2. Introduction
===============
Welcome to version 1.75 of the Super Mario 64 DS video game guide! I have
additional tips, strategies, secrets, and glitches, enough to keep someone
occupied for a long time. I have thoroughly enjoyed writing this guide, and
I hope that it helps you. Now, searching through long documents such as
this can be trying, so there is an easy way to find exactly what you are
looking for. Go to the Table of Contents above, and decide what section of
the guide you are looking for. Click on Edit in the toolbar at the top of
the screen (if your computer has one), and go to Find. Type in what you are
looking for [exactly as it appears in the table of contents ( h). Shifting
Sand Land, V. Wario's Mini-Games, etc. )] and then click Find. It will
take you exactly where you want to go. Useful, isn't it? Anyway, I have
packed this newer version full of addition tips and information, and I have
also gone more in-depth for a few power stars. It has what you want to know
and more. Enjoy!
--------------------
The Classic is Back!
--------------------
Mario returns yet again to Mushroom Kingdom to save the day! Upon receiving
an invitation from Princess Toadstool, Mario and his two friends, Luigi and
Wario, head to the castle. When they arrive there, however, they learn that
Bowser has taken Princess Toadstool and the castle's power stars. What is
worse, they too are imprisoned by Bowser. Has Bowser succeeded in taken
over Mushroom Kingdom?
There is but one hope for the kingdom, and that is Yoshi. He was asleep on
the castle while Mario and his friends were captured, and now it is up to
him to save his friends. Yoshi must venture through the castle, head into
the mysterious paintings on the walls, free his friends, and save the
kingdom from Bowser's evil rule.

3. Version History
==================
Version 0.1: This version never appeared on GameFAQs or any other game
guide site because it was donned 'incomplete.' It had the first world and
Controls section completed, as well as all the other basic parts needed for
an FAQ. It did appear on a personal website that I had for a short period
of time until I fully finished the guide.
Version 1.0: This version was the completed version of my game guide. It
had walkthroughs on all 150 power stars (though about 10 of those
walkthroughs were meager), a Controls section, a Secrets section, and a
Bowser Battles section (though the latter had little information in it).
Version 1.5: Unsatisfied with the first completed version, I resolved make
a version 1.5 almost as soon as I finished my first version. However, I did
not complete version 1.5 until around two months later. It added a lot to
the guide. First, I improved a few of the meager level walkthroughs that
were in my first version. I also added the Quick Walkthrough section for
people who just wanted a little information on how to earn the power stars.
The Warps section and Secrets and Glitches section were also added in this
version. The original Secrets section was renamed the Unlockables section
because of the many e-mails that I received asking how to unlock various
characters. I also fixed several typos and other grammatical problems that
I discovered.
Version 1.6: In this version I added the Moves Information and Items
sections. I added a few new secrets and glitches and also wrote in-depth
walkthroughs for a couple of levels that were lacking in description. In
this update I also added my Mini-Game FAQ to this FAQ so that the many
websites who had gained permission to use my FAQ/Walkthrough would not need
to clutter my inbox with additional requests to use my Mini-Game FAQ.
Version 1.65 Not worthy enough to improve a full tenth, version 1.65 only
added a few things to the guide. It added an in-depth walkthrough for the
Bowser in the Fire Sea level, fixed a few typos, and added in-depth
walkthroughs to a couple more of the information deprived power star
walkthroughs.
Version 1.7 In-depth information on completing Bowser in the Sky was added
for this walkthrough, as well in-depth walkthroughs for a couple more
levels.
Version 1.75 I finally decided to put my version history into my FAQ for
all to read, and I also did some work on improving strategies, making more
in-depth level walkthroughs, and fixing typos. I added the Touch Draw
section and all three control modes.
Version 1.8 Corrected a major error regarding the red coins in the courtyard,
and I also added a versus mode.

4. FAQs
=======
If you have questions about the game, check out this section first. This
sections answers many of the common questions people have about the game,
and it discusses other general things about the game.
