3] CHARACTERS [0300]
______________________________________________________________________________
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- MARIO --------------------------------------------------------------------'
Mario is the main man of the Mushroom Kingdom and always helps out where
there is trouble. He used to be a plumber, but now it seems that he's
considered the bodyguard of Princess Peach. Whenever something bad happens to
her, you know that Mario will be after her. Mario and Bowser always quarrel,
yet the red plumber always comes out on top.
Baby Mario is just as brave and heroic as his big counterpart. He will jump
into the action in a heartbeat. Baby Mario is best at fitting into small
places where the big guys just can't reach. He was even saving Peach and
fighting Bowser as a baby!
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- LUIGI --------------------------------------------------------------------'
Luigi is Mario's younger brother. He usually doesn't follow Mario around on
his quests, but they know when to team up to get the job done. Luigi may be
cowardly and not as courageous as his bro, but neither could survive without
the other, and both know that. Luigi tends to take the abuse throughout the
game, as for that he never gets the respect that his brother does.
Just like his older self, Baby Luigi is clumsy and frightened at a lot of
things. He has a weird sense of humor and only stops crying when his bigger
self gets whacked on the head. He's a big crybaby, but Baby Luigi also helps
Baby Mario a lot in terms of fighting off Baby Bowser.
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- PRINCESS PEACH -----------------------------------------------------------'
Peach is the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. She's always in a heap of
trouble; pretty much every single game she's been in she's needed to be
rescued. Her disappearance triggers Mario and Luigi to team up and find her.
Baby Princess Peach isn't a big part of the game, but you get to see her.
Unfortunately, she's bawling most of the time: that's what she does best.
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- BOWSER -------------------------------------------------------------------'
When Bowser's around, he'll be bringing destruction with him! The king of the
Koopas has a strange obsession with Peach and always tries to kidnap her.
Most of the time he's successful, but his plans fall short when Mario arrives
to the scene. If there's carnage about, you can expect Bowser to be behind
it. There are some strange and dire situations where Bowser and the Mario
Bros. team up, but don't expect them to get along at all.
Baby Bowser is just as reckless and foul-mouthed as he is in the present. He
was still up to his lame antics as a kid, and just like now, he's always
getting beat. Strangely enough, Baby Bowser wears more clothes than he does
in the present.
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- THE SHROOBS --------------------------------------------------------------'
The Shroob invaders are a race of aliens that resemble giant mushrooms. Led
by the evil Princess Shroom, they try to take over Mushroom Kingdom and make
it their home. They successfully take over Peach's Castle in the past as
their own. It's up to Mario and Luigi to go back in time and take the castle
back for their own! There are many kinds of Shroobs, and they all possess
deadly weapons and fleets of UFO's to carry out their evil plans.
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- STUFFWELL ----------------------------------------------------------------'
Stuffwell is a cute little suitcase made by Professor E. Gadd. He's not just
a normal bag, for he can talk! He is very smart and has a lot of knowledge
about the Mushroom Kingdom in the past and present. He will teach you new
abilities as well as guide you through the basics of the game.
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- TOADSWORTH ---------------------------------------------------------------'
Toadsworth is the caretaker of Peach and is very protective of her. He never
lets her out of his sight and tends to panic over little things. Expect him
to be prancing around and yelling all the time. The past and present
Toadsworth team up to teach Mario and Luigi new valuable attacks.
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- PROFESSOR E. GADD --------------------------------------------------------'
E. Gadd is a very reliable and smart scientist. He hasn't played many big
roles in the past games, but he's here now to help out Mario and Luigi. He
created the time machine that transported Peach to the past. His invention
sprouts time holes throughout the Mushroom Kingdom, and they are the key to
time travel. He's the man to go to if you need an objective to complete.
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- KAMEK --------------------------------------------------------------------'
Kamek once tried to kidnap Baby Mario before, but he was defeated. Kamek is a
Magikoopa and is the babysitter of Baby Bowser. He has to deal with all the
stuff that the little prince gives him, and it's obviously a stressful job.
He stands in the way of Mario and Luigi several times.
