--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.0 - Introduction
In RuneScape, slayer is a skill where you must prove yourself against many difficult
monsters. Unlike other skills in RuneScape where the training is repetitive, slayer is a
very diverse skill. Slayer awards experience based on the completion of certain tasks. If
you want to explore the map whilst experiencing the thrills of combat, slaying is for you.

Another great reason to explore the slaying skill is slayer masters, who advise you on how
to kill certain monsters. This information may help you in the future when entering the
mysterious world of slaying.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.0 - The Basics of Slaying
2.1 - The Process
To begin slaying you must talk to one of the slayer masters. Upon expressing interest in
slaying, the slayer master will give you a slayer assignment. The slayer assignment will
be to kill a certain number of a certain type of monster. Depending on the slayer master,
your assignment could range from 12 birds to 190 dragons.

To help you on this assignment, the slayer master has also provided you with an "Enchanted
Gem." If you "Rub" the gem, you will be able to communicate with one of the slayer
masters. They will tell you how many more monsters you have to kill, as well as the best
techniques to use when fighting the monster. It is recommended that you always bring your
gem along due to the information it provides. If you lose this gem, you can buy another
one for 1gp from any slayer master.

When you are done with your assignment, go back and talk to the slayer master for another
one.

If you get a higher-level assignment that you are unhappy with, you can get a new,
lower-level one from the Burthorpe slayer master, Turael. He only changes assignments
offered by stronger slayer masters.

If you want a little temporary slayer boost, you can eat a Wild Pie to raise it 5 levels
for the time being.

2.2 - Slayer Masters
Around the RuneScape world, there are a number of slayer masters, which are all
represented by the on the minimap. The tables below will tell you where they are located
and what the difficulties of their assignments are. The list of monsters beside each
master is the list of possible assignments the slayer master can give you.

Please note that you must have level 50 slayer and 100+ combat in order to use Duradel as
your slayer master.

Slayer masters assign as few as 10 or as many as 199 monsters. The maximum number
increases as you use higher level slayer masters. However, the minimum number does not
increase, so it is possible to get 12 dark beasts from Duradel, or 12 birds from Turael
(lowest slayer master).

4.0 - Slayer Monsters
When you reach certain levels, you will be able to fight different slayer monsters. Most
of these monsters can be found in the Slayer Tower, north-west of Canifis, or in the
Slayer Dungeon, far east of Rellekka. These monsters can be very rewarding; however, you
must remember to bring your slayer equipment along in order to kill them. Note that
killing slayer monsters does not give any slayer XP. The ability to fight these monsters
at certain levels, is just a reward. In the table below, please realize that the level
given is the slayer level required to kill them, not the monster's combat level.

4.1 - Slayer Monsters in-depth

Terror Dog

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 100, 110
Hitpoints: 83, 88
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: Melee

Top Drops: Granite Helmet and Clue scrolls (level 3).
Slayer Information: No Slayer item required. Level 40 Slayer required.
Training Effectiveness: Great with Guthans, but not bad with regular rune armour either.

Infernal Mage

Race: Human
Combat Level: 66, 68
Hitpoints: 60
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: Magic

Top Drops: Black/red mystic hat, Black/red mystic boots and Lava battle staff.
Slayer Information: No Slayer item required. Level 45 Slayer required.
Training Effectiveness: Not too bad. They attack with fire blast, so wear armour that
defends against magical attacks, such as dragonhide, Splitbark, mystic or Ahrim's robes.

Bloodvelds

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 76
Hitpoints: 120
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: Magic based Melee

Top Drops: Half of a key, Shield left half, Dragon Spear, Black boots and Rune medium
helmet.
Slayer Information: No Slayer item required. Level 50 Slayer required.
Training Effectiveness: Bloodvelds are great for training! They have low defense, attack,
and strength, yet they have very high hit points. When training here, bring armour that
defends against magic, as they too are magical beasts. Any form of Dragonhide, Splitbark,
Karil armour or mystic armour will suffice.

Jellies

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 78
Hitpoints: 75
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: Magic based Melee

Top Drops: Clue scroll (level 3), Mithril boots, Rune full helm, Half of a key, and Shield
left half.
Slayer Information: No Slayer item required. Level 52 Slayer required.
Training Effectiveness: Jellies often deal 2 to 5 damage. That said; you will run out of
food fast. Bring magical defense armour (Dragonhide, Splitbark, Karil armour or mystic
armour).

Turoths

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 83, 85, 87, 89
Hitpoints: 74, 77, 80, 81
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: Melee based

Top Drops: Half of a key, Clue scroll (level 3), White/yellow mystic robe bottom (from the
level 83, 87 and 89's), Dragon spear, Rune dagger, and Shield left half.
Slayer Information: Level 55 Slayer required. Turoths can only be hurt with Melee using a
Leaf-Bladed Spear; can only be hurt with Magic with the Magic dart spell, using the
Slayer's Staff; and can only be hurt with Ranged attacks, using the broad arrows, and a
regular bow.
Training Effectiveness: These are not very for good training as they have very high attack
and strength, hitting up to 11 regularly.