Q: Where is the ? switch that makes invisible ? boxes solid?
A: Go to the circle in the main room of the castle when you have 14 power
stars and look into the sky. If you need more help, the full answer is in
the Unlockables section of the guide, so look there.
Q: I have at least fourteen stars, and light is now coming down from the
sky to the circle on the floor. I stand on the circle and press A or B.
Instead of warping me to another level, the game brings up a text box that
says "A voice from above is saying, 'Hey... Mario...'" Isn't it supposed to
warp me to a secret world?
A: The problem is that you are pressing the A or B button when you stand on
the circle. Instead, press the X button and look up at the sun. That will
take you to the other world.
Q: Are there any warps in this game?
A: Yes, there are several warps in this game. They make it easy to travel
from one place to another. Some of warps make levels much easier, while
other warps are just there to make traveling quicker. There is a list of
warps in this FAQ, but that is not the easiest way to learn the locations
of warps. If you want the easiest way to learn about warps locations, visit
our web site since we have pictures and descriptions of many of the warps.
Q: I cannot find a character cap in a level, and I need to turn into that
character to collect a certain power star. How do I make that cap appear?
A: You can find caps in several levels that allow you to turn into a
character before you unlock that character. However, character caps will
not appear in many levels until you unlock the character that they belong
to. If you need to turn into a certain character to complete a challenge,
and that character's cap is not in the level, then you will just have to
wait until you unlock that character to complete that challenge. When you
unlock a character, their cap appears in all of the levels, so you can
easily switch to them whenever you want to.
Q: What happens if I lose my cap?
A: Two negative things happen if you lose your cap. First, whenever you
open a ? box a Bob-omb will come out. You will not be able to use power
flowers or feathers because a Bob-omb will come out instead. Also, the
damage you receive will increase by 50%. If an enemy would normally give
you two damage, he will give you three damage if you do not have your cap.
If you lose your cap you can always find it in the place where you lost it,
so make sure that you get your cap back as soon as possible.
Q: I can't get through the door with a keyhole that is in the main room of
the castle! How do I get in there?
A: To get into that door, you have to get the key the unlocks it. To get
the key, you must defeat Bowser in the Fire Sea. Bowser in the Dark World
also gives you a key, but it only unlocks the basement door. Check out the
Bowser Battles section if you want to know more.
Q: Does anything special happen if I collect all 150 stars?
A: Yes. Nintendo would not just leave you completely empty-handed after
collecting 150 stars, so they threw in a few special extras for you to try
out when you retrieved 150 stars. The next few sentences will contain
spoilers, so leave now if you don't want to learn what happens. First, the
cannon outside the castle will open up, and you can get in it and shoot to
the top of the castle. At the top of the castle you will find a ? box,
which will have a feather in it if you are Mario and a power flower if you
are anyone else. The special items do not help you with anything, but they
are fun to play around with. Three green mushrooms are also at the top of
the castle, and if you go there as Luigi you will find your eighth rabbit.
Also when you earn all 150 stars, the third Bowser will say something
different if you fight him. The penguin that you race in Cool, Cool
Mountain will put on weight, making him harder to defeat. That's about it.
The special triple jump and the walkway up to the top of the castle were
taken out in this version, so you cannot earn them.

6. Moves Information
====================
Walk: This is a basic move, but it is important. If you walk for a short
period of time, your character will start walking fast. Walking will get
you just about everywhere that you need to go, so take full advantage of
this move.
Run: Running helps speed up the game. Since it increases the game speed and
allows you to do things quicker, you should spend most of your time
running. Running also allows you to jump further, and you need to run to
perform several of you moves.
Crawl: The crawl is by far the slowest method of transportation. When you
use the crawl, you character will slowly crawl to their destination. There
is virtually no use for this move in this game; walking is slow enough as
it is.
