The biggest difficulty I came across was making money and building my equipment properly. After scouring the Internet for information covering Izuna, I found nothing that provided the information; not even an item cost list! So I began my quest to uncover the mystery of items in Izuna, enlisting my friend NF along the way, who was also playing Izuna. His role in the guide isn't to be underestimated; without his help we wouldn't have been able to advance our understanding of the game as quickly as we did. In fact I doubt I would have been able to figure out the formulae at all without him. Something to keep in mind while reading this FAQ is that it's designed for the player who already has a little experience with Izuna. This means that we won't be covering what a talisman does, the special effect of a weapon or arm, etc. Other guides already answer those questions adequately, and we don't seek to make a general guide to the game. With that in mind, you should know whether or not you're ready to read this file. A lot of effort and testing has went into gathering the data and discovering the formulae outlined in this guide. This includes over 30 hours of item gathering and number crunching, so we (and other gamers) don't have to play through this game without a clue! We hope you enjoy the guide and find the information here valuable. Thanks for reading. ~Daniel ii. Revision History [RHIST] ==================== 1.1 - 2010-01-12 ---------------- I finally beat the game! The game was nice and gave us an Asura Blade and Quandary Claw to get information for. I found out that durability has no bearing on how much a piece of equipment is worth and confirmed that claws have 1000 durability. Unfortunately, we discovered through some burn-ins that our formula for burning in isn't as accurate as we originally thought. From what we can tell, some parts of it are random. After some testing, we found that the maximum influence of the random number is 4 points. We cannot empiracally prove this without literally 100 tests or more, but the trends we found support the idea and every burn in we've done fits into the formula's limitations. 1.0 - 2010-01-07 ---------------- Initial draft of the guide. All we need to know at this point are the values for the Quandary, Falcon, and Ouryu Claws. Another question on the back burner is "Does equipment lose value if it's cracked or damaged?" The next version will answer that question and fill in the last of the data. I just need to beat the game... iii. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) [DAFAQ] ===================================== Q: Why didn't you flesh out the Kikan talisman's cost? A: Every Kikan in the entire game spawns at level 5. The only way you're going to get one of a different level is to use a Fukusei on it. Those range from the upper 80s to the upper 90s in level. Do _you_ want a Kikan that costs that much to stick or cast? Yeah, I thought not. - - - Q: Does the LUV or durability of a piece of equipment affect its price? A: No. This means that the awesome Shingan Blade you beefed to 100 LUV is not worth any more than it would be at 0 LUV. Sort of a bummer, eh? On the flip side, that Dragon Claw that you just saved from being cracked can still be sold for full price. - - - Q: What's the fastest way to make money? A: Run through your dungeon of choice, picking up everything you can. Focus on pieces of equipment, as they can be used to store expensive talismans, even if they go over their CAP! Since the cost of a talisman transfers to the worth of a piece of equipment, you can stick a bunch of talismans onto various blades, arms, and claws, and end up banking a lot more than you normally would. NF is awesome for figuring out this loophole. In less than 2-3 hours I had saved up around 3 million coins. I'm certain that someone more dedicated could amass money even faster. ******************************************************************************** A: Moneymaking [MOMNY] ******************************************************************************** Making money is one of the more important parts of the game. Without it, you can't do many of the things needed to improve and maintain your equipment. And in Izuna, your equipment is everything! ================================================================================ 1. Item Costs [ICOST] ================================================================================ No entrepreneur can succeed in his (or her) business endeavors unless they are aware of the economic climate. The following formulae and data tables will help you understand how to calculate the cost of an item. If you'd rather not do any math, you can still refer to the "Base Value" of each item and get a general idea of what's worth money and what isn't. If you're lazy, here's a quick outline of the top 5 sellers: ITEM | BASE VALUE ---------------+----------- Burn-In Flame | 250000 Shingan Blade | 150000 Susano-o Arm | 100000 Enma Arm | 75000 Zantetsu Blade | 75000 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TALISMANS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Talismans are one of the more reliable ways to get money in Izuna. They don't offer as much profit as