Walkthrough - The entire walkthrough for Pokemon Soul SilverWhen you first start up the game, you will be taken to a screen that has several options on it. Press the bottom one to continue. Prof. Oak will then appear and ask you if you are a boy or a girl and then your name. Once that is done, you will be taken to New Bark Town. You will start in your room. Head on down and your mother will give you your bag. You can now also save and view your status. When you first step out, Marill will come up to you and then leave and you will see the first glimpse of the opposite gender rival. If you are playing as a male, your opposite gender rival will be Lyra, a new addition to the GSC story and a replacement for Crystal's Kris female character. Female characters will meet Ethan, the original protagonist from GSC. You can explore a little bit and see a red haired boy in the window, but for now continue to Prof. Elm's lab (The big building in the upper left). Go inside and he will ask you to run a errand for him and let you choose between 3 Pokemon. * Totodile, a water Pokemon * Chikorita, a grass Pokemon * Cyndaquil, a fire Pokemon In this game, Cyndaquil is actually easy mode, Totodile is medium, and Chikorita is hard to use against the gyms, so choose wisely. The Pokemon you choose will also appear behind you now. Before you leave, Prof. Elm's aid will give you 5 Potions. After you exit the lab, Ethan or Lyra will appear and talk to you and leave again. Once that is finished, go talk to your mother and she will give you the Pokegear. It is similar to how it worked in the original GSC versions, but it now has touchscreen support. Leave your house and try to go west and Prof. Elm will appear and give you his phone number. Once you are ready, head to Route 29. Since you just got your first Pokemon, you might want to take the time to fight some of the Pokemon on this route for experience. It is mainly Sentret for the most part, but Hoothoot do come out at night. You cannot catch Pokemon at this point, so it is just battling at this point. Head west until you reach Cherrygrove City. There are a couple of things you can do on this route. There is a man to the right that will take a picture of you and your team if you say Yes. You can do this as many times as you want. Keep going on the route and fighting the trainers. Once you are near the end, you can finally capture some Pokemon. You can get Nidoran male and female on this route. Once you hit the grass part head right, fight the trainer, and cut down the tree. Continue up and then go to the right some more and you will eventually find the tree that was blocking your way earlier. By now, you have reached Route 36. Alternatively, you can keep going straight and head to the National Park ____ Use your Squirt Bottle on the tree blocking your way and it will attack you. Not much to do here besides fight some trainers and capture some Pokemon. If you do not have a fire Pokemon, its recommended that you hunt for a Growlithe or Vulpix on this route (Depending on your version). Once you are done, continue up to Ecruteak City, Head to the Pokemon Center first. When you do, you will meet Bill, the man who build the PC Storage system you use to store Pokemon. If you go back to his house in Goldenrod, you can get a lv 5 Eevee. If you go inside the house that is to the left of the Pokemon Center, the man inside will give you the Dowsing MCHN, formerly known as the Itemfinder in GSC. It has been upgraded and now has touchscreen support. Once you get the Dowsing MCHN, look near the water fountain on the right of Bell Tower on the right side of Ecruteak. You can find a hidden Rare Candy near there. If you go into the house above the Pokemon Center, you will see one of the Kimono girls talking to a team rocket member. Go up and fight the rocket, all he has is a lv 12 Koffing. After you beat him, the rocket will run off. Once you get off the stage, the man sitting in the audience will give you HM 03 (Surf), although you cannot use it at the moment since you do not have the badge. You cannot enter the Bell Tower (Formerly the Tin Tower) at the moment, but you can get your picture taken in front of the entrance. Once you are ready to continue, head to the upper left corner and enter the burned tower. As soon as you enter, you will see Eusine from Pokemon Crystal. He will approach you, but not battle. You will also see Morty in the tower as well. There are a few wild Pokemon, such as Koffing if you want to capture them. Once you are ready, go near the ladder and your rival will challenge you. Once you beat your rival, he will run off. Once he does that, you can explore the top floor a little more. There are several firebreathers that you can battle, and the Koffing are good EXP if you need to get any Pokemon up to level 20. Once you are ready, head down the ladder to the floor below. Once you are at the bottom, go near the legendary dogs and they will each run off in different directions. Eusine will come down and talk for a little bit and then leave. Once you are ready, leave the burned tower. Once you are ready, head to the Ecruteak City Gym. Make sure your Pokemon are all above level 20, preferably around lv 22 or up. A little different then the GSC, Morty's gym now has a visible walkway. However, the trick is that you are going to fight pretty much every trainer in the gym. Once you beat them, their light goes out, making it hard to get to the end. If you fall into the pit, you are warped back to the beginning of the gym. The good thing is once you do step in the pit, the trainer's light comes back on. Once you get