Swim: Swimming is a useful technique, though it is only used in the water
(go figure). If you need to get somewhere by going through water, you
definitely need to swim. Press forward and B to dive into the water, and
then use the D-Pad to swim in various direction. If you hold down B you
will do the flutter kick, a useful move that propels you through the water
at slow speeds. Since the flutter kick is slow, it is best if you press B
repeatedly to do the breast stroke, a much faster means of transportation.
When you are ready to exit the water, go to the surface and press backward
and B.
Crouch: Crouching in itself has almost no use. You virtually never have to
crouch for anything. Crouching does allow you to perform several other
moves, so it is important in that aspect.
Talk to People: Talking is important in this game. By talking to characters
you can learn a lot of information. Maybe someone will even give you a
power star if you talk to them-you never know.
Read Signs: Reading signs is an important skill. While signs usually do not
provide tips on power star locations, they do provide useful information
throughout the game.
Pick up and Throw Objects: Picking up and throwing objects are two
extremely important moves in this game (you cannot defeat Bowser without
using them). With the ability to throw objects, you can easily defeat a
variety of enemies that you could not defeat with a simple punch.
Jump: This is a basic move, but it is extremely important. Jumping allows
you to get across small gaps and obstacles that are in your way, and it is
an effective way to eliminate many enemies. Keep you finger over the jump
button at all times.
Continuous Jump: The continuous jump is a great way to gain height. You can
perform the continuous jump while standing still or while jumping, so it
allows you to reach a variety of areas easily.
Triple Jump: The triple jump gives you an amazing amount of height and
speed, but its usefulness is diminished since you can only use it when you
are running. If you do manage to find a good area where you can use the
triple jump, you will be able to use it to get into high areas.
Backward Somersault: Even though you can only use this technique when you
are standing still and facing backwards, it is a excellent move. It gives
you a little more height than the continuous jump, allowing you to get to
areas higher up. The backward somersault is also an effective way to get
behind enemies that are running at you. Luigi's backward somersault is
amazingly high and he spins when he descends. Because Luigi's backward
somersault is so effective, you should use it as your main way to get to
higher and farther places. Use Luigi's backward somersault over his triple
jump; Luigi's backward somersault is better.
Long Jump: If you need to cross a large gap, the long jump is the way to
go. The long jump allows you to jump a long distance with minimal running
time. The long jump is also faster than running, so use it to get to places
quickly.
Sideways Somersault: The sideways somersault has little usefulness in this
game. It is a useful move against enemies like Bowser, but besides that
there is little use for it. Pulling off the move is a challenge in itself,
so stick with other moves that are more reliable and easier to use.
Flutter Kick: Yoshi is the only character that can use the flutter kick,
and without it he could not even compete with the other characters. The
flutter kick allows you to get a little more height and a lot more distance
out of your jumps. You can go further using the flutter kick than you can
using the long jump, so use the flutter kick to go across large gaps.
Whether you need an extra bit of height, want to go further in your jumps,
or you need both height and distance combined, the flutter kick is the way
to go.
Scuttle: Scuttle is Luigi's way of gaining more distance. If you hold down
B when you jump, Luigi will scuttle as he descends. The scuttle slows
Luigi's descent by a small amount, allowing him to gain more distance. The
farther you fall the less effective the scuttle is, and it will not protect
you from fall damage.
Jump Kick: The jump kick is possibly the best overall move in the game,
although it is frequently overlooked. Every character besides Yoshi can use
the jump kick. You can use the jump kick to eliminate enemies in the air
and to knock over large objects. Besides attacking, you can also use the
jump kick as a jumping move. When you perform the jump kick, your character
will push himself forward. This allows him to gain more distance. Since the
jump kick gives you more distance, it is useful for getting across larger
gaps. You can also use it after things such as Luigi's scuttle and the
continuous jump, giving you maximum distance for your jumps. The only
negative things about using the jump kick for additional distance is you
will stop for half of a second when you land; you cannot immediately
continue running.