equipment, but they're much more plentiful, so you can depend on them for steady, if small, income. ==================== = Static Talismans = ==================== These talismans do not change price, regardless of level. Name | Cost --------+---------- Fukusei | 1 Fuuma | 1 Kikan | 5000 Weapon* | 250000 Suitai | 1 * All weapon spirits created from burning in a Tsukumo are worth 250k. ==================== = Chance Talismans = ==================== Formula: Base Value - ( Talisman's Level * Talisman's Per-Level Value ) Name | Base Cost | Per Level ----------+-----------+----------- Ashikase | 54500 | 500 Gouka | 73000 | 500 Hayate | 102200 | 700 Jinrai | 54500 | 500 Kaishin | 10900 | 100 Kou'un | 73000 | 500 Mikiri | 10900 | 100 Reppu | 54500 | 500 Suimin | 54500 | 500 Ten'i | 54500 | 500 Tsukumo | 146000 | 1000 Yami-Uchi | 102200 | 700 However, over level 60... ========================= Using a Fukusei to get any of the below talismans over level 60 will cause them to use the following formula: Formula: Base Value + ( Talisman's Level * Talisman's Per-Level Value ) Name | Base Cost | Per Level ---------+-----------+----------- Ashikase | 25500 | 500 Jinrai | 25500 | 500 Kaishin | -900 | 100 Mikiri | -900 | 100 Reppu | 25500 | 500 Suimin | 25500 | 500 Ten'i | 25500 | 500 ================== = Stat Talismans = ================== Formula: Base Value + ( Talisman's Level * Talisman's Per-Level Value ) Name | Base Cost | Per Level ---------+-----------+----------- Fukugen | 22500 | 500 Mikagami | 4500 | 100 Rekka | 4500 | 100 Zoufuku | 22500 | 500 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EQUIPMENT -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Izuna, your equipment is everything! This includes making money, too; equipment is by far the best way to earn money if we're talking sheer profit. ========== = Blades = ========== Cost = Base Value + ( ATT * ATT Worth ) + ( CAP * CAP Worth ) Type | Base Value | ATT Worth | CAP Worth ---------+------------+-----------+----------- Asura | 100000 | 200 | 1000 Haja | 25000 | 50 | 250 Houshin | 50000 | 100 | 500 Musou | 40000 | 80 | 400 Shingan | 150000 | 300 | 1500 Zantetsu | 75000 | 150 | 750 ======== = Arms = ======== Cost = Base Value + ( DEF * DEF Worth ) + ( CAP * CAP Worth ) Type | Base Value | DEF Worth | CAP Worth -----------+------------+-----------+----------- Enma | 75000 | 150 | 750 Kagatsuchi | 10000 | 20 | 100 Izanagi | 25000 | 50 | 250 Izanami | 50000 | 100 | 500 Orochi | 10000 | 20 | 100 Susano-o | 100000 | 200 | 1000 ========= = Claws = ========= Cost = Base Value + ( ( ATT + DEF ) * AT/DF Worth ) + ( CAP * CAP Worth ) Name | ATT | DEF | CAP | Cost | Value Per Point ----------------+-----+-----+-----+----------+---------------- Type | Base Value | AT/DF Worth | CAP Worth ---------------+------------+-------------+----------- Baku | 15000 | 30 | 150 Cat | 10000 | 20 | 100 Demon | 25000 | 50 | 250 Dragon | 25000 | 50 | 250 Exorcism | 10000 | 20 | 100 Giant | 25000 | 50 | 250 Quandary | 35000 | 70 | 350 Steel | 10000 | 20 | 100 Sword Defender | 5000 | 10 | 50 Vampire | 25000 | 50 | 250 Weapon Breaker | 15000 | 30 | 150 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OTHER ITEMS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The miscellaneous items found in Izuna are generally cheap, aside from Caltrops, Bombs, and the two types of flames. You're better off avoiding or stockpiling the other items for future use. ================ = Thrown Items = ================ Name | Unit Cost ---------+----------- Shuriken | 250 Kunai | 1250 Caltrops | 1500 Bombs | 2500 ================= = Healing Items = ================= Name | Cost -------------------+-------- Light of Healing | 500 Light of Blessing | 1000 Light of Divinity | 5000 Likeness of Pochi | 500 Likeness of Mother | 1000 Panacea | 750 ================ = Effect Items = ================ Name | Cost ----------------+--------- Awakening Pill | 5000 Charge Pill | 5000 Fire Pill | 5000 Heavy Pill | 50000 Sleeping Pill | 5000 Picture of Hell | 50000 Purifying Flame | 50000 Burn-In Flame | 250000 ================================================================================ 2. Repairing Equipment [REPEQ] ================================================================================ Izuna's equipment tends to take a beating when she's out saving the village from chaos. It's important to know how to maintain your weaponry properly. After all, isn't saving money a part of making it? One thing to keep in mind is that all equipment has a maximum durability of 500. This has been determined by comparing the cost of a repair to the number of hits a piece of equipment endures. Claws are believed to have 1000 durability, since they take twice as much abuse as blades or arms. More testing is needed to confirm or deny this theory. FUKUGEN "USE" METHOD ==================== The first, and cheapest, method to repair your weapon is by using a Fukugen talisman. Like the rest of this guide, there's a formula to go with this procedure. Be mindful that you are selecting "Use" on this talisman! Repair Amount = Talisman Level * 5 So for example, a Fukugen(10) will replenish your equipment's durability by 50. Burning in a Fukugen seems to completely repair a piece of