Intro*********************************************S1********************** Welcome to another FAQ of mine - the DSi Sound FAQ. this guide will show you how to use the DSi Sound app. Enjoy. (Man, I need something different to say!) 2. Obtaining App*********************************************S2************** Well, actually, it is already pre-installed on both the DSi and DSi XL. 3. Accessing App*********************************************S3************** From the DSi Menu, tap the icon with the parakeet and music note on it. 4. Recording*********************************************S4****************** At the menu, tap "Record and edit a sound." Now, tap a blank speech bubble (it will have --- in it). A screen comes up that say "Start recording." It will appear to have a Japanese flag on it, with the word "Quit" at the bottom. The Mic is voice-activated, so speak loud enough for it to pick up your sound waves, or the sound waves of whatever you what to record. Alternately, press the red dot to start. You have 10.00 SECONDS (not minutes, seconds) to record whatever you want, so it is preferable to use the voice-activated function. After it starts recording, either do the full ten seconds or tap the gray square to stop recording. At this point, listen to what the recording might sound like on the DSi. Then tap a colored square at the bottom (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple) to help identify it. The bubble will be more full/empty depending on how long the recording was. Example: A full 10 second recording bubble will be almost full, while a 0.1 second recording bubble will be almost empty. 5. Editing*********************************************S5******************** I- Pitch & Speed **S51** Tap one the colored bubbles - one with a recording in it. You'll see two icons - a cross with a square, and a set of four squares. For this, tap the one with the cross. You'll see a diagram similar to this: /|\ | | | |\ | |\ |\ | > ================================[_]============================= | > | > |/ | |/ |/ | | | \|/ Right where the [_] is where the pitch/speed is started out on. Use the D-Pad or stylus to move it around. Moving it up makes the pitch higher. Moving it down makes the pitch lower. Moving it to the right speeds the recording and shortens the time to as little as HALF the time it originally would take. Moving it left slows down the recording and lengthens it so it may become TWICE as long as the original. There are four interesting extremes - the corners. The upper-left slows ot down while making it high-piched. The upper-right makes it fast and high-pitches. The lower-left makes it slow and low-pitched. The lower-right makes it fast and low-pitched. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ II- Filtering **S52** Tap one the colored bubbles - one with a recording in it. You'll see two icons - a cross with a square, and a set of four squares. For this, tap the one with the squares. You'll see four pictures representing four filters. Tap one to put the recording through said filter. At the start, there are four filters: Parakeet, Electric Fan, Low Harmony, and Trumpet. However, repeating tapping of the same filter reveals more filters. _________________________________________________________________________ / Zero (0) Taps | One (1) Tap | Two (2) Taps | Three (3) Taps \ |-------------------|----------------|-----------------|--------------------| | Parakeet | Robot | Helium | Parakeet | |-------------------|----------------|-----------------|--------------------| | Electric Fan | Tunnel | Transceiver | Electric Fan | |-------------------|----------------|-----------------|--------------------| | Low Harmony | High Harmony | Synth Harmony | Low Harmony | |-------------------|----------------|-----------------|--------------------| | Trumpet | Whistle | Buzzer | Trumpet | \__________________|________________|_________________|___________________/ Essentially, two more filters are hiding behind any filter at any given time. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ III- Other Stuff **S53** There are some more things you can do. In both menus, you'll see a music note (barred eighth note) and the loop after it. (This is in the lower-right). Tap it make it a folder and loop, which goes through all recording sounds in order. Tap it again to make it look like --> | which makes the selected recording play just one time. Tap it once more to make it look like --> ? --> ? which plays the recordings in a random order. One final tap will make it become an A-B loop. This allows you to leave out parts of the recording. At the bottom-middle, you will see a left-pointing triangle and a pause symbol. Tap the triangle to start playing the recording backwards. You can tap the right-pointing triangle to play it forwards. Tap the pause to stop playing the recording. Tap one of the triangles to start playing it backwards/forwards. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ IV- Finishing Up **S54** Whenever you're done editing, tap the "Overwrite" button in the lower-right corner. This will completely overwrite the file. However, say that you turned the pitch higher. You want it back down to the original. Well, go back to the pitch/speed thing and set the icon in the middle. That means that any "accidental" overwrites can very much be fixed. FYI, an edited file is marked with a square-ish bubble, rather than a round one. 6. Deleting*********************************************S6******************* At the screen where you select recordings, tap the one you wish to delete one time. Next, tap the "Delete" button in the lower-left corner. You'll be asked to confirm your decision. Select "Yes" and the sound file is deleted. 7. SD Card Usage*********************************************S7************** *unknown* I haven't gotten one yet. If you'd like to let me know, e-mail me at SKYDRIFTERS@aol.com 8. Settings*********************************************S8******************* From the main menu, tap "Settings" in the lower-left corner. Headphones (Stereo/Mono) - Select whether to listen to music on headphones in stereo (two speakers) or mono (one speaker). Tap Sound (Off/On) - Has something to do with the SD Cards... Backlight (Always On/Auto Off) - ??? Delete DSi Sound Data - Delete ALL saved recordings. 9. Credits*********************************************S9******************** You: For reading this FAQ and maybe finding it useful. The sites that accepted this: For realizing that it may be useful. 10. Version History*********************************************S10********** Final - Done in several hours. 5/1/2010 11.
