||========================||
|| 1. THE STORY SO FAR... ||
||========================||
Great, now I need to show off my bad story telling skills now, do I? Oh well.
Just don't say I didn't warn you. (And you might have to suffer a second time
later on when I try and explain the story throughout this game better,
because it isn't explained very well in the DS version of this game and you
may be left stuck in some places wondering what's going on!)
Anyway...
A long time ago, there were prophecies about a very special purple dragon- a
type of dragon only born once every ten generations. Unfortunately the Dark
Master heard the prophecies as well. He sent the Dark Armies to smash the
eggs hidden safe in the grotto.
The master of fire, Ignitus, managed to save Spyro's egg by letting it drift
down the Silver River to a family of dragonflies who looked after him. Then
Ignitus returned to the grotto, only to find that every egg except for one
had been smashed by the Dark Armies. The egg that was not smashed was
corrupted by the Dark Master.
Several years later, Spyro was playing a game with a dragonfly named Sparx.
Spyro had lived with dragonflies for so long he thought he was a dragonfly
too. However, that day soldiers trapped Sparx and in fury, Spyro started
breathing fire! Sparx and Spyro's parents came and told Spyro that they knew
this day will come because Spyro is a dragon and not a dragonfly. Spyro then
tries to unlock his destiny and Sparx came with him.
Spyro explored the swamp in which he lived and found the entrance to the
Dragon Temple. He met Ignitus there, who told Spyro about the prophecy.
Ignitus takes Spyro into the Dragon Temple, where they were attacked by some
more soldiers. Spyro manages to fight them all off. After that Ignitus showed
Spyro five islands that were put under control of a mysterious black dragon
named Cynder. Ignitus then taught Spyro a few more ways of fighting and then
sent him off to find all of the other dragons.
Spyro discovered that the other dragons had been used as a sort of battery
to power a portal in a mysterious place called Convexity. When this portal is
powered, the Dark Master could be released and wreak havoc all over the
dragon worlds.
Spyro arrived in Convexity and fought all of Cynder's forces there. Once he
got to the portal, he saw in dismay that he was too late- Cynder was
inserting the final crystal! Spyro fought Cynder once more. Once Cynder was
very weak, Spyro unleashed the purple Fury attack! Cynder was weakened and
returned to her proper form- as a small dragon just like Spyro. Spyro was
amazed, but this was no time to express his shock! The purple Fury attack
caused the portal to open up and Convexity began to explode. Spyro managed to
stop Cynder from being sucked into the portal and escaped!
When Spyro and Cynder arrived at the Dragon Temple, Spyro told Cynder that he
was having some bad feelings. After that he began having nightmares of
dangers to come. Spyro was sent to find the Chronicler to find out more about
his nightmares.
||=================||
|| 2. THE ELEMENTS ||
||=================||
There are four elements: Fire, Earth, Lightning and Ice. Each of these works
in different ways. For each element there is a normal breath attack and a
Fury attack. Here's the lowdown on what they do:
~Breath Attacks~
Fire- Fire doesn't use that much breath energy, but can be rather weak.
Earth- Earth uses more breath energy than Fire, does a lot less damage than
Fire but can knock enemies back.
Lightning- Lightning uses a lot of breath energy but it's really powerful and
can form "clouds," stunning enemies and dealing damage.
Ice- Ice uses about as much breath energy as Earth. It's about as powerful
as Fire and forces fury gems to break out of them immediately.
~Fury Attacks~
Fire- Fire Fury makes your attacks stronger.
Earth- Earth Fury makes you invincible.
Lightning- Lightning Fury makes you faster.
Ice- Ice Fury restores your health.

|| 3. CONTROLS AND TIPS ||
||======================||
*-------------------*
| 3.1. The Controls |
*-------------------*
The controls have changed since The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning. Not too
much though.
Move: D-pad
Jump: B
Melee: Y
Dodge/roll: X
Breath: A
Pause: Start/Select
Change breath: L
Look around: R and D-pad
Reset camera: R
Double jump: B, B (quickly)
Glide: B, Hold B or Just hold B
Fury: Purple icon on the bottom right of the screen
*-----------*
| 3.2. Tips |
*-----------*
1. Earth Breath comes in handy when you're surrounded! It's got a good range
and it knocks back enemies making this one super handy.
