Guide to Differences in the Script - Playstation / PC Versions of
Final Fantasy VII

Reader's Advisory: Reading this guide is really simple because of one
helpful fact bout the alterations to the script between the two versions
of the game. While dialogue is changed, no actual lines are. By this, I mean
that you can match up lines quote for quote from one version to another. To
expedite your reading, I have included the full text of each line within
a particular quote from both versions, assuming there's an alteration.
Made-Up Example:
Cloud: "I really don't like Sephiroth. And, I will defeat him..."
Cloud: "Sephiroth is my mortal enemy! I must finish him!"
My default party (though not my preferred party) was Cloud, Tifa and Aeris,
since this seems to be the party the game pushes you towards. If one
wasn't available, characters were generally substituted in the following
order: Barret, Yuffie, Cid, Cait Sith, Red XIII, Vincent. Currently, the guide
contains very little alternate party dialogue. This will be updated in future
versions.
Please note that this is not a comprehensive script of the game -- you will
find many portions missing because the dialogue has not been altered for those
lines in any significant (see "not covered") way.
WARNING: This guide contains some mild profanity because the script does.
In fact, that's part of the point of the guide -- some of these obscenities
are censored in the PC version.
WARNING 2: As this guide contains a good portion of the script for the game,
it contains spoilers throughout, obviously.
Things not covered in this FAQ:
- Differences between the two versions not related to the script
- Minor differences in spacing, punctuation, or capitalization,
I don't want to be ridiculous. Generally, whenever "......" or even more
dots are used in the Playstation version, they're replaced with simply
"..." or even just "." in the PC version. These sorts of changes will not
be noted unless they concur with other changes in the actual wording of
the dialogue. Same with "the Planet" vs. the planet," etc. There are also
many instances where a question mark replaces a eriod, or vice versa. One
other example --- many instances of Scarlet saying "Ha, ha, ha, ha!" are
changed to her "Kya, ha, ha, ha!" in the PC version, again these will not be
noted unless they coincide with other changes. The same is true with
Heidegger's laugh. Very rarely, I may note a change made only to the
punctuation, but only if I feel it's a particularly significant change.
- Areas where the PC version script retains grammatical ("Engrish") errors
from the Playstation version of the game. Example -- Cait Sith's
"I'm so exited!" is present in both versions. That's the only example you'll
see here -- this is a differences FAQ.
