Introduction ================== Rondo of Swords/Itsuwari no Rondo is a turn-based strategy RPG, copyrighted and developed by Success/Fun Unit, and is licensed to and published by Atlus U.S.A. Inc. This guide was written by me, Kikuichimonjii at GameFAQs. This is my second guide, and the second for Rondo of Swords. I'm still new to the guide writing business, so if you see any mistakes, let me know via email or through the boards at GameFAQs. If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments, you can contact me the same way. This guide was written to provide a more detailed description of skills in Rondo of Swords, and to help skill planning. ======================== II. Basics of Skills ======================== When a character in Rondo of Swords reaches 100 EXP, they will level up, gaining an increase in some stats and 2 skill points. While stats are not customizable, skills are, and how well you do in Rondo of Swords is dependent on how you choose to spend your skill points. Though you receive 2 skill points per level up, it does not mean that you can level up 2 skills. Skills have five levels, each costing more skill points to upgrade than the last. Costs are the same for all skills: Level 1: 1 point Level 2: 2 points Level 3: 4 points Level 4: 6 points Level MAX: 8 points As you can see, to max out a skill, you will need 21 skill points in total. That's right, it takes ten and a half levels just to max out one skill. Don't worry though, only a handful of skills are worth getting anyway, the rest are useless. To manage your skills, you must first have access to the pre-battle preparation screen, which is available starting from chapter X. Select formation, highlight a character, press X, and choose Skills. The first option will let you spend skill points. The second option will let you set skills which you have learned. Remember: Putting points into a skill does nothing until you set it! To set a skill, choose "Set Skills" and choose the skills you want with the A button. When you're done, press X. If you press B, set or removed skills will not be saved. Also keep in mind that only a maximum of 12 skills can be set at any time. It should be noted that some characters come with skills points when recruited, and some already have some skills. In a New Game+, any character you recruited in a previous playthrough will come with 99 skills points right off the bat, and have all their default class skills available. Serdic will have all the skills from his second class as well as first class. However, their skills will be reset to 0, so no, you can't just play through lots of times to max out all skills. :P Some skills are active skills, that is, you must select it in battle to use it. To do this, select a character on the field, and choose either "Skill" or "Magic" to use them. I have listed skills in the following format: #. Name of skill Description Characters that can learn the skill* Comments It will not be in alphabetical order. The game has ordered skills by type and I will order them the same way they would be if it were shown in the game. There are around 180 different skills programmed into Rondo of Swords, but most are unavailable to your characters and are listed for the sake of completion. *Character name and level at which the skill is learnt. Some skills are only learnt after class promotion. In addition, some characters come pre-promoted, such as Alicia and Naji, but I will be referring to their final class as "third class" even though they technically only have two classes. Also, Serdic is a special case. Because his promotion is forced by the plot, it is actually possible to promote at a low level if you've been too lazy to level him up. Because of this, Serdic's first class skills are also in both his second class skill lists, to prevent any missed skills. One last thing to note: The earliest you can promote a character is at levels 15 and 30 for their second and third classes, respectively. You will NOT lose any skills if you choose to promote later than at those levels. ====================== III. Stat Boosting ====================== These are simple passive stat up skills that give bonus points to stats without a drawback. When doing calculations, all final numbers with decimals are rounded down. --------------- 1. Bonus given is 10%*Skill LV. For example: Level MAX Will of War heals 25% of HP of a unit which passes through the character. With level MAX Valor Bonds (50% bonus), the HP healed is now 25*1.5 rounded down, equalling 37%. Just so we're clear, IT IS NOT 25%+50%=75%! The % refers to the percentage of the original number. ----------- 13. War Cry ----------- Description: Increases support benefits given to allies Learned by: None -Unobtainable skill. Just an interesting note: If you somehow have both Valor Bonds and War Cry on a character, these two skills will stack, meaning it is possible to have support bonuses doubled. ----------- 14. ZOC =========== These are skills related to Zone of Control, better known as ZOC. ZOC prevents enemy units from passing through the unit. ZOC is a very important skill, so much that there is even a section in the tutorial explaining ZOC. Unfortunately , ZOC is only learned by three playable characters, Serdic, Margus, and Aegil, and Serdic only learns ZOC in Path B. Furthermore, ZOC is useless on Aegil because of her poor HP and terrible DEF stats. Bottom line: Margus is the only viable user of ZOC if you choose path A first. ------- 19. ZOC ------- Description: Prevents enemies from passing through the unit Learned by: Margus LV 9, Serdic (Cold Monarch) LV 27, Aegil (third class) LV 30 -Does exactly what the description says. As far as I know, ZOC works 100% at any level, and is only increased to counter Null ZOC. When a unit is blocked by ZOC, they pushed to a specific square regardless of their original path. This is the pattern followed if squares are occupied: |13| |14|5 |15| |16|6 |1 |7 |17| |18|8 |2 |X |3 |9 |19| |20|10|4 |11|21| |22|12|23| |24| X is the tile occupied by the unit with ZOC. The numbers indicate the order of squares in which a unit will be deflected to, for example, if squares 1 and 2 are occupied, then the unit will be deflected to the square directly east of the unit. Sometimes a unit with ZOC might counter-attack. In this situation, the ZOC pattern does not apply, the unit attacking will be deflected to the closest empty square on their original path. ------------ 20. ZOC Gift ------------ Description: Prevents enemies from passing through an ally unit Learned by: None -Unobtainable skill. ------------ 21. Support ============== These are skills that give bonuses to units when they pass through a character. In order for these to work, the unit with the skill must not have already moved . In addition, these skills are temporary. Their bonuses end as soon as the unit stops moving. All of these skills are stackable with each other, though only one will be shown if a character has more than of these skills equipped. ------------- 36. (Confirmation needed) ======================== X. Additional Effects ======================== These skills add certain effects to your attacks. They include draining HP, cutting MP, and inflicting status effects. All these skills are stackable, however, a unit can only have one status effect at a time. If a unit has multiple status inflicting skills, certain ones take priority over other ones. A rough order, from high priority to low priority: Clumsy Leak Dazed Sap Glass Tired Crazed Scared Stuck Timid For example, if Sasha has First Strike (Timid) and Befuddle (Dazed) set, and they both activate, the enemy unit will end up with Dazed status because Dazed is higher on the priority list. One thing to note: Most of the unobtainable status inflicting skills can be found on certain enemy units.
