Walkthrough - Kirby 64 - Boss WalkthroughAlright, as the title says, I'm going to explain in full detail on how to take care of the main bosses in each Star of Kirby 64, from their attacks and weaknesses, to using the best abilities and tactics for the fight. I'm very experienced with this game, as I've beaten it 100% and have successfully made it through Boss Endurance mode without dying, so you know you're learning this from no amateur. Follow this guide and Im sure well beat all 7 bosses together. Let's get started! 1.) Whispy Woods The first, and easiest, of all the major bosses. This familiar face is the boss of Pop Star, and the only one that doesn't take the battle to a different area in his second form. Abilities avaliable: None Phases: 2 Recommended abilities: Bomb + Bomb (Missiles), Bomb + Cutter (Shuriken Bomb) The fight starts you out on a path around Whispy. Three Whispy Woods Juniors are also on the looped path. In order to for the fight to go to phase two, you need to kill them first. These guys always act the exact same as each other. They always attack at the same time, jump at the same time, and move at the same time, always facing the back of the one infront of them/having the back to the one behind them. They never make eye contact. They can attack by spitting their breath at you in one projectile puff. Otherwise, the only other way they can hurt you is by touching you, which is unlikely if you don't get close to them (which you'll never need to). During this, Whispy Woods will try to spit apples at you. Dodge them and suck them up. Then spit them at one of the Whispy Juniors. Lather, rinse, repeat until they're all gone. In phase two, Whispy battles independently with a permanent frown. He has 3 ways to attack you. As soon as Phase 2 starts, hell attack by making one of his 4 roots touch you. This will only hurt you if you are in the way when they appear or you walk into them. In actuality, this is his weak spot. If you do not have an ability the first time he uses this, you wont be able to attack him yet. If you do, attack one of the roots. If you are using a fast projectile ability, such as the ones I recommended, you might be able to attack the roots 2 or even more times by quickly alternating between the targets. After a little while, the roots will retract and he will use his other attacks. Most likely, he will next use his breath attack similar to the Whispy Juniors. More times than not, he will miss-aim the attack, so chances are you wont even get hurt if you just stand still. After doing this once or twice, he will shake his branches and send apples flying everywhere. Dodge them when they land and try to suck one up. They disappear briefly after and he will repeat his attack pattern (trying to get you with his roots once again). This is your chance to spit the apple at the root to cause damage. Doing this 6 times should defeat him. Note: If you manage to suck up 2 apples at once, you can do more damage to Whispy during this, as the projectile you spit back out will go through the first root you spit at and attack another root, meaning that only 3 double-appled attacks will rot his roots for good. 2.) Pix Major boss of Rock Star. Its an alien trio of floating polygons. One Red, one Blue, and One green. This one technically has only 1 form, but well count it as two phases anyway. Abilities available: None Phases: 2 Recommended abilities: Ice + Spark (Kirby Fridge), Bomb + Cutter (Shuriken Bomb) Phase 1 starts you off in an elevator, where you wont be able to fight the boss until you reach the top. The Red unit comes out from behind the pillar and starts to attack you by touching you with its extended tip. It will only move horizontally, and the tip is only pointing away from the pillar. This means that you can easily just squat the entire time without taking damage. Approximately every 5 seconds, it will change its direction. This lasts somewhere around 10 to 15 seconds before it changes its attack pattern. When the Red unit is done attacking, a second, Green unit will come out. They will stay on opposite sides of the pillar. This time, they flip as they move, meaning that you will have to run if you dont want to be hit. This can drain your health pretty quickly if you arent careful. Run along the same direction as the units. They are slightly faster than you are, so when they come close enough, time it and sprint the other direction to not get hit. As before, about every 5 seconds they change direction, and this lasts around 15 to 20 seconds. Finally, a third, and last, blue unit will arise from behind the pillar. All three of them will try what Red unit originally did, only they will hover up and down as they move. Again, same as before, run along with them to dodge the attacks and sprint the other direction when necessary. A small difference this time is that you might be able to duck or jump over the edges if youre lucky, but its not quite worth the risk if youre going through Boss Endurance. Same change time, same lasting pattern. Note: The reason I recommended the Kirby Fridge ability earlier is solely for this part. If you do happen to get hit, you can heal yourself using the food you create. Protip: If youre confident enough, you can try to stand where you are and only occasionally move left or right in Part 2 of Phase 1 when timing calls for it, and do the same thing (with the addition of jumping) for Part 3. At last, you reach the top of the elevator: The skies of Rock