Really, really, long ago... way far out in space in a dark, dank
place shunned by starlight... there was this creepy planet floating
alone... The beings of this world were... creepy. They spent their
time staring creepily into space. Just creepy day dreaming, right?
Wrong. They were searching. Searching for a new home.
At last, they fixed their creepy gazes on a distant land, a land of
beauty and peace.

Oho! Young Masters Mario and Luigi! I've anxiously awaited your
arrival! Yes, indeed, the princess craves playmates, I'm afraid,
she's rather tantrummy. Please go to her at once! Please. I beg of
you, go to the princess. She awaits playmates in that room up ahead.
TOADSWORTH
I say! What's this hullabaloo? What of the princess?
BWAHAHA!
BABY BOWSER
I, Prince Bowser, am taking Princess Peach with me! You two babies
can scram!
TOADSWORTH
Absolute nonsense! I rather think that you'll do no such thing! En

PRINCESS PEACH CASTLE - Present

Famed inventor Prof. E. Gadd has completed his time machine! The
machine's energy source? This amazing Cobalt Star! The unveiling took
place at Peach's castle and was seen by luminaries from near and far.
Princess Peach was reportedly overjoyed by the contraption... so
overjoyed in fact that she promptly set off on a voyage to the
Mushroom Kingdom's past! Of course, her able ward Toadsworth is
beside himself with worry. Details at 11!
TOADSWORTH
Princess!! Your majesty, please return!
I say, I am simply beside myself with worry.
GADD
Heh heh heh. No need to worry yourself. My machine's safe as can be.
Why, there's a 99.99999999 per cent chance the princess will return!
TOADSWORTH
THE HORROR!
- He faints -
TOAD 1
Toadsworth! Wake up! Toadsworth!
TOAD 2
Whoa, he worried so hard, he KO'd himself! Mario, I'm pretty sure
Toadsworth has a Refreshroom in his room. Think you could go get it?

On direct feed, Cloud Cam view of Peach's castle, coming up!
- After Mario retrieves the Refreshroom -
TOAD 2
Toadsworth! Any final words? Can I have your cane?

Doctor! SPEAK, man! Will Toadsworth recover?
DOCTOR
Oh, the prognosis is grim... I'm afraid our dear Toadsworth has
worried himself into a state of Shroomshock. Without the restorative
properties of a Refreshroom, there's naught we can do.
TOAD 2
Toadsworth!
- Mario appears and sprinkles the mushroom -
TOADSWORTH
HUZZAH!
- A time machine drops in -
GADD
Well, take a gander at that. The time machine's returned! Something's
amiss, though. What could've gone wrong?
TOADSWORTH
Oh, princess, welcome home!
- Door opens -
TOADSWORTH
Your majesty, I've been fraught with -
- A monster pops out. Everyone runs off -
TOAD
NO sign of the princess! No! No! NOOOOOO! That awful monster...
GADD
Just take 'er easy, now. She wasn't this feller's breakfast. My DS
time radar puts Peach somewhere in the Mushroom Kingdom of
yesteryear.
TOAD
Time radar? TIME RADAR?! You just made that up! WhereÃ錨 this monster
come from, then?
GADD
That I donÃ付 know. And with the time machine this dinged up, weÃ瓶e
not going anywhere.
- Luigi runs in, arms flaying -
GADD
WhatÃ不 that? Calm down and speak slowly! A mysterious hole has
appeared in the garden? Hmm... it's possible the return of the
machine tore holes in the time continuum. To the garden, fellers!
TOAD
Ah... Luigi, are you on your way to the garden? Instead, how about
you stand guard and keep that thing from escaping and eating
everyone?
- Luigi shakes his head -
TOAD
Oh, I see... well, if you'd rather not, I guess I can't force you to
do it or anything. Who knows what the future holds, though? Could be
you might face even worse things! Oh hey, so tell me, are your jumps
coming along as well as Mario's? 'Cause he's the best. Yeah, listen,
no offense, but next to Mario, that just seems... underwhelming. Know
what I mean? Show him what I mean, Mario.
Seriously Luigi, try jumping like Mario! You need more intensity or
something. Wow... that was super! That was a great jump! Worthy of
Mario himself. You really are brothers! Hey! You'd better hustle
along to the garden.

