Walkthrough - Elite Four Champion-Lance!(All credits go to Marriland)This is it, the fight against the League Champion himself Lance! Yep, the guy that you helped out earlier is now the guy you'll have to fight for the title of League Champion. Even though his team is the same as in the original Gold and Silver, the addition of super-strong Dragon-type attacks and having Physical-based Dragon-type attacks makes his trio of Dragonites much more difficult than ever before. Lance will start the fight with Gyarados, which you should hopefully have experience in dealing with. Send out an Electric-type Pokemon or use your strongest Electric-type attacks to send it down pretty quick and make sure you don't let it Intimidate your Physical-based attacker. It has some diverse attacks in its arsenal, but nothing that will mess with Electric-types. Dragon Pulse shouldn't do that much either. He'll send out his Pokemon in whatever order he feels like, usually based on countering whatever you have sent up, so just read the appropriate paragraph to make sure you know how to take on each of his Pokemon. I'm just going to go down the list as I have it above. Charizard hopefully won't be too difficult to you. It is extremely weak to Rock-type attacks, but Electric-type attacks work great against it, too. It has Blaze and Fire Fang, so be careful when it gets below 1/3 its max HP as Fire Fang will do a lot more damage then. His Aerodactyl is extremely fast and will likely outspeed any Pokemon you have, but it's also very fragile. Attacks like Surf, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Avalanche, or Thunderbolt are your best bet, but even strong Special-based attacks will send it down pretty quickly. Just be careful because it hits pretty hard and can cover a lot of different types with its diverse attack selection. Now all that's left are his three Dragonites. The two level 49 Dragonites will use Thunder Wave to slow you down and potentially keep you from attacking, so make sure you administer Parlyz Heals or Full Heals right away rather than let paralysis affect you for any longer. They both have Dragon Rush to hit for a lot of damage! Additionally, one has Thunder and the other has Blizzard, and although both are rather inaccurate, they can still catch you off guard. The last Dragonite he has is his strongest and deadliest, possessing Outrage, which is the strongest Physical-based Dragon-type move in the game. It will hit for a ton of damage and will confuse Dragonite after two or three turns of using it. It also has Safeguard to prevent you from disabling it with sleep, paralysis, or burn. Burning any of these Dragonites (assuming Safeguard isn't activated) is a great way to sharply reduce their Attack and the amount of damage they do. Moves like Reflect are also really effective, as are bulky Steel-types like Skarmory or Steelix. But unless you have any of these, you may have a bit of a difficult time against them. As with a lot of Lance's Pokemon, Rock- and particularly Ice-type attacks are the most effective against Dragonite. You could utilize a Hail + Blizzard combo to knock out his Dragonites in one hit with 100% accuracy, or you could chance it with Avalanche (remember you will be hit first when you use Avalanche). Otherwise just try get around any of their resistances and hit with whatever your strongest attacks are. If you're still having difficulty with this fight, when you're up against Gyarados, start off by using 3 or 4 X Defends, 1 or 2 X Speeds (1 if you have a faster Pokemon, 2 if you have a slower one), and then 3 or 4 X Attacks / X Specials (remember Intimidate lowered your Attack one stage). Hope that Gyarados doesn't get a critical hit and heal with Hyper or Max Potions whenever you get weak. If Gyarados' Dragon Pulse is hurting, it means Dragonite's Hyper Beam, Thunder, or Blizzard probably will, too, so use an X Sp. Def. After all of that, you should be able to run through Lance's team fairly easily. The only thing that will ruin your fun is a critical hit, which seem to be more common if you stack a lot of boosts, but you'll just have to deal with it. If you saved your game before fighting Lance, just reset and try apply all of the boosts again. It's a surefire way to win and the only luck it requires is dodging a critical hit. If you need more X Defends or X Sp. Defs, or more X Attacks or X Specials, you'll know and you'll be able to use them in the next fight. Don't have these items You didn't listen to me then. If you already saved and you're still struggling with Lance, try and try again, but if you still can't beat him, just go ahead and lose the fight because you probably aren't going to win it anyway and then go buy the items I listed above. Or just go train your Pokemon if you don't like using those items. After beating Lance, you'll receive a ton of money. Oh yeah, you'll also become the new League Champion! Prof. Oak and Mary will then come in and congratulate you, wanting to interview you, but Lance then takes you to the back room where he registers you and your Pokemon into the Hall of Fame. The new Hall of Fame looks pretty sweet! So sit back, enjoy the show, let the game save after you're entered in the Hall of Fame, and then watch the credits roll! Way to go, new League Champion! However, just because you've beaten the Elite Four and have become the new League Champion doesn't mean the game is over. Oh, no, in fact you still have a whole new region to explore in Kanto! |