equipment. This isn't fully tested, but seems to be true. Despite this, it's usually better to just Use the Fukugen due to the expensive cost of burning in talismans through Nagasada's shop (outside of the mine). KATSUTAKE'S SHOP METHOD ======================= The only other way to repair your equipment is to talk to Katsutake, who is outside of Kagen's dungeon (the mine). Repairing tends to be expensive. The biggest factors in determining the cost of a repair are the base item being repaired (such as a Baku Claw or Izanagi Arm) and the talismans that are stuck to it. Here's the formula that determines price. Note that you'll need the information of your items from the "Item Costs" section to properly use this formula: Repair Cost = ( Value / 500 ) + (( Talismans / 500 ) * Expended Durability ) Value = The equipment's sale value (without talismans) Talismans = The combined sale price of all attached talismans Expended Durability = Hidden stat; 500 - remaining durability FINAL NOTE ========== Sometimes, you can cut down the price of your repair by peeling off the talismans at Nagasada's shop. However, this is generally only helpful when your equipment's base value is expensive and its durability is low. Here's the formula you can use to determine the cost of peeling off talismans: Peel-Off Cost = ( Value + Talismans ) / 2.5 Value = The equipment's sale value (without talismans) Talismans = The combined sale price of all attached talismans ================================================================================ 3. Increasing Equipment SP [INCSP] ================================================================================ The SP of your equipment is important to consider, since it's the only way to improve it. One such way to improve your SP is to go through Nagasada's shop. Each time you pay for his services, the item's SP will be increased by 10. The cost of increasing your equipment's SP is equal to what you would get from Azuki's shop in town. For this reason, if you plan on using this method to increase SP, it's best to remove all talismans from the equipment first. Doing it will save you hundreds of thousands of coins in the long run. There is another method to increase your SP which is _far_ faster, though it's more expensive. It's done by using Fukusei to create high level Zoufukus and burning them into your equipment. Since Zoufukus are so expensive at a high level, it's best to spend a Burn-In Flame. Otherwise, you're looking at astronomical prices. However, the gain is equal to the combined level of all your Zoufukus. ******************************************************************************** B. Equipment Building [EQBLD] ******************************************************************************** Building your equipment is one of the only ways to get ahead in Izuna. Straight up level grinding will grant you more raw damage per level, but it's also important to walk into a dungeon with good equipment. Most equipment spawns with rather underwhelming stats, even toward the end of the game. So how do you get good equipment? This section will help you. ================================================================================ 1. Things to Remember [DLRAM] ================================================================================ There are a few things to know before we continue: - The only talismans that have an effect when burned in are Rekka, Mikagami, Zoufuku, Tsukumo, and Fukugen. Period. - It's generally better to Stick a Zoufuku and burn in than use it. - It's better to stack multiple Rekkas or Mikagamis instead of burning one at a time. - Burning high level talismans into your equipment is really expensive; try to use a Burn-In Flame instead. Sure, they sell for 250k, but would you rather lose 250k or 1 mil? - The maximum SP a piece of equipment can have is 711. Don't ask me why; I have no clue. ================================================================================ 2. How to Build [H2BLD] ================================================================================ STEP ONE: Farm Fukusei. Building your items up is somewhat easy once you understand how to use each type of talisman. Before you start working with your items, you're going to need to farm some Fukusei talismans. You can find them in any dungeon after the Snake Hole, but I tend to have a lot of luck running the Wind Corridor or Zekuu Path a few times. They're good for Burn-In Flames, too! So... STEP TWO: Clone Zoufuku. You can't improve your item if you don't have the SP capacity, right? So go find a Zoufuku talisman. Doesn't matter what level it is. Next, go into a dungeon (preferably Wind Corridor or Snake Hole) and use every Fukusei you have on the Zoufuku. This will create high level clones of the Zoufuku, which is exactly what you want. STEP THREE: Stick Zoufukus to item. Before you leave the dungeon and jump for joy at your collection of awesome talismans, you need to Stick the Zoufuku onto your item. Zoufukus are interesting in that they take up a slot on your item, but don't add to the TSP (Total SP). Instead, they add their level value directly to the item's CAP. Again, that's just what you want. STEP FOUR: Burn in Zoufukus. This step