I stepped into the room. It looked as if though it were a hotel, it included a window of
the city. A beautiful view. The voice of the guide was heard behind me.
"Ok, here is your creator's room…" she stuttered and flipped through the papers of her
clipboard. "The ghost"
I responded humbly.
"Now this room is a single room in Hatena city, and it has a nice view to the outside…"
She paused a little bit, as darkness bloomed in her eyes. I detected something wrong.
"There is something wrong about the room, I'm presuming?" I questioned.
She finished in a quick hurry. "No, no there is nothing wrong with the room, uhh… have
a nice day, I'm sure that you will be a wonderful creator! Make animations, and have fun
in Flipnote Hatena!"
She left the room in a quick hurry, leaving the door open. She said all of that as if
though that is what she says to everyone else… I am sure it is nothing… I whispered to
myself. I took off my bags and placed it is a chair, as I stared at a surprisingly still
city, through the window.
Curious to know what animations I will see, I gracefully stepped out, and thinking of the
new journey will begin. What will be out there? What will inspire me? What many things
will I learn? Oh the suspense!
I took the first step, into the blinding sunlight. My eyes were closed tight, knowing
that the first look at Hatena city, will be one of the most cherished memories. My head
was down, my eyes, so starved on what it is craving, took a single peek at the side walk.
…? The sidewalk was not the well maintained concrete I had expected. Instead, the
concrete was in terrible condition. There were deep gashes, and missing chunks of
concrete that can be found lying randomly somewhere.
I yawed my head, to see that the buildings were not the great skyscrapers I had saw in the
window. There were badly tattered ruins, that are still barely standing. The missing
chunks of concrete exposed the rusty girder frame. Even some buildings were flinging
embers into the sky, as the charred remains of the building were still on fire. Was the
sky what I had expected? No, the sky was a polluted, smoky, and blocking out the mid
"It's… horrible…" I rasped. I rotated my head, as the streets were completely empty,
no cars, no people, no signs, just dust in the wind. The image I remembered in the window
was not what it is in reality. I rushed back into my creator's room, to the window that
lied. I realized… It is not a window. It is a large piece of paper that was taped up,
covering the window. I tore off the paper with fierce haste.
Exactly as I imagined, The same ruins are just as horrible as it is through the window.
I put my and hand on the window… or at least I tried, my hand went right through the
window, for there was no window at all. Only but the glassy remains of what used to be a
window on the frame.
I stood there, expressionless. Only focusing on the ruins of the city. Pondering… what
happened? Was the only thing on my mind… As the sun slowly set upon the terrible
wreckage, I only wanted to know who is responsible. I was not aware of any dangers, as I
left the building.
I was walking on the empty streets, wandering aimlessly into the void. The street signs
were illegible, and mostly painted with some writing that I could not understand, perhaps
the writer did not have the ability to write a clear message.
I froze in the clouded city, to heard a soft thud that filled the air with life. Or for
at least one second. I wasn't sure if I were happy or scared. Thousands of mixed
feelings filled my head. I finally had the decision to speak.
"H-- Hello? Is anyone there?"
I sensed a figure behind me, rise from the shadows from the alley way. He spoke.
"Yeah? What's it to ya?"
I immediately noticed he was not the friendliest one in this street, but supposedly he may
be the only person I may find in Flipnote Hatena. So I had to be on my guard, and ask him
what is going on.
"Flipnote Hatena, what is this? -- is it supposed to be like this?"
"I really don't care what happened here."
"Why? Its horrible here, Shouldn't it be like a great city, bustling wi--"
He grabbed my chest, and brought me to my knees, felling intimidated, I tried to break
free, but I couldn't. My veins froze as I gazed in terror, as his fists began to become
an incandescent red.
"Give me your stars," he said.
I grasped his arm in retaliation, and threw it to the side, releasing my chest. I was a
bit off balance, as I stood in a frenzy. There, I knew it was the perfect time to strike,
so my mussels in my knew, flew into his face. Knocking him back for a few seconds. I
felt empowered, I knew that he deserved a final blow. I approached him in a threatening
glare, as he was holding his bruise, as a trickle of blood ran down his mouth. But then I
noticed that his fist was clenching a flame. He had powers that I cannot even fathom.
Knowing that a retaliation from him would finish me, I dashed into the city, until I was
in at a point were I was lost.
