Try building a fence or something but don't completely shut it.
Place a few torches around it.
After a while animals should start coming inside.
Cover it with a door so you can get in and out.
And wa la!
This worked for me when I was out exploring and after a whole day when I came back my
shelter was a ZOO!!

the only thing you can old as pet is a wolf, just give him some bones... he gets a red
belt when it became your pet, you can keep up to like 50wolfes, you feet them with
porkchop, they will attack any enemy that attacks you, but NOT CREEPERS. just search the
minepedia for further instructions :)

yes the only pet you can have is a wolf and you can only capture it by tamining it using
bones.

it adds new creeepers, dangerous ones, and one is tameable with gunpowder, while the mod
still has some glitches, the friendly creeper randomly blows up when you get hit. he can
blow so many times up as he wants till he gets hit by an enemy atleast 3/4 times :)
