I'm on the first castle in level 8 and I've gotten to bowser but cant beat him. i hit it with turtles but it won't die he just faints...do i have to hit him on the head or make him fall or something??

when i get to level eight and get the second star coin, i get deposited in a room with no enemies or anything and i always run out of time what am i doing wrong?