Wall Kick: If you need height, the wall kick is the way to go. Even though
Mario is the only one who can use this move, it is a useful move. The
height that you can gain from it is only limited by the height of the walls
that you are jumping against. It is a great move for getting up into
various areas, especially if it is used with the triple jump.
Ground Pound: The ground pound is great as an aerial attack. You can use it
to attack enemies from a unique direction, and you can use it to destroy
various objects. The ground pound is particularly effective against ghosts;
you do not have to worry about whether they are invisible or not when you
attack them.
Punch: Punching is a useful technique that every character besides Yoshi
can use. Punching allows you to eliminate many types of enemies, and it is
useful in completing several challenges. You can also open up blocks with
punches. Since the range of a punch is so small, it is best used as a way
of opening boxes and solving puzzles instead of defeating enemies.
Kick: The kick has virtually no use whatsoever. It is about as strong as a
regular punch, so there is no reason why you should use it. You also cannot
move forward much when you use the kick, so it is almost useless for
attacking enemies.
Trip: The trip is a cool move, but its usefulness is limited. Since you
cannot move when you are going to use it, you usually have to wait for an
enemy to come up to you before you can attack them with it. It is useful as
a quick attack after you crawl toward an enemy, but you may not want to
crawl since crawling is so slow.
Slide Kick: The slide kick is a useful, modified version of the slide. It
is perhaps the best fast attack to use against an enemy. When you run at an
enemy, all you need to do is to perform the slide kick to eliminate them.
You can also control the slide kick better than the slide attack, making it
the more useful of the two attacks. Press B when you are finished with the
attack to get up quickly.
Slide Attack: While you have minimal control while using the slide attack,
there are many times when you would want to use it. It has longer range
than the slide kick, making it a useful attack for enemies that are far
away. You lose control for short amount of time when you use it, but you
can regain control quicker if you press B when you want to get up. It is
also easier in terms of finger position to use the slide attack, so it you
will probably use it as your main ranged attack. The slide attack also
gives you additional distance after jumps, so use it if you want a little
more distance. It is the only distance-enhancing move that you can use
after the triple jump, making it useful for high distance moves. Also, no
matter what height you did it from, you will not receive damage if you land
with the slide attack. It is perfect for high fall situations. You can also
use it to attack enemies from above.
Swallow: Swallowing is Yoshi's main form of attack. From enemies to coins,
to power stars, to caps, to boxes, Yoshi can swallow almost anything. When
you have an enemy in your mouth you can spit it back out by pressing A
again. An enemy will usually die when you spit it out, and you can also use
it to hurt other enemies.
Lay Eggs: When you have an enemy in your mouth, you can swallow it and lay
an egg. You can shoot eggs straight across flat surface, and they will
destroy any enemies that they come in contact with. When you defeat an
enemy with an egg, you will receive coins for the enemy you defeated as
well as for the enemy that you turned into an egg. Occasionally you will
receive additional coins when you defeat an enemy with an egg.
Climb: Whether it's a pole or a tree, climbing is the best way to get up
it. You can climb up poles and other objects, allowing you to reach great
heights. Climbing is a necessity in several of the levels, so learn how to
use it effectively. Certain objects will reward you if you climb them, so
climb to the top of anything you grab onto to see if there is a reward.
========
7. Items
========
Throughout your journey, you will encounter many items that will help you.
Each item does different things that will aid you. In case you are
wondering what each item does, here is a list.
Yellow Coin
Increases your coin counter by one. Collect fifty yellow coins in a single
level to earn a life, or one hundred coins in a regular level to earn a
power star.
Red Coin
A red coin is worth two yellow coins, so it increases your coin counter by
two. Collect 8 red coins in a single course to earn a power star.
Blue Coin
A blue coin is worth five yellow coins, so it increases your coins counter
by five. You can find blue coins by pounding in blue coins switches and
defeating more powerful enemies. If you are small, you receive blue coins
from pounding Goombas.
Silver Star
Silver stars are found in a few levels. Collect five of them in a level to
earn a power star.
