Walkthrough - Pokémon Diamond/Pearl - Elite 4Pokémon Diamond/Pearl - Elite 4 Walkthrough -------------------------- 1. Choosing a team ------------- Most people try to take on the Elite 4 with a very unbalanced party, a lvl 68 Empoleon, then lvl 35-40s, or something. The trick is balance. Everyone's starter will be stronger than all the others, but a single powerhouse will just get KOed by a super effective move and you are screwed. Here is the party I used -Infernape [lvl 64] [Fire Blast, Flamethrower, SolarBeam, Close Combat] This guy was awesome, he can take the entire first and second people by himself! He has good speed and attack values, so he can easily OHKO most opponents, like the Champ's Gastrodon, Roserade and Lucario. I chose a strong Fire attack in Fire Blast, and also a reliable one in Flamethrower, and Solar Beam to kill those nasty Water/Ground types that are super effective against him. -Dialga [lvl57] [Roar of Time, Dragon Claw, Aerial Ace, Metal Claw] I only really took Dialga for his level, the second strongest I had, but he makes a BRILLIANT shield for reviving and healing other pokemon. His types mean basically nothing really hurts him, combined with great Def and Sp.Def. Also, if needs must, Roar of Time is a real powerhouse move. -Azelf [lvl 53] [Psychic, Extrasensory, Nasty Plot, Shadow Ball] This guy took on the fourth member almost solo (Infernape took Bronzong)After using Nasty Plot, shadow ball/psychic could OHKO pretty much any psychic or ghost type. Extrasensory is also a great move in that it never seems to run out of PP and can be counted on to do damage to anything. Also a great help vs the league's strongest Poké, Lvl 66 Lucario, who couldn't take a Nasty Plot-fuelled Psychic either. -Staraptor [Lvl 50] [Fly, Aerial Ace, Brave Bird, Close Combat] I only really took Staraptor for his level, which had always been one of my highest levelled pokémon. Fly did a number on Bertha's ground types, and Brave Bird can be relied on as a neat suicide attack, though equally likely to kill you. =] -Luxray [Lvl 51] [Thunder Fang, Thunder, Thunderbolt, Crunch] Electric types are always good, though I was disappointed by the lack of Water or Flying types to kill (In a way, I was hoping for a Gyarados). Crunch proved its worth on just about anything it hit and Cynthia's Milotic stood no chance against the Thunder/Thunderbolt combo. He also did well as a shield pokémon, with high defense values, but a lack of speed often let me down. -Gyarados [Lvl 47] [Waterfall, Surf, Hyper Beam, Aqua Tail] Gyarados is, basically, a beast; the ultimate Anti-ground type unit. His awesome attack power made me choose Aqua Tail over Hydro Pump because it used that attack, rather than his somewhat feeble Sp.Atk. Waterfall was also a great Physical water move that felled Bertha's ground-pures and Golem. Shame he wasn't a higher level, really. (Magikarp is useful for SOMETHING) 2. Training Run ------------- Never underestimate the training run. Not only does it earn those extra levels but it also gives you a feel for the opponent’s pokemon, who is best against who, their movesets (which I don’t have, sorry) and also whether they are Def or Sp.Def fortresses, or too fast for you pokes to handle, or attack powerhouses. Knowing this is key for the pokemon you send against it. Using a Gyarados’ Surf against even a lower level Rapidash with high Sp.Def will prove a possibly fatal mistake. (Rapidash is actually more Attack based, so a good Aqua tail/Waterfall should take him down) There are 2 types of training run, the ‘training’ run and the ‘dress rehearsal’ run. The training run is where you either take one pokemon and send against Aaron again and again until he gains many levels, or all 6 pokemon, and see how far they get without using ANY items. If you get past Bertha, it is a good gage of how your team should cope with the real thing. Dress rehearsal runs are when you use all 6 pokemon and the items you would take for the real thing (for advice on items, see section 3) and see just how far you can go with no real intention of winning. You could get all the way, if you do, the real thing should be a breeze. You could even beat the champ! Who knows? On my dress rehearsal, I held back with moves like Brave Bird, Close Combat and other stat lowering moves which I may use on the actually run for that added power hit, but at a cost. Dress rehearsals are optional and costly, but also helpful. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BEAT THE ELITE 4 ON YOUR FIRST TRY. YOU WILL BE UNPREPARED, AND WONT STAND A CHANCE!! 