______________________________________________________________________________
4] THE BASICS [0400]
______________________________________________________________________________
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- TIME TRAVELLING, OH MY ---------------------------------------------------'
Time travelling plays a gigantic role in Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time.
Mysterious time holes will open up around Peach's Castle, which lead to the
past. Talk to Professor E. Gadd to get a new objective. If you look on the
map, it shows each time hole with a marker showing where it leads. Some time
holes are first unaccessable. Check back once you learn a new move that may
enable you to reach it.
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- GO TEAM ------------------------------------------------------------------'
Teamwork is a very important factor in this game. Most puzzles in the game
need to be solved by either using each other or splitting up. Remember that
when you learn to piggyback, you can throw the babies to higher ground. Like
I stated earlier, the babies can fit into smaller areas that the adults can't
reach. Slip Baby mario or Baby Luigi into a tunnel or small hole and they can
usually find a switch to open up a path. To split up, press X or Y. To
reunite, walk up to the other team.
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- BATTLES AND TIMING -------------------------------------------------------'
Timing is everything in battles. They can either let you dodge attacks or
deal more damage. If Mario uses a jump attack, press A right before hitting
the enemy to deal more damage. If you jump with Luigi, do the same but press
B instead of A. Baby Mario needs to hit X for extra damage, and Baby Luigi
hits Y. For using hammers, it's pretty much the same way. When you use a
hammer, press the character's designated button when the hammer shakes. You
will deal more damage to the enemy that way.
Piggyback battles start to make the battle more confusing. If you use a jump
attack (let's use Mario/Baby Mario for an example), press X when you're about
to hit the enemy for Baby Mario to land on him. Mario will flip in the air
and fall on the enemy. If you hit A right before Mario lands, he'll deal more
damage. It's the same with Luigi/Baby Luigi, except you must hit Y and B. To
use a hammer, press A when the hammer shakes to have Mario raise up Baby
Mario, then hit X when the baby's hammer shakes to deal a large sum of
damage. Once again, press B and Y for Luigi/Baby Luigi.
You can also dodge enemies attacks. All enemies have some sort of attack
pattern that help you dodge attacks. Let's use a Boo Guy as an example. He
will point before he uses his attack. If Boo Guy points to the right, he will
hit Mario. If he points to the left, he'll attack Luigi. Some enemies will
use red and green as a symbol for whom they are attacking. Keep your eyes
peeled for these symbols.
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- AN EXPERIENCED FIGHTER ---------------------------------------------------'
For each battle you win, the surviving Mario Bros. will gain an number of
experience points. You will level up after gaining a certain amount of
experience points. When you gain a level, these attributes will increase:
Heart Points (HP) = This should be obvious: it's your health. If it reaches
zero, then that character dies. If both bros die, then
it's game over for you.
Bros Points (BP) = Like most RPGs have MP, Superstar Saga has Bros Points.
These allow you to use Bros Attacks; if it reaches zero,
then you cannot use said attacks.
Power = The higher it is, the more damage you'll deal to enemies.
Defense = The higher it is, the less damage you'll receive from enemies.
Speed = Determines what order the players go in battle in regards to the
enemies.
Stache = The higher it is, the bigger discount you get on shop items. It also
boosts your chance of a critical hit.
After you level up, you will get to raise one attribute as a bonus. When the
Lakitu appears with the spinning wheel, move it down to the attribute you
want to increase more. The wheel will spin and press A to stop it. Whatever
number it lands on is how much the stat will increase. For instance, let's
say your HP is currently at 35 and you want to use a bonus on it. You stop
the wheel and get 4. Now your HP is raised to 39. It's that simple!
.----------------------------------------------------------------------------.
'- NEW MOVES ----------------------------------------------------------------'
Throughout the course of the game, the adults as well as the babies can learn
several abilities. These abilities cannot be used in battles, but they are
helpful for accessing new areas which were not accessible earlier or just
simply progressing through the game. Here is a list of the abilities that you
can learn:
-- Spin Jump --
Use: Adults
Learned From: Toadsworth after Vim Factory
Description: Press B when selected for Luigi to hop on Mario's shoulders and
hit A to fly for a short distance.