Star at the top of the Tower. Now you can actually start to damage the boss. The trio, Pix, will start to mix things up now instead of just pursuit you. It has three attacks, during all of which is can be damaged. One attack includes them going into a spinning loop as they move along the looped-path that will hurt you if you touch them. To dodge it, you have to jump through the center. Dont jump too high, or youll be hurt by the top section. Another attack includes the three of them taking positions farthest away from each other and dropping particles of their body beneath them. They never do it at the same time, they always alternate between Red -> Green -> Blue -> Repeat. It might be good to know this if youre trying to go after one of them to avoid being hit. Their last kind of attack is similar to what you encountered before, only in on-field form, extending their edges to attack. Red unit acts the same way it and Green unit did in Part 2 of Phase 1, Green unit acts the same way Red did in the first part of Phase 1 (only higher in the air, so you dont even have to duck under it to not get hurt), and Blue unit acts similar to how Red unit does, only all of its spin is on the field A full sideways 360, not just 180. By far the most potential out of the threes attacks. To damage Pix, you need to go with another reliable projectile once again. If youre going ability-less, then you need to suck up one of the 6 atoms that appear before every attack Pix makes, and spit them back at the units. Theyre not on the ground, but right above you. Jumping up and touching one will hurt you, so be careful. Each unit should go down after 3 hits from the atoms, so that makes a total of at least 9 atoms need to be used. Shuriken Bomb is also very reliable if you have that with you at this point. It basically does the same thing, only faster and with a boom. Fight hard until Pix is done for! Protip: If you decide to use the Kirby Fridge technique, you can take the ability out after you reach the top and throw it with good timing to attack two units in one throw. Similar to the double-apple attack back with Whispy Woods. 3.) Acro Anyone who has played Kirbys Dreamland 3 will immediately recognize this guy. Acro, the major boss of Aqua Star, has a fight that takes place underwater, which means that youre at a slight disadvantage (being somewhat slower than usual). Nonetheless, Acro isnt all that hard as long as you know what youre doing. Abilities available: Cutter Phases: 2 Recommended abilities: Bomb + Needle (Gordo Bomb), Bomb + Cutter (Shuriken Bomb) In phase 1, Acro will swim backwards to the right as he fires projectiles at you. These can be one of three things. A Skull, that you can swallow and spit back at him; A Bonefish, which you can either spit back at him or swallow to give yourself the cutter ability (which isnt really recommended underwater); or a Gordo, which just sinks down and bounces along the ground. During anytime you can spit the Skulls or Bonefish back at Acro for damage. After Acro reaches the end of the battlefield, he will attempt some fancy underwater maneuvering. Stand in the absolute bottom corner opposite from the side Acro is on so you are least likely to get hurt, but still can rack up damage on him easiest. He will try doing body slams on the ground or crashing face-first into the ground to crush you. Both attacks kick up rocks, which are your chances to suck them up and spit them back at him. Despite being rocks, they do not give you the stone ability. After damaging him 6 times, he will end his first phase. Note: You can possibly suck up both rocks, the one on your side and the one on the other side of Acro, to pull off another double-apple. However, it still does the same amount of damage as before, so it isnt an extra bonus or anything. As soon as you beat Acro in phase 1, he will partially explode and the area will begin to crumble. Quickly swim upwards or else you will die the same way you can die from falling via being left-behind in the abyss. This is a forced-scroll phase, so you will have to keep moving or eventually you will fall and die. Acro will attack from the bottom by launching Pedos at you and occasionally charging straight upwards. However, staying on the complete left or right will make you out of range from his attacks. You can suck up the Pedos and spit them back at him again for damage. There are also Squibbies and Blowfish on the sides that you can suck up and spit at him as well. Spit at him 6 times to finish him and let him sleep in the darkness. Note: Although Pedos and Blowfish are supposed to give you the Bomb ability, it is impossible to swallow them in this phase, as there is no floor. Therefore, Bomb wasnt included in the available abilities in this fight. The two abilities I recommend the most in this fight are either the Gordo Bomb or Shuriken Bomb. The Gordo Bomb makes you move even slower underwater than you did before, but in return, you fire 8 projectiles at the same time and earn a free not-getting-hurt advantage when you touch an enemy. This can be helpful for getting Acro diagonally, where he cant hurt you, and youre very likely to hit him. Shurkien Bomb, on the other hand, takes away that protection, but goes for a more direct method of attacking from a distance very quickly. Note: Yeah, I get it. I recommend the Shuriken Bomb a lot. What can I say Its a really good ability for boss fights. That speed, accuracy, and range makes it one of the best abilities in my opinion. 