Walkthrough - Pokemon Gym Leaders Kanto Edition 3 first Gym LeadersBoss Fight Leader Lt. Surge $6360 Raichu Lv. 51 1,332 EXP Electrode Lv. 47 1,510 EXP Electrode Lv. 47 1,510 EXP Magneton / Lv. 47 1,621 EXP Electabuzz Lv. 53 1,771 EXP Raichu may open up the fight with Double Team, so don't waste too much time setting up otherwise you may not be able to hit the speedy Raichu! Most of his Pokemon utilize a similar strategy and also share the move Shock Wave as well, which is a fairly weak Electric-type with perfect accuracy. Ground-type Pokemon will have a blast here, as most of Lt. Surge's Pokemon's attacks will be ineffective or, in the case of his Normal-type attacks (Quick Attack, Selfdestruct, etc.), won't hurt that bad. None of his Pokemon really have a lot of powerful moves though and the annoying factor is really the only thing you need to watch for. Don't let his Pokemon's levels intimidate you. After beating Lt. Surge, he'll give you the Thunder Badge, as well as TM34 (Shock Wave). Now that you've gotten your first of the Kanto Gym Badges, make your way north to Route 6! Boss Fight Leader Sabrina $6600 Espeon Lv. 53 2,236 EXP Mr. Mime Lv. 53 1,543 EXP Alakazam Lv. 55 2,191 EXP Sabrina may not have as many Pokemon on her team as Lt. Surge, but they're much better trained and more difficult to take on. She'll lead the fight with her Espeon, which has Calm Mind and Psychic, so be very careful not to let it use more than one Calm Mind, otherwise it will be doing a lot of damage to you with Psychic! Thankfully, it will likely try to use Skill Swap first, which switches its ability (Synchronize) with your Pokemon's. It's not really a big deal most of the time, though, but just keep that in mind. Actually, all of Sabrina's Pokemon have Skill Swap. And you'll probably appreciate it when she uses it. Her Mr. Mime is a bit more of a pain. Even though it doesn't hit as hard as Espeon or Alakazam, it has Light Screen which makes it so your Special-based attackers really don't have a chance at all, and it also has fairly high Defense and Sp. Def as is. It can utilize Mimic to copy the attack you just used as long as it stays out. Thankfully that's about it. Use attacks like Bite or Crunch if you can, otherwise your strongest Physical-based attacks. Lastly is her Alakazam, which has Reflect, but it has such low Defense that you're still going to be doing a lot of damage with your Physical-based attacks. But it will hit very hard with Psychic when it uses it. Energy Ball can also take some of your Pokemon off-guard if you're not careful. Fortunately it does not have Calm Mind like Espeon does, but it does have a Sitrus Berry to heal its HP when it becomes weak. After beating Sabrina, she'll give you the Marsh Badge, as well as TM48 (Skill Swap). Not really worth it, but oh well, at least you now have your tenth Gym Badge and the second of your Kanto Badges. From here, there are several different places you can go. It's suggested that you make your way west towards Celadon City and then wrap around south to Fuchsia City. Boss Fight Leader Erika $6720 Jumpluff / Lv. 51 1,923 EXP Tangela Lv. 52 1,849 EXP Victreebel / Lv. 56 2,292 EXP Bellossom Lv. 56 2,208 EXP Erika's Jumpluff might want to use U-Turn against you after setting up a Sunny Day to boost all of her Pokemon's Speed (thanks to their Chlorophyll ability), so be wary of that! A quickly fired Fire-, Ice-, or Flying-type attack should hopefully take Jumpluff out before it can pull it off, but don't count on it if it's not from a zippy Pokemon. Tangela isn't all that threatening, but its high Defense can make it a little cumbersome to take out if you aren't using Special-based attackers. Other than that it isn't anything fancy, but Sleep Powder may annoy you. Victreebel has the powerful Leaf Storm to inflict massive amounts of Special-based damage, but it'll lower its Sp. Atk sharply afterwards so it won't be too much of a threat after that first hit. Having something resistant to Grass-type attacks will prove invaluable against both Victreebel and Bellossom. Speaking of Bellossom, it's a little sturdy and capable of using Synthesis to heal its HP by half or 2/3 when the weather is Sunny out. Not only that, but it also has a Sitrus Berry to heal its HP when it gets weak. It will be a pain to take out, but again, Pokemon resistant to Grass-type attacks will render Bellossom virtually useless except for healing. It does have SolarBeam, which it can fire off in one turn if the weather is Sunny, so be careful of that! After beating Erika, she'll relinquish TM19, which contains Giga Drain. Giga Drain does a moderate amount of damage, but it restores the user's HP by 25% of that damage. She'll also give you the Rainbow Badge, of course. Now that you've beaten Erika, why not head on south towards Fuchsia City? You'll need to go down there anyway, so now's a good time for it! Head on west of Celadon City to get onto Route 16. |