to the end, save and fight Morty. After the battle, Morty will give you the Fog Badge, which lets you control traded Pokemon up to level 50 and allows you to use Surf outside of battle. He also gives you TM30, Shadow Ball. Head back to the Pokemon Center and heal. Now, for some other stuff to do. If you go east to Route 42, you will find a cave and some water you can surf across. Next to the cave is TM65, Shadow Claw. Its a decent TM, so you might want to pick it up. When you go near a cave, a mountain climber will come out and give you HM04, Strength. You can surf on the other side and reach Mahogany Town sooner then normal and do the Rocket Hideout + Gym there early, but for now we will wait on that. There are now a few things you can do with Surf. Here are a list of places with areas with decent items that you can get. +================+ |Cherrygrove City| +================+ In Cherrygrove City, there is some water on the left side you can surf across to find a small island with a man on it. Talk to him and he will give you the Mystic Water item, which powers up Water-type moves. On the right side of Route 30 at the very beginning coming from Cherrygrove is a pond you can surf on. Go down and you can find a Nugget that is invisible by pressing A (Use the Dowsing MCHN if you have trouble finding it). Near the Sprout Tower is some water you can surf across. If you surf on the left side, you will find a PP Up. If you surf on the right, you will find a Rare Candy. You will need both Strength and Surf for this. Go back to the area where you fought the Rocket Executives and you will find a boulder on the left side that you can push. Go down the path and you will find a area you can surf on. Surf across it and go down the ladder to reach a new area of Slowpoke Well. There are two paths in this room that you can surf on. The left one will lead you to a ledge where you will find a Researcher who will give you the Kings Rock. The Kings Rock is a rather decent item that makes your opponent Pokemon occasionally flinch when you use a attack, but its main purpose is to evolve Poliwhirl and Slowpoke into Politoed and Slowking respectively when you do a link trade with the King's Rock attached. The right side has a item ball with TM 18 (Rain Dance). Rain Dance both increases the power of water moves and makes Thunder 100% accurate. Route 34 has several things of interest. On the left side of the route is a thin water path that leads down. Swim down and you will eventually find a item ball with a Nugget inside. Keep going down and you will find a group of three Ace Trainers. The first two will attack you in a double battle, and the third will have several high level Pokemon for this early in the game (26-28). After you beat Ace Trainer Kate, she will give you the Power Herb. If you surf across on Route 35, you will find a Green Apricorn tree and a hidden nugget if you keep going up. Use the Dowsing MHCN to find it. Once you are ready, head west to Route 38 A rather big route with a bunch of new Pokemon. If you need a electric and steel Pokemon, you can capture Magnemite now. Another new one is Tauros, a very strong Normal type Pokemon. Also, if you do no have a Pokemon that can surf, you might want to get one now. You can also get Miltank on this route as well (Same Pokemon Whitney uses earlier). Farfetch'd is another new Pokemon, but it is rather weak so you might only want it for completion. Outside of fighting trainers, there is not much else to do. Head left to Route 39 Once you go on Route 39, a old man named Baoba will approach you. He is the former warden of the Kanto Safari Zone, and he is setting one up in Johto. When you are done talking to him, he will give you his number and let you know when it opens. You now have several options: You can either go to the MooMoo Ranch for a side quest, or head straight down to Olivine. The MooMoo ranch is on the very top of the route, the one with all the Miltank in the front. You can get your picture taken there if you want. If you go inside, you will find a sick Miltank. To cure it, you will need to feed it 5 Oran Berries. Once you do, you will get the Seal Case and the ability to buy some MooMoo milk for 500p. There is also a invisible PP Up near the Milktank on the Moomoo ranch. You can also find TM 60 (Drain Punch) by going directly south of the MooMoo Ranch and picking up the item ball on the left. There is also a invisible nugget nearby. Once you are ready, head south down to Olivine. Sort of a mini-dungeon of sorts, the Olivine Lighthouse is filled to the brim with trainers. The first time you come, you will not be able to use the elevator to go to the top, so you will need to take the stairs. One downside is that it is hard to avoid trainers, so you will need to keep your Pokemon at top health. If needed, head back to the Pokemon Center if your HP is getting too low. On the fourth floor, go left and fight the lass and then go left some more to find TM87, Swagger. Once you are ready, head outside and you will be on a 3D ledge. On the left side is a item ball with a Rare Candy in it. Head inside once you are ready and you will be on the third floor. On the other side of the third floor, fight the sailor to the right and get the Ether and continue up to the ladder, and then up the next one up to the fifth floor. Fight the sailor and continue, and then continue to the right to the next ladder. On the top floor, you will meet Jasmine, the Gym leader. She made a brief cameo in D/P/Pl as well. Like in the originals, she asks you to go to Cianwood and get the SecretPotion for the Ampharos. Once she is