Walkthrough - Editor FAQ================================================= Championship Manager 01/02 Editor FAQ Version 1.0 ================================================= Introduction: Contact: Email: djrampella@yahoo.co.uk MSN Messenger: djrampella@hotmail.com AIM: StimulantSteve I covered everything pretty extensively, but if you spot something I missed, feel free to email me, and I'll update the FAQ. This is for Editor 1.1.0 - Which comes with Championship Manager 01/02 ============================ Contents ============================ 1.0 - Creating a New... 2.0 - Editing Existing Items 2.1 - Staff Edit 2.2 - Clubs 2.3 - Nations 2.4 - Stadia 2.5 - Cities 2.6 - Continent 2.7 - Staff Competitions 2.8 - Club Competitions 2.9 - International Competitions 2.10 - Officials 2.11 - Colours 2.12 - First, Second & Common Names 3.0 - Using Menu Commands, Search & Filter 4.0 - Problems with the Editor / Technical ============================ 0.0 - Creating a New... ============================ Here I will explain how you create your teams, players etc, in the game. To start off, hit the Edit menu, and select New Item. A dialog box will appear, select what you want to create, and click Create>>. You will be able to create: Staff, Club, Nation, Stadium, City, Continent, Name..., Official, Weather Configuration and Staff Configuration. When you choose any of these, it will close the dialog box, and the created item will be selected. It will be at the bottom of the list, with no name (blank space). Regardless of the name you set, it will stay at the bottom of the list. Read on from Section 1.0 Editing from the Toolbar, for details on editing your created item. Remember, when you create an item, you will need to make sure you set it up properly, as everything is set as a blank initially. Take a club for example, you have no players, and are not registered in a nation or league. You may need to remove a team from a league in order to add your own club. This is all covered in Section 1.0 Note: This sort of editing is most likely to cause inconsistencies, and can have unexpected results. Refer to section 2.0. ============================ 2.0 Editing Existing Items ============================ I will work from left to right of the main toolbar, from Staff Edit to Weather. ============================ 2.1 Staff Edit ============================ Finding a player/staff - On entering staff edit mode, you will notice a staff list on the left hand side. This covers playing and non-playing staff. You can use the scrollbar to go through everyone, or click on the list and begin typing a name. As you type, what your typing will be seen at the bottom of the list. The list will select the closest result to what you type, changing as you type. If more than one player matches the result, the player closest to the top of the list will be select. For example, typing Smith would select the player Aaron Smith. From there you can scroll down to the desired player, or put a comma and type the first name, e.g Smith, Alan. Editing a player/staff - Each staff member has multiple different tabs. Some tabs are only available for certain types of staff, player or staff. When I specify Non-playing staff, that includes player-managers. 1: Personal [Everyone] The personal section is pretty self-explanitory. You should note that Common Name is how they will be reffered to in the game. Classification is used for setting whether they are a player, manager, coach etc. Nationality is fairly simple too. Staff Configurations can be used to set up future injuries for players, future transfers, retirements, etc. 2: Contract [Everyone] Club contract allows you to set details of current contract, including contract expiry, wages and more. Job as is used to specify their role at the club. If you change a players Job as, you will receive a prompt, and it will change the players Classification from the Personal Section to the relevant one. e.g If you change a players Job as to manager, it will change the Classification to manager. The Nation Contract is only available for managers, coaches, scouts, and player-managers. You can set up their contract with a national side. If you attempt to assign a manager to a nation who already has a manager, a prompt will appear. If you choose to proceed, the existing manager for that nation will have his contract reset. If you choose cancel, nothing will happen. 3: Mental [Everyone] You will find the majority of people have their statistics in this section all set to 0. If you hover your mouse over the text boxes you will see "0 (random) - 20 (best)." This is actually wrong. When set to 0, the actual statistic set for the player is determined by their other statistics. A great player will, of course be given good statistics. You can leave the stats at 0's, or you can specify them yourself. You can also specify an individual statistic, and leave the rest at 0. These statistics are hidden in-game. 4: Preferences [Everyone] This is extremely simple. You can specify Favourite clubs and staff, and disliked clubs and staff. This will be taken into account with transfers. Looking at David Beckham, you will see he dislikes Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham. If one of them clubs tried to buy him, he would be likely to reject the move straight away. 5: Coach [Non-Playing Staff] This is used to set the statistics for non-playing staff. These are the statistics that you see when viewing a member of staff in-game. For time-saving, you can simply set the statistics on the left hand side, and leave the rest at 0. Statistics left as 0 will be determined in relation to how you set the Non-playing ability stats. The left hand side statistics have a 0-200 range, and the ones on the right have a 0-20 range. Choosing the handyman sets everything at full. However, this is not how they will come up in the game. The game will set the stats so they are good, normally ranging from 14-20. I am not sure if the Non-playing abilities are altered, but I expect they are. 6: Types [Non-Playing Staff] This is pretty simple. It is basically their preferences. Setting position favourites will usually result in attempts at buying that player. It will also mean they will nearly always try and play them, and support them if they're getting criticism. Preffered formation is again, self explanatory. 