2. You can do a sort of jump attack (B then Y) but since it's so slow I
highly recommend that you don't.
3. If you don't want to fight a particular enemy (and it's not one that you
have to fight to proceed) then you can flee. Rolling is faster than
walking so hold that X button and roll away!
4. As soon as possible, upgrade those attacks of yours! You never know how
helpful they can be.
5. To open a crystal puzzle box, tap it with your stylus. Just thought I'd
clear that up since I get several e-mails about it.
6. The types of gems you can get are: Red (fills health bar), Purple (fills
fury bar) and Blue (gives you "spirit" used to upgrade attacks).
||================||
|| 4. WALKTHROUGH ||
||================||
Alrightio, so here's the walkthrough!
*----------------*
| 4.1. Nightmare |
*----------------*
When you start the game, you will get to see a cutscene. You can press the
Start button to skip it if you want to.
Next you'll start the game and Spyro will be in another one of his
nightmares. Spyro will groan about it being another nighmare and then you get
to start playing!
~4.1.1- Part 1~
Break the mushrooms if you want to (if you do you'll be told about the gems
that you pick up) then walk forward and you'll be told how to jump. Jump onto
the step and then you'll be told how to double jump. If you want to collect
the purple gems even though you probably won't need them. Continue on and
you'll be told how to glide. Go up the steps, bash the mushrooms if you want
to and then collect the blue gems at the top. Glide onto the platform nearby
then glide off it, collecting the blue gems on the way down. Then you'll see
a monster and you'll be told how to use melee and breath attacks. You also
get a tiny bit of information about your fire breath.
While you're down there bash the mushrooms if you feel like it and then go
battle the enemy. How you battle him is up to you. Some people (like me) just
like mashing the Y button over and over again, some like to do a quick flame
and then finish off with melee attacks and others have a different strategy.
You might knock an enemy into the air, if you do you'll be told how to do an
Air Juggle.
Continue on across the bridge and you'll be shown another enemy (the same one
as before). Finish him off, it shouldn't be too hard. You might notice
another enemy appearing. Don't worry, they only respawn a couple of times and
then disappear forever. You can fight the other enemies as they appear if you
want to get some more blue gems.
As you pass the reflection puzzle box you'll be told how to start it. Tap the
reflection puzzle with your stylus (may take a few tries, try standing in
different positions). This is basically a tutorial puzzle but I will show you
how to do it nevertheless. My ASCII art is kinda bad so bear with me.

The massive rock will then break so you can continue across the bridge,
picking up the red gems along the way. Then you'll get to the end of the
level.
~4.1.2- Part 2~
You will be told that some puzzles have missing pieces and then you'll get
shown where the pieces are. After that you get to start the level.
Walk forward a bit and then go to the left. There are some more mushrooms
here. Alright, I'll stop telling you that you can bash them if you want. I
think you should know that by now.
Continue past the well, fight the enemy (you can use a fire fury if you want
first, this boosts the damage you deal). Grab the puzzle piece and fight the
respawning enemy if you want the blue gems (if not just roll away).
Go back and walk around the corner of the small building (so you're turning
to your left). If you want to fight the enemy and all those that respawn be
my guest, if not keep reading.
Jump onto the barrels next to the wall. There should be another platform
jutting out of a wall that you can glide to. Glide there and collect the red
gems and the puzzle piece. Look around and you should find a stack of barrels
with blue gems above it. Glide there and grab the blue gems.
Do you see the wall that makes a kind of ramp near that little circle
platform? Go onto the ramp and walk up it, collecting the red gems along the
way. Once you've reached the top of the ramp you should see some blue gems in
the air in front of you. Glide forward and collect those gems!
You should be on a staircase with some swords and shields on one wall. You
can climb down and break mushrooms or climb up. If you want to you can climb
down but you're going to have to climb up later anyway.
