I have completed the new student misssion and now it will not unlock the next level do i need to complete the first levels all the way through hard first or what

I've gotten through all the sessions up till Part 1 Building in hard setting. I haven't used any cheats or changed files. For 2 weeks I've been trying one thing then another trying to get through Part 1 Building on hard. I've raised chickens, hogs, & angus ...