-- Bros. Ball --
Use: Adults
Learned From: Toadworth after Yoob's Belly
Description: When selected, press A to have both bros curl up into a ball.
Now you can access smaller areas and cover terrain faster.
-- Baby Drill --
Use: Babies
Learned From: Hammer Bros. after defeating them
Description: When selected, press Y for Baby Luigi to hop on Baby Mario,
then press Y again to drill in the ground. Used for going
under gates or collecting beans. Press Y to re-emerge.

5] WALKTHROUGH [0500]
______________________________________________________________________________
"BACK TO ADVENTURE!"
==============================================================================
5.01] PEACH'S CASTLE [0501]
==============================================================================
You will immediately start off as Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. Toadsworth
arrives as you're scheduled for a playdate with Baby Princess Peach. Use the
D-Pad to go up and enter the throne room. Once inside, Baby Bowser will try
to kidnap Baby Peach again. Baby Mario will confront him in battle as Baby
Luigi guards Baby Peach.
This is merely a training battle; you can't lose. Toadsworth will teach you
the basics to fighting. Hit X to use a jump attack, and press X right before
you land to deal extra damage to Baby Bowser. Baby Bowser's fireball attack
can be avoided by pressing X at the right time. Toadsworth will hold your
hand through the whole thing. Once you defeat Baby Bowser, the castle will be
under fire from the Shroobs. The alien attack will continue as the game
changes to the present time.
==============================================================================
5.02] PEACH'S CASTLE [0502]
==============================================================================
As the game switches to the present time, you will take control of Mario and
Luigi. Professor E. Gadd will say that the Princess used his new time machine
to venture into the past with two Toad bodyguards. Toadsworth is his usual
self and worries himself until he faints. A Toad asks Mario to go to
Toadworth's room to retrive a Refreshroom.
This is where you can learn the basics of the game. The top screen is used as
a map. The little Mario face shows your current location and the hand that's
pointing to the room in the bottom left corner is your destination. First,
let's explore a bit.
Go through the doorway to the left to enter a hallway. Hit all the boxes to
find a Mushroom and some coins. The right hallway contains another Mushroom
and a few coins. The room right below the throne room has a save point in it.
Jump up and hit it to save your game. There is a Heart Block here which is
used to restore your HP. The two stairwells hold Mushrooms and more coins. Go
down to enter the courtyard. Go to the right to another part of the
courtyard, then go up into the room. Jump up to find a 1-Up and coins. Return
to the courtyard and go left this time. Continue left through the door and
you'll enter Toadsworth's Room. Hit the block to get a Refreshroom.
Mario will return to the throne room and revive Toadsworth. As that happens,
E. Gadd's time machine plummets on screen. The machine is totally busted,
though. Everyone rushes over to it, thinking the Princess is inside, but a
monster jumps out! Luigi runs away, so it's just Mario fighting this guy!
The Junior Shrooboid is really easy and serves as another training battle.
Toadsworth will refresh Mario's memory on how to fight battles. Press A to
jump and right before you land on its head, press A again to deal extra
damage. Its spinning attack is easy to dodge. Jump when it approaches you to
dodge. If you jump a little bit earlier, you can counterattack by jumping on
its head.
Once the beast is defeated, the battle will end. Mario will gain a level! Use
the bonus meter to raise a stat. To be honest, you should only use the bonus
on HP or Attack.
When Junior Shrooboid is defeated, a loud crash is heard in the courtyard.
Mario and Luigi rush over to see what the problem is. E. Gadd says that a
time hole has appeared and can be used to travel in the past. Mario says that
he'll use these to rescue the princess! Mario and Luigi head into the time
hole which leads them into the past, hoping to find traces of the princess.
==============================================================================
5.03] HOLLIJOLLI VILLAGE [0503]
==============================================================================
Mario and Luigi arrive at the outskirts of Hollijolli village. Before the
time hole disappears, a little guy hops out of the time hole right on top of
Luigi. He introduces himself as Stuffwell, a special suitcase invented by
Professor E. Gadd to aid the two on their journey. He will go over the basics
of the gameplay, as well as give you information on the surrounding area and
such.