done, she will open the door and allow you to take the elevator down. Now head to the Pokemon Center and heal up. Make sure you have a Pokemon that can surf (If not, you can catch something with your Super Rod or can catch a Tauros on Route 38). Once you are ready, head to Route 40. Not much to do on the land version of Route 40. There is a gatehouse that leads to a new area later on, but you can't do anything in it right now. Use surf and start heading south. There is not much else here to do besides capture some Tentacool and fight trainers, so keep going south until you can go further and head to Route 41. When you first enter, you will see a Whirlpool. You can't do anything with it now, so leave it alone. You can also fine Mantine and Tentacruel on this route on rare occasions. They are usually higher level then your base Pokemon, so you might be able to find them with a repel. Keep going west and you will find Cianwood City. A small island town with a gym, there is not much to do at this point. You can go to the shop that is next to the Pokemon Center and get the SecretPotion for the Lighthouse. You can get a Shuckle from the house to the left of the Cianwood Pharmacy for free if you talk to the guy inside. It is carrying Berry Juice with it, a special recover item for Pokemon. Head up north and you will find your first sighting of Suicune and it will run off. Eusine will then come up and then challenge you to a battle. | |____________________________________________________________________________| |Info: Consider Eustine a warm up for the Cianwood Gym. Its recommended that | | your Pokemon are at least lv 24 or so before fighting him. Drowzee is | | his biggest pain in the ass, since it has Disable and Hypnosis. Once | | it does put you to sleep, he will use Dream Eater. He also has | | Confusion, so be careful. Dark, bug and ghost attacks work best, so | | use a Pokemon that has bite or shadow ball. | | | | Haunter is his second Pokemon, but is pretty wimpy. It only comes with| | Mean Look to lock you into battle, and Lick. Psychic and other Ghost | | attacks work best against it. | | | | Finally, there is Electrode. He has screech to greatly lower your | | defense, and then Thunder to finish you off. He can also use Sonicboom| | to always hit you with 20 damage. Best Pokemon to use is a ground type| | with ground moves, like Onix or Gravler. | ____________________________________________________________________________/ Once you beat him, he will run off. There is not much else to do after that. There is a new cave that leads to several of the new areas of HG/SS, but you cannot access it at this point. Once you are ready, head to the Cianwood Gym. A little different then GSC, Cianwood's gym now involves a waterfall puzzle. Chuck is in the middle, and there are two cliffs on each side. Each cliff has a bunch of trainers you will need to fight, and sometimes they will block your way. If they do, you might have to leave the gym so they reset. Once you get to the top of the left side, press the switch and the water will turn off. Talk to Chuck. |Info: Even though Chuck may only have two Pokemon, they are both at a very | | high level and can be a real pain in the ass if you are under-leveled.| | Its recommended that you are at least level 26-28 or above before you | | fight him. | | | | His first Pokemon is Primeape, which serves more to annoy you. It uses| | Leer to lower your defense, and then Double Team to make it hard to | | hit you. For attacks, it can use Rock Slide against fliers to make | | quick work of them, and Focus Punch to do massive damage. The trick | | to Focus Punch is he needs to not be attacked before he uses it, or | | else it misses and he loses his turn. If he is about to use it, use | | a attack on him. Flying attacks work best, but it might be hard to | | hit him with Rock Slide. Ghost attacks work well for dodging his Focus| | Punch move. | | | | Poliwrath, however, is his main fighter. He likes to use Hypnosis to | | knock you out, and then use Surf, Body Slam, and Focus Punch to slowly| | whittle down your HP. Like Primeape, use a attack before he uses focus| | punch and you should be OK. Fortunately, you can use flying Pokemon on| | Poliwrath with no major issues, and ghost types work well once again. Once you beat him, he will give you the Storm Badge (Allows you to use fly outside of battle and TM01, Focus Punch. When you leave the gym, Chuck's Wife will give you HM02, Fly. Once you are ready, fly back to Olivine City. Now that you have the SecretPotion from the Cianwood Pharmacy, head to the lighthouse and take the elevator to the top. Give Jasmine the SecretPotion and she will give it to the Ampharos and it will flash with light and Jasmine will return to the gym. Take the elevator back down and head to it. Once you get to the bottom, you will receive a phone call saying that the Safari Zone west of Cianwood is now open. Not much to really do. You see a few trainers come up and talk to you, but in a rare case they will not battle you. Head up to Jasmine and talk to her to battle. |Info: Depending on your current team, Jasmine can either be the easiest or | | hardest Gym Leader depending on your team. Steel Pokemon are a rather | | hard bunch to hit and have few weaknesses, so you need to have a plan.