In DK pass, when you go up the mountain, and you pass the part when the snowball rolls down the mountain, keep going a little farther and you will see a snow hill on the left. Go up the hill, and there will be an item box by itself. If you get it, you will get either a Star or Triple Mushroom no matter what place you're in (even in 1st place)!
