Story ========= The story is kinda cheesy. When you start the game, Mario, Luigi and Wario hop out of three pipes, and they each head into the castle. Peach gave Mario a letter, stating she had a cake baked for them. They never returned. Lakitu woke up Yoshi to see where they were. It appears that Bowser has locked all doors in the castle, and has stolen ALL Power Stars. Now it's up to Yoshi to find Mario and the others and find all the Power Stars, and defeat Bowser. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ============= II. Controls ============= "A" Button: Punches as Mario/Luigi/Wario, Kicks in Air as Mario/Luigi/Wario, Spits out tounge as Yoshi, Wall Kicks with Mario if you are touching a wall, does a three-hit-combo if pressed three times in a row, does a sharp sideflip if pressed right when making a sharp turn to the left/right, if pressed thrice while standing still, makes Mario take off flying if Power Flower is in effect, throws an enemy if held, picks up an enemy, shoots out of cannon. "B" Button: Jumps, Scuttles with Luigi for a short time if held while in air, backflips while crouching, Long Jumps if both the jump button and the R Button is pressed at the same time while running, spits out enemy as Yoshi if one is in his mouth, slides on belly as Mario, Luigi/Wario if pressed while in air and while holding Up, does a Flutter Kick with Yoshi if held while in the air, grabs onto a cage, holds onto a cage if held, dismounts Koopa Shell while riding. D-Pad: Moves your Character, allows Mario to slide against a wall if jumped on. Also allows you to crawl if you move while crouching. Touch Screen: If in Standard Control Mode, moves character in the direction of the circle. If in Touch Screen Control Mode, does stuff like jump, etc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ================ III. Characters ================ There are quite a few characters in this game. I'll list them in this section. ================ Hero Characters ================ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mario Unlocked By: Defeating Goomboss Natural Abilities: Wallkick, Punch, Kick, Jump, Duck, Backflip, Crawl, Ground Pound Power Flower Abilities: Wingcap, Balloon Mario How To Unlock: Collect 8 Stars and open the door in the Rec Room. Enter the Mario Painting and get to Goomboss and defeat him to get the Mario Key. Description: Mario has appeared in EVERY Mario game (hence the name "Super Mario", duh), and has continued to grow in games and popularity since the 1980s. There have been MANY games where Mario makes an appearance. Bowser always kidnaps his girlfriend, Princess Toadstool (aka Princess Peach), and has done so also in this game. Mario is useful throughout some of this game where Wallkicks are required. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Luigi Unlocked By: Defeating King Boo Natural Abilities: Punch, Kick, Jump, Duck, Backflip, Crawl, Scuttle, Walk On Water, Ground Pound Power Flower Abilities: Invisibility How To Unlock: To unlock Luigi, collect 15 Stars and go to where the basement door is, but don't go in there. Instead, go north of there and you'll see a Boo. Follow it out the door and you'll appear in the courtyard. Go left and kill the Boo that shows a Merry Go Round type thing. Approach it to enter Big Boo's Haunt. In Big Boo's Haunt, complete the first star and then go up the stairs in the main room. Enter the door to the far right. In here, have Mario and you'll see a red "?" block. Break it and grab the flower. Float to the balcony above you and enter the door. Enter the Luigi Painting there and defeat King Boo at the end to get the Luigi Key. Description: Luigi looks very similar to Mario, only taller and with a green cap and overalls. He is jealous of his brother because Mario always gets all the glory and attention. Although, Luigi can be proved VERY useful throughout over half of the game. If it wasen't for Luigi, the game would be 2x harder than it already is. He also wants to save Princess Peach and recover all the Power Stars. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wario Unlocked By: Defeating Chief Chilly Natural Abilities: Punch, Kick, Jump, Duck, Backflip, Crawl, Pick Up Signs, Ground Pound Power Flower Abilities: Metal Wario How To Unlock: You must have beaten the Bowser stage "Bowser in the Fire Sea" first, and then you must have Luigi unlocked. Get out Luigi, and head to the top floor. There, enter the door with no number on it, and with a red carpet beside it. This is the Mirror Room. Grab a Power Flower off of one of the pillars there, and go through the mirror. Jump in the Wario Painting and defeat Chief Chilly at the end to get the Wario Key. Description: Wario is still the fat and ugly guy he always was. In this game he is not very useful execpt in small parts of the levels. Nearly all the Toads in the castle make fun of Wario because of his overweight ness. Though, his ability to break black bricks and pick up signs makes him quite the powerpack. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yoshi Unlocked By: N/A Natural Abilities: Lick, Jump, Duck, Backflip, Crawl, Flutter Kick, Ground Pound Power Flower Abilities: Flamethrower How To Unlock: You start the game using Yoshi. Description: Yoshi is one of Mario's biggest buddies (next to Luigi, of course). This little green dinosaur is the only hope in saving Mario. His ability to eat an enemy and hatch an egg can be quite useful at times, as can his flutter kick. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ================ Boss Characters ================ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bowser Found: Bowser in the Dark World, Bowser in the Fire Sea, Bowser in the Sky Abilities: Fire Breath, Stomp, Shockwave, Run Description: King Bowser, also known as King Koopa in the cartoons, is Mario's mortal enemy. He is a big turtle-like dragon-type thing that always wants to stop Mario and Luigi to capture Princess Toadstool. No matter how many times Mario stops him, he refuses to give up. In this game he is back, and Mario must rescue the Princess...again. You fight him three diffrent times in this game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ King Bob-Omb Found: Bob-Omb Battlefield Abilities: Bomb Spawn, Pick Up, Throw, Bounce Description: King Bob-Omb is just the boss of Bob-Omb Battlefield. You first fight him with Yoshi, then with Mario/Luigi/Wario. He is very easy both times, and rewards you with a star for your victory each time you defeat him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Koopa The Quick Found: Bob-Omb Battlefield, Tiny Huge Island Abilities: Run Description: He's actually not really a boss, but I consider him one anyway. All you do is race him in the two levels: Bob-Omb Battlefield, and Tiny Huge Island. In the first level, he is extremely easy. The second time, he is hard if you don't know what you're doing. After you get the hang of it, though, he is easy. He rewards you with a star both times for your efforts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Goomboss Found: Goomboss Battle Abilities: Run, Goomba Spawn Description: Goomboss is the king of all Goombas, and he is holding the Mario Key which you need to unlock Mario. He can really do no damage considering all he does for the whole battle is run around. After you beat him, you get the Mario Key. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ King Boo Found: Big Boo Battle Abilities: Move, Disappear, Disappear into Mirror Description: King Boo is the king of Boos (duh), and he holds the Luigi Key. All you gotta do is trick him to let you punch him in the back. After you defeat him, you get the Luigi Key for your efforts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chief Chilly Found: Chief Chilly Challenge Abilities: Run Description: Just some big ice bully, like the one seen in Snowman's Land. In my opinion, this one is the hardest out of all two faught (Goomboss, King Boo). All he does, though, is run around the stage in an attempt to bump you. The downside is that it is a very slippery stage, and you can easily be knocked into the cold ice, which is what makes him the hardest boss out of the bosses that hold keys. After he is defeated, he gives up the Wario Key. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fire Bully Found: Lethal Lava Land Abilities: Run Description: This bully is found two different times in the stage Lethal Lava Land. After you defeat him each time, you get rewarded with a star (as usual). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ice Bully Found: Snowman's Land Abilities: Run Description: Much like the Fire Bully, only on ice, and in Snowman's Land, and changed looks. You defeat him the same way you do the Fire Bully, and get a star for defeating this sorry excuse for a boss. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ King Whomp Found: Whomp's Fortress Abilities: Walk, Stomp Description: This boss is even easier than King Bob-Omb. I mean, wow, for the King of Whomps, he sure isn't too strong. All he does is walk very sluggishly, and attempt to stomp you miserably if you get close to him. After he is dead, you get a star. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Eel Found: Jolly Roger Bay Abilities: Swim Description: This isn't even a boss, really. I don't know why I put him in here. All he does is swim around in the water, with a star on his tail. If you touch the star, you get the star. Pretty simple. But if you touch the eel, he can hurt you quite a bit. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mama Penguin Found: Cool, Cool Mountain Abilities: Walk, Slide Description: Much like Koopa the Quick, the Mama Penguin just races you to the end of a slide. However, you may not cheat in any way (use shortcuts, etc.), or she will not give you the star at the end of the race. You must also find her lost penguin in another given mission. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wiggler Found: Tiny Huge Island Abilities: Walk, Run Description: We all know much about a Wiggler. It is in this game, and is found in Tiny Huge Island. After you hit it two times, it gets very angry, turns red, and goes on a rampage. After you defeat it, it calms down and gives you a star. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ========================= Miscellaneous Characters ========================= ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Baby Penguin Found: Cool, Cool Mountain Abilities: Walk Description: This little penguin is in Cool, Cool Mountain, and must be carried safely to his mother. If you do it for him, his mother will reward you with a star. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ukiki Found: Tall, Tall Mountain Abilities: Run, Cap Steal Description: Ukiki is a monkey that is only found in Tall Tall Mountain. If you catch it, it will steal your cap, and you must catch it again to get it back. However, if you catch it on a certain objective, it'll show you the way to a star, and break the cage, giving you access to it. There are also many glitches that can be done with this monkey (depending on your game version). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Klepto the Condor Found: Shifting Sand Land, Tiny Huge Island Abilities: Fly, Cap Steal Description: Many, MANY people consider this bird the most annoying enemy in the game (as do I). He appears in Tiny Huge Island and Shifting Sand Land. He also holds a star that you must get from him. After that, however, he will begin attempting to fly over you, taking your cap. You must hit his feet to get it back. Although, this bird is the only way to find out what version of the game you have. Check section X for details on this. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Toad Found: Mushroom Castle (Various Rooms) Abilities: N/A Description: Toad. We ALL know who Toad is. In this game, there are many Toads spreaded in the whole castle. Some of them give you advice, while others either take up for you, or insult you (use Wario to talk to them and see what I mean by insulting). It all depends on what character you have to see what each one of them says. Three of them give you a star, regardless of what character you have out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Princess Toadstool Found: Ending Abilities: N/A Description: Princess Toadstool is the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. In nearly (if not) EVERY game, she is kidnap by Bowser, for whatever reason. And Mario rushes to rescue her. The same cycle occurs in this game. She has a deep-pitched voice in this game, and sounds like an I don't know what. You only see Toadstool in the beggining of the game and at the end of the game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chain Chomp Found: Bob-Omb Battlefield Abilities: Chomp Description: This chain chomp is huge, and is found at Bob-Omb Battlefield. He can damage you really badly if you get hit by him. You must pound the stake he is connected to so he can be released. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pink Bob-Omb Found: Various Levels Abilities: Open Cannon Description: These little guys are harmless. They do not attack you like the black Bob-Ombs, but instead they open cannons and tell you the locations of the eight red coins on each level. There is one (two if you are on an eight red coin star) spreaded throughout each level. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Evil Piano Found: Big Boo's Haunt Abilities: Chomp Description: This enemy piano can be found in Big Boo's Haunt. When you get close to it, this piano will come to life and attack you. If it hits you, it will take a few pieces of health off. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ =========================== IV. Power Flower Abilities =========================== ======== Wingcap ======== The wingcap is one of Mario's two Power Flower Abilities. It allows you to fly in the air for a decent amount of time. This ability is required to get certain Power Stars, and will be very useful during your quest. ================ Balloon Ability ================ This is Mario's second and last ability. It is very slow, and it allows Mario to become a big balloon and float around in the air for a short time. This is a good ability at some points in the game to reach areas easier than you would via the Wingcap. ============= Invisibility ============= This is Luigi's Power Flower ability. It temporarily allows Luigi to become invisible and slip through gates to access stuff such as Power Stars and stuff like Switches for Switch Stars. This can be useful at some times. ============ Metal Wario ============ This ability allows Wario to become metal for a short time. While metal, you can walk underwater and go through jetstreams to get normally impossible to reach stars. Wario's weight is probably what helps this ability the most... ============= Flamethrower ============= This is Yoshi's Power Flower ability. It's barely even useful. All this does is put a flame ball in his mouth. As you press the action button, you will spit out flames from your mouth. This is only useful for maybe a couple of stars, as it melts the coldest ice blocks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ =============== V. Walkthrough =============== When you begin the game for the first time, you will recieve a letter from Princess Toadstool, asking you to come to the castle, as she has a cake baked for Mario and the others. The screen will fade in, and you'll see Lakitu flying around the castle, and Yoshi is sleeping on