GARDEN

As I suspected... IT'S A TIME HOLE! Yessiree, this time hole is a
doorway to the past! No doubt about it, it appeared because of that
time machine.
Careful there, young feller! If I'm right, that time hole leads back
in time! Yep, to a younger Mushroom Kingdom. Question is to WHERE in
the Mushroom Kingdom?! The other question is, if a feller were to
jump in, could he even make it back... Hm? Use this time hole to
rescue the priness? Hmm... now there's an idea. I'd bet dollars to
donuts that's our best chance at saving her.
???
MASTER MARIO!
- Toadsworth's cart crashes against the time hole, knocking Luigi in-
TOADSWORTH
M-M-Master Mario! The princess! Where is Princess Peach? And what
were those lights? And what is this odd hole?! I demand answers, sir!
- Mario leaps into the time hole -
TOADSWORTH
LASTER MARIO!

Mushroom Kingdom - Past

- Mario lands on Luigi, and suitcase appears -
???
Watch the leather, professor! No need for the shoving! Oh, you must
be Mario. According to the professor, there should be a Luigi here as
well, but I don't...
- Luigi gets up off the ground, knocking the suitcase out the way -
???
Oh, my! Are you Luigi? I... sorry about that. I am pleased to meet
you. I am known as Stuffwell. Professor E. Gadd invented me. I am
what is called a suitcase. The professor sent me back in time to be
your assistant.
Yes, "assistant" is accurate. I'm more than just some place to store
your belongings. I have many complex sensors and various memory
apparati; for data retention... and er... well, suffice to say, I am
very technologic by contraption standards. I'll be a BIG help.
- The portal close and Luigi cries. A Toad falls on Mario's head -
TOAD
The... village...
- A flying saucer flies by -
TOAD
The... village... Dank purple... Mushrooms...
- Mario and Luigi flee as the spaceships arrive and kidnap the Toad.
They arrive at a wrecked village to see the flying saucers attack and
beam up residents -

Mrrrrrrf... Mmmmrph... is... anybody there? Hello? What happened to
these awful Shroob things? Are they gone? Me? I'm the mayor of this
village. Nice to not see you! I was trying to hide from those Shroob
things and got stuck... There must be a way out... that doesn't
involving dieting.
- Mario jumps and bumps the mayor out through the chimney -
MAYOR
Ho ho! Safe at last!
- Shroobs arrive and surround the mayor -
HELP!
- Saucer beams up the mayor. The Shroobs attack and the brothers fall
to a beam -
Meanwhile, high above Holli Jolli village...
EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!
Baby Mario, Luigi and Peach cry.
TOADSWORTH
PRIIIIIIINCESS! Oh! Oh, princess! Never fear, my dear. Toadsworth is
here! Come! Let's get back to safety!
- Toadsworth takes the Princess out -
???
THIS IS THE GREAT PRINCE BOWSER! Kneel, minions! Ok, now get up! All
personnel to the bridge!
- Baby Mario leads Baby Luigi out -
KOOPA
Hey, you there. His Grouchiness awaits you! Get your tails to the
bridge! I wonder if you little spuds can make it on your own...

B. BOWSER
Time to show these alien jerks what the Koopa Cruiser can do! Fire
the Koopa cannon!
Bwah ha ha ha HAAA! I am just so dang EVIL! I hope they felt honored

B. BOWSER

- The Koopa ship descends suddenly -
B. BOWSER
Hey! You call that piloting?! Pay attention, sky-nerd!

Prince Bowser! There! 4 'o clock!

These villagers are under Shroob attack!
KOOPA
Your... your orders?
B. BOWSER
Aw, man... it's half past snack time already. We... we saw nothing!

- Baby Peach cries -
B. BOWSER
MY EARS! She'll ruin us all! Fine! I'll help them.
- A cannon lands, scaring off the Shroobs -
B. BOWSER
There! Happy? You two take care of things from here. Go get 'em, Red!
You too, Greenie!
TOADSWORTH (Past)
Young Master, if you would, please go check on those unfortunate
villagers. That, I believe, will make the Princess most pleased, and
perhaps avoid future tantrums. I shall wait right here for your no
doubt triumphant return. Tally ho and all that!
- The babies find the adult Mario and Luigi -
TOADSWORTH (Past)
That was rather close, eh? Now that I see these villagers close up,
they bear a striking resemblance to the two of you! But who knows
when more of those awful aliens will return? I believe it best to
take these two to Master Bowser's ship.