7: Position [Players] This is very much related to the next bit I will cover, Player. The Playing ability section takes values from 0-200, and allows you to set reputation and ability stats. The Sides section is pretty simple, and allows you to set values 0-20 which determine how good the player is at certain sides. Lastly, the Positions bit allows you to set 0-20 values which determine how good they are at certain positions. The "norm" here is to simply set values relating to a player. e.g You would only really need to change a strikers position value. All values left at 0 will be determined in relation to the statistics you have set, so don't worry about filling in every field. Choosing the handyman sets everything at full. However, this is not how they will come up in the game. The game will set the stats so they are good, normally ranging from 14-20. I am not sure if the Non-playing abilities are altered, but I expect they are. 8: Player [Players] Very simple section. You can specify player skills ranging from 0-20. As before, all values left at 0 will be determined in relation to the statistics you have set, so don't worry about filling in every field. For these stats, those left at 0 are strongly influenced by what you set on the Positon tab (No.7). Choosing the handyman sets everything at full. However, this is not how they will come up in the game. The game will set the stats so they are good, normally ranging from 14-20. 9: History [Everyone] Use this to edit/write a players history. Click on the blank space under club, and small box should appear. This details all the clubs in the game. You can scroll to the desired club, or just start typing, and it will find the club closest to what you type. The other fields can simply be typed in. You MUST specify a club and a season, or the it will not save what you enter. ============================ 2.2 Clubs ============================ Again, I will go through the tabs. In this section, the tabs relate to all the clubs, so I won't be writing [Everyone] after each. :P 1: Details Here you set the basic stats such as the club name, the short name - how it will be reffered to in-game. Also, you set the Nation, the League Divison and Last position - which is where they finished in the division the previous year. Reserve division is rarely set, and I am pretty sure it is used for setting what League / Competiton the clubs reserve side is in. Messing with this may get some unusual results, and I am not sure how it works. You can set the training standards and reputation, ranging from 0-20. I believe choosing 0 for these will actually pick a random number from 1-20, and isn't related to other stats you set. You can set Cash, and the maximum is determined by Reputation. Set reputation to 20, you can give a team a lot of money. Set it to 1, you can hardly give it any money. The PLC option, it's pretty obvious what it means, but I am not entirely sure what the resulting effect of this option is. If you know, please email me. 2: Stadium You can set the clubs stadium here. Click the list, and the same box comes up, listing all the Stadia. Scroll down or simply type a stadium name. You choose whether the club owns the stadium also. An extreme majority of clubs, if not all, DO NOT own their stadium. I don't know who does, but not them. I can only imagine setting it so you do own the stadium to be beneficial, most likely financially. You can also assign your reserve side a stadium. Home match day is pretty obvious, the norm being Saturday. I am not sure whether this will affect the dates for the fixture list, but I would guess that it would. You also can set the normal attendance (average), the highest, and the lowest. 3: Preferences What can I say? You choose Rival clubs, favourite staff and disliked staff. As always, when selecting a player / club, you can scroll to the player / club, or simply type the name. 4: Colours Pretty simple, click the drop down menu for a list of colours. Background colour is usually set to the clubs colour, or the main colour of the shirt. Foreground is just for setting the text colour. This text appear on top of the related background colour. Basically, don't go setting 1st Background colour to the same as the 1st Foreground colour, or you won't see the text! 1st, 2nd 3rd are quite obviously your club strips, 1st being the main, home strip, 2nd being the away, etc. 5: Board Extremely simple, you can set your chairman and upto 3 directors. If you attempt to assign a player of the club your editing, it will tell you they are contracted as a player there, and cancel it. If you choose someone contracted from another club, you are prompted that his contract will be updated, and you can proceed or cancel. If you choose a player for any role in this section, his "classification" will be updated to "Player and Non-Player" 6: Staff Simple again, choose a manager, assistant manager, and all other non-playing staff. If you attempt to assign a player of the club your editing, it