Save at the save point ahead and head to the next area. Stuffwell will teach
you how to jump here! Press A for Mario to jump and B for Luigi. Jump up the
ledges and hit all the blocks to get 2 Mushrooms, coins, and a 1-Up. When you
head over the the gaps, Stuffwell will explain how if you hit A and B
simultaneously, both plumbers will jump.
With that said, jump over the gaps to the colored blocks. the red M blocks can
only be hit by Mario, and thesame goes for Luigi and the green L blocks. Hit
them all with the designated characters for some coins, and the path will
open. Head up the stairs to the next area.
In this small field, a Toad will fall to the ground and tell the adults that
Hollijolli Village is being attacked. Not long after, some UFO's will come to
the scene and abduct the poor Toad. Mario and Luigi flee as the spaceships
head to the village.
Here you will encounter your first random enemy! Stuffwell advises that you
jump on the little spinning mushroom. When you jump on the little guy, you'll
start the battle. This is another training battle, except that when it's
Luigi's turn, all of the commands will be used with the B button, as opposed
to the A button and Mario.
Once you defeat them, the battle will end. Take out all of the Shrooblets
(that's their name) on the field. Continue up the ramps and defeat all of the
enemies on the field. Once the bad guys are done (Luigi should have gained a
level), proceed into the town.
The UFOs will be attacking the town, and then they will leave. The first
house holds 3 Mushrooms and a coin. The southern house has 3 blue coins and
regular coins. The center house holds a save point, so save your game. Head
to the house at the top right of the desolate town to find the mayor stuck in
his chimney. Jump under him to send him out of the chimney to the outside.
Unfortunately, he will fall right into the alien invaders, the Shroobs. Head
out of the house and try to save the mayor!
Unfortunately, you will be too late and the UFOs will abduct him. The Shroobs
left behind will confront the two of you and set up a battle! First off, let
me tell you that you can't win this battle. The Shroobs will launch a UFO on
the top screen with a timer. When it reaches zero, the battle ends.
The Shroobs have easy attacks to dodge. They will run up in the middle of the
screen and point their gun. If the gun shines, then it will shoot at Mario.
If it twirls the gun, then it'll shoot at Luigi. Attack them until the battle
abruptly ends.
==============================================================================
5.04] KOOPA CRUISER [0504]
==============================================================================
The tide will switch over to the babies now. Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, and Baby
Peach are all in a room until Shroobs start to attack the cruiser. Baby
Bowser tells all officials to report to the ship's bridge, and that includes
you two.
Exit the room and walk up to the Koopa for a lesson on jumping. Press X for
Mario and Y for Luigi. Simple. Jump over the crates and hit the blocks for a
Mushroom and a coin. The M and L blocks hold coins, a Mushroom, a 1-Up, and a
Mushroom Drop. In the next area, grab the coins from the block and jump up
the crates to get to the other side. Save at the save point and head to the
bridge.
The Koopa Cruiser will continue to be attacked by the Shroobs. Unfortunately
for the aliens, the Koopa Cannon is too much for them. The ship spots Mario
and Luigi, and they land in an effort to help the duo out. You will manage to
take out one of them automatically, so you only have to deal with two in the
battle. With the babies, head to where you fought the Shroobs. Time for some
payback!
In this battle, Toadsworth will provide the babies with a Bros. Item. These
items can be used to attack your opponents and require quick thinking and
button mashing. He will give you a green shell, which is the easiest to use.
Have Baby Mario use it. Press X to kick it and it will bounce off the enemy
and go to Baby Luigi. When it reaches him, press Y to kick it back at the
enemy. It will ricochet to Baby Mario, and you will press X. The Shroobs have
the same attacks, so there should be no worries. Keep going back and forth
until the Shroobs are dead.
==============================================================================
5.05] BOWSER'S CASTLE [0505]
==============================================================================
Baby Bowser and his crew will be under attack by more Shroobs after recieving
a transmission from Princess Shroob. In this dire situation, he is forced to
retreat to his castle. Of course, something bad has to happen and the adults
get split up from the rest of the gang. Save at the nearby save point and
start exploring the castle.