4.) Magman I actually find this guy to be my favorite boss. I dont know why. Perhaps its the funny face. Regardless, hes the major boss of Neo Star and you gotta beat him. He loves to play with lava--hes a living pile of it! This battle will get hot if youre not careful. Abilities available: Fire Phases: 2 Recommended abilites: Fire + Cutter (Fire Sword), Needle + Cutter (Snare) The first phase has Magman standing in the background of the stage. Youre not going to fight him directly yet. The arena has only 4 platforms you can stand on. If youre not on those platforms, youre either in the air or in a bath of lava. Be careful where you jump, or youll take damage from the lava. As for his attacks, hell try to do what he can with his tentacles. These 3 attacks include 3 tentacles covering 3 out of 4 platforms, where you must jump to the platform that isnt covered or youll get hurt; Sending the tentacles in a pursuit to lift up the platforms (which would make you touch the lava ceiling) in which you must jump to the another platform or else get burned; And trying to squish you with two tentacles. All of these attacks have a huge clue as to where they will strike, mostly because they take a while to initiate. The attack that covers the platforms is shown by where the tentacles stand in the background as they come towards you. Move to the platform that doesnt have a tentacle behind it to not take damage. When he sends them to lift up the platforms, he will only send one at a time (though somewhat quickly). The tentacle behind the platform it will lift will rush towards the platform, go under the lava, and crash the stone platform into the ceiling. He does this once to each of the 4 platforms, so move to the platforms that dont have tentacles moving towards them, then get back on the platform that has already been lifted so he wont attack in the same spot again. As for trying to squish you, the two rise up one at a time on either side of the platform they will attack. Your best bet is to go to a platform that doesnt have a tentacle next to it. If youre trapped, stand on the platform that had a tentacle rise 2nd, wait for the 1st one to drop, then quickly get back on the 1st ones platform before the 2nd one attacks. Inbetween every attack, 3 Magoos jump out of the lava. Suck up one of these and spit it back at the tentacles in order to hurt Magman. You can get the fire ability if you swallow one of them, but youre just asking to be hurt if you do. Youre better off just spitting the Magoos back at Magman. Doing this 6 times should make Magman move onto phase two. During any time that the tentacles are on the field in the battle, you can damage Magman. You should know this if you would like to finish him quickly. If you enter the battle with the Snare or Fire Sword, you can just stand on a platform and use them to attack the tentacles from afar (or in Fire Swords case, just looking the other direction of the tentacle to damage it). This can usually hurt Magman twice, meaning that doing this method will only take you 3 attacks from Magman in order to kill him. When Magman takes the last hit in his first form, he will sink into the lava in the background and appear on the farthest-left platform. Stand on the farthest-right platform and jump onto the solid cave ground when he starts to move to the right. Keep walking along during this quick forced side-scrolling change until he comes to a stop. Now you can fight him directly in his second form. During this, he has lost his tentacles, but he now has new attacks at his disposal. One very notable attack is that he can charge up his breath to breathe fire on you. This can be either very easy or very hard to avoid. As he starts charging up, which is shown when fire particles enter his mouth and starts to get a glow in his mouth, move closer to him and stand right before his puddle of lava. Quickly duck until the attack is over. This attack occasionally, though not very often, might attack you twice if you get caught in it when it first starts. Another attack is to firmly raise high and drop many rocks onto you. You can either dodge them, jump right under them to make them disappear, or suck them up. His last type of attack involves him going into the form of a lava puddle and moving across the floor. Jump over it to not take damage. After he crawls to the other side of the room, he will shoot out firey rocks and Burnises at you. The Burnises wont dive at you or release firey droppings, but you can still suck them up as usual. Again, you can get the fire ability from them, but its highly recommended that you dont, as the only way to attack Magman this way would also get you hurt. Note: If you have the Fire Sword or Snare, you can use these to your advantage. The rocks wont hurt you if you hold your Fire Sword up or keep your Snare wide open. These once very offensive abilities from before are now really good defensive ones! During anytime of this face (except when he is a puddle), you can attack his face to do damage. If you dont have an ability, then you need to suck up one of the falling rocks or one of the Burnises that he sends into the fight. The Snare might be hard to hit his face with, but the Fire Sword can be thrown as a projectile, or swung in the air. As before, it only takes 6 hits to bring him down. 5.) HR-H HR-H, the major boss of Shiver Star, and the last conventional one. The first time you this giant robot, you might not like it, but you