora Ticket, which can only obtained through a Nintendo Event,
such as Pokemon Rocks America 2004. Bring your Pokemon Fire Red or Leaf Green cartridge to
any of the events in Atlanta, Minneapolis, or Seattle to receive the Aurora Ticket. The
same goes for obtaining Lugia, Ho-Oh (both on Island 8, requiring Mystery Pass); and
Celebi and Mew (details unknown). Note: Ho-Oh can also be obtained via a link to Pokemon
Coliseum. In the Pokemon Fire Red, you will get the attack version of Deoxys.
# Lapras
On the Island 4, go to where you met Lorelli of the Elite Four. Then, Surf on the water .
If you are lucky, you will see a wild Lapras.
# Ledyba
Ledyba can be found in Pattern Bush on Six Island.
# Mewtwo
Defeat the Elite Four, then go to the Cerulean City Cave. Mewtwo will be there. You will
need HM6 Rock Smash and HM3 Surf.
# Moltres
To get Moltres you need HM4 Strength, HM6 Rock Smash, and HM3 Surf. Go to One Island, and
all the way to the right until you reach water. Surf to the north and you will see land.
Continue to go north until you hit water again. Then, Surf north again until you reach
land. Go up and move the boulders. Continue to go up and you will enter Mt. Ember. Pass
the mountain and you will see more boulders up ahead. Move them and you will encounter
Moltres, the Legendary Fire Bird Pokemon.
# Zapdos
To catch a Zapdos, go to the Pokemon Center beside the Rock Cave. From the Pokemon Center,
go up until you reach water. Surf to the Power Plant and go inside. Find your way around,
and at the end you will find Zapdos, the Thunder type Legendary Bird.
# Legendary Dogs
The legendary dog that you get in the game depends on your starter:
Charmander: Suicune (Water)
Squirtle: Raikou (Thunder)
Bulbasaur: Entei (Fire)
To get all three Legendary Dogs, get together with two friends before any of you start the
game. Have one player get Charmander, another get Squirtle, and the other get Bulbasaur.
Each of you will get one of the legendary dogs: Charmander, Suicune; Squirtle, Raikou; and
Bulbasaur, Entei. Once each of you has their own dog, trade one dog for another. For
example, player one's Suicune for player two's Entei; player three's Raikou for player
one's Entei; and Player three's Raikou for player two's Suicune. Additionally, use the
following trick to easily catch Suicune, Raikou, or Entei without a Master Ball. Get a
Pokemon the learns the move Mean Look or something similar, or get a Pokemon with the
Arena Trap or Shadow Tag abilities to prevent them from escaping. If they do, you will get
another chance to catch them, providing you do not make them faint.
# Johto Pokemon
To get your first Pokemon from the Johto Region, defeat the Elite Four. Go to Island 3,
then go in the tunnel. Talk to the man and he will give you a Nugget. Go out the door, and
there will be a small patch of grass. Walk around in it, and you will find your first
Johto Pokemon.
# Duplicate Pokemon
Note: This trick will only work on Pokemon that have a gender. Either male or female will
do. For example, if you want a friend's Charizard but you do not want to trade a level 100
male Venusaur for it, catch a Ditto on Route 13 to 15. Take both your Venusaur and Ditto
to 4 Island to the old couple and breed them. The next morning you will have a Bulbasaur
egg ready to trade. This can be used to get all the evolutions of Evee. Note: This trick
will not work on Mewtwo or most of the legendary Pokemon.
Use the following trick to easily reproduce rare Pokemon, such as Charizard, Lapras, etc.
Capture a Ditto in Pokemon Fire Red or Leaf Green. These can be found in the cave at
Cerulean. Transfer your Ditto to Pokemon Sapphire or Ruby, then take it to the Daycare
couple in Mauville and leave it there. The quickest way to get an egg is to cycle back and
forth a few times in front of the Daycare Center until the old man comes out of the gate.
The egg he gives you will hatch into the first evolution of whatever Pokemon you put into
the daycare. For example, a Charizard will give you a Charmander. Trade with friends to
get the other starters, breed an egg, then trade back. The hatched Pokemon will have you
as the original trainer. Some Pokemon will not breed in this way, even though they have a
gender (such as Latios and Latias).
# Easy money
To get easy money, use a Meowth with the Pay Day attack in wild or trainer battles.
