Frequently Asked Questions [FAQ] ----------- These are answers to some of the annoying questions which are asked on the boards at gamefaqs ALL the time. If you don't want to be spoiled, be sure not to read anything except the questions. Q. In Subterran Hell, I have found a place filled with spikes! How do I cross? A. It's actually very simple, but you're going to need at least one extra soul. One way is to get the bone arc, a normal enemy in subterran hell. The enemy is 2 skeletons, carrying a skeleton bullhead which shoots energyballs, they are just outside one of the subterran hell savespots. Another way is to get the bat company soul and fly over. But wow, there is a wall, you can't fly all the way! To get under the wall, you need puppet master, and the soul from the skeleton who throws barrels. It will allow you to throw the puppet to the other side. Q. I killed Rehab, where do I go? or: I killed Gergoth, where do I go? or: I killed Zephir, where do I go? A. There is ONE place in this game, where you can choose which bosses to fight, and this has of course created trouble for tons of people. Some people go down and fight Rehab, the fish, then they have no idea what to do. Others never go down to Rehab and goes up and fight Gergoth, but then have no idea what to do, or they fight Gergoth AND Rehab, but still can't advance. The solution is relatively easy: If you have beaten Rehab, you need to beat Gergoth. You will find him easily: Go to the save before you fought Demitrii, but insted of going down to where you fought him, go directly to the right and you will find a room with big bells. Jump on them and you'll find a hole in the wall. Use Puppet Master to enter. Maybe you have killed Gergoth but have no idea where to go? After you have killed Gergoth, you are supposed to climb the tower again. Use flying armor to pass the destroyed area. When you have reached the top, you will find a key. The gate is to the left of the same tower, you should have no problem finding it. It will lead to clock tower. Have you killed both Zephir and Gergoth? Then, it's time for Rehab. Go down to the warp before Demitrii, in the room with ghost dancers and alamaric snipers. Now, go down insted of up, and you'll get to an underground place with some demons and spikes that fall from the roof. Explore this and you should find the way to subterran hell. Here, fight Rehab, then continue down the Subterran hell. You will eventually find a room where time stops. Use the Zephir soul here, and there you go :) Q. I beat the last boss but didn't unlock anything! A. Actually, you beat Dario for the secend time, he isn't the last boss. You unlocked the lame ending, but there are 3. Good, bad and lame/meh/middle endings. By beating Dario, you got the lame ending. Insted, go from the pinnacle towards the demon guest house, and you'll enter the upper part which was not accessible from demon guest house itself. Go to the top left and you will find a corridor with 3 stone walls with pictures of enemies on them. Use the soul of that enemy on the wall. The enemies are: Axe armor, Killer Clown and Ukoback. You can now fight Paranoia, a pretty hard optional boss. With his soul, you can enter the mirror during the Dario fight and fight Aguni, the fire demon. Kill him and you will be told to go to the middle of the castle. Enter here, and you'll get the bad ending, unlocking Julius mode. To pass this bad ending, simply use Minas Talisman. Now keep going to the right and down the hole with the black barrier. Here the game continues for a while, and you'll eventually get the good ending. REMEMBER: You can ALWAYS load your last save after beating it, so be sure to get all the endings! DO get the bad ending, then load and equip the talisman. Q. How do I make money? A. There are several good tactics. One is to kill zombies, get 9 souls, buy 9 brass knuckles from hammer, then upgrade them to cestus at Yoko, then sell them back to hammer. You will make about 26 000 gold each time you do this. Zombie souls are very common, so it shouldn't be a problem. (Thanks PoL4RiZ) Another way is to use the mimic soul, which gives you cash when you are damaged. Go to the spikes in the clock tower and run into them. If you're hurt anything over 100, you'll get 500 gold each time. The third way is to equip the gold ring which makes things drop more money. Just find a room with lots of candles and run back and forth, getting 500 gold from the drops. Q. I see doors with three numbers on them. How do these work? A. The number you see on the door is the number you need your gold to end in. If the door say 777, you need for example 13777, 192777 or 1777 gold. Q. How do I get the monsters from the UMA news? A. Flying humanoid is the most simple. In the room between the saveroom and the zephir fight, you can see a small ghostly thing fly in the background. Throw a mandragora and it will die. It always gives its soul. Yeti is a bit harder, but still simple. Get the waiter skeleton soul. Now go to the first "room" in the castle, where you started, outside in the woods. You should see a yeti wander around in the background. Use the waiter soul so the food lands close to where the Yeti is in the background and he will arrive. Kill him for his soul. The hardest one is Mothman. He is in The Pinnacle, in the corridor under the room where you fight alastor. This corridor contains two final guards, so you have to be pretty powerful. Kill one of the guards and you'll find a spotlight in the middle of the corridor. Use the rycuda soul on the switch, and it will light up. Mothman will arrive. Q. Where is Yoko and Alucard in Julius mode? A. Yoko is where her shop was in the normal game. Alucard is where he gave Soma Minas talisman in the normal game, in the demon guesthouse after the first Dario fight. Q. No, I need a boss to upgrade a weapon!