will tell you they are contracted as a player there, and cancel it. If you choose someone contracted from another club, you are prompted that his contract will be updated, and you can proceed or cancel. If you choose a player for any role in this section, his "classification" will be updated to "Player and Non-Player" 7: Squad The final section for clubs. Here you can set up to 50 players to be included in your squad. When adding, you have a few contract details to set in a box that comes up. You can even add managers to your squad, heheh. If you do add someone from another club, their classification and contract will automatically update. ============================ 2.3 Nation ============================ This section will be fairly short, and my knowledge here is pretty basic. Each nation has the same tabs. Here we go: 1: Details Here you can set the names, and a three letter name, which is displayed at numerous times in-game, like when it shows match listings, beside England it shows ENG, which is their 3 letter name. For a lot of existing nations, you can not edit the name, as it is required to remain the same by the game. It will tell you this at the top, just under the title. Nationality name is simple, England's being English, Germany's being German etc. You can also assign a manager. As always, the person assigned will have their classification altered if neccesary. You also set the regions, which is important, because each region has different settings like weather and attraction, but I'll cover that later. 2: Stats I think it's wise not to edit this section unless neccesary. Stats like "no. of staff" are non-editable. You can change them, but they are changed automatically back to what they should be. The rest is pretty self-explanitory, so I'll leave that to you. 3: Coefficients I believe setting these numbers determines rankings. Have a look at other nations to understand typical values. 4: Preferences This is basically the same as with clubs. You set rival nations, e.g England's rivals being Germany. The ingame effect will be probably be things like higher interest in matches between clubs, etc. The background colour sets the main colours for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd team kit. The foreground colours sets the text that appears over the related background colour. Obviously, don't set them to be the same! :P ============================ 2.4 Stadia ============================ Another short section, since each stadium only has 1 tab. For each stadium, you can set the stadium name, the location ( city - see 1.5 ) and the capacity. You also set the seating capacity, which has of course, got to be equal or lower than the capacity, or none at all. You also choose whether the stadium is covered, and whether it has undersoil heating. Nearby stadium is pretty pointless I think, and can't think of a time when it's used in the game. ============================ 2.5 Cities ============================ Again, just the 1 tab. You can choose all the usual stuff like Name and Nation. Setting the attraction is important, because if a club is located in a city with low attraction, they may have trouble buying players. Who would want to live in a horrible place? For the weather, you can choose from a set list. Pretty simple, if you choose English type weather, it will rain alot. If you choose spain, it will be sunny. Simple eh? ============================ 2.6 Continent ============================ There's only 6 initially, and theres not much to edit. Regional strength is relative to things such as: A country is applying to host the World Cup. Depending on what continent there on, their chances of a successful bid will change in relation to regional strength. It won't make a lot of difference, but it will make some. The rest is extremely self-explanitory. =D ============================ 2.7 Staff Competition ============================ This details all the competitions that individuals receive, including players and non-playing staff. You can only edit the colours and history for Staff Competitions. The colours are for when viewing the competition details (history), with the foreground colour being the text colour, and the background colour being the colour behind the text. Those competitions with no colours specified, use the colours of your club (like the news section). For the history tab, you choose the past winners, 2nd and 3rd placed. You type in the season yourself, as a single integer. To select a player, simply double click the space where his name is to go, and choose him from the list. When the list appears, you can type a players name, starting with the surname, to help you find the required player. ============================ 2.8 Club Competition ============================ Theres 3 tabs here, but some only have 2, depending on the type of competition. For implementing a club into a cup competition, you will have to add them to a league. This should add you to some cups, but for others, you may need to play a year in the game. On the first page, you can only edit the colours. The colours are for when viewing the competition details (history), with the foreground colour being the text colour, and the background colour being the colour behind the text. Those competitions with no colours specified, use the colours of your club (like the news section). For the History page, you can choose past winners and the host, from the list of clubs. To select a club, simply double click the space where the club is to go, and choose it from the list. When the list appears, you can type a clubs name, to help you find the club. You type in the season yourself, as a single