Credits/Thanks ---2. Introduction----- Hi, this is a guide for Yoshi’s Island DS that tells how to collect all Character Coins. Only certain babies can collect each special coin, but I’ll tell you who collects what! Every stage has a Character Coin. However, all 5 Secret and Extra levels don’t include a coin, and World 5-8 doesn’t have a coin. Since there are 8 normal stages in each world, and there are 5 worlds, 5x8=40. However, since 5-8 doesn’t have a coin, you’ll have to subtract by one to know that there are 39 Character Coins throughout the guide. To organize my guide, I have the Table of Contents and then the Introduction, which you’re looking at, and then the controls and then the guide to collecting each coin, and then the “Thank Yous” of the guide and Credits. Found a mistake? Email me at mario19972@aol.com! -------3. Character Coins----- This is the section where I’ll tell you where to get each Character Coin. Here we go!!!!!! World 1-1: Ba-dum-Bum!- -A bit before the goal, you'll find a pipe. Enter the pipe and then drop to the bottom of the room. Hop up the ledges on the left to collect the Baby Coin. This Baby Coin is only visible with Baby Mario. World 1-2: Hit the M Blocks!- -Inside the cave, hit the first set of M Blocks to reveal a bouncer. Bounce off of it to reach the upper area, where a bunch of Coins are, and a Character Coin are. This coin is only visible with Baby Peach. On your first visit, you don't have Peach so make a return trip here to nab it! World 1-3: Mario's Fleet Feet- -Once you get Baby Peach, return to the end of this level and glide through the leaves to fly up to the Character Coin that only Baby Peach can collect. World 1-4: The Castle of the Big Burt Bros.- -In the second area, where Shy Guys are rotating spikes, jump up to find the Character Coin on the top-right ledge. Grab it as Baby Mario. World 1-5: Catch the Breeze!- - Near the middle of the level, use Baby Peach to fly through the diagonal winds and reach an area with a Baby Coin only collectable with Baby Peach. World 1-6: Glide Guys Take to the Skies- - Near the beginning of the level, fly up with Peach and switch to Mario. Jump further up and hit the M Blocks with Mario to create a sunflower. Hop up the pedals of the sunflower to reach a platform with this level's character coin, only accessible with Baby Mario on Yoshi. World 1-7: Baby Mario and Baby Peach; Dynamic Duo- -Once you get Baby DK, return the hidden cave interior and exit east. Move east and climb the vine inside. At the top is a Character Coin that only DK can get. World 1-8: Gilbert the Gooey's Castle- - At the second area, use Baby Peach to fly up through the winds and land a ledge. Left of a locked door, drop down and enter the door to enter a room with a puzzle where you must use eggs to shoot down walls that create steps to the Baby Coin. First, shoot down the first wall. Next, jump onto that wall. Shoot down the third wall and jump onto that one. Now shoot the second one and from that wall, shoot down the fourth wall to create "steps" to the Baby Coin that only Baby Peach can get. World 2-1: Baby DK, The Jungle King- - Near the end of the level you'll find a stationery flower that only Baby Peach can use. After completing this stage once, return here to find a Stork Stop. Change to Baby Peach to get the wind blowing. Blow up to a ledge. Head right and blast the Winged Clouds for 1-Ups. Next, head left and grab Baby Peach's coin. World 2-2: Underground Mysteries- - Near the end of the cave's second area, you'll find a Stork Stop. Switch to Baby DK and climb the nearby vines. At the bottom at one of the vines, you'll find DK's Character Coin. World 2-3: Windblown Wilderness- - At the second area, you'll find a Stork Stop. Switch to Peach and climb up to a wind flower. Fly up and east to another wind flower. Fly up and climb left. Shoot the cloud to drop a switch. Hit it and fly through the winds to reach the Baby Peach Character Coin. World 2-4: Hector the Reflector's Haunted House- - Near the middle of the stage, you'll find an arrow platform. When you step on it, whichever it points it flies. Flutter to turn the arrow and then drop when the arrow points where you want to go. Fly to the middle-west shaft, navigate left, drop and throw an egg at the wooden block to crush it, creating a path to a Character Coin that only Baby DK can collect. World 2-5: Boing!