1. Introduction
- Why I wrote the guide (1.1)
Well you?re reading my guide which either means you?re stalking me or you?re
interested in the character Noxus. Now before I begin, this is a guide for a NON
Shadow Freeze Noxus, if you Shadow Freeze then there is no point in you reading
this guide, and to clarify the Shadow Freeze IS a glitch like it or not. If you
choose to use it fine, but that doesn?t make it any less of a glitch so don?t
pass it of as something that?s supposed to be there. It does take skill to
perform and if you want to do it fine, but this a guide for those who choose not
to. The reason I?m writing this guy is because there are only a few Non-SF Noxus
users left on Metroid Prime: Hunters, and there?s little to no guides that don?t
focus on Shadow Freezing, a Non-SF Noxus can be just as good as a Shadow Freezer
but with lack of support it?s unlikely. So I?m writing this to give that support
to Non-SF players.
Now that?s out of the way for those of you who don?t Noxus is a creature known
as a Vhozon, a species of creature native to the icy planet of Vho. Vhozon (Or
at least Noxus) have a very strong sense of justice and Noxus? role in the game
is an attempt to keep the ?ultimate power? out of the hands of evil beings. But
Vhozon believe in a harsh justice and Noxus seems to be a shoot first, ask
question later sort of character otherwise him and Samus would have probably
wound up allies.
- How to unlock Noxus (1.2)
Now to unlock the awesome character (Noxus) you must first complete the first
visits to the ?Celestial Archives? and ?Alinos? the first two areas of the game.
Afterwards you unlock two new areas the ?VDO? or ?Vesper Defence Outpost? and
?Arcterra? and it?s the latter you?ll want to go too. Literally two rooms into
Arcterra (Which is a frozen planet by the way) you witness a scene of Noxus and
Trace (A different Bounty Hunter) battling it out in a pretty large room (SIC
Transit arena in multiplayer). Although not long afterwards Noxus spots you and
basically attacks you. Simply keep your distance a spam Missiles and Power Beam
shots and Noxus will go down, get too close and you?ll get frozen. Although
beware Trace shooting out you as well. Noxus has two scans for your ?Logbook?
which are ?Noxus? (His humanoid/bipedal form) and ?Vhoscythe? his alternate
mode. After the battle ends (With the defeating of Noxus) you?ll have unlocked
him for use in multiplayer.
2. Noxus, Vhoscythe and Basic Strategies
- Noxus (2.1)
Well since you?re still reading you must be planning on using Noxus so now we?ll
cover the basics. Now the most important thing to remember is ?Noxus is blue?.
As long as you remember that you?ll be fine? yeah of course you will. But in all
seriousness, Noxus is about freezing. His main weapon the ?Judicator? is known
for its power in Noxus? hands? well gun. On all the other characters a fully
charged Judicator will launch out three shots at a time and all Judicator shots
bounce, making it perfect for the corridors in places like ?Ice Hive? and ?Fuel
Stack?, oh and the Alt-tunnels in ?Data Shrine?. It?s damn destructive there XD
But back on track, whilst Noxus can still use the uncharged bouncing shot, when
Noxus? Judicator is fully charged it?s completely different. First of all when
release it makes a white cloud like thing in front of Noxus that last about a
second. Second, anything in that small cloud gets encase in ice or in lesser
term, frozen. And when you?re frozen you can?t do ANYTHING. You?re completely
immobile and defenceless. I imagine you can already see why Noxus is so deadly;
once you?ve frozen your foe you can do anything to them? well within the limits
of the game. Now Noxus entire fighting style is really based around freezing
your opponents and pummelling them with whatever you have while they?re
?chilling out? See what I did there? Yeah I no I?m not funny :( Anyways, as I?m
sure you?ve figured out this can be used for some awesome mind games against
your foe but the Judicator might be Noxus? special toy but there are numerous
other weapons to abuse, but I?ll get to that later. To be a Non-Shadow Freeze
Noxus you need a lot of strategy because you?re going to have to be within a
couple feet of your opponent to freeze them.
- Vhoscythe (2.2)
Many people disregard it as useless, but the Vhoscythe is far from that.
Although it is damn slow, don?t try running with it unless you?ve got cover, or
you just cause some serious damage to someone. Basically the Vhoscythe is a
spinning top (Beyblade XD) with an extendable scythe, which actually has an
infinite attack length as long as you keep the button held down. From about
three foot away from the Vhoscythe is the length of the scythe (BIG SCYTHES FTW)
and as long as it?s out and you?re spinning nothing can touch you from any side.