Mutated Zygomite

Race: Fungi
Combat Level: 74
Hitpoints: 53
Nature: Non Aggressive
Attack Style: Magical melee

Top Drops: Strawberry seed (4), noted super compost, nature runes (2), Rune full helmet
Slayer Information: Level 57 slayer is required to kill this form of mutated mold. To kill
them, you must use some Fungicide Spray on them, like with Rockslugs. Fungicide spray, and
refills can be bought from any slayer store.
Training Effectiveness: Not very good training, as it hits high, often, and you have to
kill it off using the fungicide spray. The drops aren't very good.

Cave Horror

Race: Beast
Combat Level: 80
Hitpoints: 55
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: Magical melee

Top Drops: Black mask, Level 3 clue, various herb seeds, Sweetcorn seeds, Cactus seeds,
Mahogany logs, noted Teak logs, Nature runes, Limpwurt roots
Slayer Information: Level 58 slayer is required to kill these beasts. To kill them, you
will need a Witchwood icon as it helps protect you from their powerful attacks. You will
also need a light source to be in the caves.
Training Effectiveness: Cave Horrors are not very good for long-term training as they hit
fairly high at frequent intervals. They're also spread fairly far apart, making it
difficult to train effectively.

Aberrant Specters

Race: Undead
Combat Level: 96
Hitpoints: 95
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: Magic

Top Drops: Half of a key, Lava battlestaff, Rune kite, Rune large helmet, Black/red robe
bottom, many high-level herbs, Clue scroll (level 3), and Shield left half.
Slayer Information: Level 60 Slayer required. A nose peg is also required.
Training Effectiveness: Medium training. Aberrant specters are quite strong, and often hit
high. Prayer potions are not required, but are helpful if you intend to protect. Bring
along black dragonhide armour as it has a magic attack style.

Dust Devil

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 93
Hitpoints: 105
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: Magic and Melee

Top Drops: Half of a key, Earth battlestaff, Rune arrows, Red dragonhide vambraces, Shield
left half and Dragon chainbody.
Slayer Information: Level 65 Slayer required. A facemask is also required. You must have a
slayer level of 65 and you must wear a facemask.
Training Effectiveness: Dust Devils are decent training for both melee and ranged, but
they can hit quite often. They do drop ugthanki kebabs (heal 19hp) though.

Kurask

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 106
Hitpoints: 97
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: -

Top Drops: White & gold mystic robe top, Clue scroll (Level 3), Dragon spear, Kurask head,
adamant platebody.
Slayer Information: Level 70 Slayer required. Kurasks can only be hurt with Melee with a
Leaf-Bladed Spear; can only be hurt with Magic with the Magic dart spell, using the
Slayer's Staff; and can only be hurt with Ranged attacks, using the broad arrows, and a
regular bow.
Training Effectiveness: Most effective way to kill them is with Ranged using Broad arrows
and a safe spot.

Skeletal Wyvern

Race: Skeleton
Combat Level: 140
Hitpoints: 214
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: -

Top Drops: Granite legs, Clue scroll (level-3), Death runes (7), Shield left half, Dragon
medium helmet, Dragon spear, Dragon Dagger(p+) Wyvern bones, Draconic Visage.
Slayer Information: Level 72 slayer is required to kill the skeletal wyvern. You must have
a elemental shield equipped while fighting these to reflect their powers. If you fail to
wear a elemental shield, your stats will be greatly reduced.
Training Effectiveness: -

Gargoyles

Race: Animated
Combat Level: 111
Hitpoints: 105
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: Melee

Top Drops: Adamant boots, Black/red mystic robe top, and Granite maul.
Slayer Information: Level 75 Slayer required. You must use a rock hammer to kill the
gargoyle.
Training Effectiveness: Gargoyles are pretty decent for training with melee, ranged or
either magic. They can hit you often, so food like sharks and monkfish are recommended,
Guthan is very effective too.

Nechryael

Race: Undead
Combat Level: 115
Hitpoints: 105
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: -

Top Drops: Rune two hander, Rune longsword, Rune battleaxe, Rune dagger, Dragon spear,
Rune boots, Rune large helmet, Rune kiteshield, Rune squareshield, Rune platebody, Dragon
medium helmet, Cut Dragonstone, Half of a key, Shield left half and Clue (Level 3)
Slayer Information: You must have a slayer level of 80.
Training Effectiveness: Nechryaels give a profitable drops and also fast experience. You
can either slay them with melee, ranged or magic. There is a safe spot in the area. While
killing them, they summon Death spawns (level-45) which can attack you, despite the fact
there isn't a sign of multikilling area. But don't worry, you can still attack Nechryaels,
while they're attacking you.

