Story Introduction -------------------------------------------------------------- In the twilight years of the Warring States Era, it was a turbulent world and there seemed to be endless wars. The six states that are located in the east are constantly being assaulted by the powerful Qin, and the once-peaceful and idyllic East Baiyue is not an exception. The King of Qin, Ying Zheng, appoints envoys to meet Lan Xiong, the Chieftain of the East Baiyue, in an attempt to subdue the clan. It was said in the ancient times that the wars between Chi You and the Yellow Emperor had never stopped, and the human race would forever be entangled in imbroglios with the gods. The adventures of these protagonists has just begun in this world mingled with wars, legends, and deep kinships... -------------------------------------------------------------- III. System Requirements -------------------------------------------------------------- Minimum reqiurements Pentium II 300Mhz or Equivalent 128MB RAM 1.6 GB Disk Space (Minimum Installation) Compatible 800*600 16bit Video Card with 4MB RAM, W/ 3D Hardware Acceleration Sound Blaster Compatible Sound Card Keyboard/Mouse/4x CD-ROM Windows 9x/me/2000/XP DirectX 8.0 Recommended requirements Pentium III 500Mhz or Equivalent 256MB RAM 2 GB Disk Space Compatible 800*600 16bit Video Card with 16MB RAM, W/ 3D Hardware Acceleration Sound Blaster Compatible Sound Card Keyboard/Mouse/4x CD-ROM Windows 9x/me/2000/XP DirectX 8.0 In my experience with the game, it is recommended that you have a LOT of RAM. Although it will run on a 128MB system, the stopping between new graphics is almost unberable, worse the game plays like an MMORPG, in which the actual gameplay still proceeds even though the system is loading new graphics, which could case your characters to die becauseyou need to heal them then the game loads up. After the loading you see them dead. Pretty annoying. -------------------------------------------------------------- IV. Character Information -------------------------------------------------------------- IV a. Lan Wei Sex: Female Age: 18 Place of birth: Rose Cloud Village Father: Lan Xiong Mother: Hong Wei Background Lan Wei grew up in the remote Rose Cloud Village. Like other clan members, she was born to be simple and kind. Lan Wei was cleverer than other children of her age and she mastered new knowledge very quickly. Because of this, she didn't like to spend much time and energy to practice. She always loafed around and acted like a child. Her father was very strict with her, but she could always seem to escape punishment. People always spoiled her and this made her more unruly and difficult to control. She always made quick decisions without full consideration and often played practical jokes. Each time when she learned magic, she would experiment with it on her friend, Ah Wa. Her father always scolded her about this. When she was young, she was always told how bad the people of the Central Plains were. Her mother died very early because of the invasion of the Qin troops. But she never saw the people of the Central Plains for herself. So she didn't hate the people of the Central Plains as much as her fellow clan members did. Features Lan Wei is a Baiyue witch. In battle, she casts ancient spells, uses ancient dances and activates Five-element magic. Lan Wei excels in Wood and Fire magic and curses. Fire magic has powerful attack and Wood magic brings about some disadvantageous effects to enemies such as Slow Down and Poisoning besides causing damage. Curses can make a lot of enemies lose fighting ability instantly. Personality Kind, reliable, smart and unruly. -------------------------------------------------------------- IV b. Yan Hong Sex: Male Age: 24 Place of birth: West Baiyue Father: Yan Bo Mother: Ah Yan Yan Hong's father, Yan Bo, was the chief of the West Baiyue. When the Qin army invaded, Yan Bo commanded his fellow people and fought a desperate battle with the invaders. Finally, he died and his race was annihilated. Yan Peng, who was regarded as the traitor of West Baiyue, rescued his nephew Yan Hong at that critical moment and later taught him the skill of summoning beasts. Yan Hong then wandered from place to place accompanying his uncle. When the Qin army was surrounding Lan Xiong, Yan Bo and Yan Hong helped him. Afterwards, Yan Peng left his nephew to Lan Xiong's care. Lan Xiong then regarded Yan Hong as his pupil and thus Yan Hong stayed and lived in Rosy-Cloud Village. Yan Hong was as kind as his fellow people. His experience made him love his relatives and race