/Can you get boss souls more than once? A. You can only get boss souls one time for each game, which indeed is a problem since you need Gergoth to upgrade the great sword and Death to upgrade the axe. This is not a problem. Either you get 100% souls before you upgrade those weapons, or you beat the game for the good ending and start a new game+. New Game+ is the best way, since with the upgraded weapons, it will take you about 1 hour to rush thru the whole game and get back to where you were. You will however loose your levels. Q. I can't get X monsters soul! A. Yes you can. There is NO enemy in this game which does not have a soul. To maximize your chances, equip items that give good luck, like the Three 7s armor. Buy the soul eater ring from hammer. Master the Ghost Dancer soul, it will give you +18 Luck. If you need even more, use the flying humanoid soul while killing the monsters. It's debated on the boards how much this helps, but it does increase luck. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Walkthrough [WALK] ----------- THIS SECTION IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION, use the frequently asked questions part for now. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------- Bosses [BOSS] ----------- Sections: A. How to use B. The bosses 1. Flying Armor 2. Balore 3. Demitrii 4. Malphas 5. Dario 6. Puppet Master 7. Rehab 8. Gergoth 9. Zephyr 10. Bat Company 11. Dario II 11. Paranoia 12. Aguni 13. Death 14. Abaddon 15. Menace ----------- A. How To Use ----------- This is a pretty basic boss guide, but it should be effective. First, I will use this layout to describe the boss: 1. Name Description: This will be the same as the enemy list in-game. Seal: This is the seal you need to open the door and to seal the boss. Soul: This is the soul you get. Within () you see the type, and after that you see the information, also from in-game. Then a guide to kill it is found. It's basicly a list of the bosses attacks and different ways to evade/counter them. There's some extra information about good tactics though. These are the bosses special attacks, I do not count the fact that enemies damage on collision. So while Abaddon can hurt you by jumping into you, it's not an attack, it's simply movement, and it won't be covered in the guide. Eventually, I will put Julius mode specific strategies in. ----------- A. The Bosses ----------- *********** 1. Flying Armor Description: A sinister cape-clad figure that hovers in the air. Seal: Level 1 Soul: (Guardian Soul) Reduce the speed of falling. *********** This boss is, as a first boss should be, a piece of cake. Just jump and hit him. He has 3 forms of attack, other than just floating around, and this is how you handle them: 1. He holds his two swords as a staff, spinning it, similar to the armor knight soul you got in the start. Just run away from him, he won't do it for long. 2. He points his swords upwards and they fly away. The swords will come out at the lower part of the screen, jump over them when they do. 3. He points his swords in different directions towards you and shoots them. Run away and dodge them. His swords are slow and easily dodged and he doesn't have a lot of hp. Keep smacking him when he's not attacking and he'll be dead. ----------- *********** 2. Balor Description: A demon with a fear-inducing gaze. Seal: Level 1 Soul: (Ability Soul) Touch the Touch Screen to shatter certain blocks. *********** Balor is a whole different story than Flying Armor, here you will actually have to concentrate. He is a giant with a laser shooting eye. You will basically be fighting his head. He has a bit more attacks than Flying armor: 1. The most dangerous one, is his eye-laser. A second or so before it starts, you see some purple energy gathering, this is your warning, duck! Ducking is the only way to evade this attack, and it hurts for quite a bit. 2. He will lower his hand close to his face. When he does this, run backwards, he will punch towards the roof. 3.He will raise his hand to around his eyes and smack towards the other wall, then he will lower his hand and do it again just over the floor. The first one should miss you if you're just standing on the ground. When he lowers his fist, jump up, smack him in the face, and land on it. You will be thrown backwards, but no damage. So when you're not evading, just stand close to his face, smacking it. If you have control over those attacks, you will be just fine. ----------- *********** 3. Dmitrii Description: He can learn the abilities of others. He is one of the dark lord's candidates. Seal: Level 2 to open the door, you do not need to seal Dmitrii. Soul: Not usable. *********** Dmitrii is no doubt the easiest boss in the game, and he's ugly too. What he does is, he copies any soul you use on him and use it against you. Simple enough, use a bad soul on him and he won't have any good way to attack you. My advice is to use the Une soul on him, it's not rare, so anyone can get it. After he has copied it, he will walk towards you and throw one. Go as close to it as you can without taking damage, then whack at him with your claymore or any great sword you have. He can take some damage, but since he can't hurt you, you will easily win. ----------- *********** 4. Malphas Seal: Level 2 Description: A black demon that is accompanied by crows. Soul: (Ability Soul) Execute a double jump. *********** Another easy boss, with only three methods of attack. 