These monsters... their arrival seems like a horrible dream... it was
all so sudden... Foul parasites from the Shroob planet land of utter
creepiness! Their purpose is oh so clear! They wish to take all we
hold dear in the Mushroom Kingdom! Our land... our very lives! Oh,
the village is in ruins... And our beloved castle as well!
TOAD
Flee! Flee! We must escape! The castle is lost!
B. BOWSER
Prince Bowser here! Come in, Kamek! Get the Koopa Cruiser here, on
the double!
KAMEK
MY PRINCE! Prince Bowser! Let's hightail it out of here!

And that is how the princess and I were rescued by Master Bowser, odd
as that sounds. And now, almost all of the Mushroom Kingdom has
fallen under Shroob control.
KOOPA
Status report, Your Badness! We are currently on approach to Peach's
castle.
TOADSWORTH (past)
Our once beautiful castle... No... look at it now. No doubt those
fiends call it Shroob castle. Rumor has it their leader is there.
Princess Shroob.
Eh? What's that you say? Princess Peach is being held prisoner in the
castle? Ho ho! Surely you jest. The princess is quite safe and sound
right here with me.
Hmm? I beg your pardon? The future Princess Peach? The future Master
Mario and Luigi? Ho! Ho! Ho! You poor fellows... you've gone a bit
daffy, eh? Your noggins must have gotten bonked. Perhaps a nap?
B. BOWSER
Status report! NOW!
KOOPA 2
Your foulness! We're receiving some sort of transmission from
Peach's... I mean, Shroob's castle!
B. BOWSER
A transmission? Put it on the monitor! Let's see what's up.
- Princess Shroob on screen speaking in an unintelligible language -
B. BOWSER
Who's this hag?
TOADSWORTH (Past) Th-that must be Princess Shroob! Undoubtedly!
B. BOWSER
Man, does anyone here have ANY idea what sheÃ不 blabbing about?
KOOPA 3
Ack! P-Prince Bowser! From Shroob Castle... itÃ不 a Shroob missile and
itÃ不 headed straight for us!
B. BOWSER
Whoa! Evasive action! Koopa Cannon! FIRE!
KOOPA 3
DIRECT HIT!
B. BOWSER
Those alien DIRTBAGS! We gotta hold it together until we get back
home!
- Ship descends and crashes down -
STUFFWELL
It's just one disaster after another with you two, isn't it? Well, my
keen detection skills don't pick up anyone else in the immediate
vicinity. Perhaps they were all thrown clear by the crash, what with
the exploding. According to my ultra-radar, a new time hole has
appeared somewhere in this castle. I think it may be advisable to
find the time hole and return to our own time for a while.
KAMEK
PRIIIINCE! Prince Bowser! Ah-HAAAA!! You! You little red and green
insects! Didn't I try to kidnap you once? Yeah, I did! Boy, THAT
didn't work out so well... and you don't look quite so little
anymore. And you're much hairier, too... weird, but none of that
matters! You like bothering our budding master of evil, do you? Then
I'll bother you up!
- Kamek flies off after the battle -
TOADSWORTH (past)
All right, are you? Jolly good!
STUFFWELL
Mario, Luigi... that's the new time hole. BACK TO ADVENTURE.
TOADSWORTH (Past)
Pardon me? You say we should leap into that ridiculous hole?!
Absolute rubbish! Do you honestly believe that I would place the
princess in such reckless endangerment?
STUFFWELL
Come on, it's time to go back to our own era. This blathering
nincompoop is just arresting our progress.
TOADSWORTH (Past)
You... why, you SCOUNDREL! How DARE you refer to me as such? And it's
nincomPOOP!
- Mario leaps into the time hole -
TOADSWORTH (Past)
Hah! I say! What cheek! You, I dare say, are the true nincompoops!
Come back here this instant!
- Toadsworth leaps into the time hole -