the roof. Mario, Luigi, and Wario come out of three pipes, and enter the castle. They never return, and Lakitu awakens Yoshi and would like you to investigate. =================== Outside the Castle =================== When you gain control of Yoshi, go directly north and cross the bridge. Examine the castle door. Oh snap! It's locked! Well, we can fix that right away, can't we? Go back and Lakitu will inform you that he saw a rabbit holding a key, and that he marked the location on the Touch Screen. Look on the Touch Screen, and follow the path of the shining key. The rabbit here is quick. Chase him down and try to swallow him by using your tounge. Once you eat him, he will become terrified and beg you to spit him out. Once Yoshi does so, he will give you... the key to unlock the castle! Yay!! Now, go to the front castle door again, and Yoshi will place the key into the door, and enter the castle. ================ Mushroom Castle ================ When you enter here, Bowser will give a speech about how everyone is trapped inside of walls and stuff. When he finally stops talking, go west and up the stairs, and enter the door with a empty star symbol on it (it has no numbers on it). In here, jump into the Bob-Omb Painting to enter your first course. =============================== Course #1: Bob-Omb Battlefield =============================== =================================== Star #1: Big Bob-Omb on the Summit =================================== To get this star, look on the Touch Screen and look at the shining star. Since this is your first star ever, I will guide you on where to go in this level, just so you will get used to the way the game plays. Go directly north across the bridge, then take a turn to the left. Avoid the Chain Chomp and proceed across the next bridge. Hop on this ledge, and go northeast. You will see some boulders rolling. Run across those and proceed up the summit while avoiding the rocks and jumping across ledges. When you finally make it to the top, you will see King Bob-Omb. Approach him and he will start talking. When he is finished, you will enter combat against him. Wait until he throws a bomb, then eat it and spit it at him. He will bounce around the arena, and continue to throw bombs. Repeat the above process two more times to defeat him. He will give you a star. ======================================= Star #2: Footrace with Koopa the Quick ======================================= When you begin this level, ignore Koopa the Quick for now. Go north across the bridge and look for a Goomba wearing Mario's cap. Either kill it or eat it and get the cap. You will turn into Mario. If you get hit, however, you will lose the cap and become Yoshi again. Anyways, head back down the bridge and speak with Koopa the Quick. He will want to race you to the top of the summit. Accept his challenge, and beat him to the top. Wait until he arrives at the top, and then he will give you the star (if you beat him). ========================= Star #3: 5 Silver Stars! ========================= I will tell you where each Silver Star is one by one. You will also notice how there is a sphere in front of you. This is where the Power Star will appear after you've collected all the Silver Stars. Anyways, here is where all the silver stars are located. You can also look on the Touch Screen. 1) For the first one, head north from the start and jump on the tree next to the bridge. Climb it to the top and jump. 2) For the second one, go north across the bridge and you will notice a Chain Chomp running about the area. He has a silver star on his tail. Chase it down and eat the silver star to get it. 3) From #2, go left and avoid the huge Chain Chomp. Cross the bridge, and take a left. One of the Goombas in this area holds the silver star. 4) From #3, jump on the nearby ledge, and go to the northwest corner. A silver star is in bushes there. 5) For the last one, proceed to climb up the summit. About half way up, you should notice two trees, a box, and two Goombas. One of the Goombas has the last one. After you successfully collect all 5 Silver Stars, a Power Star will appear in the sphere at the beggining. Go there and jump on the sphere to break it open and obtain the star. =============================== Star #4: Big Bob-Omb's Revenge =============================== For this star, you MUST get the Mario Cap. After you get the Mario Cap, proceed to the summit (once again). Once you are there, you will (yet again) meet King Bob-Omb. This time he is even EASIER than he was before. When you engage in combat with him, simply walk slowly behind him and pick him up from his back. After you've grabbed him, press A again to throw him. He will hit the ground. Repeat the above process two more times to get the Power Star (pretty easy). ================================ Star #5: Mario Wings to the Sky ================================ You MUST have Mario unlocked before attempting this star. Skip to the next one if you don't have him, and come back to this one later. Although, alternately, you could use the second method to get this star. If you want to use the second method, read below. As Mario, go ahead and talk to the pink Bob-Ombs at the start. They