Outcast, alone, lost, in a dark sinister world. One of the only thing I pondered, was…
stars… It seemed like his only goal was to get these stars… Are stars the only thing
that have driven this city to what it has come to? Or not the city… the inhabitants…
The city was no longer a home, it is more hostile than I could ever imagine. Not even my
creator's room was even safe. Knowing that the sun will set soon, I had to find shelter
somewhere, not the city. I gazed off into the distance, seeing as how Flipnote Hatena is
not only a city. But all I can see is just haze, and the occasional embers from the
smoldering ruins of what used to be a sprawling city. That is, if there was ever one.
But there was an ominous figure, off into the distance. It appeared… as if though… it
were a mountain. The only refuge from the chaos, the ray of light to a rainy day… a
home? I left to find out…
I reached a point at the end of Hatena city. I did see a sign that read "Now leav--
Hatena c--" The words were covered with the spray paint of "JB" that was crossed out.
The mountains slowly became clearer, as scarred trees come within visual contact.
I scaled the mountain, hoping to fate that it will be at least a cave, under a tree trunk
is a place that I can call home.
The peak was within sight, suddenly, my heart warmed to the sight of a few rocks in the
position as if though it were a cave, just along the side of the horizon. Finally, a
place to rest a wayward refugee.
I peered into the cave, I noticed that is was not a bundle of rocks, and some burnt twigs,
but it was a smoother stone floor, that was aggregated with some glittering dust. Some
smooth stones were what I can think of as walls, a floor… a home.
I rested upon some moss that was on the side, soft, yet very comfortable. It seems as if
though fate brought me here. My shelter was finally in place. I ventured out of the cave
for a bit, to see the sun set upon the city…
It was so gloomy, that not even words can explain. Standing expressionless, I could on
think what my future will bring me to. However, there was a small lake, were I may use a
natural resource, with a small creek with sounds that may soothe my frayed nerves.
I rest upon the moss bed, with a new, bright morning… as something to fear.
I awoke into a dim sunshine with a red tinge to the light. An iridescent glow filled the
cave, it was surprisingly well kept, as if though there were past residents to the area.
I took a step out of the cave, to see the same ruinous city in a hazy smog.
Remembering the small pool of what I heard last night, I ventured a little into the
downhill area away from the city. The dense fog that covered the city, began to clear, as
the scarred trees around me, were now the still standing trees, that has sustained little
damage. The calming sound of water began to become closer as I trudged into the woods.
At last, a reflection glint of the pool, warmed my heart to see the new obtained recourse.
It was surprisingly clear, As most likely drinkable, due to the fact that it is in an
open system of flowing water. I stepped to the shallows of the nectar, and pooled my hand
as the sweet, clear water rushed into my hands, and shortly into my mouth.
I drank what I needed, I splashed some water into my face, and everywhere possible, in an
attempt to wash the soot, and dirt off of myself. Shutting my eyes, due to the treat of
contamination, I soon found myself wallowing in the sweet pool of water.
I finally stood, finished cleansing my fears from myself. I opened my eyes in
There was a small, unclear, incandescent, blue glow in the woods. Rich with curiosity, I
was drawn by it, but there was another strange force pulling me towards it… like
I approached it, and noticed that it was in the shape of a cross, and the intersection was
the source of the light. Soon, it was clear to me… It was a… sword… I felt humbled
by its presents, as it stood so still stuck in that stone.
The force that drew me towards it, forced my hand to grasp it in my reach. As I held it
in a firm grip, I slowly began pull it. The eerie glow, was now a blinding light, although
it refused to budge. No matter how bright it shone, I concentrated on it, The mysterious
force, was now even stronger. I could feel an odd electrical charge in my brain, as power
surged through my veins. I utilized this power, to aid me in pulling the sword from the
stone. And then a sudden flash was so powerful, that I had to flinch. Before I knew it,
the sword was free, and the blinding light was dimming down.
I felt reborn. All of my fears, and opposing forces now seemed weak. I could feel my
heard pounding my whole body, screaming of the new gift… of pure power.
My new powers were settling within myself. I felt ready to use it, and…
Suddenly a voice began to speak. "The ghost…"
"Who-- Who's there? How do you know my name?"
"Fear not. You have been granted the power of a legend. This sword has been hidden in
the forest by… The Darkness."
"Is… that what… happened to--"
"Indeed, you see… Hatena used to be a bustling world. Full of life, activity, and were
creators peacefully shared animations with each other… But… that is when The Darkness
"Who are they?"