And just like that, here we are, back in our own time. Let's hustlify
over and see the good professor. If you're unsure where to find him,
take a look at the top screen, if you follow me.
GADD
Hey now! Back at last! Stuffwell informed me that you were bringing
the little fellers back with you to this time. And just look at this,
now... they're in red and green! I am plump astounded! But then
again, what else would the little fellers be wearing, huh? Still it
sure tickles me to see the little bros. teamed up with the regular
big bros.!
STUFFWELL
Professor! I must inform you, the Mushroom Kingdom of the past is in
gargantulent trouble!
GADD
Hmm... so it's true. These Shroob creatures have made off with the
princess, eh?
TOAD
WeÃ夫e gotta do something! It's the PRINCESS.
GADD
Hmm
STUFFWELL
Oh, I should have mentioned. Professor... we recovered this at
Bowser's castle in the past. I feel ashamed that I cannot identify
it. I have no similar records in my database.
GADD
YOWZER! That's a Cobalt Star Shard! The time machine's fuel source!
Why was it in Bowser's castle?! And how did it get broken?
- Shard moves towards the Shroob monster -
Good gravy! The Cobalt Star Shard is driving that monster crazy!
Hmmm... could it be... yep, it could! I do believe there's a link
between the Cobalt Star and the Shroob marauders.
TOAD
Maybe we can figure out how to defeat these alien jerks if we find
more Cobalt Star Shards!
GADD
Possibly.
TOAD
Mario! You gotta do it! Find the other shards and rescue Princess
Peach!
- The shard floats off and creates a time hole in west room -
GADD
That shaking was not natural. I'd wager a new time hole just opened
here in the castle. That Cobalt Star Shard is reacting to the other
shards that're scattered in the past!
Mario! Luigi! You youngsters get going and find these other Cobalt
Star Shards! Oh, and by the way, if you care to check on the Cobalt
Star Shard you've collected... just open up Stuffwell there and check
his screens.
There's a fair chance this new time hole will lead you to more
shards. Why don't you jump on in and head back to the Mushroom
Kingdom of the past? Oh, wait, but before you go, I've got a present
for you! It's a badge. Yep, items like this can power you fellers up.
Go ahead and press start to take a gander inside Stuffwell. Well, I'm
gonna continue my research of this alien predator. The rest is up to
you boys. Oh, and by the by, the Shroom shop on the castle's east
side just opened for business. You may want to stock up on items and
whatnot before hitting the next time hole.

arrived... in this time... we were attacked. A fierce... alien race
known as... the Shroobs... came out of nowhere...

captured by... the trees... of this forest... These trees... they're
slowly but surely... siphoning away all our mushroom power. Our vim,
the pure vim... then flows through the... roots of the trees deep,
deep underground... it is gathered... at the Shroob Vim Factory... in
the heart of the forest. Rumor has it... the mushroom power is...
somehow changed at the... Vim Factory. It's mixed with... awful
chemicals and... becomes the fuel for the Shroobs flying saucers.
Mario... you must... leave me... hasten to the Vim Factory. It is
all... that matters now. Somewhere... in that horrid place... is a
Cobalt Star Shard. I just knew it... The Cobalt Star and Princess
Peach.

Whoa. My helmet antenna! It's broken! Oh, man, YESSS!

Hey... mine broke too! Talk about lucky! I mean, didja HEAR what was
coming out of my mouth?

I know, dude! Seriously, who talks like that? Anyway, I think these
tots freed us.

Ya think? You little taters trashed our antennas?

Right ON! Seriously, thanks! You saved our bacon. We were... not
right in the head. So listen, you gotta let us thank you by hooking
you up with these spare hammers.

Now YOU can be Hammer Bros! But we'd better teach you how to use 'em

- After defeating the caterpillar boss, Prince Bowser appears and
steal both shards -

GWAH HA HA! LOOOOSERS! Thought you could get away with stealing my
treasure from MY castle, did you? It's payback time! I'll take my
treasure ... plus whatever you just picked up as compensation!
KAMEK
Prince Bowser! Let's scram!
STUFFWELL
Cruel fate! We finally succeeded in recovering the second shard and
now this happens... shame cycle initiated. We must return to our own
time and rework our strategy.