integer. The Clubs page is only available when editing a league. All cups have their participants fixed, depending on built-in history. I am not sure if you can change it by editing a clubs "Last Position", though I doubt it. (email me if you know this). For those that you can edit, it is highly likely you will have to delete an existing participant first. Simply hit the DEL button, then hit ADD, and select the desired club. When the list appears, you can type a clubs name, to help you find the club. ============================ 2.9 International Competitions ============================ Allows you to make slight edits to the set competitions. You can not edit so that a created nation appears in one of these competitions. On the first page, you can only edit the colours. The colours are for when viewing the competition details (history), with the foreground colour being the text colour, and the background colour being the colour behind the text. Those competitions with no colours specified, use the colours of your club (like the news section). For the History page, you can choose past winners and the host, from the list of teams. To select a teams, simply double click the space where the team is to go, and choose it from the list. When the list appears, you can type a team name, to help you find the team. Only national sides appear on the list. You type in the season yourself, as a single integer. ============================ 2.10 Officials ============================ All the officials (refs) have 2 tabs. The details tab is for their personal details. Their Nation will determine what country they referee in. Depending on their stats on the 2nd tab, they may referee other competitions, such as the Champions League. The Attributes tab consists of two parts. The first 3 stats you can set have a range of 0-200. You set the current ability, the potential ability (usually higher than current), and reputation. Reputation will be changed by the game over time, to suit the referee as he changes. The second part has ranges of 0-20. You can leave some stats blank, and they will be worked out by the game in relation to the current ability stat, which I reccomend you set. If you don't, then it will be random. ============================ 2.11 Colours ============================ Here you can edit the game colours. These are the colours referenced by clubs, nations, competitions. I advise you not to edit the colours, unless it's absolutely neccesary. Instead of changing the intensity values, I suggest hitting the arrow next to preview, and choosing a colour that way. ============================ 2.12 First, Second & Common Names ============================ This is a pointless section. If you need to edit a staff member, do so using the Staff Edit feature. The count attribute is how many times the name is used, and each name appears once for every country. Strange =P Count is sort of uneditable, and will change back to it's actual value even if you edit it. ============================ 2.13 Staff Configuration ============================ Another section that isn't needed. This is exactly the same as "Staff Configurations" that appears at the bottom on the Personal Tab in Staff Edit. It can be used to set up future injuries for players, future transfers, retirements, etc. You can add new Staff Configurations (you can have multiple per-player), by clicking the Edit menu, selecting New Item. Choose Staff Configuration, you will be asked to choose a player. Once done, you will be taken to the configuration. Set it up from there. I reccomend doing these from the Staff Edit section, as it's much simpler. ============================ 2.14 Weather ============================ This contains the attributes for individual weather setups. The attributes are all in the range –1 to 100. -1 means that this conditon is non existant. When you set the values 1-100, it acts as a %. Take precipitation as an example: Dry: 75 Wet: 80 Drizzle: 90 Shower: 100 Down pour: -1 There will never be a down pour. It will be dry 75% of the time. It will be wet 5% of the time (75-80), Drizzle 10% of the time, and shower 10% of the time. A bit strange how it works, but that's it. (I had to check up on this =P) ============================ 3.0 Using Menu Commands, Search & Filter ============================ Here I will cover some of the commands found in the menus. I won't bother with File, Edit and Help menus, they're pretty obvious to use. =P Search Menu: In here you'll find a simple Find function. Use this to locate any text string in the editor. This can be a club, player, stadium or anything. The matching result will be selected. This goes in hand with the Find Next function, which finds the next matching result. Use it after the Find feature. There is also the advanced search. When you choose this, a window pops up, with ALL the tabs from the relative edit screens (like Player / Non-player). Obviously you can't put in info for a coach and a player, as there won't be a match. This search returns a single result. The Find Next feature cannot be used with this feature. Last thing I'll cover here is the Filter. Extremely like the Advanced Search, but this returns all matching results. After performing a search, only the matching results will be shown on the left side, as opposed to all results, like normal. You can cancel a filter by choosing Cancel Filter from the menu. Both the Advanced Search and Filter have an Compare Using option at the bottom of the window. The options are their functionality are: ==: This returns an exact result only. =>: This returns matching results, and those higher. e.g. You enter 15, it will return 15-20. = |
