There are a ton of cheats that say to use time travel in different ways to get bells. You can do it that way but BEWARE!! weeds will collect over time. and too many weeds will result in the raffelsia plant. its a giant flower in the center of town. it WILL NOT go away unless you pick EVEY LAST WEED. Also, time travel is kind of cheating. i mean, its there so why not use it but you should only use it if you missed an event or missed an important visitor. it's more fun to earn you bells by yourself. i never used a money cheat and i eventually earned over 400,000 bells! i left some in the bank ang earned a good amount of interest. Also, im on the home expansion with the two side rooms aand second floor. Good ways to earn bells yourself are: run errands for residents, use the turnip market, sell unwanted items, plant/sell non-native fruit, find/sell fossils, catch fish+bugs, and add bells to your bank account. There's also alot to miss out on with time travel: holidays, special visitors, special occasions, Tom Nook's sales, and just livin it up with your little animal friends!
