1.0 - Introduction
Can you imagine reality if fire was never discovered? Well, in RuneScape, it's a similar
deal. While it may seem insignificant, firemaking is a great skill and can become fairly
profitable at higher levels.
Firemaking is a simple skill that goes with woodcutting, but can be used to accompany
Cooking too. It is easy to level as the experience given from each log is quite high.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.0 - Basics
To start firemaking you require a tinderbox. You obtain one of these on Tutorial Island,
but if you lost it you can buy one from any General Store for 1gp. The woodsman tutor in
Lumbridge will also supply you with a free tinderbox and bronze axe if you don't have them
in your inventory or bank.
To light a fire you can "use" the tinderbox with the logs. This will show a short
animation of you lighting a fire. If you fail to light the logs on fire, you will continue
until you are successful. When you light the fire, you will automatically walk a one
square to the west.
The other way to light a fire is to drop the logs on the ground and then use your
tinderbox on them. This way, however, is very slow and it will take longer to light your
fires.
After you light the fire, you can use it for whatever you please. Most players prefer to
use their firemaking skill to light fires for cooking; however, there are other
possibilities.
There are many different types of logs for you to light around RuneScape and each one has
different requirements and rewards. In the next section, you will find out about the
different types of logs.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.0 - Levels and Requirements

4.0 - Training Methods and Locations
The fastest way to train firemaking is to store logs in the bank, then withdraw then burn
and repeat until all your logs are gone and then withdraw, burn and repeat... You would do
this for the highest log your firemaking level allows you to burn. If you would like to
cut and burn at the same time, use the following methods:
Levels 1-15
The early beginning levels: You only need to burn three normal logs to advance to level 2.
Free Players: Cut and burn normal logs in Draynor Village forest.
Members: Cut and burn normal logs in Draynor Village forest.
Levels 16-30
Free Players: Cut and burn oak logs in Draynor Village forest.
Members: Cut and burn oak logs in Draynor Village forest.
Levels 31-50
Although free players can burn maple logs, they are generally far too expensive to worry
about buying them to burn at level 45 firemaking.
Free Players: Cut and burn willow logs by the Draynor Village bank, or south-east of
Melzars' Maze near Rimmington.
Members: Cut and burn willow Logs behind Seers' Village bank.
Levels 51-65
Free Players: Cut and burn willow logs still as maple logs would be expensive to buy. It
would also be time-saving to stockpile the Willow logs and burn them in right through
Edgeville
Members: Cut and burn maple logs north of Seers' Village and around the Legends' Guild.
Another option would to cut and burn teak/mahogany logs at Tai Bwo Wannai (remember you
will need 100 trade sticks to enter!).
Levels 66-75
Free Players: Cut and burn willow logs. They are in abundance behind Draynor Village bank.
Members: Cut and burn maple logs. There are lots behind the Seers' Village bank.
If you are going to cut your logs, then willow and maple are still the fastest, as yews
are very slow to cut. If you are going to buy them at this level, then both free players
and members should purchase yew logs to burn.
Levels 75-99
Free Players: Burning willow and yew logs is the fastest way to level in Free to Play.
It's advisable to cut the logs, as then you can also gain Woodcutting experience and you
don't lose any cash at all. Alternative way is to buy Maple logs from the Official Forums,
as maple logs can be burned in Free to Play.
Members: The best logs to cut and burn are yew and maple logs. There are many locations
for cutting them, these include: Edgeville, Seers' Village, Tree Gnome Stronghold and many
more. Fast way to get maple logs is also to use your kingdom.