very much and hate the Qin people with passion. His wandering experience during his childhood turned Yan Hong into a reticent and arrogant man. The suffering made him stubborn and persevering. Yan Hong should have been a sensitive person. He was warm-hearted just like Lan Wei, but he was afraid of being hurt again. So he always shied away from communicating with others. Only Lan Wei could understand him and his heart would be open only for Lan Wei. Features Yan Hong is a sacrifice wizard. A wizard is a bridge linked with the gods. They can make use of the power of the gods to bestow spiritual power upon common people. This kind of power can not only help others, but also summon ancient monsters. A wizard has low attack power, but his supplementary and healing magic play an indispensable role in a combat party. Besides, he can summon all kinds of monsters to help him fight. Personality Persevering, reticent, intelligent, arrogant and radical. -------------------------------------------------------------- IV c. Liang Hu Sex: Male Age: 26 Place of birth: Beastman Village Liang Hu was relatively weak and small in build as compared to other beastman children. In the race of Beastman that glorified strength, he was always belittled by his clansmen. Liang Hu was emulous since he was a child. Once he made a bet with others and they agreed that the loser would jump from a cliff. After he realized he had lost the bet, he really jumped from the cliff. Thanks to Beastman's incredible endurance and vitality, he survived and wandered in the area of the Central Plains. He was greatly discriminated against there because of his unusual appearance. When he went to Rosy-Cloud Village, the local people didn't reject him just because of his weird appearance. Lan Wei even regarded him as her blood brother. So he stayed and lived on in Rosy-Cloud Village. He always protected Lan Wei as if she were his blood sister. Although he was a man of few words, the few words he did speak could clearly demonstrate his concern for Lan Wei. Features Beastman soldiers are very strong. Although they act slowly, the damage power is incredible. Throwing Stones and Explosion are medium-range attack skills and some of their skills can cause damage to a group of enemies. Their beast nature sometimes results in them becoming hysterical. If he becomes hysterical Liang Hu will become extremely powerful. Since he was born with high HP and constitution, Liang Hu always plays the role of shield in combat. He draws the attention of enemies so that his party members can have time to cast powerful spells. Personality Loyal, emulous, honest, reticent and insightful. -------------------------------------------------------------- IV d. Cai Xin Sex: Female Age: 22 Place of birth: Giant-Monster Village Father: Huan Qi Mother: Cai Lian Background Cai Xin's father was previously a common civilian of the Qin state. He was wounded by accident during a battle and was saved by Cai Lian. Later they fell in love with each other and got married. The fellow villagers opposed this marriage and the couple was separated. Her father wasn't able to contact her after the separation and her mother died of disease a few years later. Cai Xin grew up in an environment of prejudice and distrust. Cai Xin lived in Giant-Monster Village that was very near to the border of the Central Plains. The day before Lan Wei came to her village, the Qin army had begun attacking it. Cai Xin and Lan Wei joined forces to defeat the Qin army. Afterwards, she decided to join Lan Wei's party and hoped to find out where her father was. Her kindness was derived from her mother and Aunt Ju. She didn't agree with the prejudiced attitude of Yan Hong and Lan Wei towards the people of the Central Plains. But she didn't argue this issue directly with them. She just persuaded them with patient reasoning and logic to help them understand the basic goodness of human nature. Features Cai Xin is an assassin. She is greatly concerned about her weapons and usually uses two blades. She can combine different kinds of attack skills to create various "new" skills. This way she can easily achieve the maximum power of her weapons. Because of her small size, Cai Xin can only use some light and short blades. But this doesn't reduce her attack. With dexterous action, she can cause deadly damage to her enemies from any angle. Personality Easygoing and unbiased. -------------------------------------------------------------- IV e. Gai Nie Sex: Male Age: 35 Place: Yuci Background Gai Nie led a reclusive life in Yuci. He had followed Li Mu, a