| | Fire Pokemon are its main weakness, so if you do not have one, it is | | recommended that you go catch a Vulpix/Growlithe on Route 36, the | | route that is south of Ecruteak. Also, you will want to have a Ground | | Pokemon for her two Magnemite, such as Onix or Gravler. Once you beat her, you will get the Mineral Badge, which allows you to use Pokemon up to lv 70. She also gives you TM23, Iron Tail. Now that you have the Mineral Badge, head back to Ecruteak and head east to Route 42. * Note that you can only buy the above once you clear the Goldenrod Radio Tower later in the game. A rather small Town, there is not much you can do at this point. The strange shop above the gym is selling TinyMushrooms for 500p, Pokeballs for 200p, and Potions for 300p. Considering how far you are, most of those items are fairly low level. Also notice the weird tree to the right of the shop, that becomes important later. You also cannot enter the gym at this point, so leave that alone for now. If you try to leave east, a man will offer to sell you a RageCandyBar for 300p. The main difference is instead of being a item that restores health, it is now a key item that you use much later in the game. You won't be able to go east for some time, so the only way to go is North to route 43. A rather long route. You can either go through the tall grass at the beginning, or be forced to pay a 1000p toll if you go through the gatehouse. This is a good place for EXP, not only from the massive amount of trainers here, but the wild Pokemon. You can now capture a Girafarig, a normal/psychic Hybrid that has resistance to ghost attacks, and Venonat, a Bug/Poison Pokemon. Keep going north until you hit the Lake of Rage. When you get to the Lake of Rage, you will find that it is raining rather hard, and there are several people at the shore looking out towards the lake. You will then see a moving Red Gyarados in the water. Use surf and head to where it is at and battle it. The Red Gyarados is unique, since it is one of the few encounters that will always be Shiny. It is at a rather respectable lv 30 and will use its special Intimidate ability when you first encounter it. It knows Leer, Twister, and Dragon Rage, so be careful. You will want to bring some Great Balls, and want to lower it as low as possible. Even though it is raining, be careful about using Thunder, since it can knock it out almost immediately due to its dual Water/Flying types. Once you do beat the Red Gyarados, you will get the Red Scale, a item you can trade with Mr. Pokemon north of Cherrygrove for a EXP Share. Head back to shore and you will see a familiar man with a Dragonite looking at a sign. He is Lance, the Elite Four member from Red/Blue/Yellow/FireRed/LeafGreen. He will mention that the Magikarp of this lake were forced to evolve, and there should be something in Mahogany that is causing it. He will then fly off toward the weird shop in Mahogany. You can either follow him, or make a quick stop at Cherrygrove and get the EXP Share, since it will be useful for the battles ahead. Head back to Mahogany and head to the shop. You will see Lance tearing the place apart looking for the entrance switch. He will then find it under the big statue. Once you are ready, head under to the Rockets Hideout. One thing you will notice as soon as you enter is the giant Persian statues on the walls. You have no choice but to walk in front of the first one, which triggers two rocket grunts. The first one has a lv 17 Drowsee and the Second will have a lv 16 Zubat and a Rattata at lv 18. There are a bunch more on this floor and each will activate a Rocket Grunts. You can turn them off, however. Follow the path west a little bit until you can go down, and then head down until you find a scientist near a PC. Battle him (He has three lv 20 Magnemite), and Press A on the PC he was near to turn off the statues. There are two possible paths to the stairs going down: you can either go east and then down and then right to find a teleporter (Teleporter sends you back to the beginning), and the stairs going down. The second way is to re-trace your steps back to where the Persian statues are, and then go west until you find a Rocket Grunt. Beat the grunt and then go down. You will then notice a interesting new trap: Various wild Pokemon now appear on certain floors. You can find either Voltorb, Geodude, or Koffing. You can either run, beat them, or capture them. Once you are on the other side of the traps, you will find the same teleport and stairs mentioned earlier. Go down to B2. When you head downstairs, you will find Lance who will then heal your Pokemon. There is not much you can do on this floor for now: The door to the generator is shut for now, and there are a few grunts on this floor. Keep going right until you find the stairs for B3. When you first enter B3, Lance will just get done interrogating a Rocket Grunt, who gives him the first part of the password for a door that is needed later on. You will need to find the second code, which is on the same floor. In the big computer room in the center, fight the female rocket grunt (She has a lv 18 Ekans and a lv 18 Gloom). When you beat her, she will give you the second code Before continuing, lets get some of the items in this room. There is a item ball on the left side of the center room that has TM 49 (Snatch). The right side of the center room has a Full Heal. Going to the lower left corner of the room has a scientist and a rocket grunt as well as a X Special and Protein. Once you are ready, go to the upper right corner to find the staircase going up a alternate route on B2. For now, keep going left and you will eventually have to fight a rocket grunt. He has a 3 lv 17 Rattata. Head down the stairs to end up on a alternate part of B3. There is another staircase further down that leads to a room with TM46. Once you are ready, head east toward the door. When you get