INTRODUCTION
============================================================================
Back in August last year a game was released on the DS that brought new
meaning to hand-held fighting games. Well a little over one year later,
the same people that brought you Jump Super Stars comes, Jump Ultimate Stars!
And as with last year, several great translators, gamers, and I have
compiled another guide for the use of you the fans. The goal of this guide
is to help those not fluent in Japanese or who are just stuck and need a
little help, complete the game, unlock everything and enjoy the cool new
Wifi features with your friends over the net. Now on with the guide. ^_^
Bear in mind that this is still in the works, and will be finished in due time.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
J-POWER
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is where you gain new Koma. Don't let the term "Evolution" scare you.
You're simply buying new komas, not replacing old ones.
First off, select a character. You should now see that character's
Evolution Chart.
|-[?]
|
[H]-|-[?]
^This is a standard evolution chart. They may vary depending on which
character you pick. When you highlight a box, you will see how much it
costs to buy it.
Here are some of the symbols you will run across in the Evolution charts.
H = Help koma (This is what you start with
S# = Support Koma # indicating size (They run out and attack)
B# = Battle Koma # indicating size (You control these characters)
Data = A blue box with a line and a dot.
(Unlocks either Manga info, Music track, or a World Demo)
Info Character = A purple little man with a word balloon.
(The Help Character this stems from can be set as your menu character
via the Main Menu Options)
Evolution Path = A blue box with the following picture...
[]--[]
|
---[]
(This unlocks an alternate koma path for a Battle character in the same series)
Stage = A red box with several little lines across it.
(Unlocks the stage of the respective series or one of the neutral stages
for you to battle in)
Quiz = A green box with a "Q" in it.
(Unlocks a new set of quiz questions in Quiz mode.)
Worlds = A brown box with a picture of a galaxy in it.
(Unlocks new planets where you can gain new characters.)
Example chart:
|-[S2]-[S3]
|
[H]-|-[B4]-[B5]-|-[B6]
| |
|-[E]-[D] |-[AB6]
H = Help
S = Support
B = Battle
E = Evolution Path
D = Data
AB = Alternate Battle
C = Info Character
ST = Stage
^Depending on the character you are buying from, the top row is
almost always Support koma, the middle row Battle koma, and bottom row
alternate Battle koma (Same koma, different shape and nature) and unlockables.
There are however some characters that are Support or Help only and only
have Support or Data, Evolution extension, etc. instead of Battle komas.

THE GAUGES
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
___________________
Character Nature --> [&]----|___________________| <- J-Soul (health) Gauge
| ##============== <-- Special Gauge
Character Portrait -> | ?????? <---- Character Name
\__________/
Take notice of the yellow bar. Do you see it? That's your J-Soul or Health
bar. This dictates how much health you have, once it empties your character
is KOed and leaves the battle. (If you've ever played a fighting game you
should already know this)
When this happens you'll see that your KOed characters portrait is
black and white and has a small bar in the corner of it, this bar is
your character's health gradually returning. Once filled the character
can be called back into the fight.
In the event all of your characters get KOed, J-Coins will scatter about
around your characters body. After a few seconds, all of your characters
will be revived with full health.
Next notice the small blue bar. See it? Look again... See it now? Good,
that's your Special Gauge, this gauge is used for Special Attacks, Support
Characters, and Help Characters. The gauge can be refilled several different
ways:
- Beating up your opponent
- Collecting J-Coins (the bigger the coin, the more energy you get)
- Collecting Pirate Heads (They restore 1 SP bar)
- Certain Help Komas can help speed up the gauges recovery rate
- Certain Support Komas can restore your gauges energy
- Some Ultimate Actions can also fill the Special Gauge
- Even some special attacks themselves can restore energy
To the left of these on the top left corner you'll see a kanji indicating
the nature of the character. (see the Koma Nature section to learn how this
applies to the game play)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
BATTLE SYSTEM
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are three kinds of victory conditions to choose from in Battle mode,
Versus mode, Wireless and Wifi matches.
-POINT SYSTEM-
Victories are determined by points rather than Knockouts. (of course you can
change that in Battle Mode) How this works is, all players start with zero(0)
points.
When you KO an enemy character, you get one(1) point while the character's
controller loses one(1) point.
If you KO an enemy character with your Leader character, you get two(2)
points while the enemy character's controller loses two(2) points.
And finally, if you KO an enemy Leader character, you get two(2) points.
When your whole team is KOed, you lose an additional 2 points.
When the timer runs out, the points are tallied and the one with the most
points wins. It's possible to win even with zero(0) or less points. In the
event of all players having negative number points (-1, -2, etc.) the player
with the least amount of negative points wins.
-ELIMINATION-
Victories are determined by whose left standing. That's right, good ol'"King
of the Hill" type rules. You'll find that this is the most popular in Wifi.
Basically you fight your opponents and KO each of their characters.
Once you've KOed all the opponents, you win.
-J-SYMBOL-
Here everyone starts with a Star and after a few seconds another will
drop in the middle of the stage. Your objective in this battle is to
collect the most stars. You can get them simply by KOing and opponent
and they will drop one of their stars, quickly run over and grab it.
The Player with the most stars at the end wins.
In the event there is a tie, the tied players will be set into...
!!!SUDDEN DEATH!!!
They'll be dropped onto a platform with no walls and no ground. They
will also be forced to fight with their Leader character and nothing else.
No secondary characters, support characters or help character bonuses,
and your SP gauge will start at zero. It's just you and your opponent(s).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOT-KEY & LEADER SYSTEM
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can designate two characters in your Koma page as quick select
characters via the L and R buttons. Then when you're in battle you
can simply press L or R and get the characters you want. It's been
shown in pervious screens that the Quick-select system is not limited
to support characters, help and battle characters can be assigned as well.
The character you assign as Leader will be the first character you start
with when the fight begins and the only character you'll use in Sudden Death.
If you KO your opponent with your Leader character, you get an extra win
point. And if you KO you opponents leader with any of your characters
(doesn’t have to be your leader), you get 2 win points. For a battle
character to be a leader they must have a help koma placed next to them.
The character you assign as Leader will also receive a health bonus.
After creating your deck, tap either the L or R button. This will bring up
the Leader and Hot-Key options. With the cursor select the Battle character
you wish to make Leader and assign the hot-keys to whomever you want.
You MUST assign a Leader in order for you deck to be useable in the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ITEMS & STATUS EFFECTS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you fight during the match, you may (or may not) notice some certain
items seem to make the fight easier while others make it harder.
They're called "Status Effects" you'll be seeing a lot of them.
Once one of your characters are infected with an effect, all of your
characters will share the effect when they come onto the field.
If however you have a character with an immunity koma attached to
those, switching to them will remove the effect. You can only have 1
positive and 1 negative effect on you at a time. If you get another
effect of either kind, the previous effect is canceled.