The two blocks at the start of the screen holds 2 Mushrooms and 8 Green
Shells. Go across the bridge and head down. The next bridge has a block with
a 1-Up in it. Go back and take the other path to find 4 Green Shells, and
head into the next area.
First off, take out all the enemies (you will find Goombas for the first time
here) and snatch all the items on the bottom floor. You may notice a small "X"
on the ground in the top right part of the area. Don't worry about it for now.
Return to the entrance to find a staircase. Go up them and walk across the
narrow walkway to the other side.
When you reach the red platform, the adults and babies will meet up.
Stuffwell will teach you how to carry around the babies, also known as
piggyback. Simply walk over to the babies when in control of the adults to
pick them up, and vice versa if in control of the babies. When piggyback,
press X or Y to throw the babies. This is very useful to cover high ground.
Afterwards, you can control the adults by pressing A or B and the babies by
pressing X or Y. You will come across blue switches throughout the game. Walk
on it when all four players are together to activate it. once the lesson is
over, walk across the platform and up the stairs. Use your newly learned
technique and step on the blue switch with all four players to open the door.
The next area is simple to pass through. Press X or Y next to the ledge to
launch the babies on top. As the babies, hit the warp block to transport the
adults to your location. Step on the group switch to open the door and head
through. There is a wall to the left with a small hole in it. The adults
can't head in, but babies can. Control the babies through the hole and hit
the blocks to get some coins and a 1-Up. Return to the adults and collect the
other items here.
The next area requires you to split up again. Throw the babies up on the high
ledge and save at the save block. Regroup using the warp pipe and throw the
babies up to the next ledge. Have them hit the purple Event Block. That
lowers the platform to the side, allowing the adults to get up. Regroup and
step on the blue switch to open the door. You will meet up with Kamek, who's
getting annoyed at the bros' tresspassing. As punishment, he forces a Boo and
some other enemies on you.
Use this as practice for piggyback attacks. To jump with Mario, press A right
before you land on the enemy to send the baby in the air, then press X as he
comes down on the baddy. Same goes for Luigi/Baby Luigi, except use B and Y
to utilize the attack. Practice using Bros. Items as well to defeat the
enemies. Once the coast is clear, head up the stairs and across the bridge.
Watch out for Boom Guys and collect the green shell. Proceed across the
series of bridges to the next location. Step in the warp pipe ahead with all
four guys to head to another part of the castle.
Save here and go right. Grab the green shells and toss the babies up on the
ledge. Use them to enter the tunnel and hit the Event Block, which lowers a
bridge near the adults. Regroup and cross over to the blue switch. Step on it
and enter the opened door.
Once again, you'll have to use the babies to get to higher ground. Throw them
up on the ledge and have them hit the Event Block once they enter the tunnel.
This makes another bridge near the adults. As the adults, cross over to the
multi-colored blocks. These are Simultaneous Blocks. You must line up Mario
and Luigi under each one.
When you hit the solid one, the clear block next to it will become solid.
Quickly hit that one with the bro under it. This will lower a platform for the
babies. As the little tikes, jump up the platforms and activate the
Simultaneous Blocks.
Jump across the platforms ahead and exit to find anotherpair of Simultaneous
Blocks. Hit them with the babies to raise a bridge for the adults. Use the
adults to regroup with the babies and go across the newlymade bridge. Step on
the blue switch and enter the next room.
Ah, the last room of the castle! Going straight leads you to a block with a
blue coin. Go to the left past the cage after collecting it to find a Shine
Block. Throw the babies on the ledge and have them enter the room. It's pitch
black in the room, but have no fear! Use the adults to hit the Shine Block.
Have Mario hit it when it's red and Luigi when it's green. Hit the block to
light up the room with the babies in it, revealing a narrow bridge above a
spike pit.
Start to walk across the bridge. If the light goes out, hit the Shine Block
with the designated character. If you ever hit the block with the wrong
character, a fireball will shoot out and hit the babies, sending them to the
beginning of the bridge. Keep doing this until the babies are on the other
end. Exit the room and drop down in the cage. Open the chest to find Shard #1.