Well weapons can but physical contact is impossible. It?s a great way to stop
?Morphball spammers? (Although I?d personally opt for freezing them and
punishing them for there speedy ways lol) and it can make people back away,
really useful for setting up long distance attacks. Also when the scythe is out,
the Vhoscythe drops through the air instantly, this leads to a lot of funny
games on the ?Silo Elevator? at ?Fuel Stack? and is useful for running from the
top floor(s). The Vhoscythe also makes very odd turns, making it incredible for
figure eights, and swerving about which in turn helps you avoid getting shot at.
Although a major disadvantage is any obstruction on the ground, even if about an
inch high, will stop the Vhoscythe in its tracks so be careful when running.
- Basic Strategies (2.3)
Now I?m sure we all know the most basic strategy (Freeze, shoot, freeze shoot,
rinse and repeat) but that won?t always win matches. So to begin with here are
some basic tips:
- Try to force your opponent into a corner, and then attempt to freeze them,
this way they can?t escape.
- Don?t charge the Judicator at a distance, only do it when you?re positive you
can get a freeze off, this way you can still use other weapons to fight from a
distance.
- Chasing your opponent with the Judicator charged will almost always make them
run away. When that happens, swap to a weapon to deal with them appropriately
and hammer them (Power Beam & Volt Driver against Biped runners, Magmaul &
Battlehammer against Alt-form runners).
- Know the environment, the short cuts and were the health and ammo spawn. If
you control the health and ammo your opponent cannot win, at least no against
Noxus. If a freeze ever fails to be fatal it?ll be near fatal so if you can stop
them getting health you?re guaranteed to kill next time. And on that same basis,
if they survive a freeze, swap to a different weapon and attack them as they
run.
- Non-SF Noxus best arenas are Ice Hive, Sanctorus Incubation Vault and Fuel
Stack.
- Non-SF Noxus worst arenas are Weapon?s Complex, Headshot, Alinos Gateway and
Oubliette.
- Zaraze is cooler than everyone else :D
3. Weapons
- Power Beam (3.1)
The Power Beam is about the third quickest weapon in the game. It fires
incredibly fast and it has infinite ammo, therefore it?s incredibly useful
earlier in the game when people have no ammo and later on if you run out of
ammo. Regular shots do 6 damage, charged shots do around 30-40. And Headshots do
slightly more (8 & 34-44 I believe). Now the first thing to remember is DO NOT
underestimate the Power Beam. Early on in the game it?s incredibly useful for
pressuring your opponents, and it can very quickly drain their health to low
levels before they even have their Affinity weapons. At close distances the
Power Beam is practically impossible to dodge which makes it a good follow up to
a freeze and it?s great for picking people off at short-medium distances if they
attempt to escape. Although the damage whilst it builds up quickly are minimal
in a small number of shots.
- Missiles (3.2)
At about 30 damage per shot (40+ for a charged shot) Missiles are by no means
weak; they?re great for finishing foes with about the level of health off, or
for doing a chunk of damage whilst you swap to a faster weapon like the Power
Beam. The problem with Missiles is aiming them, they?re not awfully fast, they
aren?t slow either but they?re not speeding across the landscape (Well they do
in smaller arenas). Missiles are best at medium-med/long range and they?re godly
in corridors like the one in Combat Hall. Another thing to note is they have a
pretty big ?splash radius? that means even if the missiles miss, the explosion
could still do damage if you?re within a few feet of where the missile hit.
Apart from that I?d avoid using them unless you?re talented with them.
- Volt Driver (3.3)
Go back and read the Power Beam section? done? Now imagine everything said
there, except the damage gets a boost, the rate of fire is increased at the cost
of it requiring ammo. The Volt Driver is basically the Power Beam on steroids,
you get a power boost (A couples points really adds up with the speed) and a
speed boost and basically you?re dealing an awful lot of damage and it?s pretty
hard to avoid. The problem is it consumes ammo like it can?t get enough, and
unless you stock up you?ll run out fast.
- Battlehammer (3.4)
BIG GREEN ARCING BALLS OF DOOM basically describes this weapon. Weavel-users
will know this well. Whilst it takes a hell of a lot of practise to aim it
decently, the Battlehammer has a constant rate of fire (By holding the L button
instead of charging, it launches another shot every time it fires a shot, so a
continuous stream of green blobs basically) and it?s pretty fast, plus it has a
decent splash radius. The problems been it doesn?t do a lot of damage from a
single shots, and it consumes ammo more than anything else.