close, your Rival will appear and mention that he battled with Lance and lost pretty badly. He then runs off without fighting you. If your rival did not come up to you, that means that you do not have both codes. Once you are ready, press A on the door and it will open. The man inside presents himself as Giovanni, but in reality he is Petrel, a Team Rocket Executive. He will then fight you |Info: Petrel is only slightly more tougher then your average Rocket Grunt, | | so he should not be too much of a problem. His Zubat has Astonish, | | Bite, Wing Attack, and Confuse Ray, so use a Pokemon with Thunder or | | Ice attacks against him (If you got Blizzard from the Goldenrod | | Department Store, that works well). Psychic Pokemon might want to be | | careful because of Astonish and Bite. | | | | His Koffing can be annoying, since it has Smog, Smokescreen, Assurance| | and Selfdestruct. Assurance can be very powerful if your Pokemon is | | too fast, since it does double damage if Koffing was attacked that | | turn. It likes to use Selfdestruct when it gets close to dying, so | | finish it off quickly. Its levitate means that ground type attacks do | | not work well on it, so Psychic moves are the best. | | | | Finally, there is Raticate. It has Hyper Fang, Sucker Punch, Scary | | Face, and Crunch. Hyper Fang can be deadly against lower level Pokemon| | so be careful. Fighting moves work best, although be careful about | | using Ghost Pokemon, since Crunch and Sucker Punch are both dark type | | moves. | Once you beat him, he will run off, and his Murkrow will talk to you and then run off as well. You now have to tail the Murkrow back to the door on B3 that was locked earlier. Once you do, it will say the password and then run off. As soon as you do this, Rocket Admin Arianna and a Grunt will show up to challenge you, but Lance will show up as well and aid you in a double battle. |Info: A rather interesting battle. Arianna has rather high level Pokemon, | | but Lance is about twice as strong as you currently are, having a lv | | 40 Dragonite that can wipe out most of Arianna's and the Grunt's | | teams. For the most part, you can just sit back and let Lance do most | | of the work while you get the EXP. Only downside is the Dragonite | | likes to use Fly most of the time, so it takes two turns to use. It | | will also occasionally use Thunder as well. | | | | As for the Pokemon, her Arbok has Glare, Crunch, Wrap and Poison | | Sting. The only one that might cause trouble is Glare, which paralyzes| | you. Gloom has Sweet Scent, Mega Drain, Acid, and Sleep Powder, so it | | likes to put you to sleep most of the time. Murkow has Night Shade, | | Wing Attack, Astonish and Pursuit. A good ground Pokemon like Gravler | | or Onix can take out Arbok and Gloom (Although be careful of Gloom | | and her grass moves). A flyer can also work well on Gloom as well. | | Murkrow can be taken out with electric or ice attacks. | | | | As for the grunt, he is more for support. His Drowsee has Disable, | | Confusion, Headbutt, and Poison Gas, while his Grimer has Mud-Slap, | | Disable, Minimize, and Sludge. They like to use Disable a lot, so | | don't be surprised if you have to use other moves most of the time. | | Sludge and Poison Gas also Poison, so be careful of that. | After you beat them, Arianna and the rest of the grunts then abandon the base. Lance then tells you that you have to destroy the generator by knocking out the Electrode that are powering it. The Electrode are all at lv 23, and can either be knocked out or caught. If you run from battle, they will still be there. Once you knock out or capture them, Lance will thank you and give you HM05, Whirlpool, as a reward. He will then mention his battle with your Rival, and then walk off. Once you head outside, you will see that the weird tree has been damages and now shows the remains of a broken Transmitter. Head to the Pokemon Center and heal, and then head to the gym. While similar to his old Gym, Pryce's layout is now sectioned off into three different rooms. Fortunately, it is not as hard as the Snowpoint Gym, so you should not have as much trouble against him. Anywho, as far as the puzzles go, it involves sliding ice. Similar to the Snowpoint gym in that you have to slide in a particular direction to get to your destination. The trick is the ice blocks, which you usually have to press together to make it solid enough to hold you. For your convenience, here is the solutions for each room Room 1: -Go up on the ice and slide until the ice block slides up against the second one. From there, go left, up, and then right and then head up and go through the door. Room 2: -There are two trainers, you have to fight the one on the left to continue, but you can avoid the right one as long as you do not mess up the puzzle. Go to the left, fight the trainer, and then line yourself up with the ice block and slide into it. Once you are stopped, go up and through the door. -In the third room, go to the left and fight the trainer and then line yourself up with the ice block and slide into it. Go up, fight the trainer, then go right, left, up, right, up, right, up and fight the trainer, left, and then up. |Info: Pryce has not changed much from his GSC days, only being about 3 | | higher then his old team. His moves have not changed much either, | | although his Pokemon no longer all have Icy Wind as a main attack. | | | | Anywho, his Seel has Icy Wind, Rest, Snore, and Hail. Icy Wind lowers | | your speed each time it hits, so be careful not to have it lowered too| | much. He will use Rest when Seel gets low on HP, and