would be the one on the battle screen now (Goku).
Then tap your 2nd character (Luffy) and finally tap your 3rd character
(Ichigo) you'll have to do this fast or it'll just be the same as tagging
in and out.
As you tap your characters you'll notice that the Battle Characters

Basically a Koma is your character(s), there is no character select screen
here rather a Koma list from which you select your character(s) and form
your team here after referred to as a "Koma Deck". Koma are the little
squares that make up the character portraits in the bottom screen (Here
after referred to as "The Koma Screen").
The Koma Screen is a 4 x 5 grid that can hold up to 20 koma in all.

Depending how many komas a character takes up the function or attack(s)
will change.
1 koma = Help, used for healing, boosting and other beneficial effects.
2-3 koma = Support, summons a character that attacks/status effects/etc.
then teleports out of combat.
4-8 koma = Battle, these are the characters you control directly during
combat. When you have more that one, you can tap on the other character
with the stylus and tag out the characters.
Koma very in shape and size depending on the Koma itself.
Once you complete a Koma deck, it comes out looking like a manga page.

KOMA NATURE
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Nature system is similar to rock, paper, scissors. Using an attack of
an opposing nature will allow you to deal more damage than usual.
Basically, as explained in one of the tutorial stages, in the Jump World,
all Battle and Support Characters are affiliated with an inherent nature
either 'Laughter', 'Power', or 'Knowledge'. In the Deck Maker section
(bottom screen) you'll see kanji symbol that designates the Koma nature.

Knowledge Laughter
Power beats Knowledge. Knowledge beats Laughter. And Laughter beats Power.
When you use an attack that is strong against the opponent’s inherent
nature, you deal 1.5 times the damage. (Luffy is Power, Bo-bobo is
Laughter, And Yoh is Knowledge.)
Do note that some characters have special moves that are of a different
nature than their komas inherent nature. To know which ones are like that
see the Koma List section.
You can also recognize a characters Nature by the color around the kanji.
Red = Power
Green = Knowledge
Yellow = Laughter
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
KOMA EVOLUTION
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A new feature of Jump Ultimate Stars is the new Koma Evolution System.
You now need to collect different color gems that appear when you KO
your opponent(s).
- Red = Power
- Green = Knowledge
- Yellow = Laughter
- Blue = Friendship
- Purple = Effort
- White = J(ump)
Upon collecting them, you go on to add these items to your selected koma
and evolve them into either Support or Battle komas through their
"Evolution Chart".

|-[S2]-[S3]

...an example of a completed Evolution Chart.
--ABRIVIATIONS--
H = Help Koma
S = Support Koma
B = Battle Koma
(The numbers indicate how many spaces the Koma takes)
You can go back anywhere in the Evolution Chart to purchase Komas you
passed up.
Some komas will have special requirements in order for them to be unlocked.
Keep in mind that you're going to need some support komas if you want to
have a useable deck, so don't go turning them all into battle characters.
When unlocking new koma, new paths will open up.
Example:

Now we'll pay into the box next to B4...

See? This is how you unlock things in the evolution charts. Note this
when navigating the Koma section thinking you can buy the exact koma
you want reguardless. You can't. You'll have to pay into each piece of
the chart. Some paths will not unlock until you pay into another character
from the same series.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
HELP CHARACTER
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's how the Help koma system works. All help koma abilities are passive
now, you have to assign them to characters via the arrows (i.e. the help koma
with the arrow pointing at the character is the character that gets the
effect).
The abilities you can get from the help koma vary from triple
jump, wall jump, air dash, health recovery, status effect immunity,
special gauge recovery (also adds 1 to the gauge), etc.
Having two or more help komas with the same effect on one character,
cancels out the other koma with the same effect.

SUPPORT CHARACTER
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Support character comes in for an assist then leaves, but can be called
in again. Depending on the number of panels the character takes up, the
attack will change.
Some attacks will only take effect once the support character is hit.
Some support attacks will make the bottom screen change to look like this:
[1][2]
[3][4]
(Depending which player you are, that slot will be a Jump logo instead.)
When you see this use your stylus and tap on the number and the
corresponding player will be targeted and receive the attack.
Characters with this effect are listed with the term "Select a Target"
in their effects.
Please note that all Support characters can double as Help characters.
