When opponents hit a dropped Banana, they start curling around for a small moment, after which they can easily accelerate again. It is also possible to hold a Banana behind your kart and move in front of an opponent. When an opponent hits a Banana on hold, they also start curling around. Bananas are easily avoidable, thus real players might not hit them as much as Computer Players. Bananas can also provide protection. Holding a Banana behind your kart prevents you from being hit in the back by Green Shells or Red Shells. However, there are three of them. , | After obtaining one of these, press the L or X Button to move the Bananas `-' behind your kart. No need to hold the button. Press the L or X Button again to drop one of the Bananas on the road. Press the Up Button while pressing the L or X Button to throw one of the Bananas forward. When opponents hit a dropped Banana, they start curling around for a small moment, after which they can easily accelerate again. It is also possible to slow down an opponent by moving in front of it while the Bananas are behind your kart. When an opponent hits a Banana on hold, they also start curling around. Be aware, though: the opponent can easily hit more than one Banana, and doing so won't cause it to slow down more. Bananas are easily avoidable, thus real players might not hit them as much as Computer Players. Bananas can also provide protection. Holding Bananas behind your kart prevents you from being hit in the back by Green Shells or Red Shells. '|__/ ress L or X to release the Blue Shell after obtaining it. It will ignore ,| all players expect the one that is first. It may take a while before it `' reaches this player, and it will explode as it hits him, causing the player to be launched into the air. Any players close to the player on first spot will also be hit. Many people believe that it is impossible to avoid a Blue Shell. Yet, it is not. In order to avoid a Blue Shell, watch the Touch Screen closely. When the Blue Shell appears on the screen, start powersliding. Make sure there are red sparks coming off your wheels (press Left, Right, Left, Right while powersliding), and wait for the Blue Shell to start hovering above you. Once it attempts to crush into you, release the R Button and immediately press and hold it again into the same direction. It may be hard, but practice and eventually you'll do it. Something else you can do is brake and hope it hits the number 2 too. ________________________________________________________________________________ ,-,---. '|___/ -------_ .---------. ,| \ ob-omb _----------------------| [B-005] |------------------------------+ `-^---' ------- '---------' ,-. . | | nlike most other items, Bob-ombs won't be thrown backwards when | | . released with L or X. Instead, they are thrown forward. In order to `--^-' drop them backwards, hold down the Down Button while pressing the L or X Button. When an opponent hits a dropped Bob-omb, it gets thrown into the air. Multiple enemies can be hit at once. A Bob-omb can also be hung behind your kart by holding the X or L Button. When an opponent hits a Bob-omb hanging behind your kart, they also get thrown into the air. Luckily, you won't take any damage and will be able to drive on. ________________________________________________________________________________ ,-,---. '|___/ -------_ .---------. ,| \ oo-Hoo _----------------------| [B-006] |------------------------------+ `-^---' ------- '---------' .-,--. '|__/ ress the L or X Button to release the Boo after obtaining it, after which ,| it will steal an item currently in the possession of another player. The `' Boo-Hoo can be seen on the Touch Screen. It will then float besides players. However, it won't be seen on the Top Screen until it actually performs his action. Boos won't be shown on the Touch Screen during Battles. When you notice a Boo on the Touch Screen, immediately use the item in your possession. Because it steals your item means it will give the stolen item to whoever released it. If you possess an item that can be hold behind your car, hold it behind your car. The Boo won't be able to steal it unless it is still in the square at the upper left corner of the screen. When you release a Boo, you will be invisible, causing no one to see you. However, when a Boo-user drives next to another Player, the second player will be able to hear a sound. During Battles, Boo w ________________________________________________________________________________ ,-,---. '|___/ -----------_ .---------. ,| \ ullet Bill _------------------| [B-007] |------------------------------+ `-^---' ----------- '---------' ,. / | fter obtaining a Bullet Bill, press L or X to activate it. You will /~~|-. Then turn into a Bullet Bill, causing you to be shot across the middle ,' `-' of the street at high speed. There is no need for steering, as you will simply follow the middle of the road after turning into a Bullet Bill. Anyone in your way will be hit and get knocked over. The amount of time you will be a Bullet Bill is short. Keep watching the Touch Screen to see if there are any Bullet Bills heading for you. When you see one, immediately head to the left or right side of the road, unless the player possessing the Bullet Bill is far away from you. Do the same thing if you see someone just got a Bullet Bill out of an Item Box. ________________________________________________________________________________ .-,--' \|__ ---------_ .---------. | ake Item _----------------------| [B-008] |------------------------------+ `' ----------- '---------' ,. / | fter obtaining a Fake Item, press and hold the L or X Button to hold it /~~|-. behind your kart. Release the L or X Button to place it on the road. ,' `-' Press the Up button while releasing the L or X Button to throw the Fake Item forward. When an opponent hits a dropped Fake Item, they get knocked over. When an opponent hits a Fake Item you're holding behind your kart, they also get knocked over, and your Fake Item will be gone. The difference between Fake Items and real Item Blocks is that Fake Items don't have "?"s in it, and they don't circle around the way real Item Blocks do. During Battles and Races, opponents usually place then on random positions. A good strategy is to place a Fake Item while driving over a real Item Block. Doing so may cause players to believe it is a real Item Block, and hit it. ________________________________________________________________________________ ,---. | -' | ,-' ----------_ .---------. `---| reen Shell _--------------------| [B-009] |------------------------------+ ,-.| ----------- '---------' `-+' ,. / | fter obtaining a Green Shell, press and hold L or X to hang it behind /~~|-. your kart. Once shot, a Green Shell will keep going into the same direction. If lucky, you'll hit another player, who whil get knocked over. People who are good at aiming should know that they can best fire a Green Shell when someone is directly in front of them and they know they won't turn. Green Shells can also be hold behind your kart, and can be fired backwards by holding the Down Button while pressing L or X. Triple Green Shells provide the second-best protection there is, with a Star being the best protection. You can just drive besides opponents to get them hit by one of your Green Shells, and when someone fires a Green Shell or Red Shell at you, a Green Shell will stop it, causing the Green Shell to disappear. The "great protection" will stop once one of the Green Shells get used by either shooting them or when they offer protection.
