Forging is a feature available in Rune Factory 2 only after reaching the
second Generation stage of the game by getting married, having a child, and
building the school. Once achieving all of that, Generation 2 begins seven
years later and you are now controlling your child. All of the tools you had
in the first Generation are now old and rusty and no where near as effective
as they were when Kyle had them. Any weapons you might have obtained during
first Generation will still be intact, but there are now better options
available from Tanya's shop on the far East end of town.
Once Generation 2 begins you now have the option of expanding the school by
talking to Mayor Byron in his home between 9am and 6pm and choosing "I'd
like to expand the school." There are three possible upgrades available to
you now: The Library, where you can find several magic books, the Dojo,
where you can train against monsters while being observed by Barrett,
and the Workshop, which is the most important addition as far as this FAQ
is concerned. Each addition will cost 10,000G and 100 lumber, which should
be a nonissue at this point unless you seriously slacked off in Generation 1.
Once you have the Workshop built (Mayor Byron will hire his miracle
construction team and have it up the next day) find Yue in Alvarna - North
Square on Monday between 9am and 5pm and select the option:
"I'm looking for a bargain." After selecting that Yue will bring up a list
of available utilities for the newly created Workshop. Buy the Forge from
her and any other things you might want for the Workshop (Pharmacy,
Large/Small Kitchen, etc.).
Congratulations! You are now ready to begin your new career as a blacksmith.
In addition to the basic forging of tools and weapons, Rune Factory 2 has
implemented a new system of strengthening weapons, upgrading their levels and
making them more efficient in battle. Strengthening weapons sometimes requires
no additional materials, but most strengthening efforts do require you to add
materials to the weapons to make them stronger. These materials are almost
exclusively metals found through mining in the four seasonal dungeons.
The Workshop can be found by moving one screen to the right once entering
the School. There are no specific utensils used in Forging, all you need to
do to forge is to have the required materials (up to 6 per recipe) and place
them in the specified boxes and select "OK."

When Skilling up Forging, the easiest method is to simply get a weapon that
you can strengthen and keep at it until your skill is capped for that item.
Weapons can only reach a maximum of level 10, but skill can still be obtained
by continued strengthening of a level 10 weapon, even though the weapon will
not be changed in any way after reaching that 10th level.
