Great scott! Another Monopoly game?!
It's somewhat hard to find a gaming system that does not have a Monopoly type
game available for it. Virgin Games, yet another game company that you have
probably never heard of, released this incarnation of Monopoly for Windows 3.1
in 1992. While it doesn't have the uber-fancy graphics of later incarnations of
Monopoly, it is still very fun to play.

Before you attempt to install this game, you should make sure your computer
meets these requirements (don't worry, they're not so bad :p):
Computer Type:
IBM 286 or better (or 100% compatible computer)
Operating System:
Microsoft Windows 3.1 or better (works with WinNT too)
Medium:
3.5 in floppy drive
I/O Devices:
Microsoft Mouse (or 100% compatible mouse)
Memory Required:
2 MB RAM; 4 MB RAM with sound effects
Graphics Card:
VGA
Other Requirements:
Hard drive
Optional:
Sound card (if you want sound, of course)

How to actually install the game:
Make sure the computer is turned on.
Insert Monopoly Deluxe Disk 1 into your floppy drive.
Open File Manager (or some other file navigation tool).
Navigate to to the floppy drive directory.
Open the program labeled "Setup". Follow the on-screen instructions.

How to start the game:
From Program Manager, double click the "Virgin Games" icon.
Double click the "Monopoly" icon.
The game will start. Press "Esc" to skip the credits and legal information.

******************************* A-4: Overview *********************************

Starting a new game:
To start a new game, press Ctrl - N or select "New Game" from the File Menu.
Now, select the name box and type in your desired nickname and the nicknames of
the other players. Now, select the "More" box and decide which token should be
assigned to each player. Monopoly requires at least two players (maximum of
eight), computer or human. So, if you're playing by yourself, or if you'd like
a computer opponent, make sure that the "Computer" checkbox is selected. You
can select the computer's difficulty in the box below.

Gameplay:
Click on the dice to toss them.
If you land on an unowned property, click "Buy" to purchase it, or click
"Pass" to auction it.
If you land on an owned property, you must pay a set fee to the person who owns
it.
If you pass or land on the "Go" space, you collect $200.
If you land on a Chance/Community Chest space, you must draw a Chance/Community
Chest Card and follow its instructions.
If you land on the "Go to Jail" space, you are sent to jail.
If you land on the "Free Parking" or "Just Visiting" space, you simply do
nothing until your next turn.
If you land on the "Income Tax" space, you must pay a fine of either $200 or
10% of your current funds to the bank.
If you land on the "Luxury Tax" space, you must pay a fine of $75 to the bank.
If you would like to trade properties with another player, click on the
"Trade" button to the right of the dice.
If you own all of the properties in a single color group, you can build houses
and hotels on them. To build houses and hotels, double click your game token to
view a list of your properties, select the property you wish to build for, then
press Ctrl + B. To sell buildings, press Ctrl + L.
If you are running low on funds, you can scrape up some extra cash by
mortgaging properties. To mortgage properties, double click your game token to
view a list of your properties, select the property that you wish to mortgage,
then press Ctrl + G. To unmortgage properties, press Ctrl + U.
If you run out of funds, you loose the game. If you loose to another player,
you must give him or her all of your property and funds. If you loose to the
bank, the bank will make all of your property available to the board's
remaining players.

Jail:
If and when a player is sent to jail, his or her turn ends right then and
there, and the next player takes his or her turn. A jailed player can only get
out of jail by paying a $50 fine; rolling doubles before three turns have
passed (after three turns, the player has to pay the $50 fine), or using a "Get
out of Jail free" card.

Here is a list of all of the game's options. To access them, press Ctrl + P.
"Landing on Go doubles salary"
Select this option to have a player collect $400 instead of just $200 if he or
she lands on go.

"Free Parking collects fines" (you can select an initial bonus in the box to
the
right)
Here's a popular hose rule (one that happens to annoy the hell out of me :( ).
Select this option if you want all of the fines collected in the game to go to
anyone who lands on the Free Parking space.

"Trading allowed" (Selected by default)
Select this option to enable trading of properties and cash.
***
"Have auctions" (Selected by default)
Select this option to have auctions for properties if the player does not
want/can't afford them.

"Property transactions conducted from jail" (Selected by default)
Select this option to allow a jailed player to collect rent, build
houses/hotels, make trades, etc.

"Unlimited housing"
Select this option to have unlimited houses and hotels available.

"One lap minimum before purchases"
Yet another popular house rule. Select this option if you want each player to
go around the board once before buying property.

"Time limit game"
Select this option to end the game after a set amount of time. You can set the
time limit on the box to the right.