get used to it after a little bit of practice. Either way, following this walkthrough should make the fight a lot easier. Abilities available: None Phases: 2 Recommended abilities: Bomb, Bomb + Cutter (Shuriken Bomb) HR-H has the widest range of attacks out of all the bosses youve fought so far. In its first form, it has 4 attacks. Quickly going down, we have to deal with missiles, its powerful arms, a laser, and its powerful arms AGAIN. The missiles will be launched at you from the background. There are a total of 4. When they come down from above, they hit the ground and explode. One or two of them malfunction, however, as they just stick to the ground before exploding after a little bit. To avoid them, just stand in the center where it is safest, because they will never go down in the center, just the panels next to it. You can suck these up to use against HR-H. Youd think you can get the Bomb ability from these (which would be nice in this fight), but sadly, you cant. Two of its attacks, the laser and swinging its arm, can both be dodged by a well-timed jump in the center as well. The laser is a lot faster than the arm, but the arm is partially in the air, so the arm is probably harder to dodge. When I said that its power arms are AGAIN an attack, I meant that it has a second, similar attack that uses its arms. The difference is that it will swing both of them towards the center, lift them up, and crash them down to flip up two rocks. If you touch the arms while they are going towards the center, youll be swept up, lifted, and thrown down to take damage, so be sure to dodge them. This is the only time where being in the center will not save you from attacks, so be on the move as soon as you see its arms raise. His only weakness in this form is, indeed, its arms. The blue tips of them take damage when hit by a spat-back rock or missile. You can take advantage of this during anytime its arms attack, though its a lot safer if you wait until HR-H tries to use both of its arms at the same time. If you suck up a missile, save it, and spit it at the arms before they raise up, and quickly suck up and spit a rock at them when the arms stop flashing, you can deal two hits from just one attack. As with every other boss so far, 6 hits is all you need to take his first form down. Note: You can also try that technique with Bombs and Shuriken Bombs for the same effect. Always try to fit in as many successful blows to HR-H as you can. Protip: The Shuriken Bomb is deadly to HR-H if you know how to use it right. When an arm swings by itself, throw a bomb just before its about to enter attacking range and jump. You landed an extra hit on it! Keep on doing this anytime the chance arises and it should only take half as long to beat HR-H. In its 2nd form, HR-H transforms into whats known as HR-E. Thats what we will refer it to from now on. During this phase, the level forcibly scrolls to the left as you try to battle HR-E. Its attacks are completely different this time, with the exception of the missiles, which are still somewhat different in how you dodge them. It can fire the missiles like usual, but instead of coming from the top and dodging in the middle, they will come directly from HR-E in an arch. Either get underneath HR-E or at the farthest-left point of the screen and jump. One of its other attacks includes trying to snap at you with its arms. Just jump over them when timing calls for it, or stay out of range (again, to the left or underneath it). Another new attack is its new, bigger missile that he fires from beneath itself. You can suck the cap off the missile, but the rest of the missile keeps going, so quickly jump over it when you get the cap inside you. Its last attack is flying way up high and coming down to crush you. When it does this, go all the way to one side, wait for it to come down, and make a dash for the other side. To hurt HR-E, you have to attack his black front. You know the story by now. Anything you suck up and spit back at it hurts him. 6 times kills him. Yadah yadah yadah. The only other thing I have to say about defeating HR-E is that if you have the bomb ability, you can stand underneath him and keep on throwing bombs right underneath its front to constantly damage HR-E without the risk of getting hurt by most of its attacks. Note: If you take too long to defeat HR-E, the bridge will eventually run out, and you will fall and die from falling into the abyss. I have never taken this long before. Infact, I deliberately did it just to see what would happen. You have plenty of time to kill him, but its just a warning. 6.) Miracle Matter Major boss of Ripple Star, the fake Final Boss of the whole game, and 2nd-in-command with the directly connected Dark Matter. This is a unique fight, as it only has one phase and is impossible to defeat without the use of abilities, if at least not their essences. Abilities available: Fire, Ice, Spark, Cutter, Stone, Needle, Bomb Phases: 1 Recommended abilities: None Miracle Matter has a main form and 7 other offensive forms based off of all 7 main abilities available throughout the course of the game. Each form is weak to its specific ability. Attacking its main form or any other form that isnt based off of the ability youre using will do nothing. You can still combine abilities to attack 2 of its forms, but the other 6 become invincible to your attacks. Your best bet is to enter with no ability at all and suck up whatever Miracle Matter has to