5.0 - Funeral Pyres
Funeral Pyre Logs
In the Shades of Mort'ton quest, you have to burn a new kind of log, the "Pyre log."
Adding sacred oil to any log will gain you 10 firemaking exp. To burn the shade remains;
use a pyre log on the funeral pyre (located in the town), add the required shade remains
to the pyre and then light the funeral pyre. An explanation of these very useful Pyre logs
is in our Mort'ton Funeral Pyres Minigame Guide. Here are the level requirements.
Picture Log type Level to burn Sacred oil used Can be used to burn Firemaking XP per log

6.0 - Light Sources
Light Sources are required to illuminate the Lumbridge Caves , and various other locations
in RuneScape. Remember to bring a tinderbox in case the lantern burns out, as without one;
bugs will rapidly attack you, striking many 1's until you are dead.
The higher quality the lantern, the further you can go into the cave. Note that having a
naked flame (a lit candle) in your inventory with an oil lamp will cause it to explode.
The best quality lanterns are the Bullseye Lantern and the Mining Helmet. You can obtain
Mining helmets after completing The Lost Tribe quest, or from the level 11 miner-goblins
within the Lumbridge Caves .
More detailed information on how to craft lanterns is in our Crafting Guide.

7.0 - Miscellaneous Firemaking
There some alternative ways of gaining Fire Making xp.
Picture Type Level to set on fire Experience given Members?
Origami Balloon 1 20 Yes
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.1 - Firelighters
Firelighters are items that can be used to give bonus Firemaking experience when lighting
regular logs. They also change the colour of the fire itself. Firelighters range from
colours Red to Blue. To create a coloured fire, use the firelighter on a regular log. The
log will then turn to the colour of the firelighter. From there, use a tinderbox with the
coloured log to create the coloured fire.
The only way you can get Firelighters is by completing any level Treasure Trail Help.
Firelighters are indeed a common reward. The below table shows all of the information
about these firelighters.
Picture Name Level Extra Experience Fire Picture
Red Firelighter 1 50
Green Firelighter 1 50
White Firelighter 1 50
Purple Firelighter 1 50
Blue Firelighter 1 50

7.2 - Dorgeshuun Lightorbs
In the city of Dorgesh-Kaan, there is a special lighting system. There are lamps all
around the city powered by a generator. Occasionally one of the lamps will burn out and
need replacing. To replace a bulb, grab a dorgeshuun lightorbs by either thieiving one
from the chests in the city or by making one with level 87 Crafting then add a filiment
wire (found on the wire machine in the south-west part of the city) to it.
Use the complete orb with any burnt out lamps you find for a large amount of experience.
If you manage to fix 100 bulbs, you will recieve a bonus 5000 firemaking experience.
Picture Type Level to set on fire Experience given Members?
Dorgeshuun Light Orb 52 1000 Yes
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.3 - Barbarian Firemaking
Lighting logs with bows
Firstly speak to Otto and ask about barbarian firemaking skills, he will tell you to take
a bow and use it with oaken (oak) logs as a way of lighting them without a tinderbox. You
can use any type of bow except ogre or crystal bows and lighting logs in this manner gives
the same experience as lighting them with a tinderbox. After lighting your first logs,
speak to Otto again to be able to continue.
Note: The next step can be dangerous and requires the use of combat gear, anti-dragonfire
shields, anti-fire potions, super sets, teleports out and high healing food are highly
recommended inside the cave.
Funeral Pyre Ships
After lighting the logs, talk to Otto again and he will instruct you on how to burn and
create pyre ship funerals for dead barbarians. For a funeral pyre, you need any type of
log (though remember to note that the higher the level wood, the longer you receive prayer
experience from burying bones after the procedure), and the chewed bones of a dead
barbarian warrior. The remains of barbarians can be gathered in the Ancient Cavern (can be
reached by jumping into the whirlpool in the lake); fight the more difficult creatures in
the cavern and they will either drop mangled or chewed bones, however, the mangled bones
don't reward you when burnt and instead cause a Ferocious/Enraged/Angry/Berserk Barbarian
Spirit (level-166) to attack. Be careful in the cave to avoid being attacked by the
monsters as you gather bones. You can leave the cave by the logs at the edge of the
underground river.
Once you have logs, the chewed bones, and a bow or tinderbox, you can build a pyre at the
edge of the lake north of Otto using a "Pyre-site." The burning of the remains will give
you Firemaking experience, and a bonus depending on the logs you used, to the experience
gained when burying bones. When you burn the remains you will be given a reward for
setting the hero's spirit free, which can even be the Dragon full helmet! Speak to Otto
once more to complete your training.