then Snore to | | damage you while sleeping. Snore also has a high chance of flinching, | | so be careful. Hail lasts several turns and hits any Pokemon that is | | not a Ice type Pokemon, so it will hit Seel as well. Electric Pokemon | | work best here. | | | | Dewgong is similar to Seel, but has much stronger moves. it has Rest, | | Sleep Talk, Aurora Beam, and Ice Shard. Auora Beam and Ice Shard are | | both strong Ice Type attacks, while Sleep Talk allows it to use one | | of those two moves while the user is asleep. Once again, Electric | | attacks work well against Pryce, but Fighting can also cause some | | serious damage. | | | | Finally, there is Piloswine, the powerhouse of his team. It is holding| | a Sitrus Berry, which will restore 25% of its HP when it gets low. | | Its moves include Blizzard, Ice Fang, Mud Bomb, and Hail. All are very| | powerful moves, and can be hard to take down if your Pokemon are | | underleveled. Piloswine is weak to fighting, steel, fire, water, and | | grass moves, so moves such as Surf, Mega Drain, Iron Tail, any | | fighting moves, and Fire Blast are all good ones. Be careful about | | using Fire and Grass types, since they are weak to his attack. | | | | It is recommended that your Pokemon are at least lv 30 and that some | | of them know Thunder, Surf, and fighting moves. | ____________________________________________________________________________/ Once you beat Pryce he will give Glacier Badge and TM07 (Hail). You can also use Whirlpool outside of battle now, so the HM Lance gave you earlier will work. Once you head outside, you will get a phone call saying Goldenrod has been taken over. Go to the Pokemon Center and heal, and then fly over there. When you get to Goldenrod, you will find that most of the places are sealed off by Rocket Grunts, and if you try to go to the Radio Tower one of the Rocket Grunts will be blocking the stairs. In order to get to the upper floors of the Radio Tower, you will need to dress like a Grunt. Head to the underground from the Game Corner and go right, and you will find a Rocket that will dress you up in a uniform. Head back to the Radio Tower and talk to the grunt that is near the stairs. He will then move, but your rival will come and reveal who you really are. After that, the grunt will fight you: He has two lv 24 Raticates, so it should be pretty easy. Once you beat him, the grunt will run upstairs and your rival will run off. Make sure your Pokemon are all healed up and then head up the Radio Tower. You will find a bunch of rocket grunts here. If you are still underleveled, then you may want to fight them. Otherwise, continue on to the third floor Several more grunts to fight for EXP. If you go to the right, you will find a set of shutters that does now allow you to continue up. Instead, go up the stairs on the right to the 4th Floor. Not much to do on this Floor as well. There is a female Rocket grunt looking out the window at Executive Proton, but that is about it. You can fight her for the EXP, although it is not required. Once you are ready, head up the stairs on the left side of the room. On the 5th Floor, you will find a man that looks like the Radio Tower Manager, but in reality he is Petrel, the same man who dressed up earlier as Giovanni. Save before you talk to him, since he will fight you. |Info: Possible one of the few times in the game where you will face a full | | 6 Pokemon, Petrel can be seen as a benchmark of sorts. All his Koffing| | have Sludge, Smokescreen, and Selfdestruct for when your HP gets low. | | Best way to take them out is to use a Psychic move, such as Confusion | | or Psybeam, or even Psychic if you have it. Weezing is similar to the | | Koffing, but a little tougher. Watch out if any of the Koffing use | | selfdestruct, since it will greatly damage your Pokemon. You may want | | to bring a few potions and revives just in case. | Once you beat Petrel, he will give you the Basement Key for the area of the underground that is locked. Head back to the bottom of the Radio Tower, heal your Pokemon, and head to the underground. When you head right, you will find one of the Kimono sisters and she will talk to you. After she leaves, keep going right and use the Basement Key on the shutters to open it. When you first enter the area, you will see several team rocket grunts. Try to go to the left, however, and your Rival will show up and fight you. |Info: Its been awhile since you last fought your rival, so this might be a | | good chance to test your skills. His Pokemon are 30-34, so your | | should be around or above that range, lowest you should have is lv 28.| | Interesting enough though, he will have a Feraligatr if you have | | chosen a Quilava, whereas choosing anything else will only have him | | using the first evolution of his starter and not the final one. | | | | First up is Haunter, which has Curse, Mean Look, Confuse Ray, and | | Shadow Ball. Similar to Morty's you will want to switch out if he | | uses Curse, although it might be hard if you use Mean Look. Confuse | | Ray can be a gigantic pain in the ass, and Shadow Ball is always a | | tough move against your Pokemon. Normal Pokemon with Psychic or | | Ghost moves work well, as well as dark attacks such as bite. | | | | Second is Golbat, who has Air Cutter, Confuse Ray, Bite, and Astonish.