Climb up the staircase and once you're at the top, follow the path. You will
come to a little platform with some mushrooms. Walk around the platform until
you see the path to another puzzle piece. Grab that last puzzle piece and
jump onto the wall. Break the mushrooms if you feel like it, then jump off
the wall. Go back to the place where the ramp was but continue forward. You
will have to fight (or flee from) another enemy. Behind the enemy is a
crystal puzzle. Time for some crystal action!

Once you're done, keep walking forward and you've finished the level! Yay.
Well, the nightmare's over, but the game's only just started.
*--------------------*
| 4.2. Dragon Temple |
*--------------------*
Spyro has now awoken from his nightmare. Sparx is happy that the "evil-psycho-
she-dragon" is gone and she's gone out into the garden. Spyro wants to find
her to keep her safe. Sparx then reminds Spyro that Ignitus said he should
wait until Spyro's powers return. (You will notice that you no longer have
access to your powers of flame and fury.) Spyro decides to rescue Cynder
anyway.
~4.2.1- Part 1~
Go behind you and break a couple of jars in hope of finding blue gems if
you wish. Then go forward. There is a little room up ahead. You can go in it
if you want to get blue gems from fighting leeches (they can be taken down in
two hits... I'm not joking!). If you could use your fire fury they'd be
one-shottable. Unfortunately you don't, so you're going to have to beat them
up the hard(er) way. Exit the room if you went in it and then continue up,
collecting the purple gems on the way. Once you get to a little platform, go
right to find a jar to break. Then jump on the blue platform and from there
glide into the next room where you'll be instructed how to break out of
battle mode (this isn't very useful information).
Anyway go into the room. More leeches. Yayyyyyyyy. You'll notice that you can
also break the piles of books too, not that it'll really help. Go to the very
right side of the room and you should see a small corridor. Walk through it
and you should come to a room with a dragon scale. Grab it and you'll be told
that dragon scales increase your max health. This can be quite useful. No,
wait, this WILL be useful.
Go back to the main room and you will see two ramps. Go up the right ramp and
collect the red gems. Walk into the main area if you want to battle more
leeches for the spirit gems. Once you're done jump up the bookcases at the
top of the ramp you just went up. You will be told how to look around and how
to reset the camera. Glide across and grab those blue gems then jump up some
more bookcases. At the top you might want to look around to find the blue
platforms you need to jump to. Once you've found them, glide across them and
grab the blue gems at the end of it. Walk forward off the ledge to break a
jar and battle a leech. Next jump on the blue platform and glide across to
the exit.
~4.2.2- Part 2~
This bit is quite straightforward really. Some leeches will come towards you
so fight 'em off. Go to the left to break some jars, or go to the right to
break more jars, collect the spirit gems at the top of the pot thingymabob
and fight off some leeches. Once you've done that, go back to the center of
the platform and jump on the platform in the water, then the platform on the
other side. Fight off some leeches and if you see a firefly, jump over it.
Don't touch it or try to attack it or it'll blow up on you! However it'll
explode on its own and you'll get those gems.
You'll notice that on the left side of that platform there's a wall that
makes a sort of staircase. Go up the "stairs" and once you get to the top
you can glide to the trees on the first platform and grab some blue gems.
Then you can glide back.
Anyway once you're done breaking jars and stuff on that platform go to the
left side and start jumping across the lily pads. You'll reach a small
platform and then you'll have to jump across another lily pad to where the
exit is.
There's also another platform you can glide to from there, to fight some more
enemies to grab more spirit gems. Once you're done you can exit the area.
~4.2.3- Part 3~
This is the area where Cynder is in. As soon as you start a rolling rock (on
The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning it's called an armadillo so I'll refer
to it as an armadillo from now on, no matter how crazy that might sound) will
roll towards you. I must warn you I find these critters difficult to kill. As
far as I know one of the only ways to get rid of them is to dodge them then
whack them when they're dizzy. Or just don't try to kill them at all.