- Judicator (3.5)
I already gave you a basic description before, basically the Judicator is a
weapon that lunches bouncing blue ?lines? that deals about 22 damage per hit and
it?s impossible to dodge in small corridors like in Ice Hive. It?s also Noxus
?Affinity? weapon which means his charged shot has a different effect to other
hunters, which is the freeze as I covered earlier. Abuse it in closed spaces
with that bouncing, and when you can pull it off, go for a freeze.
- Magmaul (3.6)
Imagine a ball of SUPER HEATED FLAMING MAGAM OF DEATH! That would be the
description of the Magmaul *Nods* Basically it launches balls of magma that
bounce off of walls, roll for a bit and then sit for a few seconds before
disappearing. They deal a fair amount of damage per hit and even more when
they?re charged so getting skilled with this weapon is a must. It?s also the
best anti-Alt weapon in the game. Alt-form spammers hate people who abuse this,
and if someone charges at you in Alt this is the way to counter, Battlehammer is
they?re at a distance. Although keep in mind that your Magmaul shots hurt anyone
they hit, if it hits a wall and bounces back at you, you will get hurt.
- Shock Coil (3.7)
Blue lightning is blue :D Basically the Shock Coil is a continuous stream of
electricity that as long as it connects, it does damage. And in a matter of
seconds that damage multiplies ridiculously. If you?re getting Shock Coiled then
you have to move about a lot. Put simply, if you can keep it connecting it?s a
hell of a powerful weapon. But most people will change into their Alternate
forms to escape it. Although Weavel?s alternate mode the Half Turret gets
DESTROYED by the Shock Coil, remember that. Apart from that it?s not a weapon
that really needs to be mastered unless you use Sylux.
- Imperialist (3.8)
Zaraze: ?Where the hell did Smurf go??
Elder: ?No idea I thi-?
*Red beam hits Elder in head. Elder dies*
Zaraze: ?Holy crap?
Smurf: ?Boom Headshot?
That describes the Imperialist really. It?s a weapon for sniping, and it has a
scope that zooms in. When zoomed the thing does hell loads of damage and if it
this you in the head you DIE! ?OMG HE SAID DIE!? but in all seriousness you have
to learn to use the Imperialist. Apart from the fact it?s spammed beyond belief
in most matches, it?s also an awesome counter to spammers, Shock Coilers and
opposing Noxus which you do need to counter. And a common misconception is you
can dodge the Imperialist. YOU CAN?T. Your opponent can miss or they can hit.
Apart from that dodging is impossible. When they hit L, if you?re where the beam
will be you die then. Simple.
- Omega Cannon (3.9)
*Ecstasy and Sharp fire Omega Cannons at the same time. Both of them die*
*Zaraze wins*
Zaraze: lol you pwnt each other XD
Another amusing example of how a weapon works (Although this example is actually
an event that did happen, god it was hilarious lol). The Omega Cannon is only
obtainable in the arena Oubliette, it only has ONE ammo (One shot) and it fires
as a big white ball. What happens? It goes on until it hits something and then
?BOOM EXPLOSION EVERYONE DIES?. If you aren?t behind cover, you die. Noxus is
pretty bad in Oubliette so I won?t really cover it, but the Omega Cannon is pure
devastation when unleashed.
4. Advanced Strategies
- Imperialist Freezing (4.1)
Think awesome sniper weapon against a frozen target whose head cannot move. I
think you see where I?m going, if you want to get anywhere as a Noxus you have
to learn how to do this. Right after a freeze, swap to the Imperialist and zoom
on the head and well ?Boom?. If done right then every freeze is fatal. I myself
was never good at it (Yes that contradicts my statement about having to learn it
to be awesome but it helps like hell and I really wish I had been able to do it
lol) but you really do want to practise this. If there?s another Noxus in the
game this is also a fun way of stealing their kills.
- Volt Freezing (4.2)
The same as Imp/Freezing except you?re using the Volt Driver. Rapid fire rate, a
fair amount of damage against a frozen target with an unmoveable head, again you
see where it?s going. If done right it?s a guaranteed kill. Even if they thaw
they?re doomed to die seconds later. This is another strategy Noxus user should
learn and I really advise you try it, especially in Sanctorus, Noxus? best
arena.
