You don't need your herbs until you need to make a potion. Click on the bag of herbs to activate it into the small window.. click on the potion distiller sitting on the table in his basement and it should open your bag showing your herbs.. click the amount of herbs you need.. example.. if you need three watersleep and three bloodstone there will be three dots at the side marking the amount of two types of herbs you need then you just click the potion distill picture in the inventory to create the potion. The people don't speak to each other, you have to talk to them by choosing the dialogue.
