I hate the flood and I'm on the level where you're the Arbitor and you have to retrive the index from the library but the flood and all these annoying sentinals are everywhere!!! ..

Here's the trick

Wherever your enemies are is usually your way to get to the index. (I've beat Halo 2 on
all the difficulties, but in Legendary I only got several levels done.)