will open up the cannon in several areas of the level. Now, go north and across the bridge, and you'll notice several hills in the area (they are grey). The one that dosen't have a red coin in it is the one you need to go up. Run up that hill and drop into the cannon. Look above, and you'll see an island in the sky. Aim and shoot onto the island. There are two things you can do from here. 1) If you would rather do this the real (and a little harder) way, then wait until you make the red "?" blocks solid before coming to this star. Then, use the Wingcap to fly. While flying, collect the coins in the middle of the coin rings. There are a total of five. 2) Hop in the nearby cannon, and shoot into the middle of the coin rings. You must collect the middle coin in the middle of all five coin rings. After you do this using either Method #1 or Method #2, a Power Star will appear. Get to it and grab it to complete this one. ============================== Star #6: Find the 8 Red Coins ============================== For this star, I will guide you through how to get each red coin, and where they are located. 1) For the first one, head across the bridge and you'll notice two platforms that float about. A red coin is above these platforms. Either grab it while in the air, or use the platforms to get it. 2) For this one, go directly north from #1, and you'll notice a small hill. A red coin sits up there. 3) For #3, go to where the huge Chain Chomp is. There is a red coin on top of his stake he is connected to. 4) To get this one, go north from #3 and cross the bridge. Take a left, and you'll find a red coin in the area. 5) This one is in the same location as #4. 6) For this one, go to where the rolling rocks are (right before you begin climbing the summit). Instead of climbing the summit, drop down the area by the gate leading to the summit. You will be in a tunnel. In this tunnel is the red coin. 7) Climb up the summit until you see a hill going down. Slide down the hill and grab the red coin on the way down. If you miss it, you can crawl back up the hill and grab it (yes, it is slow but it works). 8) To get the last one, use one of the cannons to shoot onto the small island in the sky. The red coin is above the tree. After you achieve all red coins, a Power Star will appear in the area with all the stakes. Go to that area and retrieve your prize. =================================== Star #7: Behind Chain-Chomp's Gate =================================== This is by far the easiest star to get. Go to the area with the huge Chain Chomp, and jump on his stake. Perform a Ground Pound on it three times to release him. He will break the gate containing the star, and jump away. Retrieve your prize. Groudon199 wrote an alternate strategy: Another way to get this star (possibly the fastest, easiest & safest way) is as Luigi, collect the power flower near the bridge at the start and just quickly run toward the Chomp. Just run through the gate and you got the star. And don't worry about the Chomp. While invisible, it just goes right through Luigi. Another strategy wrote by MegaKnuckles777: To get the 7th star in Bob-Omb Battlefield without taking damage and very quickly, use Wario and get the Power Flower next to the cannon near the mountain's gate. Run to the Chain Chomp's post and pound it. Since Wario is so strong, It'll only take ONE pound to do it.And if the Chain Chomp hits you, you are Metal, and will receive no damage. Grab the star afterwards. =========================== Star #8: Collect 100 Coins =========================== This one is actually quite easy to get (compared to other 100 Coin Stars). The best star to select for this one is #4, as it has the most coins out of all the missions on this level. Anyway, to get this 100 Coin Star, make sure you kill every single Goomba and get the coins from them. Make sure also that you get every last Bob-Omb, and the coins from them. There is also a Koopa Troopa in the area near the huge Chain Chomp. If you stomp on it twice, you will get a Blue Coin (worth five coins). There are also the 8 Red Coins, which you will need to get this star. Also, run around all the stakes you find (the Chain Chomp's stake dosen't count) five different times to have five coins pop out of them. There are also coins around the bushes, and in the red boxes (requires Mario to punch them). There are also some in the ring of coins on the floating island. After all this, you should defenitely have 100 Coins. Now just achieve your star, whether it be in the air or on the ground. Either way, after you get it, save and pause and exit this course. ================ Mushroom Castle ================ After you get at least three (or as much as possible) stars in the first stage, head back to the main room. In here, go to the topright corner and open the One Star Door. Just exit this room for now. Now, jump down and open the door with a "3" on it (if you can), and open yet another door with a "1" on it. Now, open the last door near the Bob-Omb Battlefield entrance with a "3" on it. Head to the one star door (not the one that leads to the big room with four doors). Enter the painting to enter the second stage. ============================ Course #2: Whomp's Fortress ============================ ================================ Star #1: Chip off Whomp's Block ================================ To do this star, head north and jump on the ledge there. Go up the ramp and then take a left. Walk very slowly and when you get to the Piranha (without waking it up), punch it to kill it. Now, go left and either sidle along the wall there, or run across the bridge. Either way, go north and either kill or avoid the piranha, then when the bridge thing comes to you, walk on it. Now, either run in the middle of it, and go north when it allows you to cross, or when it carries you over that grey thing, jump. When you are on the next ledge, go east and avoid the Whomps. You will see two elevator platforms. Use them to get to the top to meet King Whomp. To beat him, go next to his feet. He will try to stomp you. Run away from it, and when he lands, jump on his back and Ground Pound him. Repeat this process two more times to get the star from him. ==================================== Star #2: To the Top of the Fortress ==================================== The same way you did the last star is how you do this star. Get to the very top of the fortress (where you met King Whomp), and you'll see a huge tower, and a cannon that fires out Bullet Bills. Jump on the lowest platform and then to the highest, and repeat. If you fall off, try again. Once you make it, jump to the top of the tower, and achieve your star. ================================== Star #3: Shoot Into the Wild Blue ================================== For this star, go north and hop on the ledge. Instead of going up the ramp, take a left into the watery area. Go north and you'll see a ledge with a cannon and a pink Bob-Omb, and some coins. Talk to the Bob-Omb to open the cannon. Hop into the cannon, and aim at the platform in the air, just north of the cannon. Aim at the pillar thing, and shoot. If you didn't make it, then try again. When you make it, hop down the pole and grab the Power Star as yours to keep. ======================================== Star #4: Red Coins on the Floating Isle ======================================== I will list where each and every Red Coin is located here, and how to get them. 1) From the start, jump on the small ledge. Instead of going up that ramp, go east of that, and proceed north. Watch out for the moving walls. There is a red coin above one of those moving walls. 2) After #1, proceed north, and be careful not to fall off because of the moving floor tiles. When you are at the next area, you'll see a Thwomp, followed by another Thwomp just up that ramp. When the Thwomp lands, jump on him and wait until he goes back up. The red coin is right there, so jump to get it. 3) From #2, get off the Thwomp, and go northeast. Punch the sleeping Piranha, and the red coin is right behind where the Prianha was. 4) From #3, go north and sidle along the wall instead of taking the grey bridge. The red coin is there. 5) From #4, go north and kill the Piranha. Ride the long little platform thing, and stay on the very edge of it. It will carry you to the red coin. 6) From #5, get the Mario Cap (if you don't already have Mario out). Go to the top of the fortress, and do a wallkick on the plank there. It will knock over. Walk across it, and hop from the platforms until you get this red coin. 7) From #6, hop across the other floating platforms and collect the red coin. 8) For the last one, go around the place where the Switch Star is. The red coin is floating above the bushes. After you've collected all the red coins, a Power Star will appear near the beggining. Collect it and it is yours. ==================================== Star #5: Fall Onto the Caged Island ==================================== To get this one, when you start the level, turn around and jump on the tree. Climb it to the top, and an owl will appear. Jump off, and grab onto him. Make sure you hold the button down, or he will drop you. Now, when he carries you all the way into the air, move around and look for a small platform with a cage over it. Drop onto the platform, walk inside the cage and collect your star. ============================= Star #6: Blast Away the Wall ============================= This one is easy. To do this one, go to the area where the cannon is located. Hop into the cannon, and look towards the northeast. You should see a black colored ramp, with a wall, and two corners. Shoot into the second corner of that wall. If you hit it directly, a star will appear. Go to the top of the fortress (almost), and achieve your prize. ===================================== Star #7: Switch Star of the Fortress ===================================== When you begin the level, go directly north. Either kill or ignore the piranha and proceed to the north. You will come across a platform. Hop onto it, and then follow the left path. Break all the boxes as Mario, and eventually you'll see a switch that is shaped like a star. Step on it, and a star will appear in that sphere. You only have a certain amount of time to get the star before it disappears, so hurry there. Once you get there, jump into the sphere to get the Power Star. =========================== Star #8: Collect 100 Coins =========================== This 100 Coin Star is actually quite easy. Make sure you collect all 8 Red Coins, and make sure you collect the ring of coins around the bushes in the beggining. Also be sure that you destroy all the Piranhas and get the Blue Coins they spit out. Make sure you get all the coins on the floating platforms, and that you get all the coins from the Whomps. On a side note: if you step (NOT stomp) on the Whomps back five times, they will spit out coins. Then finish them off with a Ground Pound and collect the rest of their coins. Also be sure to get every coin from all the Goombas, and make sure you don't miss any. Also make sure you destroy all the red blocks in the area with the Switch Star, and that you get the coins from them. There are also a few coins around the spinning thing, after you cross the grey bridge. Be sure to also get the coins where the star is in "Shoot Into the Wild Blue", but be careful not to grab the star! After you've got all those that I've mentioned, you should very well have all 100 Coins needed for this level. ================ Mushroom Castle ================ By the time you've gotten all the stars that you can at this point, you should have at least 15 Stars. Now it is time to collect some Castle Secret Stars, and to unlock Mario. First, exit the room with Whomp's Fortress. Now, go to the northeast corner, and enter the door with a 1 on it. In here, go directly north and enter the double doors there. In the Rec Room, go in the corner and unlock the door with an "8" on it. In here, you will see a Mario Painting on the wall. Enter it to appear in the Gomboss Battle stage, where we will unlock Mario. ================ Goomboss Battle ================ Take note that there are also 8 Red Coins in this stage. However, you cannot get them until you have unlocked every character in the game, so let's forget about them for right now. When you begin the stage, go down the slide, and jump on the platform there, onto the next ledge. Stomp the Goomba, and when the huge platform begins to rise, jump. Then jump to the next one, then the next one, and then onto the platform. Now, go towards the Piranha Plant, and punch it. Now, jump onto the platform beside you, and climb the pole to the top. Jump onto the ledge there, and walk across the long bridge. Now, hop across each platform until you reach the one with a hole in it. Enter it to engage in combat with Goomboss. When Goomboss is done talking, the battle begins. When the fight starts, he will spawn a lot of Goombas. Begin running around the entire stage, in an attempt to run behind Goomboss. After you do so, eat a Goomba and press R to instantly hatch an egg. Now, run back in front of Goomboss, and throw the egg at his face. He will take a hit, grow in size, and spawn more Goombas. Each time you hit him he gets faster. Repeat the same process two more times to eliminate him, and get the Mario Key. Look at the Castle Secret Stars section to see how to get the eight red coins. There is also a Switch Star in this level. See the Castle Secret Stars section to see how to get this star, also. ================ Mushroom Castle ================ After you defeat Goomboss, save your game and exit this room. Also exit the Rec Room. In here, turn left and examine the door with an "M" on it. Yoshi will place the Mario Key into the door, and the character will change into Mario. Before we go any further, see the Castle Secret Stars section and get some of the Castle Secret Stars. NOTE: After you get 15 Stars, IMMEDIATELY go to the courtyard outside. Get the red coins out of the Boos there. There is a commonly known glitch that if you wait, the red coins will disappear, forcing you to stay at 149 Stars for the whole game. See the Castle Secret Stars section to see how to obtain this star. Once you are done getting some Castle Secret Stars, go to the main castle lobby. Once there, take a right and go up the stairs there. Unlock the door with a three on it. In this room, jump into the painting to enter the third course. =========================== Course #3: Jolly Roger Bay =========================== ==================================== Star #1: Plunder in the Sunken Ship ==================================== For the first star in this level, jump into the water, and begin swimming underwater. If you get really low on health, go to the surface to recover. Go all the way down, and you should see a ship underwater. Swim to it, and you'll see a hole with an eel's head sticking out. Swim towards the Eel, then swim back away from the ship. The eel should come out, and exit the hole. Ignore the eel, and enter the hole. Now you are inside the ship. Inside, you must swim down to a treasure chest. Grab the air bubble, and the water will drain. Now, jump from each ledge, while being careful not to fall, and break the box at the top with the star inside. ======================================= Star #2: Can The Eel Come Out to Play? ======================================= Now the eel serves a purpose. Swim towards where the ship was. Instead of doing that, swim around the entire area until you see a hole with a green thing in it. You will see