- Weapon Combinations (4.3)
Here?s some fun weapon mix & matches to try:
- Power Beam/Volt Driver/Magmaul/Shock Coil + Imperialist
Basically you use a close range weapon to deal an awful lot of damage, then when
they attempt to run you finish them with the Imperialist, provided they don?t
health you should easily destroy them with this method.
- Missiles/Battlehammer + Judicator
A lesser used strategy but it?ll work once or twice, basically fight at pretty
close range but with a weapon that might damage you. Intelligent players often
get closer so you hurt yourself more than you hurt them, when they do you swap
to the Judicator and freeze them for the kill. Although intelligent players may
also see through that, so don?t try to abuse it more than once or twice per
game.
- Judicator + Shock Coil
Shock Freezing isn?t awfully reliable but I?ve seen it work so you could try it
one day. Basically you freeze, then start Shock Coiling them.
- Escape Strategies
You getting owned badly and you need to escape but how? First of all if your
opponent is relatively close and has half decent aim with the Power
Beam/Missiles/Volt Driver/Magmaul then don?t use the Vhoscythe unless you like
to die. A good method is to charge the Judicator, they should back off, and then
you make a break for it. Also just in random patterns and try to get to cover.
Or give up all your ammo in a mass attack to try and either kill them or at
least really damage them, so they try to escape then kill them and while they?re
dead run for health. If you?re in an arena with multiple floors, then use the
Vhoscythe to drop from the top floors at high speed, great for running but in
places with infinite drops be very careful when abusing this.
5. Noxus VS {Insert Hunter}
- Noxus VS Samus (5.1)
The queen of spammers, basically Samus is well known for been a ?cheap
character?. Whether you share my opinion in that as long as it?s not hacking or
glitching anything is fair, or whether you consider her cheap is your choice but
dealing with one can be hard. First of all get as close as possible, this will
help negate Samus damn annoying affinity Missiles, which when charged home-in.
At long distance they are damn hard to deal with, at medium they?re still a pain
but when you?re close you have a chance. The other important fact is to be very
weary of the Morphball. It?s fast and damn hard to hit if they have good
control, if you can?t freeze it then use the Magmaul. They also have a habit of
running with it, in which case use Magmaul/Missiles to finish them off. Samus?
best arenas are Combat Hall, Alinos Perch and Oubliette and her worst would be
Fuel Stack (Yay).
- Noxus VS Kanden (5.2)
The big yellow bug dude. Kanden can be a real pain, his affinity Volt Driver
homes in when charged and if it hits you it?ll distort your vision. And due to
the Volt Driver?s uncharged power this means Kanden is lethal at all ranges
although at really long distances you can win by sniping. Never go for the
freeze unless they have neither the Volt Driver nor a more general freeze
counter (Imperialist). Kanden?s alternate form the Stinglarva is easy to handle,
it?s slow and whilst it?s bombs are a pain it?s easily pwnt with the Magmaul and
most weapons really. Kanden?s best levels would probably be Combat Hall &
Transfer Lock and his worst been massive arenas like Fuel Stack (Yay) and Alinos
Gateway.
- Noxus VS Spire (5.3)
It?s either a living rock, or a walking volcano but Spire is like tank.
Basically he?s slow but very powerful. Spire?s affinity is the Magmaul which
when charged sets people on fire, but if he hits himself then h shall burn too.
So if you want to screw a Spire, stick next to them so they can?t Magmaul spam,
plus you have a good chance of freezing. Do NOT abuse the Vhoscythe against
Spire-users unless you want to die, and remember the bouncing effect of the
Magmaul, or watch your step in lesser terms. Spire?s alternate mode is the
Dialanche, a large rock with 2 spiky rock plates attached that it can spin
around itself to attack, and they do quite a fair bit of damage. Plus the
Dialanche can climb up walls so try not to lose it. Luckily it?s awfully slow so
if you keep a distance it?s easy to handle. Spire?s best arenas would be Combat
Hall, Processor Core and Alinos Gateway (Damned lava immunity) and his worst
would be Ice Hive (Yay) and Oubliette.
- Noxus VS Trace (5.4)
?I is going to snipe you?