1. Standing on the ground, he sucks in crows from the background. These crows he calls in can't hurt you here, so just keep slashing him. Then he lifts into the air, and gets ready to send them all at you. If you are on his right, he will look to his right, so quickly run in under him to the other side. He will not change direction, so now you are free to attack his back. 2. He will fly up a bit and load energy into his hands. Stay semi-close but not under him. He will shoot a couple of dark energy balls downwards, then they home in on you. Simply jump over them, using flying armor if you need. 3. He shoots out blue feathers. This one is not as easy to see coming, but he will sort of load up his body. Stand beneath him and he won't be able to hit you. Like the others, just keep slashing and he'll be dead in no time. ----------- *********** 5. Dario Description: A man with inflammatory powers. He is one of the dark lord's candidates. Seal: Level 2 to open the door, you do not need to seal Dario. Soul: Not Usable. *********** This guy can actually be a challenge. He has quite a few attacks up his sleeves, but with this guide, you can't go wrong: 1. Punching the ground, he sends a flame wave towards you. Jump over and smack him on the way down. 2. Laughing and loading up, he sends 3 firepillars at you. There are two versions of this. In one version, there is one pillar where you're standing, then a second one where you stand a second or so later, then a third pillar in the middle of those two. In the other version, the third pillar will also be where you're standing. 3. Ability to throw a fireball towards you. Easily dodged if you can see it coming, but it's pretty fast. 4. Teleportation. He simply teleport to a different spot. He will always stand still, unless he is teleporting, so wait for one of his attacks, then get some shots in before he does the next one. Do not jump over him since I think that is what triggers the second version of the fire pillar move, which is much harder to avoid than the simple version. ----------- *********** 6. Puppet Master Description: The cursed king of dolls. It controls dolls and the dimensions. Seal: Level 3 Soul: (Bullet Soul) Throw a puppet and switch places with it. *********** This one is moderately hard, especially if you lack high damaging equipment or a high level. He has two forms of attack: 1. Letting out a storm of dolls which simply float around. 2. Teleports a doll into one of his hands and puts in a spike chamber. This doll then becomes you. This attack hurts like crazy! As soon as you see the doll forming in his hand, focus ALL you attacks on that hand until the doll is destroyed. My tip for this fight is: Use a great sword and the manticore soul. With this setup, you can stand close to his face and attack him, dealing good damage. The small dolls won't be able to hurt you since the manticore tail destroys them. The manticore tail will also help you destroy the dolls he puts in the chambers quicker. ----------- *********** 7. Rehab Description: A monster that dominates the seas. Seal: Level 3 Soul: (Ability Soul) Gain the ability to move underwater. *********** Surprisingly, we here have another very easy boss. The only problem with Rehab is his hp, which is quite high. There is no possible way to move under water against him, unless you're playing Boss Rush Mode or Julius mode, so you will fight him when he comes out of the water. He does this to attack in 3 different ways: 1. Comes right up, spinning. As long as you don't swim into him, you won't get hurt, so just bash at him. 2. Jump out of the water, over you, sending down sharp ice things. Smack him once when he comes up, then concentrate on dodging the ice. 3. Comes straight up and stands like that for a while, shooting some ice on the water. Stay close and cut him. You can stand on the ice he shoots out, but ignore this, it doesn't make him any easier. Keep track of him by watching the bubbles. After some attacks, he will spin in the water after coming down and you can usually get an extra hit here, go ahead and try. ----------- *********** 8. Gergoth Description: Imprisoned in solitude long ago, it slowly became evil and demented. Seal: Level 3 Soul: (Guardian Soul) Fire a devastating laser beam. *********** This is one of the hardest bosses in the game if you aren't high level and have good equipment. The room is small and Gergoth is huge so your ability to dodge is hampered. Touch him, and you will feel the pain, he is a strong monster. Keep track of him, stay low and hack at him with great sword/axe and you should be allright. Here are his attacks: 1. The jump. This is most used attack, and the most dangerous. He will back off, bend down (This is why you need to always stay in front of his head) and jump over to you. The only way to dodge this is to run under him when he jumps. Hard, but possible. 