- - At the second area's bottom-left corner, you'll find a Debull. Flutter onto the platform above the Debull and ride it up. Head right, and use an egg to destroy the soil, and drop a Stork Stop. Now return to the gap that the platform rose into and drop east onto a line of M Blocks. Mario's Character Coin is just to the east. World 2-6: Donuts and Eggs- - From the start, move east, up and left across the egg-powered platforms. On the other side of this gap, switch to Mario, shoot the Piranha Plant Move past it and grab Mario's Character Coin before the screen catches up. World 2-7: Yoshi on Stilts- - From the start, move east. Switch to DK, and grab all the loot from the bottom path, but don't exit there. World 2-8: Big Bungee Piranha's Lair- - By the end of the level, you'll find a Bungee Piranha guarding a flower and Stork Stop Defeat it with an egg, and then change into Baby Mario. Now, drop down, head west and take the southern tunnel. Hit the M Block to create a sunflower allowing reach to Baby Mario’s coin. World 3-1: Up the Creek- - At the top of the waterfall you have to scale, you find a ledge that passes over DK's Character Coin. When the ledge ends, drop off, head west and grab the Baby Coin. Jump up to return to the ledge. World 3-2: The Goonie Coast Isn't Clear- - Once on top of the third ship, look for a locked door below a Bullet Blaster. Baby Peach's coin is right there. World 3-3: Island of Peril- -Once you reach the dark ship, head to the top of the ship and head east and climb to the crow's nest. From there, Flutter-Jump west repeatedly to reach a grassy ledge containing a Baby Coin that only Baby Mario can collect. World 3-4: Bessie Bass' Battleship- - When on the ship with DK on your back, enter the second to last pipe(at the left). Move left and kill the Crabble. Jump left to that ledge, move left and ground pound the blocks. The DK Coin is to the left. World 3-5: Heeeeeeeeeere's Wario!- - After beating the stage at least once, return to the pirate ship by a metal crate and attract the crate. Pull it over, and then jump over it and head east. Throw an egg at the rock to break it, and the ride the platform up to the next area. Head across the screen while destroying the rocks with eggs, and then pull the steel box west under the bouncer that's above some soil. Now stand on the crate and shoot an egg at the soil to make a path for the bouncer to fall. Now pull the crate out of the way and use the bounce to reach the next area. Switch to Baby DK at the Stork Stop and head east to collect Baby DK's Baby Coin. World 3-6: Use the Magnet to get Rich Quick!- - Near the end of the level, you'll find a stationary flower by a Stork Stop, floor switch and metal crate. Switch to Baby Wario and attract the crate. Near the end of the chase, jump to collect Baby Mario's Character Coin. World 3-8: Castle of Priscilla the Peckish- - In the second area, drop into the pit immediately to the right. You fall into another area. Swim left to find the Baby DK Character Coin. World 4-1: Rock 'n' Fall- - Near the middle of the level, where you're in the square room, move to the top-left. Switch to Peach and move left. Fly up to a stone. Pound it and it falls. Jump left to an alcove with Peach's Character Coin. World 4-2: High Speed Car Race- - Near the end of the level, ride the second to last mine cart. At the top of the hill, the cart flies into the air. Jump at the top of its arc to reach a Stork Stop. DK Dash across the gates, and you'll find the Character Coin up on a ledge. With Baby DK, stomp on the switch to make blocks appear temporarily. Jump up them, and at the set of blocks by the Character Coin, you'll find a block stack blocking the coin. You have three options. Do a perfect jump over the stack, bounce off an enemy to get extra "oomph", or wait till the blocks wear out, and then jump onto the platform. Either way, you can collect DK's Character Coin. World 4-3: In the Clouds- - At the sidescroller part of this level, use the Stork Stop at the middle of the scroller part to switch to Baby DK. Now, at the end of the sidescroller, bounce off the cloud to reach a rope, and swing off of it to collect DK's Character Coin from the cloud to the east. World 4-4: Six-Faced Sal's Fort- - At the room with the slots where you have to throw the numbered balls into, enter the top-right door. Jump on the east platform of each wheel to lower two crates, creating "steps" to the next part. At the Stork Stop, switch into Baby DK. Grab the hook to the northeast, and head east across the hooks. At the far east end, drop, and enter the next room. In here, switch to Baby Mario, and grab the key at the left side of the room. As soon as you grab it, the ceiling slowly falls. Dash back to the beginning of the room and switch back to Baby DK. Head through the door, and head back across the hooks. Here, switch back to Baby Mario. Now drop east, and exit through the door. Back at the main room, unlock the locked door at the left end of the room. Inside, jump onto the pipe and left to an M Block. Now start scaling this room, using the M Blocks and ledges. Enter the room at the northeast corner. Here, ride the platform south while avoiding the bats. Now, crouch to head under the spikes and the platform will ride you north, where a lot of bats attack. At the end of your ride, take the pipe to the room with Baby Mario's Character Coin. Use the door to return to the main area. 4-5: Friend or Foe?