Abyssal Demon

Race: Demon
Combat Level: 124
Hitpoints: 150
Nature: Non-Aggressive
Attack Style: Melee

Top Drops: Abyssal Whip, Abyssal demon head, Dragon Spear, Rune battleaxe, Rune two
hander, Rune spear, Dragon medium helmet, Rune chainbody, Rune kite, Rune medium helmet,
Rune square shield, Cut Dragonstone, Shield left half, Half of a key and Rune Bar.
Slayer Information: Level 85 Slayer required.
Training Effectiveness: These will teleport you around the Abyssal Demon room. They are
good training for higher level players due to their great drops. Use the ALR fairy ring
code to teleport to another abyssal area, which is closer to a bank.

Dark Beast

Race: Animal
Combat Level: 182
Hitpoints: 220
Nature: Aggressive
Attack Style: Magic or melee

Top Drops: Rune 2h, Rune battleaxe, Dragon spear, Rune chainbody, Rune full helm, Rune sq
shield, Dragon med helm, Rune arrows (42), Runite bar, Half of a key, cut Dragonstone,
Death talisman, Shield left half, Dark Bow
Slayer Information: Level 90 slayer is required to kill the Dark Beast. No slayer
equipment is necessary.
Training Effectiveness: Dark beasts hit frequently, but using prayer is making the
training effective. The drops are also decent.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5.0 - Basics of Training
There is no easy way to train slayer like there is in other skills (unless you can afford
a cannon). No matter what you do, you are always going to have to fight a large number of
monsters.

The Shilo Slayer master gives out tasks of up to 199 monsters per task; most of the tasks
are pretty hard to finish at low levels, so high combat level and good melee stats are
recommended. If you are an average to high-level player, try to use the Canifis, Edgeville
and Zanaris slayer masters.

Cave Horrors have recently found their way into Mos Le'harmless, bringing with them a
Black mask. To gain access to the Mos Le'harmless Dungeon, you must have completed Rum
Deal and Cabin Fever - you will also need a lantern to guide yourself through the dark
caves. This mask gives a +15% boost to your attack and strength levels, however, only when
fighting the monsters you have been assigned to as a Slayer task. The number at the end of
the name represents the number of times a spell will shoot from the mask and lower any of
your opponents' defense by 10%. When the number reaches 0, the mask will no longer shoot
spells, but will retain its strength and attack-boosting abilities. Make sure that you
wear a Witchwood icon, else you will be dealt 9 damage every few seconds.

If you're a skiller wanting to train slayer, it's possible but difficult. You will need
many rings of recoil. Turn off auto-retaliate, bring lots of food, and do Burthorpe tasks.
This way, the monsters will be lower-leveled and you won't receive any combat experience.
Keep in mind that this is tedious, but besides experience lamps, it's the only way to
train Slayer on a skiller.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6.0 - The Slayer Tower
The Tower is located just north-west of Canifis. To access it, you need to have completed
the Priest in Peril quest. The tower is home to some high-level Slayer monsters including
the Abyssal demon, which drops the powerful Abyssal Whip. Located in the tower are two
Agility shortcuts. The medium spiked chain climb requires 61 Agility, and the advanced
spiked chain climb requires level 71 Agility.

Some of the Slayer creatures in the tower are aggressive, and can be dangerous if you come
unprepared. See our Slayer equipment guide for the items you need to bring to defend
yourself against the creatures.

  Aberrant specter (Level 96)
 Abyssal demon (Level 124)
 Banshee (Level 23)
 Bloodveld (Level 76)
 Crawling hand (Levels 8; 12)
 Gargoyle (Level 111)
 Infernal Mage (Level 66)
 Nechryael (Level 115)

7.0 - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the Black Mask and Salve amulet work together?
A: No, only one of them works at any time.

Q: In a multi-combat zone, who will get the slayer experience when two people are fighting
a monster?
A: The total amount of xp is equal to the hitpoints of the monster. That amount will be
split given the following criteria: Half for the one that made the most damage, Half for
the one that made the hit that killed the monster.

Q: Does slaying monsters give you normal combat experience?
A: Yes.

Q: Will I have to complete a quest to finish an assignment?
A: No, A slayer master will not assign monsters that require you to have to complete a
quest to attack. For example, you would not have to kill elves if you have not done the
Regicide quest.

Q: Does Killing the Slayer monsters give me slaying experience?
A: Only if you are assigned to kill them by a Slayer master.

Q: I heard the whip drop rate is declining and whips are now much harder to get. Is it
worth the effort to kill Abyssal demons for whips?
A: Prices are steadily declining even though it's rumored that whip drops are constantly
becoming rare. There are plenty of other ways to make quicker money.