Great General of the Zhao State, to fight against the Qin army. The Qin army was superior at the time, but they couldn't defeat Zhao easily because of Li Mu. Gai Nie risked his life to fight together with Li Mu. To everyone's surprise, the King of Zhao believed wild rumors about Li Mu's loyalty and had him killed. As a result, Zhao was soon annihilated by Qin. The death of Li Mu made Gai Nie greatly depressed. So he escaped to Yuci with his wife. Before long, he received a letter from Jing Ke inviting him to join him in a plot to assassinate the King of Qin, Ying Zheng. He hesitated because his wife was pregnant at the time. His wife then persuaded him to kill the ruthless King and he finally decided to join Jing Ke in the assassination plot. Suddenly, a troop of Qin soldiers found their place and killed his wife. At the critical moment, Lan Wei and her companions passed by and saved him. Thanks to the encouragement of Lan Wei and her companions, Gai Nie then joined them to search for the Empyrean Stones. Features Gai Nie is a Chinese paladin. Since he has been practising swordsmanship for a long time, his balanced build and straight swords display a harmonious sense of masculine power. Paladins make good use of the energy cycle and activate their own potential power. This way they can achieve both a high level of attack and defense. During the Warring States period, paladins are influenced by Mohist philosophy so that they emphasize teamwork as well as individual improvement. Therefore, Gai Nie knew many supplementary skills. Personality Dispassionate, experienced, knowledgeable and full of forethought. -------------------------------------------------------------- V. Gameplay Information -------------------------------------------------------------- This section is to be updated in the next version of this FAQ. -------------------------------------------------------------- VI. Chapter 1 Walkthrough -------------------------------------------------------------- The story begins at the home of the wizard Chi Huan, Cloud Rose Village. Having failed to meet Lan Xiong, the Qin envoys are pressuring Chi Huan to submit to them. For his part Chi Huan rebuffs them with the excuse that his chieftain, Lan Xiong, is absent. At this time, Lan Wei returns home. The Qin generals think that Lan Wei is merely a weak little girl but are wary of Liang Hu who intervenes to protect Lan Wei. They decide to take their leave. "Must our peace always be so short-lived? It seems war is inevitable" , says Chi Huan, his face laden with worry. A newborn calf fears not the tiger. Lan Wei wants to fight the Qin. Chi Huan calms her and suggests she go back to have a rest since it is dark outside. Lan Wei encounters Yin Cheng as she steps out of the door. Yin Cheng says that he has come just to let her know he is setting off for the Central Plains. Lan Wei asks him to bring her back some nice things from the Central Plains. Before going to bed, Lan Wei can idle about since during this period there are no primary tasks. Side Quest 1: Lan Wei meets Ah Dan at the gate of the tavern. He is busy looking for the money from Chi Huan for the tiger-bone wine. He lost it when catching the bugs. Then Lan Wei promises him that she will help get the tiger-bone wine from the innkeeper. Side Quest 2: Lan Wei tells the innkeeper about Ah Dan losing the money and afterwards decides to head for Luoxia Valley to find some pieces of snake meat for the tiger-bone wine. After killing the snakes in Luoxia Valley Lan Wei will get the meat randomly. Giving the meat to the innkeeper she gets the tiger-bone wine in return. If she gives the meat to Ah Dan she will get 100 Experience points. In addition, snake meat can help enrich the blood, so gamers had better hunt more for storage, in preparation for later battles. Side Quest 3: Speaking to Brother Huo, Lan Wei learns about the Monkey wine. Then she goes to Luoxia Valley, in the middle of which there is an escarpment, and there are 3 monkeys there. Of the 3 choices, gamers should choose the option saying "Pick up some stones and throw them at the monkeys.", then the monkeys will return the attack, as you did, using Monkey fruits. In this way Lan Wei gets 4 Monkey fruits (the first one is for Xiao Miao at the gate of the tavern). Lan Wei takes the fruit to Chef Yao at the tavern, who later promises Lan Wei some Monkey wine but Lan Wei is to get the wine the next day). If you choose the other options even once, you will not be able to complete this side quest. Side Quest 4: Having got the Monkey fruit, talk to Xiao Miao at