Can't shoot the sheild down to get to the Falcon in "Escape from Echo Base" Episode 5, Chapter 2

I get to the end, I rebuild the turret guns and shoot at the sides of the forcefield, but I cannot destroy them so I can get to the Millienum Falcon. HELP!!!