# Infinite Safari Zone time
Enter the Safari Zone, then walk into an area and stop in the grass Then, tap the D-pad,
but do not move You will find the Pokemon in that area without wasting steps.
Find one location in the Safari Zone that suits you. Then, just rotate in place. Random
Pokemon should you attack you every few rotations.
Go into a patch of grass in the Safari Zone with a Pokemon (like Oddish) that has Sweet
Scent. When you use Sweet Scent, you will get attacked by wild Pokemon without having to
move. Keep doing this until you find a Pokemon that you want.
# New moves
There are four new moves not found in earlier Pokemon games:
Blast Burn (Fire): Power: 120, Accuracy: 100, leaves the user immobile the next
turn.
Hydro Cannon (Water): Power: 120, Accuracy: 100, leaves the user immobile the next
turn.
Frenzy Plant (Grass): Power: 120, Accuracy: 100, leaves the user immobile the next
turn.
Volt Tackle (Thunder): Power: 120, Accuracy:100, slightly hurts the user.
To get the new moves, you must go to the woman's house on Cape Brink on Island Two and
talk to her. If your starter is Charmeleon, you will get Bast Burn; Squirtle is Hydro
Cannon; and Bulbusaur is Frenzy Plant. To get Volt Tackle, you must use an electric
Pokemon. You must have the Pokemon first in your party.
# Poison Sting
The Poison Sting attack can always poison if you press and release A at the exact time..
Time it by looking at one of the bubbles. For example, fight a Mankey. The one that
crosses the hand to the left of the screen is the one to time it by, by pressing A just as
it starts to pass the hand and releasing it just as it pops. It always poisons the enemy.
This works for all Pokemon with the Poison Sting ability against all enemies, except for
Bug types. Also, the Constrict attack can always get criticals if you press and release A
twice while the vines are pulsating.
# Berries
Find a black mark in the grass, then go up to it and press A. Note: This will not work
with items such as Big Pearl, Stardust, and Rare Candies.
# Black Belt
After you get to One Island, travel up the path called Kindle Road and go towards the
volcano. Along this route, you will encounter several trainers with Fighting-type Pokemon.
Have your Pokemon use Thief to steal a Black Belt from each of the Pokemon. After you have
a Black Belt, take it off your Pokemon and use the VS Seeker to fight the opponent again.
Steal another Black Belt from his other Pokemon. Every Fighting-type on this route is
equipped with a Black Belt, which boosts the power of all Fighting-type moves.
# Nuggets
Go to the last person (Team Rocket member) on Nugget Bridge. Lose to that person after you
get the Nugget. Repeat this until you have the desired number of Nuggets. Note: If you
save the your game after defeating him, you will no longer be able to do this.
# Rare Candy
To get more Rare Candies, look for some Meowths. You are 30% likely to get one.
# Repel and Super Repel
Repel and Super Repel will keep all wild Pokemon of a lower level than the first Pokemon
in your party from attacking. However, if the wild Pokemon is of the same level or higher,
it will attack. Due to the decreased amount of Pokemon to fight, you will have less random
encounters. To exploit the use of this, go to a cave with high level Pokemon such as at
Victory Road or Union Cave. Use the Repel once inside. Find a boxed-in type of corner and
tap the D-pad gently towards a wall. If done correctly, you will not hear a bumping sound.
Doing this should not reduce the number of steps remaining on you Repel counter, because
the Repel only counts movement that causes the character to take a step not turning. Just
turn into a wall to make it easier for beginners. This trick is useful because you are
always facing a Pokemon that is of equal or greater level, allowing you to get levels much
faster than usual.
# Running Shoes
Follow through Viridian Forest, go to Brock (the first gym leader), and defeat him. Brock
has three Pokemon: Geodude level12, Onix level 14, and Geodude level 11. Then, go to the
path that leads to Mount Moon's base. Try to go past the man standing slightly past the
entrance. He should stop you. He is Professor Oak's assistant. After talking to him, he
will give you the Running Shoes. Additionally, your aide will give you the Running Shoes
after the first gym.
# Sacred Ash
Go to the Naval Rock Island (if you have the Mystic Ticket), and to the location where
Ho-oh confronted you. Use the Itemfinder and it will automatically dig up the Sacred Ash,
just like the Macho Brace at Viridian Gym after Giovanni left; and the Top from Pokemon
Tower after Mr. Fugi left.
