Yeh! What did I said about getting a PSP? Well, I just did 9 days ago it's been a lot of fun, and am already in the process of making another FAQ for that system on "Wild Arms XF" another outstanding SRPG. Don't worry I've priorities and this FAQ (FFTA 2) happened to be at the top my "to-finish-list." • (20/09/2008) Updated the FAQ: • "The Bazaar" section updated, added a couple more stuff • Added 2 Side Missions: 40 and 41 • Going to add Story Mission 14: "Seeking The Stone" soon • Refromatted the "Laws" section • (19/09/2008) Been going on a crazy "two-days" update phase lately, did a lot of changes to this guide, you mostly won't notice at a glance but it is there. The changes made are small but significant in the grand scheme of things. • Added new story mission: "Making Music" • Updated "The Bazaar" section • Edited alot of the strategies in this guide (improvement) • Rewritten a whole lot of other things as well • Removed and updated a couple of things throughout this FAQ Slowly, but surely this FAQ will be completed in no time. -OH NO DON'T TALK SHIT!--------------------------------------------------- Anyway, just wanna talk a bit. I've completed "Crisis Core: FF7" the game at times may feel repetitive but I played it for the storyline, and I am so slightly affected by the ending, oh boy! It was THAT good I tell you. Not many games have that kind of emotional impact on me, ;') this is why I love RPGs, and because of Crisis Core I'm gonna dish out the cash for a PSP!...no, I am not a fanboy, thank you, and the PSP I played CC on wasn't mine, it belonged to my super-crazy stingy nephew I hope his battery dies, and his PSP screen cracks or something. I'm evil and vile, I know! Ok, does anyone knows of any good-to-decent RPGs for the PSP? I already have the following on my to-buy-list: • Yggdra Union • Breath Of Fire III • Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII • Final Fantasy Tactics: War Of The Lions • Jeanne D'Arc • Riviera: The Promised Land • Valkyrie Profile • Wild Arms XF • Castlevania Chronicles X • Metal Gear Solid Ops Anymore, anymore?! E-mail me, thanks! --------------------------------------------END OF OH NO DON'T TALK SHIT!- • (17/09/2008) 7 in the morning and I can't sleep, but I feel tired somehow? Anyway I've added one more story mission to the guide "Sleepless Nights" yeah, I've been having sleepless nights lately... Weird, weird. • (15/09/2008) Updated the guide till "Rumors Abound" and added 2 more Side Missions, cut down on a lot of crap from this FAQ, hoping to do a lot more. 50 missions completed altogether I know it's very slow, but I always tend to take my time, no point rushing and submit a half-assed FAQ. Not my style! • (14/09/2008) Rewritten quite a lot of the guide. I'm supposed to add something else but I've geuninely fogotten what, my, am I getting old? • (12/09/2008) This FAQ is amazingly going through another makeover, a "graphic" overhaul if you will. I'm cutting down on many unnecessary "stuffs" and rewriting a whole lot of other things. Right now, I've quite a few of FAQs on my hand to complete. I asked for it, for wanting to make so many at the same time. But FFTA 2 is my topmost priority. Previous updates and history have been removed. There's a lot of changes, if I were to write them down here it'd never end. So, until then. Keep checking back. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E S E A R C H F U N C T I O N: I've implemented a "search function" in this FAQ, it's a keyword found at every end, example: "Characters.........[CH!]" this way you won't have too many problems finding your desired section instantly. 1. In Windows Notepad: Ctrl + F. 2. Type in [CH!] or just CH!. 3. Maybe there is something that you do not know of? For any further clarifications though, you may want to refer to the game booklet. ########################## GRIMOIRE OF THE RIFT [GS!] ########################## LUSO CLEMENS IS NOT THE BEST STUDENT IN HIS CLASS!... Yep! Luso isn't exactly the brightest in class (I assumed he's stupid or something?) and is always late for Mr. Blaire's class. Just when Luso was about to step out of the room Mr. Blaire stopped him and asked: "How many times have you reported late for my class?..." apparently it's more than his fingers could count. As punishment Luso was sent to the school's library to do some cleaning up after a whole lot of grumbling Luso decided to just go ahead and do it. Over at the library is where Luso... Or more precisely your adventure begins. If you've played the original FFTA then we can all safely assumed the Grimoire must have been Mewt's all along... That teddy bear by the counter brings a lot of nostalgic memories... Ahhh! I wonder what Marche and the others are doing now?... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################# CHARACTERS DESCRIPTIONS [CH!] ############################# An introduction to the people who you will meet along the way... Most of them will stay, some play hard-to-get while others forces themselves into your group. These are the characters that you will use 99% of the time. =========================================================================== LUSO, THE NOT SO BRIGHT STUDENT =========================================================================== A lucky, or rather unlucky student who stumbled upon an old Grimoire in his school library, perhaps the adventures he will have in the new world will teach him a few things he will never ever learn in school. Luso is rash and fearless, above all he's a caring soldier who look out for his comrades. =========================================================================== CID, LEADER OF CLAN GULLY =========================================================================== The very man who saved Luso from the impending doom that is Klesta, Cid is not exactly a greenhorn when it comes to the battlefield, experienced fighter with a shady past. =========================================================================== ADELLE, THE THIEF =========================================================================== A young female thief, very sly, very cunning, but under that "hideous vi- sage" lies a beautiful lady with an even more beautiful heart. Adelle is often mistaken to be a thoughtless, greedy thief... Well, everyone has their own share of misunderstandings every now and then, right? =========================================================================== HURDY, THE TRAVELING BARD =========================================================================== Promises Luso he will compose a song about his time in Ivalice, the Moogle joined your group in the hope that he could be richly inspired by Clan Gully's adventurous trip around Ivalice. And well, the Moogle got what he wanted in the end. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ######################### THE DIFFERENT RACES [RA!] ######################### Seven different races occupies the world of Ivalice... =========================================================================== HUME =========================================================================== Being the most versatile out of the seven races, humes will be one of your most used race in the game. Parivirs are powerful warriors and Ninjas are cool with their Dual-Wield Passive Ability. There sure are many ways to customize your hume character. =========================================================================== BANGAA =========================================================================== Fierce lizardmen that loves the frontline placing them in the backseat is doing them a huge injustice. As they're more battle-oriented they aren't really suited for dishing out magicks, though they have one magick-based class which is the "Bishop." =========================================================================== NU MOU =========================================================================== Despite what you may have think, the Nu Mous are not dog descendant, they are pretty apt in the magick department, this is further proven by the fact that majority (if not all) of their jobs are magick-based. Nu Mous are ideal for creating a magickal character. If you love magicks like me, then you can go wild with the Nu Mous there's so many magicks to be had & customized. =========================================================================== VIERA =========================================================================== Mostly of a female race, the Vieras are elegant, swift and quick with their hands and feet. Besides the Nu Mous, Vieras fare pretty well in the magick department. Elementalist and Summoner are two of the best classes in my humble opinion, Boulder Crush is cool if you want to immobilize your enemy and Summons hit for a wide range. =========================================================================== MOOGLE =========================================================================== Moogles doesn't perform all that well on the battlefield, except maybe for Moogle Knight who are powerful warriors. They're more well-known for their ranged-oriented classes, such as the Fusilier and the new Flintlock. While they're proficient mechanics, Tinker is probably one of the worst class to ever exist in Ivalice, but others may see this class as a diamond in the rogue but all in all, as they say: "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." =========================================================================== GRIA =========================================================================== Winged beauties, don't be fool by their demure look as Grias are pretty powerful themselves, Raptor and Ravager will be your two most favorite classes to use in the game. Geomancer relies heavily on terrain and the weather making them hard to use. Hunters are cool slightly better than their humes counterpart in terms of stats. =========================================================================== SEEQ =========================================================================== Just because they're pigs they are by no means "fat and lazy," Lanista is the equivalent of a Dark Knight, while Berserker is the only offensive class that is available to the Seeq. Not too fond of Survivalist & Viking. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ################ WHAT'S NEW [WN!] ################ A list of new things that are found in the new FFTA 2, some are new, some were revised and others were slightly tweaked for the better. They are in no particular order. =========================================================================== RECRUITING =========================================================================== The days of random people asking to join your clan are over. Recruiting members into your party now requires you to "find" them. In other words by visiting certain area during certain time of the month will allow you to recruit a certain generic character. =========================================================================== FAMOUS LAST WORDS =========================================================================== Before they die they will mumble a couple of sentences, like "sorry for letting you down" and sad stuff like that, they should have said thanks when we revive them with Phoenix Down or mend their wounds with Cure! That would add a lot of kick, just like the game "Jeanne D'Arc!" =========================================================================== LAWS AND PRIVILEGES =========================================================================== Three things will happen if you go against the law: • Privilege negated. • Can't revive fallen party memebers. • No law bonuses at the end. =========================================================================== ENEMY DROPS ITEM & DISAPPEAR =========================================================================== • Enemy drops item when they fell • And then they disappear =========================================================================== TREASURES, TREASURES, TREASURES =========================================================================== Treasures are sometimes found on the battlefield, these are of course for you to take away, but be careful not all treasures are "safe." =========================================================================== EARN EXPERIENCE AT THE END AND NEW MVP FEATURE =========================================================================== • You earn experience at the end of the battle • Everyone get roughly the same amount + additional bonus points • Contribute the most in battle and you can be the MVP =========================================================================== BRAND NEW MP SYSTEM =========================================================================== Brand new MP system which I strongly believe was adapted from Tactics Ogre everyone in your clan will start with 0 MP but with each turn will gain 10 MP. I believe this is very fair, since when casting magicks there's no charging time unlike in the original FFT (PS1) version. So, they make you charge your MP instead. There are of course various way to counter =========================================================================== TRAPS EVERYWHERE =========================================================================== Now there are traps, so watch your step. =========================================================================== NEW & IMPROVED DISPATCH