the gate of the tavern before entering. He will ask Lan Wei for a Monkey fruit. Give him one and he will tell you that he learnt from Ah Wa something about the tree cavity in the Anthropophagous Jungle. (Please note here that once you talk to Chef Yao, all the Monkey fruit will be handed to him, consequently this plot will not occur). The tree cavity is at the top right of the Anthropophagous Jungle, and from the cavity some Fragrant Fruit can be found (this fruit can be used in the Chengdu branch task) . Side Quest 5: Idling about in Cloud Rose Village, Lan Wei encounters a young lad, who looks like he is from the Central Plains, who, after enquiry, she discovers is called Wu Xiong. He is here to deliver Flower Wine to Old Man Qiu. Lan Wei had long been craving the treasures of Old Man Qiu, so she agrees to deliver the wine for Wu Xiong. Old Man Qiu now is not at home, so this quest can only be finished at chapter 2. Side Quest 6: In the house of Bai Yue, Lan Wei's close friend, Granny Yue, requests Lan Wei to find some pine wood for her. She can look for the wood in the suburbs if there isn't any downtown. Click on the trees and the wood will drop from them randomly. You can find it if you try. Then hand the wood to Granny Yue. Side Quest 7: Lan Wei encounters Ah Sheng, the hunter who once borrowed from Lan Wei the old armlet of Lan Xiong (the Chieftain), to use while hunting. Go to the bedchamber of Lan Xiong, find the armlet and hand it to Ah Sheng, but please remember to get it back the next day. Side Quest 8: Lan Wei speaks to Uncle He. He asks her to get him some snakeskin to cover his crabstick. Go and get him some snakeskin from Luoxia Valley. Side Quest 9: Lan Wei speaks to Tie Sheng in Luoxia Valley, learning the snakes are very dangerous and it is better to be well prepared. There is some antidote to snakebites and flower poison in the box in Chi Huan's room. Give the antidote for snakebites to Tie Sheng and he will tell Lan Wei something about the wild animals. Having helped so many people one after another, Lan Wei feels quite tired now and goes back to her room for a rest. ( Please note that once Lan Wei goes back for a rest, the first day is finished, and the 9 branch tasks above will be missed if not completed yet. There is not to be any chance of completing them again. It will be the same for the next day.) During the night, Lan Xiong who has just returned goes to Chi Huan's, telling him that Ying Zheng (the King of Qin) dispatched envoys to force a capitulation. Lan Xiong also expresses the determination that East Baiyue will struggle to the last man even if Qin can some day unify the Central Plains. He can recollect clearly the happenings of 15 years ago... Hong Wei, Lan Xiong's wife, advises him to take an early rest, for he's been tired out since West Baiyue was invaded by Qin. Their little daughter is 3 years old, and Lan Xiong really needs to give her a name. Suddenly a villager rushes in and reports that a Qin force is attacking and Lan Ying ( Lan Xiong's son) is fighting back alone. The couple immediately set off to support their son. Getting out of the village from the right side, they meet Chi Huan. Now gamers can control these 3 characters, who are of very high levels ( level 20) , so the Qin soldiers are not a match for them at all. Gamers can take this chance to experience some superior magic and have an idea of how different roles upgrade their levels according to their character classes. By the side of the village, Lan Ying is being viciously attacked by the Qin soldiers and is seriously injured. After warning his parents off quickly, Lan Ying destroys part of the Qin force through magic but at the expense of losing his own life. Distraught at the loss of their son, the couple struggle desperately, however, Hong Wei is killed in the fierce battle. At this moment of truth, the Summon Fiend appears from the rear of the Qin force, annihilating all of them. It turns out to be Yan Peng who extended this timely help. He is the younger brother of Yan Bo, the Chieftain of West Baiyue. Lan Xiong is astonished to see him for he thought Yan Peng had already been killed! But he later learns everything from Yan Peng. Yan Peng once offended the Clan Rules and was going to be sentenced to death, but his brother, the Chieftain of West Baiyue, didn't have the heart to kill him, so he secretly set Yan Peng free. From then on, Yan Peng led a wandering life. One day he received news that the Qin were attacking West Baiyue. He decided to set out and help, but at last, however hard he tried, Yan Peng