2. He starts to suck you into his mouth, then bites after a while. Just keep running away from him until he is done. 3. When you see a laserball form in his mouth, quickly run as close to his feet as you can without being hit and sit down. He will shoot a big laser which hits almost 100% of what's in front of him, but NOT directly in front of his feet. After you have hurt him enough, he will get mad and rush over and jump, destroying the ground. You will then fall down thru several floors to the bottom. Here are some advice: While in the air, slash at him. You can get some free hits, but keep track on the map so you're not close to him when you hit the ground. After you have gotten to the bottom, keep the same tactic as before and he will soon be dead. ----------- *********** 9. Zephyr Description: A demon with mastery over time. Seal: Level 3 Soul: (Bullet Soul) Stop time. *********** Cool boss and simple if you know how his attacks work. I suggest using a katana for this boss, but anything will work. The basic strategy is to wait for his move, then attack him, then await his next move. Never attack him unless he has just attacked. Here are his attacks: 1. He crouches down, and some blur effects surround him. This is is most usual attack, and the reason we shouldn't fight him until after he attacks. If you hit him during the crouch, he will stop time and slash you. It's possible to dodge, but pretty difficult. When he crouches, instead just wait. After a while, he will stand up, say something while stopping time, then jump over you, releasing some daggers. When he lands, he starts time again and the daggers fall towards you. Simply dodge the knifes and attack him. 2. He will sometimes simply throw a knife at you. Simple to dodge, but a good reason why you should try to keep a little distance between yourself and zephyr. 3. He will run at you, slashing. Jump over him and attack his back. 4. This one is pretty hard to dodge. He will jump into the roof and propel himself towards you, throwing a knife in midair. Even if you're certain he won't hit you, the knife might, so keep moving. One tactic is to jump over him when he does this, the knife will never hit if you do that. He takes a bit of damage, but if you understand his attacks, you shouldn't be hit even once. ----------- *********** 10. Bat Company Description: A group of bats that thinks and acts as one. Seal: Level 4 Soul: (Guardian Soul) Transform into a bat and fly. *********** What's more fun than fighting an army of red bats? This is a pretty challenging boss, as some of its moves are kind of hard to dodge. Learn when to strike and when to run, if you do, you will beat it, no problem. Here are the attacks: The bat company has 3 forms, a big bat, a head and a hand. Each of these forms has one way to fight you, and when it has tried to hurt you for a while, it will randomly choose its next form. 1. The bat. In this form, the bats will come together as a huge bat which will hunt you. It will move towards you, stop for a while, then move towards your new position. First of all, stay on the ground when you don't have to get over it! If you jump, you risk it flying into the air, and you won't be able to dodge it if it corners you. Attack it when it stands still, run when it moves towards you. If you're caught in a corner, jump over it with the help of the flying armor. 2. The hand. This is the most dangerous form. The hand will slowly fly towards you and if it hits you, it will drain LOTS of your hp and you won't be able to move. Smack it, backdash, smack it and when you're close to a wall, jump over it with flying armor. 3. The head. This is the easy one. The bats will form a head, shooting energy out of it's mouth. You can destroy the energy attacks with your weapon and get close enough to smack the head. The good part about bat company is its relatively low amount of hp. Fight it effectively and you won't have to endure many forms. ----------- *********** 11. Dario II Description: A man with inflammatory powers. He is one of the dark lord's candidates. Seal: Level 4 to open the door, you do not need to seal Dario. Soul: None *********** This is not really a boss. Dario hasn't gotten much more powerful, he only has one new attack which I will describe below. His fireball attack also shoots three fireballs instead, but it doesn't hurt you enough to be a bother. Here is his new attack: 1. Darius will laugh and power up, then release two fire dragons who fly like a DNA string. Simply stand where they don't connect and you will be fine. Might take some practice to find this spot, but after you do, he won't be able to hurt you with it. Just fight him like you fought him the first time, and he'll die very fast. Disappointed with the ending? Good, read the walkthrough to understand how to unlock the rest! ----------- *********** 12. Paranoia Description: A foul fiend that nests inside mirrors. Seal: Level 4 Soul: (Bullet Soul) Gain the ability to enter mirrors. *********** If you're low level or have bad equipment, Paranoia can be a real pain. You will first fight a small kid version of him. It has a very low amount of hp and weak attacks, but don't underestimate it. It's sole purpose is to hurt you before the real deal, so finish it quickly. It will try to stab you, so backdash and jump over it. If it goes into the mirror, use the same tactic as for the real Paranoia below. After the small version, you will meet the real Paranoia, a MUCH bigger version. The real paranoia will float high in the air instead of just above the ground. He will also hurt a lot more if you're hit. Here are the attacks: 1. Paranoia will exit the mirror and float over the room. Jump and hit him. After a while, he will hover directly above you, getting ready to strike. In this phase, keep moving, or he will land upon you. When he finaly decides to strike, you will be running out from underneath him. You now have a perfect chance to attack him since he can not move until he has gotte up into the air again. 