# Thunderstone
In the Power Station, in the room with Zapdos, use your Itemfinder to locate an item in
that area. You should find a Thunderstone.
# Silph Co.
Go to the fifth floor. Then, go right until you reach a wall. You will see a Team Rocket
grunt. Do not go in front of him. Instead, go all the way up so he must walk to fight you.
Make sure that when he walks up, he makes it so you can walk past him after you defeat
him. An easy way to defeat him is to use Water type Pokemon with Surf, After defeating
him, go behind him down the narrow path, then turn. You will see a Pokeball. It has the
Card Key, which is the item that you need to open doors. Go back out and down to level
three. Go left until you see a locked room that has a portal in it. It also has a locked
room behind it as well. Go into the first locked room and use the warp. Make sure you have
some strong Pokemon to battle your rival. Defeat him, then talk to the man standing
against the left wall. He will heal you and give you Lapris. Then, go through the other
portal (not the one you came from, but other on on the other side of the table). Defeat
the Team Rocket grunt, then defeat the Team Rocket Boss. Next, talk to the owner of Silph
Co. He will give you the Master Ball. You now can fight Gym Leader Sabrina.
# Get to One Island
To Get to One Island, defeat the Cinnabar Island Gym Leader, Blaine. When you come out,
Bill will take you to One Island and give you the Tri-Pass. This will allow you to return
at any time by taking the Pass to the boat dock in Vermilion City.
# Get to Saffron City
Unlike in Pokemon Red and Blue, to get into Saffron City, you do not give the guard a
Fresh Water. You must go to Celadon City then enter the Game Freak building. Inside is an
old woman with Pokemon around her It is the building above the Game Corner. Once there,
talk to the old lady. She gives you some "tea", which you can then give to the
guard. All the guards will now let you go into Saffron City. Remember to get the powerful
TM 29 Psychic in Mr. Psychic's house (in the bottom far left house of the city). Also,
your Pokemon should at least level 38 or higher when attempting to battle Sabrina.
# Get to Saffron City earlier
This trick requires two Game Boy Advances, a link cable, a Pokemon Ruby or Sapphire game
with a "Fresh Water" in the pack, and a Pokemon Fire Red or Leaf Green game that
is completed and able to trade with Pokemon Ruby or Sapphire. Also, you will need another
Pokemon Fire Red or Leaf Green cartridge. Give a Pokemon a Fresh Water. Trade the Pokemon
from Pokemon Ruby or Sapphire to the completed Pokemon Fire Red or Leaf Green game. Take
the Fresh Water and attach it to a Pokemon not from Pokemon Ruby or Sapphire. Trade it to
the other Pokemon Fire Red or Leaf Green game. Give the Fresh Water to the guard. You can
now access Saffron City easier. You can also do the same thing without the Pokemon Ruby or
Sapphire cartrigde. Also, it works better when you have the completed cartridge and your
friend has the unfinished game.
# Navigate through the lost cave on Island 5
Move right, up, down, down, right, left, down, right, up and you will arrive at your
destination. Note: You can go different ways, but you will end up either finding an item
or going back to the start.
# Get to Sabrina without battling any trainers
This is a long process, but it is the easiest way. Go into the first square, then go up,
down, down, up, down, up, up, down, down, up, up, up, down, then down and you will be
there.
# Catching Safari Zone Pokemon
When you encounter a Safari Zone Pokemon, throw a rock at it. If it does not flee, use a
safari ball. You should be able to catch it about 85% of the time.
# Easy slot machine wins in Celedon City
Use the slot machine at Celdadon City that is at the top in the row you face when you
enter. It seems to be easier to get triple sevens if you can time it correctly.
# Naval Rock
When you first go in, just go straight until you hit a wall. If you want to get Lugia
first, go to the right. If you want Ho-oh first, go to the left. It really does not
matter, because you can get both. They will both appear at level 70.
# Vs. Seeker
Go to the Vermilion Pokemon Center and talk to the girl closest to Nurse Joy.
# More than one attempt when catching a Legendary Pokemon
When you are close to a Legendary Pokemon and want to catch it, save the game just before
you battle it. If you accidentally make it faint, Just reset the game and try again.
# Determining Pokemon's feelings towards you
When you use an item on one of your Pokemon outside of a battle, such as a Potion, the
Pokemon will either move closer or away from you in the short intermission sequence. How
far the Pokemon moves depends on how much it likes you. If it does not move at all, it
feels neutral.