was only able to rescue his nephew, Yan Hong. Unwilling to have Yan Hong lead a life of vagrancy and suffering with him, Yan Peng entrusted the child to Lan Xiong. Lan Xiong vowed revenge on their persecutors, and named his daughter Lan Wei, after his wife, Hong Wei. Stepping into the past can only give you agony. Chi Huan tries to take Lan Xiong's mind away from the tragic memory and advises him to entrust some of the affairs of the clan to Lan Wei, as it will be good experience for her. Lan Xiong agrees. -------------------------------------------------------------- VII. Chapter 2 Walkthrough -------------------------------------------------------------- A new day breaks. Lan Wei gets up from her bed. She decides to go and practice some new magic with Ah Wa. Knowing this, Ah Wa is intending to escape, because he clearly understands the risks of being Lan Wei's trial horse. Unfortunately he is stricken by Lan Wei's magic, lying flat on the ground. At first Lan Wei thinks he is just pretending, but later she realizes she is wrong. Yes, she used the wrong magic. Then Lan Wei hurries to Chi Huan's for help. At Chi Huan's home she meets her father. "I am going to be blamed", she says to herself. However, totally to her surprise, her father doesn't reproach her at all, only telling her to save Ah Wa first. Chi Huan tells Lan Wei to kill the Great Snake in the cavern of Luoxia Valley, and the gallbladder of the snake will be just the remedy for Ah Wa's injury. Just stepping out of the door, Lan Wei meets Liang Hu, who has just carried Ah Wa home. On Lan Wei's request, Liang Hu goes to Luoxia Valley with her. They find a cavern inside the valley. The Great Snake is in there. Luckily it is not as tricky as expected and it moves very slowly, so it is easily killed. At the same time as Lan Wei and Liang Hu get the snake gallbladder, Yan Hong goes back to Cloud Rose Village, seeming to carry the burdens of the world on his shoulders he doesn't even notice the greetings from the villagers. He goes straight to Lan Xiong. Yan Hong tells Lan Xiong that things have been proceeding smoothly. Lan Xiong advises him to have an early rest for the sacrificial rites for the God of War would take place the next day. Lan Wei goes back to the village, handing the snake gallbladder to Chi Huan. Ah Wa is saved. Then Lan Wei goes home to see her father. Lan Xiong doesn't blame her at all, instead, he tells Lan Wei to assist him in the general affairs of the clan from now on. He also asks Lan Wei to rest earlier for there is a memorial ceremony for the God of War the next day. For centuries, the Baiyue people had been supporting Chi You , the God of War, in his battle with the Yellow Emperor, so in their minds Chi You was an idol. But in the end Chi You was defeated by the Yellow Emperor, so the Baiyue people had to move back to the south. Nobody had met Chi You after his defeat. But the Qin had long been coveting the land of Baiyue, so wars were inevitable. Side Quest 1: Speak to Xiao Miao in the village and he will ask you for some candy. Give him some. Side Quest 2: Find Ah Sheng and get back the armet you lent him yesterday. Side Quest 3: Go to Old Man Qiu's home and give him the flower wine. You will be awarded equipment or experience points. The awards are different according to your different choices in the talk. Side Quest 4: Find Chef Yao in the tavern and get the Monkey wine from him. (This side quest is not available if you didn't finish the side quest 3 from Chapter 1.) Side Quest 5: Find Uncle He, and you will see his crabstick is broken. There have been some arguments between Craftsman Da and him, so Uncle He feels embarrassed to reach out to him for help. Lan Wei agrees to help ask Craftsman Da for help and take the initiative to be the conciliator. Branch 6: Go to Bai Yue's home and you will meet Granny Yue. She will tell you Bai Yue is not in. She's been out in the mountains searching for white camellia. Thinking Bai Yue doesn't know anything about magic so it would be risky for her if she meets any danger, Lan Wei decides to go and look for her. After having a word with Ah Dan at the gate, she knows Bai Yue is near a very old tree in the middle of the Mantrap Wood . Having successfully helped out Bai Yue who has been caught by the anthropophagous flower, Lan Wei sends her back to Cloud Rose Village. On the way they meet Yan Hong, who is also coming to help. Originally Lan Wei was thinking it was for Yan Hong that Baiyue had risked her life to pick the white camellia alone in the wilderness. She felt unhappy about that. But later