This shard is a piece of the Cobalt Star. It is used to power up E. Gadd's
time machine, so it must be useful. With the shard in hand, you will return
to Peach's Castle.
==============================================================================
5.06] PEACH'S CASTLE [0506]
==============================================================================
You will appear near the courtyard. You can go and talk to the professor now,
but take a gander at the new shop open, which is located in the room under
the right stairwell. Take a visit and stock up on some equipment.
Afterwards, head on to the throne room and talk to E. Gadd. After further
inspection, the star shard will create another time hole. The bros also
learn that there is a connection between the shards and the Shroobs, and that
collecting more shards will surely defeat the invaders.
E. Gadd will also give you a badge as Stuffwell teaches you how to use them.
Once you're ready, exit the throne room and save/heal, then head to the new
time portal, which leads to Toadwood Forest.
==============================================================================
5.07] TOADWOOD FOREST [0507]
==============================================================================
Woo, we're in a nice forest now! Better than some murky old castle. From the
starting point, save and go to the only open path. Here, you will find some
tree stumps. You can use the babies and throw them into the stumps, in which
you'll find nice items or even enemies.
First off, collect all the items on ground level, then throw the babies in the
left and middle trees. You will find coins and a Mushroom Drop. The right
trunk holds a Koopleon, so go in and take it out. Once the area is salvaged,
continue north to the next area.
You will encounter one of Peach's bodyguards strapped to a tree. The poor
Toad will explain that that trees' energy is being drained away and used to
power the Shroob UFO's. This energy, Vim, is transported to a factory deep in
the forest. He asks that you stop the transplanting process. Before he can
finish, a UFO shoots a beam at him, turning the unfortunate Toad into a
mushroom. Anyways, on ho.
The tree up ahead holds coins and a Super Mushroom, so make sure to grab it.
Go right to the next area for more tree trunk fun. Grab the Fire Flowers from
the blocks and chuck the babies into the first hole. You will find an Elasto-
Piranha, so take it out. Take out the Boo Guys at ground level, then collect
the coins and Green Shells in the next tree trunk. Head down the ramps to the
next area of the forest. Trees block the northern path, so go down the steps
and collect the 1-Up before going left.
You will find a series of small tree trunks and empty blocks. The trunks are
too high for the babies to be thrown into, but the one in the lower left
corner is accessible by the toddlers. Throw them in to enter a large cave.
With the babies, defeat the enemies and hit the fire blocks to make fire
shoot up out of the tall trunks and into the empty blocks.
Do a lap around the cave, hitting all the fire out of the blocks and into the
empty ones. When all the empty blocks are filled with fire, use the adults to
hit them. One by one, they will fall into a large block in the center of the
tree trunk ring. Once they are all inside the large block, hit it to send a
huge fireball at the trees, burning them down and giving you access to the
northern path.
Regroup using the warp pipe and head past the burnt trees to the next area.
Enter the warp pipe to teleport to another part of the forest. Save here and
head to the next part of the woods. The right trunk is empty, but throw the
babies into the one to the left for coins and Unarmed Jeans. Take the
northern path. The path ahead leading to Vim Factory is blocked off by some
water. You will have to take the right path instead.
This next part is a little challenging, yet neat. Collect the coins at the
top and throw the babies in the stump. You will find a block with arrows on
them. Control the adults and have them stand on the platfrom next to the
spike pit. As the babies, you must move the platfrom across the spike pit?
How? The arrows on the block will change every second or two. When the arrow
that you want the platform to move appears, hit it. Sor example, if an arrow
poining right appears, jump and hit the block to have the platform with the
adults on it move to the right. You must hit the block again to stop it.
With that said, have the platform move right to the first path. Stop the
platform and have the adults get off. Jump up the stairs to the left to find a
Wallet Badge, then descend the stairs to the right and go across the bridge.
Use the warp pipe to reunite the gang. Have the babies explore the tree trunk
to find coins and Green Shells, then return to the center of the area to find
Fire Flowers on a pillar to the right. Go under the large totem pole thingy,
and jump with Mario. With Mario in the air, press X to have Baby Mario jump
off his shoulders and hit the block.