About time you boys showed! Ran into some persnickety obstacles, did
you?
STUFFWELL
I am deep in a shame cycle, professor. We nearly had a pair of
fragments, but... that young Bowser fellow made off with them both.
GADD
Heh heh heh. Now, now, no need to get your leather lathered. There've
been new time holes popping up here faster than toast on Sunday
morning! And I tell you, one of 'em is giving off tremendous Cobalt
Star energy readings. I've no doubt that's the time hole you want?
Yep! That's where Baby Bowser made his escape!

Mario, Luigi, we must chase! We MUST have redemptitude!
GADD
Heh heh heh... look now, before you rush off, I think it'd be wise to
survey the rest of the castle. And another thing! There's a noisy
feller from the past running around with a baby. He and Toadsworth
were in the garden. Can you make sure there's no hoopba out there?

Jolly good, elder me! Our charge is giggling! Oh, Masters Mario and
Luigi! Grown right up, have you? I'm quite up to speed on our crisis.
Bit of a sticky wicket. The adult Princess Peach, the Kingdom... you
must save it all. And I shall be right here as you do, rooting for
victory!
What's that you say, old bean? You wish to learn our move? Well, if
it will help you fulfil your duties, of course! It would be an honor
and a privilege! Come! Practice awaits! Chin up, elder me! Mustn't
falter now! I should think this spin jump will give you access to
some awfully hard to reach areas. Now, time to be off, sirs! Utilize
the new time hole! Rescue our princess!

Aw, whatta lemmon! And this film ain't cheap neither. I was primed
for a scoop, and all I get are whisky and a coupla sap babies! Huh?
Me? Kylie koopa, ace reporter! The Koopa Kronicle's best! You know
about the giant egg, yeah? Why, it just appeared! And THIS dame's got
a hunch it's connected to the Shroobs. I thought I'd get the straight
dope from the locals, but... this place's like a morgue! Where is
everybody? And speaking of fishy, this jump platform positively reeks
of mystery, REEKS of it! But... I hopped up there, and it didn't do
doodley-squat. I wonder if I'm too heavy for it... say, do me a
favour and hop up there, will ya?

It does seem likely that rolling that giant stone down the hole will
expandulate the passage. There may be other Yoshis wandering around I

Well, I am stupermortified! There's an EGG factory in this beast's
torsal cavity... this is vile Shroob work. We must do whatever it
takes to free the captive Yoshis! Not only that, we need to find
Bowser and his precious belly.

Ow...! The past is a total blank. It makes my mind hurt. No matter

I honestly don't have a clue what that is. What I do know is that it
scares my cap off. I think that's the reason my memory is blank. I

trapped inside 'em. And the Yoshis that were in eggs are probably
gonna reborn as monsters. I've gotta hurry and get 'em out of there,
but... there's this huge, nasty THING in the back who's guarding the
exit.

eggs supplied that with its energy. Yes, indeed.

Yes, Princess Peach is holding off the alien scourge with the Cobalt
Star, but...

As we know, Princess Peach lost this battle, and the star shattered
into fragments. How did this all happen? Or did something unexpected
and just plain awful happen? Anyhoo, it hardly matters. You just find
the time hole and collect the Cobalt Star Shards. Oh, and that
reminds me, a new time hole has appeared on the third floor of the
castle. My readings indicate that this particular time hole is a
direct link to Peach's castle of old. Unfortunately, that castle's
under guard by the Shroobs. You boys canÃ付 get inside. So it looks
like you'll have to just concentrate on gathering Cobalt Star Shards
for now.

this story's gonna be bigger than the Yoshi's island hoo-ha!
Here's the scoop. Princess Shroob's gonna be arriving here any minute
now! Yeah, there's gonna be a big to-do celebrating the conquer of
the Mushroom Kingdom! And that's just the fries, boys. Here's the
burger! Some other princess type's coming too! My sources indicate
this other damsel likes pink, and she MAY be royalty of some surf.
What? Princess Peach? The doll they're bringing here is Princess
Peach? Princess Peach came here and got pinched by Princess Shroob? I
gotta get this straight. You're snooping about trying to the adult
rescue Princess Peach? Sounds like balloon juice to me, fella... but
what a scoop it'd be if you're on the level! Alrighty then! You need
to get into the dome so you can nab the princess, right? Well, word
on the street is there's supposed to be a secret entrance around
here... word on the street ain't specific, though so I dunno about
its whereabouts. You're not getting in through here, regardless, so

entrance is connected somehow to 4 desert statues.