Power Star
These protect Princess Peach's Castle, but Bowser has taken them. Collect
power stars to advance through levels and restore peace to the castle.
There are 150 power stars altogether.
Green Mushroom
When you take a green mushroom, your life counter will increase by one.
Green mushrooms are found in hard-to-find places in levels and in boxes.
You may also receive green mushrooms for performing certain tasks.
Red Mushroom
Red mushrooms are found in many of the levels. When you get one, you will
grow to an enormous size. Since you are so large, you can easily destroy
enemies and other things that you could not usually destroy by simply
walking through them. Whenever you destroy something when you are large, a
number will appear. The number will increase whenever you destroy
something. When the number reaches 8, you will receive an extra life for
each additional enemy that you destroy.
Koopa Shell
These are found in many boxes, but you can also get them by defeating a
Koopa. When you step on a Koopa shell, you will start to ride it. On the
Koopa shell, you cannot take damage from smaller enemies. Instead, you can
ride right through them. When you are riding a Koopa shell, you can also
surf over lava and water, making travel much quicker. Collide into a wall
or large enemy and you will lose the Koopa shell. You can also press R
while you are riding to make Koopa shell to disappear.
Sometimes Koopa shells appear underwater. If you find a Koopa shell
underwater, press A next to it to pick it up. It will start glowing and
moving through the water. When you are holding a Koopa shell underwater,
you only need to use the D-Pad to move around. The Koopa shell only lasts
for a short time however, making it virtually useless.
Feather
Take the feather, and you will get wings. Jump three times in a row (you do
not need to run), and you will start to fly. Be careful though, the feather
only lasts a short while.
Power Flower
When you get a power flower, you will receive a special ability depending
on which character you are. Yoshi will breathe fire, Mario will float,
Luigi will turn invisible, and Wario will turn into metal. Remember, the
power flower only lasts a short while.
Cap
Even though your character starts out with their cap on, it is still an
item. Caps decrease the amount of damage that you receive. Lose your cap,
and the damage that you take will increase by fifty percent! If you lose
your cap, you will no longer receive a power flower when you destroy a ?
box. Instead, you will get a Bob-omb. If you lose your cap, you can always
find it at the place where you lost it. If you lose your cap and then
collect a power star in a level besides the level where you lost your cap,
the Toad in the main room will get your cap and will wear it. Talk to the
Toad to get your cap back. Also, if you take the cap of another character,
you will transform into that character.

8. Area Walkthroughs
====================
In order to enter the castle, you must first retrieve the key from the
rabbit. The rabbit is hiding in the hedges, just to the left of where you
start off. Run after him and swallow him. He will then give you the key to
the castle. He will not appear until you go to the castle door, so make
sure you stop there first.

A. Bob-omb Battlefield - Course 1
=================================
Once you enter the castle, go to the far left and up the small set of
stairs. Go into the door, and you will enter a room with a painting of Bob-
ombs on the wall. Jump into that painting to enter this course.
---------------------------------
Star 1: Big Bob-omb on the Summit
---------------------------------
Recommended Character: Yoshi
In this level, you need to defeat the evil King Bomb-omb. You will begin on
a path with several purple Bomb-ombs around you. Start by heading up the
path towards the bridge. If any Goombas get in your way, defeat them by
jumping on their heads. Go up the bridge and continue to follow the path,
which will turn to the left. Keep following the path past the Chain Chomp
and across the bridge that tilts when you walk on it. Be careful not to
fall off the bridge. If you do, go back along the wall until you get back
to the path. From there go up the slanted bridge and head back to where you
fell off.
Once you are past the tilting bridge, you will find stairs that are too
steep for you to walk up. Jump over them onto the next large area. Turn
towards the right and head to the mountain. Do not fall into the valley,
but go across the path that spans the valley and leads to the mountain.
When you get to the mountain, turn right and you will see a small pit with
large balls rolling in it. Make your way carefully through the pit until
you once again reach the path.