"The one that you encountered was one of the minions. There nothing except star greedy
thieves. They only proceed in their ambition to rule Hatena… There mission was thought
to be successful… There was little resistance, and those still oppressed are scattered
across Hatena… and now… I must grant you your mission…"
"Me? I know nothing of this world!"
"Lest we not fear the complexity of this world. Your main worry is your mission, start…
the Hatena's Heroes…"
"Don't tell me that I have to--"
"Correct, gather the scattered resistance, and combat these forces."
I could think of nothing else to say. I felt shocked that a simple newcomer could be
given such a duty. The fate of the world was now in my hands… And controlling that
fate will not be easy…
"Now… there are many of the enemies that specialize in their star greed or something
else. Here are the most common ones: Stealers, Haters, Star beggars, and Scammers, some
of them may posses different powers and have unique capabilities, as well as their
personality. Sadly, this information messenger sprit must go… Good luck… The
I stared off into space. With various thoughts in my head. But now… my first
objective… was to make it back to Hatena city, and find them…
I ventured into through the charred fields of Hatena. There was charred rocks, and small
ruins of charred trees around me. This was a different route over to the city. The vast
flat plains were simply displeasing.
There was a sudden voice. "Hey noob," I turned. A dark figure rose behind the remnants
of a tree.
"You are a terrible person, and you *** so bad."
"I'm assuming that you are a hater?"
"£#@^ YOU MUTHER #$%#ER!"
He approached me, and threw a punch. Before it were to make contact, I grappled his fist,
pulled it over my head, and with enough strength, I flipped him from behind me. I
underestimated this power, I lifted someone equal to my weight with one hand. The power
within me was so strong, it felt like the supremacy was radiating from the sword.
I twirled the sword, and eviscerated his as he lied on the ground. His body disintegrated
into a form of dust, and faded in the air.
"I hope that is the only one here…" I said bluntly. As I finished that statement, I
noticed a piece of trash lying on the ground. I stepped up to it, And it had the words,
"Boss vs. 100%"
I realized what it was, It was a flipnote! I examined it a little closer, and it suddenly
began to play. As it did so, I could pay attention to very little of anything around me,
I could only hear the music that was recorded into the flipnote.
The flipnote began as a flat ground, as a very professionally made stick figure, fell from
the sky, landed on the ground, uninjured, as if though that were something that they
normally do. And the screen panned to another stick figure that was greatly drawn as
well, and he appeared hostile to the other one. He pulled out his hand from behind him,
and pointed at him, and in that instance, one of him supposed "minions" came out from the
screen, and jumped to the original one, with lightning speed. The stick figure appeared,
and defeated the minion easily. Then the other one, sent out around 20 of his minions at
The fight was amazing, And before I knew it, I was dazzled, It was an amazing flipnote.
I noticed a button behind to it that said add stars.
Could this be what stars are for? Is it supposed to be that you add stars to flipnotes
that entertain you? I assumed that SO quickly, I was ready to push that button, as many
times as I could.
Suddenly, I noticed that it has a small purple Icon at the bottom left corner of it.
There was something odd, It had a figure were it was a… spinoff? I looked at the back
of the flipnote. There was a list of options that I looked at.
One of those widgets… said "original flipnote…" Does that means that this flipnote is
not original, and it came from another flipnote? I tapped it, and then it brought me to
another flipnote. I watched that flipnote… It is exactly the same as the first one.
Does that mean that the first one is… stolen? I realized the new problem, one of those
thieves copied the original. I wanted to add stars to the original though, but I looked
at it again, and again, and again. It is a never ending chain of stealing! It's only a
matter of time until this flipnote is stolen as well, the chain is so long, that it seemed
that I could never find the original…
I seized the flipnote, and tossed it on the ground. As it lied on the filthy floor, I
stepped on it, and leaving it as a tattered part of the scorched land. I proceeded to the
city, aware of any thieves that may pop out… or anything else… I tried to remember
what the voice warned me about, "Thieves, scammers, haters", or… hmmm…. I couldn't
think of the rest for a moment, but it hit me that there were more than just them. Keep
your eyes peeled out for the evil. I realized that if I open my eyes to the evil, then I
may close my eyes to the good. So keep your eyes open, and listen to any commotion,
because a single resister of the evils… may be the crack of dawn to a never ending
winter night. And with enough help, it may rise into a sunny day… we will just have to
see what the future holds. I thought… as I only stood, to comprehend what my target is
at this moment.
