how do u get past the middle of the final castle in world 8?

In world 4-Ghost House, you're supposed to take the hidden door to the left of star coin number 2 but it takes me right to the exit. I've tried the visible door beneath it with the same results. How do you avoid going to the exit? Is this a glitch?