Keep following the path up the mountain, being careful to dodge or jump
over the balls that continuously roll down the mountain. Soon you will see
an indentation in the mountain where balls come out to roll down the
mountain. Go into it (when you are near it no balls come out), and stand
motionless inside it for a couple seconds. You will then warp into another
indentation higher up in the mountain. Walk out of it and follow the path
up to the top of the mountain.
At the top you will encounter King Bomb-omb and he will challenge you to a
fight. Move away from him and wait until he throws a small Bob-omb at you.
Pick it up (or swallow it), then throw it back at the King Bob-omb. If you
hit him the explosion will knock him onto his back, and will pound the
ground several times. Stay away from him while he does this. When he gets
back up, prepare to pick up the next Bob-omb he will throw at you. Once you
have hit him three times with his own Bob-ombs (as long as you have not
left the mountain top) he will claim defeat and give you a power star.
-------------------------------------
Star 2: Footrace with Koopa the Quick
-------------------------------------
Recommended Character: Mario
When you begin the level, head over to where Koopa the Quick is standing.
You need to be Mario to do this. If you are another character, you will
need to find the Mario cap. To find the Mario cap, run along the path and
go across the slanted bridge. At the top of the slanted bridge, keep going
forward until you are in the grassy field. You will find the Mario cap in
that field. After you put on the Mario cap, head back to the beginning of
the level where Koopa is waiting.
Talk to Koopa, and he will challenge you to a race to the top of the
mountain. When you accept his offer the race begins. The route is simple;
just follow the path to the top of the mountain that you took in the
previous level (Big Bob-Omb on the Summit). Be careful when you go through
warps. If Koopa the Quick sees you go through a warp, he will accuse you of
cheating at the end of the race. As long as he does not see you, you are
safe when you go through warps. When you get to the top of the mountain,
you will see a flag. Run over to the flag in order to complete the race. If
you were faster than Koopa then you will receive a power star; if you were
not then you will lose. One more thing: if you had to wear the Mario cap in
order to race Koopa, need to still have the cap on when you get to the top
of the mountain. If do not have it on, you will lose the race.
-----------------------
Star 3: 5 Silver Stars!
-----------------------
Recommended Character: None
This is a unique challenge that was added in. In it you must collect five
silver stars in order to unlock a power star. As you start off, walk over
to the beginning of the path. You will see the glass enclosure that the
power star will appear in. After taking note of it, keep heading up the
path. Above the tree that is closet to the bridge, there is a silver star.
Jump onto the tree, and then climb up it. When you reach the top, press up
once more to do a handstand. After that, jump and you will receive your
first silver star.
Keep going down the path. Once you have passed the slanted bridge, jump
over the fence and head into the large field. In the field you will see
Chain Chomp running around wildly. His chain is still connected to him. At
the very end of the chain is a silver star. Run up to where Chain Chomp is.
When he passes you, run after him and perform several long jumps. Keep
doing this until you have caught up with Chain Chomp and have taken your
next silver star.
With two silver stars in your control, head across the field and back onto
the path. Keep going as if you were headed to the top of the mountain.
Immediately after you have crossed the tilting bridge, turn left and head
onto the grassy area with a few trees on it. In the midst of a small group
of four trees, there is a Goomba. Go over to it and jump on its head. When
the Goomba is defeated it will produce the third silver star.
Next, jump onto the slightly higher area and run straight across it. Near
the end of this higher field, in one of the flower beds, you will discover
the fourth silver star. Once you have that power star in your hands, start
heading up the mountain. In the first large grassy area you encounter, off
to the right of the path, there are two Goombas. One of them has the final
silver star, so jump on its head in order to defeat it. When the Goomba is
gone, take the final silver star and the power star will appear. All you
need to do now is to retrieve the power star. Jump over the fence that is
next to the grassy area; you will fall down to the field where Chain Chomp
is. Head back to the path and follow it back to the beginning. Jump at the
glass enclosure in order to break it and retrieve the power star.