the eel has his head sticking out. Make him come out the same way you did before. He will begin swimming around the entire area. You will see a star on his tail, so simply touch the star and it will be released. It will be by another hole, so swim to it and grab it. ==================================== Star #3: Treasure in the Ocean Cave ==================================== For this star, go underwater and go directly west of where the eel's hole is. There will be another hole, surrounded by coins. Swim through that hole to enter a certain room. In this room, run by the Goomba's and avoid the falling pillars. You will see a platform with four treasure chests. You have to touch them in a certain order, otherwise you'll get zapped. Touch the one at the very top, then the one left of that one, then to the right of that one, then the one at the very bottom. After you do this, a star will come out of one of the treasure chests. Grab it to complete this one. =================================== Star #4: Blast to the Stone Pillar =================================== I've actually had some troubles with this particular star, but it's actually not that difficult. There are two methods on getting this star. I will tell you the normal method and the (very) easy method. 1) As Mario, swim all the way to the right side. There will be a bridge that floats on the water, and some platforms. On one of those platforms is the pink Bob-Omb. Talk to it and it will prepare the cannon for you (as usual). Now, go back to the start of the level, and swim to the lone platform. Then, hop into the cannon. This is the tricky part. Aim at the pillar nearest to the platform, then aim a little bit above it, and shoot. If you aimed right, you will grab onto the pillar. Now jump onto the platform. 2) With Luigi, go on top of the boat by going to the platform with the pink Bob-Omb. There is a purple switch there. Press it, and several blocks will appear. Walk across the entire walkway and jump aboard the ship. Now, have Luigi have his back turned towards the platform required. Then, perform a backflip and spin to the platform. Regardless of what method you used, break the box and obtain the star. ====================================== Star #5: Red Coins on the Ship Afloat ====================================== As always, I shall list how to get each and every red coin below. 1) From the start, swim directly north towards the platform where the pink Bob-Omb is. Near it you will see a pillar with a red coin above it. Grab onto it and jump to get it. 2) From #1, swim underwater and go just north of that platform. There is a red coin inside the clamshell. 3) From #2, swim south where you will see a clamshell and some pillars. The clamshell holds the red coin. 4) After #3, swim all the way to the very bottom. The clamshell there holds the red coin (again). 5) Swim all the way back to the platforms. There is an area underwater with two clamshells. One of them (as always) has the coin. 6) To get this one (it's not in a clamshell), go to the platform that has the purple switch on it. Press the switch, and make your way onto the boat. The red coin is right there. 7) This one is also on the ship. Jump to the top, where you'll see two red coins. Collect both of them. 8) Same as #7. After you get all the red coins, a star will appear on the boat. Get on the boat (if you aren't already) and get the star. ================================ Star #6: Switch Star of the Bay ================================ You MUST have Luigi unlocked AND the "?" Blocks unlocked before you can attempt this star, as it is impossible to get otherwise. If you have Luigi unlocked, then get him, and enter the level. Begin swimming through the hole that you swam through for Star #3. In here, use the "?" Block to become invisible. Now, quickly run and press the switch, and a star will appear through a cage. Run through the cage and obtain the star. ================================ Star #7: Through the Jet Stream ================================ You MUST have Wario unlocked AND the "?" Blocks unlocked before you can attempt this star, as it is impossible to get otherwise. To do this star, enter the course as Wario. Now, go to the platform where you can access the ship. You should see a Red "?" Block. Use it to become Metal Wario. Now, jump into the water and sink down to the ocean floor. Walk to the middle, where you see a stream with bubbles and a star. Walk into it and grab the star. =========================== Star #8: Collect 100 Coins =========================== This 100 Coin Star shouldn't be very difficult. To start it off, turn around at the start of the level. You'll see a blue switch and a block. Break the block, but DO NOT step on the shell yet. Instead, hit the switch and then step on the shell. Ride along the water, grabbing every blue coin. Then, press R to dismount the shell. Make sure you get all the red coins, and every ring of coins around the hole. Also get all the coins from the Goomba's, and from the sidewalk that you use to get aboard the ship. Also try to find any other coins I may have missed out on mentioning. After you do all of that, you should have 100 Coins by now. ================ |