I remembered the flipnote. The stick figures that I have seen, look similar to me. I
have never actually thought about it, but I am a stick figure, in fact, I have not really
seen anything else here. Maybe in time, I will find something else. But I thought back
to the subject of the stick figures, the way they fought, the had capabilities that
outclassed others. They had energy blasts, super high jumps, and more. Is it possible
that what I have seen, is something that I could do as well? Maybe, because that I am in
an empty field, I could maybe practice them here? Well, I'll start with… the energy
I saw that they stuck out their hands or their legs. So I tried to imitate myself
sticking my hands out as well. But what I didn't know, was how to trigger the blast…
I concentrated, as if though the my blood were controlled by my mind. Suddenly, I could
feel energy come rushing madly through my hands. I quickly pointed my hand in the air,
and in a split second, a concentrated wave of blue energy came flying out of my hand. And
it seemed to travel at light speed, as it dissipated into the clouds of smog above.
I also saw another notable maneuver that I had to try next. The high jump. I could
assume that normal jumps and high jumps are different, most likely due to my powers.
First, I tried a standard jump, with no energy. Hmm… fairly high, about 2-4 feet. It
was a bit different than what I normally did. Now… the high jump.
I stood in position, with my legs bent out, ready to rocket into the sky. I concentrated
the energy that I used in the energy blast. It felt as if it was surging through my
blood, like boiling hot water. Now… to release it…
BOOM! The second I launched, all of the soot and dust collided into my eyes, forcing me
to close them. In that process, I was in a state were the air didn't respond fast enough,
were it got cold, so very very cold, followed by was a large explosion, as if though I
made a sonic boom. The Earth collapsed below me, and all of my weight that was pushing on
my feet were instantly eliminated. The G forces were forcing my innards to fall back, but
my powers were keeping me intact.
I slowly came to a small pause in the air. I finally looked down below me, for the
surrounding rubble in my face and in the air, no longer rest in its place… oh… god...
It felt as if I were higher in the air than anything could ever be, I felt as if though I
were in the stratosphere! I looked down on the Earth with an excited feel… but the rush
suddenly disappeared. The smoggy billows obstructed the view of the ground. I could
point out a few hazy ruins that were the size of single points, so very, very disturbing.
Wait… I began to fall. OH no! The air slipping past my hair was a horrible experience,
knowing that I would fall to the ground to my death. A last thought rang through my head,
like a crazed city bell. I had to land correctly, like the stick figures did in the
flipnote. So in midair, I turned to my feet, as I already felt the painkillers flowing
into my blood, bracing it for a rough landing. The heat of the whole atmosphere felt as
if though flames could burst from my feet… SLAM. The Earth made one of the most
strongest fissures it has known… or at least…
I noticed I was on the ground, strangely, I didn't feel any pain, in fact I barely felt
I opened my eyes, surprised to see that I was standing nimbly on the shattered concrete
floor. The blow that I had expected was relatively painless, considering the fact that
painkillers were still rushing through my frayed nerves. These new powers gave me
strength that I have not even comprehended. From the bent stable crouch, I arose into a
combat stance. willing to tackle any challenge possible.
I peered into the ruins again. I thought to myself. "Man, I cannot even remember when
this place was peaceful…" But then, a small piece of paper glided extravagantly though
a sudden gust of wind. Hitting me in the face. I took it off impatiently, and examined
It was "Clash of the titans" And it had that same spinoff notice at the bottom. I
thought to myself. "Another stolen flipnote…" I tossed it aside, and took one
Suddenly, another sudden gust carried many stolen flipnotes, and they clustered into one
spot in the air. "That is odd" I thought… A brilliant flash lighted the hazy city,
pushing my back a little bit. As the flash receded, there was a hovering stick figure.
He had the word "stolen" tattooed into his head, etched in red. I had a distant thought
that that was the chief of stolen flipnotes. I took one remark, and taunted him with it.
"What are you going to do? Annoy me?" I said dryly with a small chuckle in my throat.
He cupped his hands toward me, and shot out stolen flipnotes, weakening, and dazing me.
Powerful enough to drive some of the flipnotes into the ground. And at my point of
weakness, the flipnotes were lifted, forcing me into the air. With more flipnotes, he
formed some of the flipnotes into a fist, which a strong blow shot me into to air.
