In the Isla Cruces chapter of the game, there is a hidden gold idol that you can find to unlock a character. After you beat the enimies on the waterfall, go inside the middle of the waterfall to the secret entrance where the gold idol is located.

As you've probably noticed, navigating your way around town can be slow, laborious and frustrating. The signs that indicate which store is which are tough to read, and the sprawling towns can take an awful long time to cross. Luckily, this is exactly what the Quick Move option in your action menu is for. Most of the major locations in each town (with the exceptions of the church and loanshark's office) can be selected from this menu if they're open at the time and you'll be warped directly into the building.