offer. Occasionally, if you suck up an ability and its about to change forms, you can swallow it and try to combine it with its next form in the hopes that you can create more damage that way. A number of abilities are effective. Likewise, there are a large number that I do NOT recommend, in which case a better scenario would be to just spit the ability at Miracle Matter. Lets go through its forms. I will also list which abilities are effective to use against them. Fire Matter: Has 3 attacks, all based off of the same basic one. It can either shoot fire vertically 3 times, shoot fire horizontally 2 times, or shoot fire in all four directions 1 time. Every steam of fire leaves behind a lump of heat that you can use to spit at Fire Matter. Effective: Fire + Fire, Fire + Cutter, Fire + Stone, Fire + Needle, Fire + Bomb Ice Matter: All it can do is float around with several triangular blocks of ice revolving around it. Suck them up and spit them at Ice Matter to damage it. Dont get hit by the other blocks while you jump! Effective: Ice, Ice + Spark, Ice + Needle Spark Matter: This one can be tricky. It stays in the center and fires beams of electrons at you. Go to either corner of the move and dont move. To dodge them, just time your jumps. The beams will become a lot less confusing that way. Suck up the balls of energy left behind when Spark Matter is done firing them and spit them at it. Effective: Spark + Spark, Spark + Cutter, Spark + Stone, Spark + Needle Cutter Matter: Cutter Matter is 100% physical. It will fly around in a circle a few times before sawing at the ground. Suck up its smallest piece behind it and spit it at Cutter Matter to hurt it. Effective: Cutter, Cutter + Fire, Cutter + Spark, Cutter + Cutter, Cutter + Needle, Cutter + Bomb Stone Matter: It hovers above you and tries to crush you. Run back and forth so it cant get you. It will also drop 4 rocks, 2 at a time on both sides of itself. After dropping the four, it will fall down and roll around the room. Suck them up and spit them back at Stone Matter. Effective: Stone + Fire, Stone + Spark, Stone + Needle Needle Matter: This form is so easy to handle that its not even funny. It will stretch its 8 needles across the room in specific directions. There is a gap between each of these strikes. Simply stand in the gaps and wait for the needles to retract in order to attack. When a needle retracts, it leaves behind a needle projectile you can use. Swallow it or spit it at Needle Matter. Either way, you should be able to take down this form on the first or second time. Effective: Needle + Fire, Needle + Ice, Needle + Spark, Needle + Cutter, Needle + Needle, Needle + Bomb Bomb Matter: This form is the most unpredictable one. It releases four bubbles, each with a bomb inside. After moving for a tiny bit, they divide to make an empty bubble, making a total of 8 bubbles going around the screen. After they all pop, the 4 bomb essences stay in place. Quickly suck one up and spit it at Bomb Matter. Effective: Bomb, Bomb + Fire, Bomb + Cutter, Bomb + Needle, Bomb + Bomb Each form should take about 3 or 4 hits. After a form it destroyed, it will never return to it again. Once all of its forms are destroyed, Miracle Matter will be defeated. 7.) 02 (Zero Two) The true final-boss. Zero Two, the returning soul of Zero exacting his revenge, is the last fight. Different from anything you have ever fought in the entire game. Abilities available: Ribbon, Shard Gun Forms: 1 Recommended abilities: None Instead of the usual side-scrolling style that youve encountered with every single boss in Kirby 64, this time you go onto a more climatic setting: A 3rd-person shoot-em-up. You press B to shoot and move any direction but forward and back. The controls seem a little odd at first, but then you quickly get used to them. 02 is one strong baddie. Right from the start of the fight, hell be using one of his only two moves. He launches a ball of light out of his eye, which then multiplies into 6 balls, and they all explode when in attacking range. This is much faster done than said. You want to constantly avoid the balls by moving around, preferably in a full circle. Clockwise or Counter-clockwise, either way is fine. While you do, you need to shoot 02 in the eye with your Shard Gun. Your aim is more precise when youre not moving, so when you find the chance, quickly take a break from moving to shoot him in the eye. After enough hits, 02 will be stunned for a little while. Now is your chance to shoot the halo. Keep on shooting it until it disappears. After that, some sort of spiky-green tail sprouts out of 02s underside. Shooting this is the only way to create real damage to 02, so hit him as much as you can. Careful though, as 02 releases a green substance that hurts you when hit by the Shard Gun. Wail on it and dodge, and you might be able to take out as much as half 02s health in just one try at it. Repeat this strategy until 02 is dead once and for good. Note: If you shoot 02s wings enough, the red-feathers will disappear, and 02 will move slower from there on, giving you an advantage. Take out the wings or the tail, its your call, whatever will get you out of there alive. --------------------------------------- Thats it! Youve beaten every boss in the game! Congratulations! See if you can beat them all with one life without healing. After that, see if you can handle Boss Endurance mode. If you can, you are a true Kirby 64 Master. ~Guide written 100% originally by blaziken1234~ |