| | It has flying, dark, and ghost attacks, so be careful of using grass | | psychic, ghost, or fighting Pokemon. Psychic or rock moves take it | | down real quick. | | | | Magnemite is his lowest level Pokemon, and it has Spark, Supersonic, | | Sonicboom, and Thunderwave. Similar to his other two Pokemon, he can | | confuse you with Supersonic. SonicBoom always does 20 damage, and | | Spark is a electric move. Fire, ground, and fighting attacks are super| | effective against it. | | | | Sneasel is his newest Pokemon, one you might have found out about | | earlier if you got the Shuckle from the man in Cianwood. Its attacks | | include Faint Attack, Quick Attack, Fury Swipes, and Icy Wind. All of | | the attacks are Psychical attacks, so a Pokemon with high defense will| | work fine. Icy Wind is a special attack, but it will not do as much | | because of Sneasel's low special attack. | | | | Finally, there is his starters. Quilava goes down with ground and | | water attacks like surf, Bayleef goes down with Ice, fire, and flying | | moves, and Feraligatr goes down with electric and grass attacks. | After you beat your rival, he will mention Lance and then leaves. Anywho, now that you have taken care of your rival there are two grunts in the room that you have to beat. After that, go down and then left, and then in the lower left corner you will find a item ball with a Smoke Ball item (If you attach it to one of your Pokemon, it allows you to escape from wild battles easier). There is also a few bandits in this area, usually with more fire Pokemon like Growlithe and Poison Pokemon like Koffing. Your main goal for this room is to get to the center switch room. There are three levers on the north wall: A red switch, a green switch, and a blue switch. In order to get to the next area, you will need to press the Red switch first, then the blue one, and then the green. Once you have done all of that, head to the right shutter and then go down. When you are near the door, you will face a Rocket Grunt with two Glooms. Beat her and continue through the door. In the next room, you will find that the path is rather straightforward. Along the way, you will find a Ultra Ball, Max Ether, and TM82 (Sleep Talk) in itemballs. Once you get to the end of the path and fight all the Rocket Grunts, you will find the real Radio Tower Manager. Talk to him and he will give you a Keycard to the closed shutter on the 3rd Floor of the Radio Tower. Head up the stairs on your right and you will find a item ball with a Amulet Coin, a item that will double your money earned when you attach it to one of your Pokemon and that Pokemon fights. You will find that there are several Machoke and boxes blocking your way to several of the other items, so take the elevator up to the first floor of the Goldenrod Department Store. Heal your Pokemon at the Pokemon Center, and go back to the Radio Tower. Now that you are back in the Radio Tower, head back to the 3rd Floor. If you have not, fight any grunts you have not fought yet for the EXP, since you will need all the levels you can get. Open the shutters on the third floor and fight the rocket that is guarding the stairs. Head up and you will find Executive Proton, ready to fight you again. |Info: If you had no trouble against your rival and Petrel, then Proton will | | be a cakewalk. Golbat has Wing Attack, Confuse Ray, Leech Life, and | | Bite, all very standard for a Golbat. Weezing has Sludge, Double Hit, | | Smokescreen and Smog. Both are very weak against psychic attacks, so | | Psybeam or Confusion work well. Golbat is also weak against Ice and | | Rock moves. | Once you do beat him, there is a item ball with a Ultra Ball that is right next to him. Head up the stairs and you will find Arianna, who will also have a rematch with you. |Info: This will be the first and last time you face Arianna outside of a | | double battle, so it will be a interesting one. Her Pokemon have | | leveled up about 5-7 levels since the Mahogany Town Rocket Hideout, so| | yours should be around lv 30 or so. | | | | First, her Arbok has Glare, Crunch, Wrap, and Poison Sting. All are | | fairly weak attacks, although glare can be annoying since it paralyzes| | you. Psychic and Ground attacks will knock it out quickly. | | | | Next up is Vileplume, her strongest Pokemon. It has Sweet Scent, Acid,| | Mega Drain, and Sleep Powder. Sweet Scent makes it so your Pokemon | | are easier to it, and Sleep Powder is a annoying move that puts your | | Pokemon to sleep for a few turns (Unless you are still Paralyzed from | | Arbok). Mega Drain is her strongest attack, and will recover some of | | her HP. Flying, Psychic, Fire, and Ice moves are all the best ones | | to use. | | | | Finally, there is Murkrow. It has Night Shade, Wing Attack, Astonish, | | and Pursuit. Nothing special here, ice, electric, and rock moves are | | all very effective against it. | If your Pokemon are low on health, you might want to head back to the Pokemon Center real quick and heal up. Once you are ready, take the elevator up to the top floor of the Radio Tower. Head around to the north side to find a guy standing there. His name is Archer and he is the current leader of Team Rocket. After talking to him and learning his true motives for attacking the radio tower, he will fight you. |Info: The new Big Boss of Team Rocket, this is also the first and last time | | you will fight Archer. His team is lv 35-38, so you will want your | | Pokemon to be no lower then 33 or so. Unlike the other few executives,| | his Pokemon have a few more powerful attacks then normal, so it will | | be a little different. | | | | His Houndour has Faint Attack, Fire Fang, Crunch, and Roar. Fire Fang | | and Crunch are both very powerful moves, so make sure your Pokemon has| | a high defense. Roar can drag out another Pokemon, so switch them out | | if he drags out a Pokemon with low defense