That?s what he said. Trace is a sniper, and his affinity is (Shockingly
/sarcasm) the Imperialist. Anywhere large and open with good sniping points is
an arena for Trace, and good snipers are a pain since you?ll never get to freeze
them. Try out-sniping them, or in worst case scenario Vhoscythe-Spamming until
you can work out a plan. Oh and his affinity give Trace a translucent cloak (He
becomes vividly invisible basically) which against the right backgrounds can
really make him hard to find. His alternate mode is the Tripod? Triskelion that
is a three legged red spider like thing that can lunge about, basically the
ultimate suicide toy! But it?d damn good for running, so I advise if you can, to
kill a Trace before they alt-spam to safety. And don?t Imp a Triskelion, lag
protects them X_X Trace?s best arenas would be anywhere big and his worst would
be undoubtedly small maze like places such as Processor Core, and to some degree
Incubation Vault. Trace is also godly in Oubliette.
- Noxus VS Noxus (5.5)
OH MY GOD MIRROR MATCH! Noxus VS Noxus is a real pain until you know your
opponent. If they?re non-SF then it?ll come down to tactics and who is more
skilled. If they do SF then you?re in trouble. The SF is a glitch that gives
Noxus an infinite freeze range in straight lines vertically from the top of
Noxus? gun (Yeah I was a SFer before I became Non-SF, that?s where the knowledge
comes from lol, I don?t deny it). If they point down it?s Shadow Freezing, Alt
forms and you if on the floor are screwed. If the point upwards it?s known as
?Death Freezing? and it?s more of a broad range which catch Biped forms and
people whom are jumping. They can also angle freeze to get you at diagonal axis
as well. So how do you beat them? Well sniping is probably your best bet but
you?ll have to be a good ?Hip-sniper? which means sniping whilst moving (The
definition of sniping is to sit out of sight and fire fatal shots for those who
wonder what the difference is) which is also a good counter against snipers.
Apart from that, trying to out-freeze an SFer with non-SF is hard but not
impossible, if you?re up to the challenge then go for it. SFer Noxus are good in
any arena which is most based on flat terrain and the floors on even levels
(Combat Hall, Data Shrine, Alinos Perch, SIC Transit, nearly everywhere) and
your best bet is annoyingly places like Alinos Gateway, or Oubliette if you?re
good there.
- Noxus VS Sylux (5.6)
Coils of health sucking *Gasp* Basically Sylux? affinity means when his Shock
Coil does damage, it drains health and he restores it, so the only effective way
to fight an awesome Shock Coiler is to keep a huge distance or literally be in
their face. Sylux is also a master of traps, his alternate mode the Lockjaw can
lay up to the 3 bombs. Each of these bombs connects forming tripwires and when 3
bombs connect into a triangle they explode. And if anything is in that triangle
they home in and deal around 180 damage, which is nearly fatal. Plus they have a
glitch known as the ?Infini-Bomb? or ?Perma-Link Bombs? which is basically
sending more and more bombs against someone who just walked over a trip wire.
Both should be avoided, but this is why Sylux is so good at mind games. The
Lockjaw can also ?fly? or ?glide? by continuously laying bombs, when three are
laid and they explode the Lockjaw does a mini ?jump? and by doing this really
fast again and again they can fly. Always plan ahead and think carefully against
Sylux users who know what they?re doing, especially since your affinities play
on each other?s weaknesses. Both need to be close to work, they can coil you
when you try to freeze them but it does work in reverse too. Sylux is incredible
in any low gravity arenas and his worst are arenas like the Incubation Vault or
Fuel Stack (Yay) where it?s harder to abuse the Shock Coil and Tripwires.
- Noxus VS Weavel (5.7)
Weavel is unusual period (Although I?m maining him at the moment). Weavel?s
affinity Battle Hammer is slower, bigger and stronger than any other character?s
plus it has a huge knock back. So when you?re doing a freezing approach, Weavel
laughs and pummels you. Weavel also has a pretty good alt-form; the Halfturret
which cuts his health in half and give half to each part of his now split body
(Call the circus). And if timed right, going into the Half Turret can create an
?anti-freeze? in which only the lower part is frozen meaning the top part can
retract the turret and become Weavel again. The Half Turret in itself is
annoying, the lower half sits still and fires at any enemy within range
(Although it?s easily bested by a Shock Coil) whilst the top half can run and
slash people. The slash is pretty nasty but easily avoided; the top half is
usually used for running. Weavel can also do massive jumps thanks to his
affinity?s splash + knock back and his alt. To beat a Weavel keeping a distance
and sniping is a pretty good tactic but so are getting medium range and using
Missile/Magmaul since if they hit when Weavel changes into alt they do a hell of
a lot of damage. Weavel?s best arenas are Combat Hall, Processor Core, Ice Hive
& Incubation Vault and his worst been Alinos Perch.