can vary, depending on whether or not you have a Burn-In Flame. If you do, awesome! If not, well... you're gonna shell out a lot of money. I hope you're rich. Regardless, you need to burn the Zoufukus into your item. What this does is remove the Zoufukus, but leave the CAP of the item the way it was. This means that SP can be increased very quickly; you can hit 711 CAP in a single burn-in. STEP FIVE: Clone Rekkas and/or Mikagamis. I'm going to sound like I'm repeating myself. I sort of am. What you need to do next is gather more Fukusei and clone Rekkas and/or Mikagamis for your weapon. It's got a lot of SP and it's empty, right? Let's fill it up! STEP SIX (FINAL): Burn in Rekkas and/or Mikagamis. The final step! Without going over the CAP of your item, stick your high level Rekkas and/or Mikagamis into your item, then burn them in! Just be sure to leave one spare SP; you'll break your item otherwise. Once you've burned your talismans in, bask in the improved stats of your item! ================================================================================ 3. Burning In [BRNIN] ================================================================================ "How much do Mikagamis and Rekkas add to an item?" you ask? It's somewhat complicated, but I'll go over it with you. As mentioned before, more Rekkas and/or Mikagamis (referred to as boost talismans from here on out) equal more bonus points. So burning two Rekka(20)s is better than burning one Rekka(40), even though they both come to the same total. Why is that? The formula. NOTE: This formula is rather complicated, and is composed of multiple parts. If you don't want to read a bunch of math, skip this section. The main formula is: Boost Amount = Individual Values + Bonus + Random Number However, we must figure out each value individually before we can calculate the result. For each Rekka or Mikagami, you'll need to get its Individual Value, which is determined with the following: Individual Value = ceiling( ( Talisman Level - 5 ) / 10 ) If the result is zero (0) make it 1. For example, a Rekka(5) will return 1 because 5-5=0, and dividing that by 10 gives us zero. Because it's zero, we must make it 1. A Rekka(37), however, will return 4 since 37-5=32/10=3.2 and 3.2 will round up to 4. For those who are uninitiated, "ceiling()" means "round this number up, regardless". Bonus = ( # of Boost Talismans - 1 ) * 2 This one shouldn't need any explanation. As an example, 4 talismans is a bonus of 6: 4 - 1 = 3 * 2 = 6. Random Number = random( Min, 4 )* * Random Number tends to be between -2 and +2. Hardly ever will you see 3 or 4. Min = if 0 - Bonus < -4, Min = -4 This is the most complicated part. You need to discover Min by first knowing what Bonus from the previous formula is. Random Number can never subtract more than what Bonus is. So if your Bonus is 2, Random Number can never be -3, because that would be taking points away from the talismans. And now, a complete example: You have a Steel Claw with 20 Attack. You attach 3 Rekkas; level 10, 11, and 19. The combined worth is 1 + 1 + 2, so 4. Because we're using 3 talismans, we need to subtract one (which is 2) and double it to get 4. 4 + 4 is 8, and since Bonus is 4, the lowest Random Number can be is -4. Let's assume we get lucky and our random number is positive 1. Add that to the 8 we had before, and we get 9. So the Steel Claw now has 29 Attack! If you prefer formal math... Individual Values = 1 + 1 + 2 2 + 2 4 Bonus = ( 3 - 1 ) * 2 2 * 2 4 Random Number = random( -4, 4 ) Assume it gets +1 Individual Values + Bonus + Random Number 4 + 4 + 1 8 + 1 9 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Burn-In Cost -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nagasada offers a Burn-In service, which is pretty expensive. Sometimes you just don't have the patience to go look for a Burn-In Flame, or have a bunch of money lying around with nothing better to do, so you pay him to get the job done. However, there's a catch. Remember how much it costs to have the SP increased by him? It's equal to the value of your item AND the talismans that are on it. Yeah, well, burning talismans in is double that. Burn-In Cost = 2 * ( Item Value + Talisman Value ) As you can guess, burning in talismans is almost always more expensive than using a Burn-In Flame and missing out on 250k. ******************************************************************************** C. General Tips [GTIPS] ******************************************************************************** In this section is a collection of random tips that we felt were relevant enough to mention here in the guide. - It's financially smarter to build a cheap weapon, such as a Cat Claw, and stick expensive weapon spirits on it, such as Shingan, to get the effect of the weapon without breaking the bank. - To build LUV on an Arm, you need to take hits. To build it on a Sword, you need to hit enemies. Claws gain LUV through both. - Don't try to burn a Tsukumo into an Arm to get a spirit. It won't work. - When hunting for an item to build, focus on its innate Attack and/or Defense. SP can be built very quickly. Base stats cannot. ******************************************************************************** D.