There are some mushrooms around so bash them if you like. After that head
back to where you started and you should see some steps. Jump up the steps,
destroy the leech at the top and turn left- you should see some purple gems
in a path leading to a big flower. Collect the purple gems as you glide to
the flower. After that glide to the next flower and then to the ledge at the
side.
This bit is really straighforward. Just walk along the ledge, destroying
leeches, jumping over fireflies and breaking chests until you get to the end.
When you get to the end follow the trail of red gems as you glide to another
platform with a couple of fireflies on it. Then glide down to the platform
where Cynder is standing. Break some more mushrooms and destroy some more
leeches and then walk up to Cynder. Spyro and Cynder will start talking and
Cynder will say about how her destiny is "somewhere out there for her to
find." Then Spyro will take a nap and you will enter the Vision World.
~4.2.4- Vision World 1~
Ignitus has summoned you to the Spirit Temple, so you can fight him in an
attempt to awaken your abilities. Open up the crystal puzzle box and let's
get cracking!
~Crystal Puzzle: Fire 4~

Once you've finished that, jump up the steps to where Ignitus is waiting.
~Boss Battle: Ignitus~
Yes, you have to fight Ignitus to awaken your powers.
The attacks he uses are a horn attack and his breath attack. He doesn't use
his breath attack until later. Basically just walk/roll around him while he
uses his horn attack and he shouldn't hurt you. Once he's used his horn
attack three times he'll become dizzy so all you have to do is go up and
whack him. I suggest only whacking him about three or four times because
after that he'll probably return to normal.
Keep going like this and once you've got his health down to about 1/4, he'll
begin to use his breath attack in addition to his horn attack. You can
probably evade this by jumping but I wouldn't worry about it too much because
he'll probably only get to use it once or twice during the battle.
Once you've beat him you'll watch a cutscene and then you'll wake up, thus
returning to the Dragon Temple.
~4.2.5- Part 4~
Upon awakening you will find that the temple is under attack and you need to
get out. You'll notice that really all you're doing is going backwards
through the levels though you're going to have to do a few things you didn't
have to do before.
Go ahead and do the usual mushroom-bashing then start the crystal puzzle. As
you walk up to the box you'll be told how to use the fire breath (again).
~Crystal Puzzle: Fire 3~
KEY: O : Beam, /|, |/, \|: Right Angled Mirror, {} : Power Crystal,

After you complete that lily pads will start going around. Jump on the
first one you see and ride on it until you get to the next bunch of lily
pads. Jump on those and then jump on the moving one. When you're close
enough jump on the platform, fight as many monsters and break as many
mushrooms as you want then continue through the doorway to finish.
~4.2.6- Part 5~
Sparx will tell you to try and use combinations of breath and melee attacks.
I prefer using just melee attacks, but a good combination to try is using a
breath attack and then finishing off the enemy with melee attacks.
Glide to the platform to the right if you want to fight another monster, then
go back to the starting platform then to the platform to your left. There's
another monster here for you to fight. Jump across the lily pads to the other
side of the area. Go to the left and fight some more monsters and collect
more gems if you wish. Then go back to the right and jump up the little
steps, then glide across the trees to get three more blue gems. Jump down
and fight more monsters and collect more gems and then continue through the
next doorway to finish.
~4.2.7. Part 6~
Glide onto the blue platform then onto the ledge at the other side to grab a
Dragon Tooth. Dragon teeth give you more breath power.
Look around and you should find a ledge below the ledge you started in.
Somehow or other try to glide there, then turn around and glide onto the blue
platform then onto the ledge at the other side to enter the library area.
Fight some monsters then go to the very right of the room and you should see
a little passage. Go through there and you should see the crystal puzzle
piece that you need. Grab it then go back out. There's no need to explore the
library any more though you can if you want to fight more monsters and grab
more gems. When you're ready head out of the library area (back the way you
came). Glide onto the blue platform then glide across onto the ledge. Go
through the arch and then continue down the path, collecting the purple gems
as you go.
At the end of the path you may notice there is another archway. You can go in
there to- you guessed it!- fight more monsters and collect more gems. Open
the crystal puzzle box when you are ready.