I was gliding through the air, as I collided in the fiery ruins of a building. Glad that
I was not impaled on the loose rebar. Pain surged through my body, as I fell to the
ground, as the burn marks of bent rebar imbedded a burnt gash on my back. I stood
quickly, enduring the grueling pain. I couldn't fight this battle, I had to flee. I felt
conquered, as I heard a deep laugh in the light as I darted into a sinister alleyway.
I came into an opening were there were many others of the similar figures on the a city
plaza. they were not floating, like the first one, I also noticed that the tattoos on
their foreheads' were on white, and not in red. They were socializing very little, and I
couldn't hear what they were saying, if they said much at all. I approached one, with
They all stopped their business, an glared at me, as a fiery red rage flared into their
eyes. Many of them looked as if they were prepping for battle, cracking their knuckles,
and approaching me with fist claiming fire. A deep, ruby fire… One of them spoke, in a
normal, and not deep voice.
"You got any stars?"
"Well, why not give some to me?"
"Why would I?"
"Because you are a nice person, and I need some stars?"
"What makes you think I am a nice person? And did you work do deserve any stars, if I'm
not too rude to ask?"
"Ha! All this "If you deserve stars" is a bunch of baloney."
"I fail to see your logic" I suddenly came up with a nifty little quote. "The only thing
better than stars, are stars that you EARNED." (I thought with a little "The ghost,
"Enough, get him!"
One of them immediately jumped at me, I drew my sword, and sliced him cleanly, as he
disintegrated into dust like the hater. As he blew into the shallow winds, I noticed a
fireball approaching me. I pulled the sword in front of me. This blocked the fireball,
stopping it in its direct path. I felt the heat of the fireball flare up in front of me,
as I pulled the back to approach another one of those thieves.
The battle lasted for around 3 minutes, slicing through every single one of them with
ease. I barely was damaged by every one of them. There were occasional chances were I
had to use an energy blast, and a jump. I knew that there were other maneuvers out there,
but they were the only ones needed. Before I knew it, the battle was over.
I stood in valiance, I felt as I concurred these enemies with such ease. I crouched a bit
to examine the remnants, of some bodies still intact, but still deteriorating at a slow
rate. There was something a bit different about them, something a bit more odd then the
first one I encountered. The first one had a "stolen" tattoo that was red, but these ones
are white. I came up with a small theory that these are minions of the commander. It all
came too me then, maybe with less minions--
Unexpectedly, there was a disturbance in the air, an odd abrupt shockwave was felt. My
head fuzzed out of commission for a single second, and I regained full attentiveness
shortly after. Curious to know what happened, I speculated to find the epicenter of the
fissure. I began to amble through the empty, ruinous streets of Flipnote Hatena.
I began to pass through the corner, when I heard a medium/high pitched voice. I noticed
it wasn't similar to any of the other trouble makers here. Could this be a new member to
the assembly ? The newest member to the resistance? I had to find out, but I couldn't
approach him looking ecstatic, so I put on a confident face, and turned the corner.
He was a stick figure, just like me. His head was a bit lighter than the others, just
like mine. He had dirty blond hair, and supposedly, he possessed the same powers that all
stick fighters had. I figured this because in his hand he held a ball of energy, blue
energy, was emitting from his cupped hand. As he towered over a defeated enemy, that I
couldn't distinguish. He spoke, as he had his back turned to me.
"But I am not alone." He slowly began to turn around, and faced my direction. "There are
others like me." His face was not quite yet towards me, when I spoke.
"Wh-- Who are you?"
"I'm The ghost, you can just call me 'Ghost', and you are…?"
"Carter, I do have a star after my name, but you can just call me Carter."
"What have you done here?"
"I killed the chief of stolen flipnotes!"
"You mean you defeated him all by yourself?!"
"Yeah, he had it coming to him"
Still taken aback at what he said, I approached the still deteriorating body, that was
lying on the ground. I noticed that his "stolen" tattoo was white, and not red. I knew
instantly that that wasn't him. I spoke.
"This isn't him."
He shot a puzzled look at me. I then said…
"The first one I encountered was too powerful, he had thousands of stolen flipnotes to
control at will. Since then, I have been fighting minions, like these. I can tell
because the chief had a red tattoo, the minions have white ones."
"Were going to need some help…"
Then… we just started chatting… I then