3. Items ------ You can’t get through the Elite 4 without at least 5 revives and full restores. I find you need A LOT more than that. -Full Restores You shouldn’t actually use more than 10 full restores, because the Elite 4 don’t like giving you status changes, so the max potion will do fine. -Max Potions IRREPLACABLE. The key item I used (along with the Revive) as it is $500 cheaper than the full restore, but still as effective at HP restoring. I took 20, but I really wanted more. -Revives Again, these are key to beating the Elite 4. I couldn’t find any Max Revives in shops anywhere so this is the only purchasable way to recover fainted pokemon. I took 20, which was about the right amount. -Super Potion I know you’re thinking ‘why?’ but just think a bit more. They are only $500, and restore 50HP. Don’t want to waste a $2500 Max Potion on something that’s only lost 50-60 HP? Use a super potion! These are totally expendable and I didn’t take any, to my own disappointment, as in a re-run they were awesome. I’d take 30. 4. Battling the Elite 4 --------------- Here goes, no more practice runs, are you ready? I will give you a run through of each trainer’s pokemon and strategies to beat them, but really, it just you, them, and luck. -Aaron [Dustox lv53] [Beautifly lv53] [Vespiquen lv54] [Heracross lv54] [Drapion lv57] All weak vs fire/flying types except Drapion, who is Rock/Poison so will take a good fighting move (Infernape's Close Combat did the trick). If you struggle vs Aaron, you stand no chance against the Champ, who is 6-9 lvls stronger than him. Vespiquen is a real pain, with pressure, every move that misses is a waste of 2 PP, so using a low accuracy hi-strength move like fire blast with not much PP is a bad idea. (I used Flamethrower). If you have a level 60+ fire or flying Pokemon, you should be able to OHKO everything (except perhaps Drapion) -Bertha [Quagsire lv55] [Whiscash lv55] [Golem lv56] [Sudowoodo lv56] [Hippowdon lv59] Quagsire and Whiscash are exceptionally frustrating. They look water–type, you have a Luxray, but no, they are part-ground type and immune to Electric attacks. Their only weakness is Grass type moves, entrusting them with Infernape’s SolarBeam. Sudowoodo is also deceiving, he looks at least part grass type? Nope! All ground type. However, along with Golem and Hippowdon, he is no match for a strong Water type attack (enter Gyarados!). Expect Sandstorms –a plenty, and her Quagsire likes using Protect and Dig. Kill it quick or it will whittle down your PP… -Flint [Rapidash lv58] [Steelix lv57] [Lopunny lv57] [Drifblim lv58] [Infernape lv61] Rapidash likes using bounce. It is EXCEPTIONALLY irritating. But Gyarados can handle him quite easily. Steelix, Lopunny and Drifblim are all not actually fire type but know some fire moves so don’t pass Steelix on to a Grass pokemon. Infernape, level 61. Surely a job for Infernape, level 64? No. His Infernape knows Earthquake, so..Gyarados then? No. It knows ThunderPunch (I think, just don’t use Gyarados because Infernape can kill it pretty easy). Infernape falls to Azelf. One Nasty Plot and a Psychic later, Flint defeated. -Lucian [Mr Mime lv59] [Alakazam lv60] [Girafarig lv59] [Medicham lv60] [Bronzong lv63] Azelf kills pretty much everyone here. Mr Mime, Alakazam and Medicham all die after one Nasty Plot and a Shadow Ball. Bronzong can’t take a Fire Blast or two, and Girafarig isn’t particularly deadly either. Only problem is the high levels, with just one of my pokemon being as strong as his. -Cynthia [Spiritomb lv61] [Gastrodon lv60] [Milotic lv62] [Lucario lv63] [Roserade lv63] [Garchomp lv66] Nail bitingly close, took 5 or 6 revives and a hecka lot of max potions to win this. Spiritomb has no weakness, but is Normal, Psychic and Fighting – proof, it has poor Sp.Def so any good Special attack should kill it (I used Roar of Time). Gastrodon needs a grass attack (Infernape’s SolarBeam) Milotic needs an Electric attack (took a Thunder and a Thunderbolt from Luxray) Lucario and Roserade are both weak to fire, so Infernape OHKO’d them, too. Garchomp is strong and doesn’t die easily. It killed 2 of my pokemon which whittled it down to about half HP, then Dialga proved his worth with another Roar of Time. WOOT! YOU ARE NOW SINNOH POKEMON CHAMPION! Best pokemon: Infernape [lvl 64] did some damn good killing. Best item: Revives! Nothing better than bringing your pokemon back to life. Best Move: Azelf’s Nasty Plot. A great boost to Sp.Atk that can help him KO stuff. Whats not to like? |