FEATURE =========================================================================== The dispatch feature for this installment is much more polished, in a sense it is more flexible... Er, it's kinda hard to explain, but Kenji did an awesome job, so I'm gonna quote him/her: "More than 1 player can be sent off to complete a quest. Also, u can dis- patch clan members for most quest you could do with main character (Except Main missions)." --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################ CONTROLS & NAVIGATIONS [CN!] ############################ Not all that complex... I personally like using the Stylus, but of course the D-Pad and buttons are more comfortable. NINTENDO DS LITE _______________________________________________________ | | | _________________________________ | | | | | | | O O | | | . . . | | . . . | | . . . | 1 | . . . | | | | | | | _________________ | | | | | | | |_________________________________| | | | |_______________________________________________________| (___________________________|________________________||_) | | | _________________________________ 4 | | _ | | | | _| |_ | _________________ | X | | |_ o _| | | Y A | | |_| | | B | | | 2 | | | | O O | 3 | | | | o START | | |_________________________________| o SELECT | | | |_______________________________________________________| ASCII Art by defunct32 Don't use the stylus if you think it sucks, ok?! Hahaha. =========================================================================== 1. TOP SCREEN =========================================================================== When out of battle this screen will display Luso's journal, as you progress through the story, the journal will slowly fill up. When you're doing missions (battle) this screen will then display the Unit Turn List, press either the L or R button to have a look-see who's coming up next. It's mostly accurate, but, buffs/debuffs plays a part; if a single unit is currently buffed with Haste then that particular unit turn will often come up! If slowed then you'll see less of that unit. =========================================================================== 2. TOUCH SCREEN =========================================================================== Where all the actions take place! Feel free to use the stylus, but I suggest you stick with the D-Pad and buttons. =========================================================================== 3. START & SELECT =========================================================================== None! =========================================================================== 4. X, Y, B, A =========================================================================== X, when on the World Map press X to access your unit and the menu. Y, press this for help whether in battle or in the menu. B, cancel. A, accept, yes, confirm, advance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ######################### BATTLE SYSTEM & ETC [BE!] ######################### I will explain a bit of the game battle system mechanic, though I have to warn you that I am no expert or pro in explaining all these stuff. You can refer to the booklet but eventually as you play more of the game, you will get the gist of everything. Nothing too complex to pick up. BASICS TO BATTLING ------------------ If you're an SRPG veteran then the grid system found in this game should be of no problem(s) to you. For newcomers, it may seem kind of confusing at first. But don't stress, I will try my best to explain... Let's imagine now: Have you ever played chest before? The grid works that way, but you don't move your unit the way chest does... =========================================================================== MOVING =========================================================================== When a unit's turn is up, choose "Move" from the command menu and panels of blue tiles will appear, this determines how far you can move within a turn. The higher your move stat the farther you can go. Accessories and current jobs will affect your move stat. =========================================================================== ATTACKING =========================================================================== To hurt your adversary, you will need to be standing adjacent to the sub- ject, choose "Action" then "Attack" from the menu. Jobs like Archer (Hume) and Sniper (Viera), etc does not require you to be standing next to the enemy, you can attack from afar. =========================================================================== PERFORMING SKILLS/MAGICKS OR USING ITEMS =========================================================================== Performing magicks or abilities works the same way as attacking, choose "Action" from the menu and pick the job's innate command. If you are a Black Mage then your command would be "Black Magick." If you so wish to use items then you will need to equip the command to your secondary slot. =========================================================================== 04. MAGICKS REQUIRES MP =========================================================================== As well as certain abilities and/or skills. In FFTA 2 you are not given the luxury of starting with full MP, everyone starts with 0 but with every turn each one will regenerate 10 MP. You can increase the amount with clan privileges or via the means of Passive abilities. • MP Channelling (Privilege) • Halve MP (P-Ability) =========================================================================== WAITING =========================================================================== Waiting allows a single unit to stand and do nothing, regenerate MP and even has his or her turn comes up a lot faster than usual. =========================================================================== FACING =========================================================================== Where you face will determine how much damage you will receive from your adversaries. If your back faces the enemy, then they will have a chance to strike you from behind resulting in high damage, now, you wouldn't want that to happen to you would you? • Always have your back facing the other way from the enemies • Use background/backdrop/obstacle to protect your back =========================================================================== MADE A MISTAKE? PRESS "B" =========================================================================== Moved to the wrong location? Just press B, you can do this as many times as you want. =========================================================================== SMASH GAUGE =========================================================================== .---------------------------- | Portrait Luso / / | / / |