With that done, four Simultaneous Blocks will appear. Hit them one by one
until the totem pole is activated. The next area holds another spike pit.
Throw the babies in the trunk to the left, then control the platform (with the
adults on it) to the right. When you reach the yellow platform, use the adults
to jump over it. When you reach the Event Block, hit it to lower a platform
next to the tree trunk. Now you can use the babies to enter the next area and
reunite.
Collect the Mushroom, 1-Up and various coins in the next area. Do the same
thing with the Simultaneous Blocks as you did before to activate the second
totem pole. With the two activated, a platform appears at the entrance of Vim
Factory. Go south to the next area, which is one giant spike pit.
Various platforms are found above the giant pit. They hold coins, Green
Shells, a 1-Up Super, Fire Flowers, and Wild Trousers. Use the directional
block in the tree trunk to navigate the bros around on the platform. Collect
all the items, then go down to find a platform at the bottom right corner,
which leads back near the entrance of Vim Factory. Go up to the entrance and
jump on the platform to enter the factory.
==============================================================================
5.08] VIM FACTORY [0508]
==============================================================================
The first thing to do when you enter the factory is to enter the warp pipe,
which leads you deeper in the factory. Save here and step on the blue switch
to enter a new area.
This area is guarded by Hammer Bros. They have been controlled by the helmets
on their heads, which were made by the Shrooms so that they can guard the
factory. Fortunately for us, their L33T speak makes for a very entertaining
skit. In fact, the scene with the brainwashed Hammer Bros. is most definitely
one of the best in the entire game. Fortunately for them, the adults are taken
away by...a giant nostril machine?! Now it's up to the babies to defeat these
goons, and it won't be a walk in the park. Err, factory...
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
BOSS: Hammer Bros. HP: 100
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+

The Hammer Bros. are the first boss of the game, and they aren't tough,
considering you only have the babies to fight them. Their main attack
consists of one bro hitting the other one, which is curled into a ball.
He is flung at one of the babies. Jump with whomever is being targeted
at. Make sure to jump a tad earlier to counterattack and deal some
damage to the attacker.

Their second attack isn't used as much when both are alive. One Hammer
Bro will throw numerous hammers at the babies. If the top of the hammer
falls off, then do not jump; it will pass over your head. If the weapon
stays in tact, then jump to avoid getting hit by the it. Determining
who is going to get hit is easy; just see which baby the hammer is
heading towards.

These guys have a lot of HP compared to the toddlers, but the fight
should now take a long time. If you counterattack nearly every turn in
fact, the battle should end quite quickly. This is a great opportunity
to use some Bros. Items, as well as test out Fire Flowers if you
haven't already. You should have plenty of the items by now, so keep
using them. When only one Hammer Bro stands, the battle is a lot
easier, so start to normally attack and conserve your Bros. Items.

+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
When you defeat the Hammer Bros, their brainwashing helmets will break off.
Feeling guilty for their actions, the two will reward the babies with hammers
and teach you how to use them! Press R to switch to your hammer, then press X
for Baby Mario to slam the hammer to the ground. It is used to break boxes
and activate switches. Press Y for Baby Luigi to hop on Baby Mario's
shoulders. Press Y again to send the pair spinning underground. Now you can
travel underground; great for tunneling under gates.
You can use this technique, Baby Drill, to uncover beans. Drill underground
near an "X" mark on the ground, then press Y under the "X" mark to come up and
uncover a bean. With the new hammers in hand, step on the yellow switch to the
left and enter the doorway.
You'll have to put your hammers to the test in the next couple rooms. Baby
drill under the gate to enter a large room. First off, the gated area in the
lower left corner holds some Mushrooms, so grab them. Head to the gated area
at the top right corner and drill under it. Hop up on the stairs and go down
around the edge of the room. Drop down into the closed area and hit the
switch on the wall with your hammer.
Jump up the stairs and go left this time. A gap will be in your way, so jump
with both babies to the ledge across. Drop down into the closed-off area
immediately after crossing the gap and hit the switch. Drill under the gate
and jump up the stairs. When on the ledge again, drop down to ground level.