Lan Wei found out it was for her parents who had already passed away. Branch 7: In Mantrap Wood Lan Wei meets Tian Sheng. He tells Lan Wei to be careful for the flower is quite poisonous. Handing the antidote for the flower poison in Chi Huan's room to Tie Sheng, Lan Wei learns something from him about the wild monsters. Having been so engrossed in various tasks, Lan Wei was really tired and today she gets up very late. She runs to the temple hurriedly and stands on the right side of Chi Huan. The sacrificial ceremony begins. While every villager is praying reverently, suddenly some weird green fire appears on the Chieftain, Lan Xiong, after which, he falls to the ground, dead. After Lan Xiong's death, Chi Huan tries to persuade Lan Wei to succeed her father in the position of Chieftain in order that the whole clan of Baiyue could be united in the war against the powerful Qin, but Lan Wei refuses. She feels she is not yet eligible for that position. At the graveyard, Lan Wei is too distraught over her father's sudden death and faints. Luckily she is found by Yan Hong and carried back home. Then she falls very seriously ill. Seven days later she comes to her father's tomb again to sacrifice offerings. There she meets Yan Hong. Yan Hong says when he was a small boy, he heard that if the five pieces of the Empyrean Stone could be pieced together the complete stone could resurrect the dead, and he was firmly convinced of this. Hearing this, Lan Wei is so glad and hopeful that she can find the five pieces of the Empyrean Stone. Uncle Chi Huan is the most knowledgeable man inside the clan so Lan Wei wants to hear what he thinks. Whether Chi Huan doesn't know anything about the Empyrean Stones at all or he is just keeping it from her intentionally, Lan Wei doesn't know. However, Uncle Chi Huan simply tells her not to be distracted by anything and make good preparations to be the new chieftain. Lan Wei certainly won't give up. She leaves to ask Yin Cheng about the Empyrean Stones. Yin Cheng also believes that the Empyrean Stones exist, saying years ago when West Baiyue was invaded by the Qin, Yan Bo, the Chieftain, had one of his soldiers send one of the Empyrean Stones to Lan Xiong for safe keeping. Then he advises Lan Wei to check her father's belongings. Lan Wei finds a key from the bookshelf in her father's bedchamber. With the key she opens the case near the shelf. There is a small joss inside the case, which is so similar to the one in the sacrificial hall. To find it out, she runs to the sacrificial hall, puts the small joss into the hole on the right side of the statue of the God of War and then she finds a piece of stone drop from the credence. Lan Wei, together with some other people in the clan find that piece of stone is quite similar to the trace on the stone gate of the Spider Cave, which was in the northwest of the Mantrap Wood . So together with Liang Hu, Lan Wei goes to the cave. They successfully open the stone gate and get the first piece of the Empyrean Stone. Liang Hu is very surprised to see the stone, saying he had once seen a similar stone in his hometown in the Central Plains when he was a boy. So Lan Wei decides to try her luck in Liang Hu's hometown. Please take care because two very poisonous spiders will appear in the cave when you are completing this task. Back in Cloud Rose Village, Lan Wei hears that her beloved uncle, Chi Huan, has died. He was bitten by poisonous bugs. Ah Dan used to catch bugs for Chi Huan, and he says this kind of bug actually is very difficult to find, so there must have been somebody who murdered Chi Huan. Linking this to Ying Zheng's dispatching envoys to induce a capitulation, and the mysterious death of Lan Xiong, everyone feels suspicious. Lan Wei is firmly determined to find the other four pieces of the Empyrean Stone for her beloved father, and uncle Chi Huan. Out of Cloud Rose Village all the way to the north it is Heaven's Summit, and forward it is Ancient Path. When Lan Wei asked Liang Hu why he had chosen to come to Baiyue, scenes of betting with his friend when he was young, began to occur to his mind. They bet that the loser should jump off the cliff if either of them was defeated in the martial arts competitions. Liang Hu lost the bet, but luckily for him, he was caught up in a tree halfway down the cliff. Afterwards, he wandered alone to Baiyue. Now Lan Wei and Liang Hu are on Ancient Path. Here they meet Cai Xin, from whom they learn that a Qin force was attacking Giant Keep Village and Cai Xin herself was then going to Cloud Rose Village for help. Then