Hints - Re: Everton

by 00Glen Apr 17, 2006

Although this season's installment is indeed more difficult than it's previous incarnation, I still managed to complete an irresistible treble of Champions League, League and FA Cup in the second season with my beloved Everton . With my youth - orientated side I have since gone on to win four subsequent titles and two more European cups. So yes, it is possible. Here's a few pointers:

Invest heavily in promising teenagers as soon as you can and develop them with world - class coaches and appropriate training schedules for each position. NB - If you find good coaches then their reputations will soar to 'World Class' within a season or two. The more coaches the better. Same goes for scouts; the best scouts will obviously discover the best new talent.

Then just watch your players' attributes soar!

At the start of each season, keep an eye on quality players who are in the last year of their contract. Register your interest in them and they might consider their options, particularly if you have had recent successes. This way you can snap them up for free in the summer or else get them for a knockdown price in the transfer window. In this fashion, I acquired Fred, Lyon's Brazilian striker, for 4m. He has since gone on to become the best striker in the world, averaging over 8 and 40 goals a season.

Keep your team talks motivational rather than disparaging to keep your sqaud on top form. Same goes for commenting on other managers.

Finally, for posterity's sake, here is my first and second XI:

GK-Sebastien Frey (acquire from Parma for peanuts - he will be a top keeper)

D R-Rincon (Sao Paulo , free)

D L-Taye Taiwo (I'd say a complete full-back to rival Carlos in his heyday - this guy can do everything)

D C-Joseph Yobo - already at the club but I'd definately try and sign him if not playing as Everton - v.consistent

D C-Nigel De Jong - (Ajax, relatively pricey)

AM R-Ferreira (another Brazilian I picked up for nothing from Santos, I think. A striker but easily converted to R Winger, averaging over 8

AM L-James McFadden (again already at the club and fulfilling his early promise. Don't play him as a striker though.

M C-Tim Cahill (capt) - legend.

M C-Kim Kallstrom (will cost you a few mil from Rennes and I've heard others say he is inconsistent, but he does the business for me

S C-Fred - see above

S C-Michael Owen - on a bosman when his Newcastle contract expired

2nd XI:

GK-Alessandro (young Brazilian keeper, Athletico Miniero, free. New Marcos.

D R-Anthony Vanden Borre (buy him from Anderlecht for 750K at the start of the game aged 17. Over the next few seasons he will be your best defender. Gone off the boil tho' for me recently - burnout perhaps?!?

D L-Lee Molyneux - one of my academy trainees, I've just given him his first England cap. Excellent Mental strength

D C-Matteo Ferrari - again, one of Moyes' boys and been a loyal servant to me.

D C-Scott Wilkinson - another of my young lads I'm mentoring closely

AM R-Alessandro Pfeifer - nicked him for nothing from Roma(?) now Italy international and not in the team due to brilliance of Ferreira

AM L-Samir Nasri (outstanding prospect from Marseille, had a great start to his Toffees career but has been beset by injury)

M C-Mario Clausi (don't buy him, he's not strong enough in a challenge to seriously undertake the holding role)

M C-Filipe Ribiero (Get him for nothing from Porto's B team. NOW.

S C-Jimmy Briand (Lightning quick striker, Rennes. Free.

S C-Emmanuele Colombo (Stole him from Juve's youth team. How I laughed when they tried to buy him back three years later for 9M. Needlees to say, it was rejected.