- - Once the stage is completed at least once, return and have Baby Bowser kill the Ptooie Piranhas in the first area. Then, return to the beginning and use the Stork Stop to switch to Baby Peach. Now continue through the snowy area until you enter a cave. Follow it through, and when you reach a bouncer, use it to vault up to the ledge. Use eggs to smash the soil, grabbing refresh eggs. At the northeast corner, you’ll find Baby Peach’s coin. 4.6: Slip Slidin' Away- - Near the middle of the level, you'll find a Stork Stop. Now, return to the left and feed the Gobblin two eggs. Bounce off of him to reach a ledge with a post. Jump to the post. Jump and grab the vine to the west, and jump east across the ropes to reach Baby DK's Character Coin. Double Dash through the rocks blocking it. World 4-7: Teeth-Chattering Chill Zone- - Near the middle of the stage, you'll find a second Goblin that gets bigger every time you hit it with an egg. Hit it three times with Baby Mario, and then bounce off of it to reach the above ledge. Hit the switch here to create a series of blocks that appear temporarily. Dash across them, jumping when needed, and from the last block set, dash west and jump to the ledge with the coin. World 4-8: Castle of Big Guy the Stilted- -After unlocking the locked door, head east across the screen and pass the Stilt Guys. At the far end, use the Stork Stop to turn into Baby Mario, drop down the steps and head east. If you need eggs enter the shaft northwest and eat the Shy Guys coming out of the pipe. Then return to the bottom of the steps. Shoot an egg at the stilts to drop the Shy Guy into sight, and then shoot him. Flutter east, and then flutter east again, and enter the door. When the Smother breathes fire on the ice blocks, they'll melt. Once the ice blocks melt, drop down the gap and head east. Eat the two Smothers to stop them from melting the ice "steps", and then use the ice blocks to reach the above ledge. Shoot an egg diagonally east to make a path to Mario's Baby Coin. If there's still some soil in your way, shoot it to destroy it. World 5-1: Rompin' Stompin' Chomps- -When the chomp chases you at the end, dash east with Mario, and once the Chomp starts moving, run west. This will slow him down. After about ten seconds, dash east, and jump the gap to find the Character Coin that use to be under soil that the chomp destroyed. World 5-2: Goonie Heights- - In the second area, once you get past the first big gap, use DK to dash through soil and reach the DK Character Coin. World 5-3: Spear Guys' Village Found- - When you reach the goal, run under the ring to find a secret hut that contains Baby Peach's Character Coin. Yes, a simple one to get, but hard one to find. World 5-4: The Fort of Moltz the Very Goonie- - A simple one to find, and grab. When you reach the platform that moves when you're on it and stops when you're off, ride it until you reach the area after the spikes where you see Baby Peach's Character Coin to the south. Drop down to grab it and then hit the switch to activate the flower, and then float back up to the platform. World 5-5: The Cave That Never Ends- - When you reach the "down-scroller" with spiked platforms that can be flipped if the Flipper Blocks are hit, float down, but hug the left wall to find a secret passage. If you follow it, you'll shortly see Baby Mario's Character Coin under some soil. Throw an egg at the middle of the soil, and stand on one of the side soil platforms. Now, flutter through the coin. World 5-6: Find the Number Balls- - Once you place all four numbered balls in their slots, enter the door that's created. In the next area, head east while avoiding the Skeleton Goonies until you find a Winged Cloud. Shoot it with Baby DK to create a rope. Climb it, and then flutter left to find DK's Character Coin. If you can reach it, climb up and bounce off a Goonie to the ball holding the rope. Flutter left. World 5-7: Superhard Acrobatics!- - After the area where you have to ride the balloons to reach the next area, avoid the Debulls and use the Stork Stop to the left of the second Debull to switch to Baby Peach. Use her ability to float up to a door. Inside, Flutter-jump left repeatedly to reach a ledge. If you fall, use the winds that appear every now and then to reach the ledge. There, switch to Baby DK. Now use the ton of vines to reach the Character Coin enclosed in the top-right corner. Avoid the Podoboos! ___________________________________________________________ _ 4.