The two switches activated some ledges at the top of the room. Jump up the
ledges and enter the small doorway, which leads into the air ducts.
The southern path leads to a dead end. Go down the path anyways because
you'll find some Refreshing Herbs there. Go back and head left this time.
Follow the path until you find an enemy. When you battle with the Spiny
Shroopa, the Hammer Bros. will return to teach you how to attack with your
hammers.
Their spiny carapace will damage you if you jump on it. To attack, press the
designated button for whomever is attacking (remember to select Hammer). When
the baby holds the hammer above their head, press the designated button when
the hammer shakes to deal extra damage. When the Spiny Shroopa hops forwards
to attack, hold down the designated button for whomever is getting attacked.
Release it to send the hammer crashing down on it.
Alrighty, once that's down, go down the first path to find a Mushroom Drop,
then take the second path to get out of the air duct. Drill under the left
gate in the next room to find coins, Refreshing Herbs, a bean, and Unarmed
Jeans. Take the right path to enter a large room.
There is a huge tree in the middle of the room. Smash the four lightbulbs
surrounding the tree to make the tree sneeze out the adults! With the adults
in hand, use them to throw the babies on the ledge in the corner. Hit the
switch to open the door, then head through to return to where you fought the
Hammer Bros.
Head through the door and defeat all of the Lakitufos and Dr. Shroobs. Grab
the Cannonballers from the block and enter the doorway. Step into the warp
pipe, and when you emerge, save your game. Snag the Refreshing Herbs in the
left side of the room and use the babies to drill under the gate. Hit the
switch with your hammer and go through the newly opened door. You can use the
warp pipe in the next room to regroup.
Send the babies onto the upper ledge and have them hit the switch once they
enter the room. This will lower a force field, allowing the adults the
progress on the lower floor. Now use the Simultaneous Blocks to create a
bridge for the babies to cross.
On the other side, do the same with the nextswitch and the Simultaneous Blocks
to clear your path. Exit the small roomwith the babies to end up on a ledge
above the adults. Go to the other sideand hit the two switches to open two
doors.
Head through the left door and head down the hallway. Go through the doorway
to the left. The strange block up ahead is a 4-Bros. Block. Hit it (you need
to use Baby Mario for extra height) to start the game. Each bro will stand
under a block. When the light travels to a block, hit it with the bro that's
under it. Keep it up to earn coins. Anyways, head back to the hallway. Take
the right path this time and grab the Cannonballers and Fire Flowers. Enter
the doorway to the right.
This next room will hold a similar puzzle like the ones in Toadwood Forest.
Use the babies to get to the upper ledge and enter the room. Use the
direction block to control where the adults go on the platform. Move them
across the electrical field to the platform in the center.
Use the adults to hit the event block to raise up the bridges for the babies.
Stay where you are though, and use the platform to guide the adults to the
other side, while collecting items on the way. Now use the Simultaneous Blocks
to clear the path for the babies. Regroup and step on the blue switch.
Here we go, save and prepare for a boss battle. When you're ready, step on
the blue switch and head through the door. You'll find a large caterpillar.
From the looks of it, the large bug is drinking a seemingly endless supply of
Vim out of a glass. The babies run over and knock the glass of Vim over. Not
good, now the thing is pissed.
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
BOSS: Swiggler HP: 250
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Swiggler is a lot tougher than the previous boss battle; he has a lot
more HP and he's accompanied by two Dr. Shroobs. Let's first talk about
Swiggler's attacks. Swiggler will sometimes shoot out purple clouds at
the bros. Smash them with your hammer (you'll have to hit two) to avoid
taking damage.

If Swiggler takes a gulp of Vim, then two UFO's will rush onto the
scene. They will shoot laser beams at the bros. Carefully jump over the
blasts as they come your way. The lower UFO will attack Luigi and the
higher one will go after Mario. Sometimes they switch, so watch out for
that simple note.

The glass of Vim is the key to winning the battle. Do not attack
Swiggler when he's red: it'll deal little damage and he will just
counterattack with a shockwave. The Dr. Shroobs will hold items in