or a psychic/ghost/grass/ | | ice Pokemon. Houndour is weak against Fighting, Ground, Rock, and | | Water attacks, so moves like Rock Throw, Magnitude, and Surf are all | | good ones to use. | | | | Next up is Koffing. It has Sludge, Smokescreen, Tackle, and Haze. Haze| | is the only unique move that resets any positive or negative status | | increases or decreases you or Koffing might have gained. This acts as | | sort of a double edged sword, since any uses of Smokescreen can be | | negated because of this. Otherwise, use the same strategy you have | | used against Koffing in the past. | | | | Finally, there is Houndoom, which while being a more powerful and | | higher level version of Houndour, actually has worse attacks. It has | | Faint Attack, Fire Fang, Bite, and Smog. Take it out with the same | | moves you used against Houndour. | Once you beat him, he will disband team rocket once more and all the grunts will leave the Radio Tower. The manager of the radio tower will come in and thank you and give you the Rainbow or Silver Wing, depending on what version you have. There are a couple of things you can do while you are in the Radio Tower. If you talk to the woman that was near the closed shutters on the 3rd floor, she will give you TM11 (Sunny Day). If you head up on the 4th Floor where the Radio Booth is and talk to DJ Mary, she will give you the Brightpowder hold item. Also, you can get the Blue Card for the Radio Show Quiz on the second floor from the girl at the radio booth. Anywho, even though you have the Rainbow or Silver Wing, you cannot get Lugia or Ho-Oh yet, not until you beat the last gym leader. Fly back to Mahogany Town and you will find that things have, for the most part, gone back to normal. The shop where the Rocket Hideout was is now selling normal items, and you can now head East onto Route 44. There is a bunch of trainers on this route, all good for EXP. You will also notice that there is not as much grass on this route, so it might be hard to find some of the Pokemon listed above. There are two paths on this route: A upper route and a lower route. The lower route has more trainer, while the upper has less. Head east and then head up the stairs to the Ice Path. Similar to Pryce's Gym, but is a little straightforward for the first few ice parts. When you get to the big ice puzzle, go these directions: - Up, left, up, left, down, left, up, right. Once you are past that puzzle, you will find another ice puzzle you must go through. This time, it is for HM07, Waterfall. To get through that puzzle, the solution is: - Right, down, left, up, left, down, left, up, right Once you are done, head up the stairs and to the right to find a ladder leading down. Second room has a boulder puzzle. Going counterclockwise: - First boulder you press up until you cannot press it anymore, and then go around right until you are on top of the boulder and press it to the right and then down into the hole. - Second hole should have it down one, and then over left until it is near the hole and then go above it and press down and then right into the hole. - Third hole, you go to the right and find a boulder above a small ice path and push it to the left and then down until you cannot press it anymore, and then press it right, and then down three times, and then go around it and press it up once, and then press it left until it goes into the hole. - Fourth Hole, you press the boulder up twice, and then right once, and then up twice, then you go around on the other side and you press it to the right twice then head around and press it up, and then to the left until it is in the hole. After that, go down the ladder near the last hole to B2. Line up where the boulder is on the left and go left, then down, then left, and then up, then right. There is a item ball with a full heal at the end. After that, head down up the ladder, and then left and push the boulder up. You will be back up on 1F. You will see one of the Kimono girls stuck. Go down and then right ad give her a push and she will thank you and leave. After that, head down and you will be in Blackthorn City. * Note that you can only get the Full Restore once you beat Claire and get the Rising Badge Ah, Blackthorn City. There is not much you can do at this point. There is a house near the Pokemart which has the Move Deleter, the Move Re learner (Still requires a Heart Scale), Grandma Wilma who will teach your Pokemon Draco Meteor if they are the Dragon type, and a man who will teach your starters Frenzy Plant, Hydro Cannon, and Blast Burn if they like you enough. There is also a guy in a house that will trade you a Dodrio for a female Dragonair, which is a bit of a ripoff, but still a option if you want one for your Pokedex. There is also a house near the Ice Cave that has a woman inside that will give your top Pokemon a Effort Ribbon if its EVs are all maxed out. You can also go south to Route 45, but make sure you bring a Pokemon that can fly. It is good EXP, and has a few rare Pokemon. For now, lets go explore Route 45 and see what it has. Route 45 is rather different then you remember it. Taking full advantage of the D/P/Pl engine for terrain, the place is now full of various cliffs and water passages. You will also find several unique Pokemon to your version. HG users will find Gligar and Phanpy, while SS users will get Teddiursa and Skamory. There is also a bunch of trainers on this route, so it might be a good idea to raise your levels a little bit for the upcoming Gym. Keep going down to find Route 46. Now that you are on the other side of Route 46, you will find a few new |