Star 4: Big Bob-omb's Revenge
-----------------------------
Recommended Character: Mario
In this battle, King Bob-omb, angered by his previous defeat, challenges
you to a rematch. In this fight you will need to pick up and throw the
king. However, Yoshi is unable to perform these actions. If you are Yoshi,
head up the mountain, but do not go into the warp. Instead, go past the
warp and you will find a Goomba wearing Mario's hat. Defeat the Goomba and
take Mario's hat. That will transform you into Mario, allowing you to fight
King Bob-omb.
As with the other battle, you will need to get to the top of the mountain.
Start by heading up the path, and go up the slanted bridge. When you are at
the top of the bridge, turn right and jump over the fence. From there, walk
into the flower bed and stand still. You will warp across the level, all
the way to another flower bed. The entrance to the mountain is close to
that flower bed, so head to the mountain. Follow the path all the way up
the mountain until you reach the top of the mountain.
At the top of the mountain, you will encounter King Bob-omb. He will
challenge you to a rematch. Run in circles around him until you manage to
get behind him. Pick him up from behind and throw him. Be careful not to
throw him off the mountain, or else he will jump back on and lecture you
about how it is wrong to throw the king out of the ring. He will not take
damage if he is thrown off of the mountain. Each time you successfully hurt
him he will increase his speed, but you can still easily run behind him and
grab him. If you throw him on the ground three consecutive times, (without
leaving the top of the mountain) you will defeat him. He will disappear,
leaving a power star. Jump into the power star to retrieve it.
------------------------------
Star 5: Mario Wings to the Sky
------------------------------
Recommended Character: Mario
This level requires the use of the cannon, and it is much easier to do if
you have turned the ? boxes solid. First of all, go up to the purple Bomb-
omb that is next to the cannon plate and talk to him. If you talk to the
correct Bomb-omb, he will open all the cannons in this level for you. When
you have finished talking with the Bob-omb, head straight up the path and
go across the slanted bridge. Instead of following the path to the left,
keep going forward. Turn slightly right as you go. Soon you will see a
large rock with a flat top. The top of the rock holds an entrance to a
cannon. Go up to the top, and go into the cannon hole. The cannon will come
up, and you will enter cannon view.
Start by looking towards the mountain. In front of the mountain, a little
to the left, is an island in the sky. Aim your cannon at the part of the
island that is closest to the cannon, and then point the cannon upward as
high as it will go. Shoot out of it and you will land on the island.
Once you are on the island, get the wing cap from the ? box. With the wing
cap on, go into the cannon. In your sight you will see several groups of
coins. There is a circle of gold coins that are around a center gold coin.
Shoot towards the center gold coins. When you are in the air, maneuver
around to collect the center gold coins. When it is almost time for the
wing to disappear, quickly fly back to the island. Get the wing cap once
again, and repeat the process. Keep on doing this until you have gotten all
five of the middle gold coins in the five groups. After that a power star
will appear. Simply fly over to the power star and retrieve it to complete
the level. Keep in mind that retrieving all five of the gold coins is
difficult. It may require numerous attempts, but with perseverance you can
complete this level.
----------------------------
Star 6: Find the 8 Red Coins
----------------------------
Recommended Character: None
This is the first mission where you have to collect all of the eight red
coins in a level. As usual, start by heading up the path. Instead of going
up the bridge, go to the left of the bridge. You will come across two
platforms that are going up and down in a circular motion. Jump onto one of
the platforms and ride it to the top. The first red coin is at the top.
After retrieving the first red coin, jump onto the main land (do not fall
back down). Run straight, going just to the right of the Chain Chomp's
area. There is a rock with a red coin on the top of it. Simply run up the
rock to retrieve the red coin.
Once you have retrieved that coin, head to the cannon you used in the
previous level to shoot to the island in the sky. Inside the cannon, shoot
once again to the island. When you arrive, you will see a red coin above
the tree on the island. Climb up to the top to the tree to get it. If you
are not high enough when you get to the top, press up again to do a
handstand on the tree. That will give you enough height. Press down to get
down from the tree. After that, head back to where the Chain Chomp is. Just
above the post that the Chain Chomp is chained to there is a red coin. As
soon as the Chain Chomp jumps at you, run up to the post and get the red
coin. Once the red coin is in your control, run back to the path to get
away from the Chain Chomp's reach.