2. Paranoia will enter the mirror. This is his real attack, and it's very dangerous. First of all, be sure you have the Bat Company soul equipped. Watch how the small mirrors turn, and as soon as paranoia's hand is shown, jump to a place where the laser won't hit and turn into a bat. It can sometimes be very hard to predict the laser, all you can know is that it will end in the spot you were when the hand came out of the mirror, but a general rule of thumb is to stay away from the middle. He will do this attack twice each time, so after the first shot, move, because the second attack WILL hit you if you stay in the same place. He can take quite a bit of damage, so have potions ready. ----------- *********** 13. Aguni Description: A being that is the embodiment of fire. Seal: Level 4 Soul: (Bullet Soul) Create a pillar of fire that races across the ground. *********** Time to fight Dario II the correct way. Enter the mirror right away and you will stand face to face with the powerful fire demon, Aguni. Unlike Darius II, Aguni is actually a challenge. He has tons of HP and his attacks really hurt. Fortunately, they are easy to dodge once you learn how. 1. Probably the move he uses the most. He flies off the screen. When he does, get ready to run. As soon as you see him come down, run! When he hits the ground, jump over the big flames. After you have landed, jump up close to his hands and use the medusa head soul to stay in the air. From this position, hammer on the attack button. 2. He will fly across the room, from right to left or left to right. He will make a sound before he does, so it's not hard to see it coming. When it does, simply crouch and the attack will miss you completely. If you have a weapon which swings overhead, like a great sword or axe, strike when he flies over you. 3. He will fly over you, trying to smack you with his hands. It's similar to Paranoia's normal attack, except it's faster and he does it 3 times in a row, but it's dodged just the same: By running without stopping, or simply sit down and slide when the hand comes down. 4. This is the attack where you will hurt him the most. he lifts his hand a bit and spits lightning at the floor, creating fire waves. As soon as he starts, use medusa head soul to get close to his hand and hit his hands. As long as you can stay in the air, he has no way to hurt you, and the attack takes a while, so you'll be able to get a lot of hits in. Don't let him hit you and use his weakness to hurt him, he is much easier than Paranoia once you get used to him. ----------- *********** 14. Death Description: Dracula's confidant. Seal: Level 5 Soul: (Guardian Soul) Summon the Grim Reaper's scythe to attack enemies. *********** The Grim Reaper, a classic boss. Unless playing on hard, he's not that difficult, but you have to concentrate. He has two modes, each with different attacks. Once you kick the crap out of his first mode, you get to fight his second real form. The basic strategy is to dodge his attacks and smack him whenever you have the chance to, but I will tell you some openings in some of his attacks which are useful if you want to beat him quicker. Here's the first mode attacks: 1. He throws his scythe towards you, once it has travelled a while, it will explode into a growing ring of mini scythes. Simply run away from the scythe, then destroy the small ones with your weapon. After this attack, he will not have his scythe until he summons it. 2. If he doesn't have his scythe, he has the ability to call upon 3 shadow clones to attack you. You will see some purple stars around him before he does it, so get ready. He will summon the clones above you, and just like Zephyrs knife rain attack, simply walk out of the way and keep attacking Death, the clones strike is easily evaded. 3. If he DOES have his scythe, he can attack you with it. It's pretty simple, he will fly towards you with his scythe raised. If you simply run away from him, his first attack will miss. After the first one, crouch and the second one will miss. This is a great opening. After his first attack, crouch and turn around and smack him, he won't be able to get away. After some damage, he will turn into his real form. Here are the new attacks: 1. Again, he can throw his scythe, but this time, the scythe will fly in a circular motion while small scythes appear around you. These small scythes can also be destroyed with your weapon, they are homing however, so be careful. To dodge the big scythe, run far away from him. A better tactic is to use Final Guards soul, if you have it. 2. This form can also attack you with the scythe, and even if the attack looks more advanced, it's easier to dodge. He will start by teleporting. As soon as he disappears, crouch. When he has striked above you, jump. If you don't he will follow up with a lower strike. This one is almost easier than the first one to counter. Crouch, when you see him, turn towards him and attack him once, then jump. 3. His most powerful and dangerous attack. He will shoot 4 blue balls to each side (can be more of less than 4, but on normal, 4 is average.) and when he does this, be ready! Check where the first ball went, and start running in the OP |