# Answers to Blaine's questions
The answers, in order are: yes, no, no, no, yes, and no.
# Trainer name comment
At the Pokemon Trainer Fan Club in Saffron City, the blonde man in the back will mention
the last person you battled in real life. For example, if you battle a friend who named
their character "Dusty", he will say, "Dusty's cool, huh? I love the way he
talks. I'd really relish a chance to meet him in person once."
# In-game reset
While playing the game, press A + B + Start + Select.
# Recommended starter
Choose a starter Pokemon (Bulbasaur recommended), then battle your rival. After you reach
One Island, make sure you have two Fire Pokemon. This depends on your starter Pokemon.
Also, make sure that one is highly trained, so it has at least one strong attack. Also,
make sure this Pokemon is a male. Then, put them in the daycare. When they find an egg,
take it. Then, train this Pokemon to a high level (just high enough to defeat your rival).
# Defeating Bruno
After you have already conquered the Elite Four, use a strong Fire and Flying type and you
will win. One strong attack from a Charizard, such as Fire Blast will be able to
obliterate both Steelix with one hit. Hitmonlee can be defeated from one Fly (HM Tech)
attack. Hitmonchan can be defeated with a Fly attack, followed by a quick Wing Attack.
# Defeating the Elite Four
After you defeat the Elite Four and you give Celio the Ruby and Sapphire Plate (on the
seven islands), you can re-challenge the Elite Four. Their Pokemon are now changed and
become much more stronger than the first time you challenged them. Here are the
combinations:
Lorelei: Dewgong level 64, Cloyster level 63, Piloswine level 64 (replaced Slowbro),
Jynx, and Lapras level 66.
Bruno: Steelix level 63, Steelix level 66, Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee level 65,
Machamp level 68 (his 2 Onix have evolved).
Agatha: Gengar level 66, Crobat level 66, Arbok level 68, Misdreavus level 65
(replaced Haunter), Gengar level 70 (her Golbat has evolved).
Lance: Gyarados level 68, Kingdra level 66, Aerodactyl level 70, Dragonite level 66,
Dragonite level 72 (one of his Dragonair evolved, and the other was replaced by Kingdra).
Rival: Heracross level 71, Alakazam level 69, Tyranitar level 72, and depending on
who you chose at the start;
If you have Bulbasaur: Gyarados level 71, Exeggutor level 73, Charizard level 75.
If you have Squirtle: Gyarados level 73, Arcanine level 71, Venusaur level 75.
If you have Charmander:Exeggutor level 73, Arcanine level 71, Blastoise level 75.
For Lorelei, you need a level 60 or higher Electric type with like Thunder or Thunderbolt.
Watch out; her Piloswine is also a Ground type and is immune to Electricity. Use Water
type or Fighting. Bruno is very easy to defeat if you have a very good Water type for the
Steelixes and a level 53 or higher Alakazam or Kadabra; or a very strong Psychic type.
Agatha is tough because of her speedy Pokemon. If you have an Alakazam and it is at least
level 58 or higher, then you will have no problems. If not, try using a strong Steel type.
Lance is annoying because he now has a Kingdra, which is not really affected by Ice types
because of its Water type. Use a tough Electric type. The rest are easily dispatched by an
Ice Beam or Blizzard. Your Rival is difficult. His Heracross has good speed, but flying
attacks kill it because of his double weakness. His Alakazam can be defeated by a good
Hyper Beam or even Strength because it lacks defense (not special defense). His Exeggutor
or Gyarados are poor, but his Arcanine is strong -- do not underestimate him. The real
problems are his Tyrannitar and the starter. Tyrannitar is good in every stat, and he is a
Dark type which makes him unaffected by Psychic types. He is also a Rock type, so use
Razor Leaf or Surf. The starter is tough, and is not easily dispatched.
# Defeating Giovanni
An easy way to defeat Giovanni in all battles is to use a Water Pokemon with Surf on all
his Pokemon.
# Defeating Sabrina
Buy a Poke Doll from the department store in Celadon City. Then, go to the top left house
in Saffron City and go upstairs. Talk to the girl and she will teach one of your Pokemon
Mimic. Go to the gym and begin your battle against Sabrina. Once she uses a Psychic move
with one of her Pokemon, Mimic it and you will have it for the rest of the battle.