Continue on just as if you were heading to the top of the mountain and go
across the tilting bridge. Instead of jumping up the stairs, however, turn
left and run to the area where the four posts are. There is a blue star on
the ground; this is where the star will appear once you get all eight red
coins. On either side of the blue star is a red coin; get both of them and
head back to the path. Jump up the stairs. Now, instead of heading across
the gray stone bridge, run past it and go into the small valley just behind
it. From there, go under the stone bridge. There is a red coin there, as
well as a switch that will open up the gates. Do not go through the gates;
go back up to the top of the stone bridge and head to the mountain.
Once you are next to the mountain, do not turn right to go through the pit
with the balls in it. Instead, go to the left and start heading up the
grassy incline. There is a red coin on it. You will slow down when going up
the incline, but do not jump or try any other moves. Doing that will cause
you to slide back down to the bottom. Just keep running (or walking as you
get higher) until you reach the red coin. When you have the final red coin,
the blue star you encountered earlier will produce a power star right above
it. Slide down the slope, and leave the mountain. Run across the grassy
plain until you reach the area with the power star. Go to the power star to
complete the level.
---------------------------------
Star 7: Behind Chain Chomp's Gate
---------------------------------
Recommended Characters: Luigi or Wario
You may have noticed this power star in previous levels. It is tucked away
in the small cage behind the Chain Chomp. Start by heading up the path
until you reach the Chain Chomp. As soon as he jumps at you, run to the
post he is chained to. Instead of merely getting the red coin that is
there, jump above the post and pound it into the ground. It will go a short
way into the ground each time you pound it. Keep pounding it until Chain
Chomp gets ready to jump at you again, then quickly run away. Continue to
do this until the post is completely in the ground. Wario can pound the
entire post into the ground after pounding it just once, so this level is
easiest with him. After the post is completely in the ground, Chain Chomp
will be free to roam wherever he wants. He will smash down the gate,
allowing you to get the power star inside of it.
If you are Luigi, there is another way that you can get this power star.
When you begin the level, run just to the right of the slanted bridge. You
will find a ? box. Break it open, and take the power flower that is inside
of it. With the power flower, Luigi will become invisible. Run over to
where the Chain Chomp is. Since you are invisible, you can run into the
cage without worrying about the Chain Chomp.
-------------------
100 Coin Power Star
-------------------
Recommended Character: Mario
To get the final power star in this level you will need to collect 100
coins. There are well over 100 coins in the level, so accomplishing this
task should not be that difficult. When you start the level, destroy the
brick box by pounding it. It will give you coins. From there, go under the
first bridge you would normally cross. There are several coins under it.
Before heading up the bridge, travel through the valley area, getting near
the Bomb-ombs so they will light their fuses and run after you. Run away
from them so that when they explode you do not get hurt. Once they are
destroyed, go back to where they exploded and take the few coins they leave
behind.
Head back to the main path and destroy the few Goombas there. Once you
cross the first bridge take a right, heading off the normal path. A Koopa
is there, as well as a few Goombas. The Goombas will give you a coin when
you destroy them, and the Koopa will give you a blue coin, worth five
yellow ones. You will find many coins in the place where you get the star
for collecting all eight red coins (across the tilting bridge that is
immediately after the Chain Chomp, and to the left). When you are near the
star, get the few coins lying on the ground. Destroy the few Goombas to get
their coins. Next, go to the short poles sticking out of the ground near
the blue star. Do not destroy them. Instead, run in circles around one of
them for a while. If you do it correctly it will produce several yellow
coins. Do this to each of the four poles, collecting the coins that they
give you.
Once you have depleted that area of its coins, go up to the next area,
