Far Cry Review :

An instant classic from start to finish.

by 5-Year-Old Dec 20, 2010

I started playing this game a couple years back and the moment my eye was set on it (once the first mission began) it was beautiful. Not only visually, but in all of the compartments: the gameplay, the story, all of it. And now you're wondering why to which you will find out... Let's continue.
First, I just have to give this a award for it's graphics. The graphics of this game were far ahead of their time. They are still so amazing that you can compare them to today's standards. Now I'm not one of those people that make a big deal out of graphics but they do make the game better even in the slightest. If this game didn't have the graphics it has it wouldn't really count as Far Cry but it would still be a classic if everything was still the same.
Now I am going to get to the story. The story is also amazing. For it's length, it's not EXTREMELY long but it's still goes for a good length and for the most part it makes sense. In fact, the story is so good it will be beg you to keep coming back and back, just to play it again. It's really that good.
Basically, the story is about you, Jack Carver, an ex-U.S. Special Forces operative, are stranded on an island and must find your way back to civilization. Oh, but don't worry - it's worse, much worse. It involves the dangers of weaponizing genetic engineering and the genocide of local islanders as can be seen by the deformed creatures created by a mad scientist named Krieger. And of course, this is not good, not good at all. However, they add more content to the game such as the scare factor (watch out! they are EVERYWHERE) which leads us to gameplay.
The gameplay is very, very good! Actually it's so good that I'd have to put a billion verys before good. before I get to the point of gameplay, the environment and atmosphere, being a major aspect in the gameplay, is interesting. The advanced vegetation gives you the ability to hide and be stealthy along with other means. If it's night time, the lighting is good. If the sun is up, the shadows are good, everything is good. It's always good. And the voice acting is always good and that's a very good thing. Oh and the AI is extremely intelligent and will be like real humans: they are unpredictable.
Now back to gameplay, while you are outdoors you have to choice to ignore the direction marked on your mini-map and get to that point the way you choose. This is a definite positive IMO as it promotes non-linearness which means variety and variety is the spice of life. (However, this attribute is lost in-doors.) Multiplayer consists of 3 mode: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Assault, an attack/defend mode. Given this game's great gameplay, the multiplayer plays out great as well.
So overall, buy this game and it's nearly guaranteed you'll like it.

9Story line
The story is very good. It's good enough that it keeps you coming back for more and more. It's also the right length and makes sense.
For it's time the graphics for this game were a beast. They were some of the best for a long time. And still today the graphics of Far Cry are still pretty impressive, powered by the CryENGINE.
The sound is not bad at all. The voice acting is very good. There's nothing wrong with this category. The sound is nothing amazing but it's good.
The gameplay of Far Cry is really good. Like any FPS your goal is to kill. But Far Cry isn't all about shooting everything that moves. It's non-linear and you can explore the whole map. there's not one path, there's many paths. You can be a sniper or you can be sneaky, it has many possibilities.
10Lasting Appeal
Far Cry still remains a classic to this day. It's a pretty impressive game especially since at first it was just made to show off the power of the CryEngine. There's not really any bad things you can find in this game. The only thing I've found bad about is that it is not compatible with Windows 7.
(Out of 10)