Lan Wei and others hurry to Giant Keep Village and kill the Qin invaders( the follow-up plots won't occur unless the Qin force is annihilated completely). Then they meet the head of Giant Keep Village, who later shows his great gratitude to Cai Xin. Cai Xin's father was a Qin man, so villagers had been treating her harshly. But in this time of emergency Cai Xin risked her life to seek reinforcements and everyone feels grateful. They also feel surprised at the timely help from Lan Wei and her companions. Lan Wei tells the village head that her father and Uncle Chi Huan were dead, and she was here now in search of the Empyrean Stones. The village head replies that they once had one of the Empyrean Stones, but unfortunately it had just been stolen by the Qin soldiers. He also heard that the stone was going to be sent to Huan Qi, a Qin general in Jiuyuan City. Huan Qi? That is Cai Xin's father's name! Not wanting to miss the opportunity to find out if this is her father, Cai Xin joins Lan Wei in heading for Jiuyuan City. Before going, Cai Xin goes to her mother's grave to part with her, telling her mother that she is going to look for father in the Central Plains. Branch 8: At the altar in Giant Keep Village, Lan Wei meets the wizard, who tells her that the Vessel of War has gone missing, and he suspects Lin Fen, saying Lin Fen might be embittered about her title of witch being removed and she was just retaliating. At the mountain at the back of Giant Keep Village they meet Lin Fen, who is sacrificing with the Vessel of War. Then there is a fierce fight. Lin Fen is defeated, but she says Lan Wei is facing big trouble. There used to be many giants sealed in the cavern in the mountain, and it was required that there be a sacrificial ceremony every three years to ensure the giants won't break the seal. Today was the time for another sacrificial ceremony, but the newly appointed wizard forgot all about it. So Lin Fen stole the Vessel of War and sacrificed here. Now that the magic was interrupted the giants would soon be breaking out of the cavern. Lin Fen asks Lan Wei and her followers to ask for help from the village and leave her here to fight against the giants. After killing one giant, everyone leaves Lin Fen alone there and hurries to the village to give the alarm. In the village, the wizard tells them that Lin Fen would probably sacrifice herself to seal the giants, so once again people follow Lan Wei back to the mountain to give a hand. But they are too late. The giants are sealed successfully but Lin Fen has lost her life. At her last gasp, Lin Fen asks Lan Wei to send word to the villagers that the giants should be sealed every three years. Lan Wei goes back to the village with the Vessel of War. People all feel regretful that they had misunderstood Lin Fen and they decide to sacrifice on time every three years. Branch 9: Near a house already burnt to the ground sits a villager, staring blankly forward. He says his diamond and crystal jade had been inside the house and it must have been burnt already. Lan Wei tells him that crystal jade couldn't be burnt according to the five-element theory. Stepping into the room, as expected, they really find the crystal jade (to find the crystal jade the team is required to be level seven or above). -------------------------------------------------------------- VIII. Chapter 3 Walkthrough -------------------------------------------------------------- Out of Giant Keep Village it is Ancient Path, and all the way to the west it is Red Clay Village. It is Qin territory. There are three villagers on guard at the side of the village. They stop Lan Wei and her companions from passing. They try every possible way to persuade the villagers and at last they are permitted to get across. But they could only have a short stay. Most of the villagers are not friendly to Lan Wei and other Baiyue people. They seem to be afraid of them. While Lan Wei herself doesn't plan to stay here long, she prepares to go up to Wuxian County from the exit on the right side. At the side of the village they meet a boy called Little Stone. The boy begins to chat with them confidently. To prove himself clever, the boy offers a riddle, while Yan Hong pretends not to be able to answer, just to delight him. After talking to the boy, they leave Redclay Village. Suddenly they hear someone crying for help, so Lan Wei and her followers hurry back to the village, only to find some gangsters there. The gangsters have killed Little Stone, the boy who was calling for help. In a violent rage, Yan Hong kills the gangsters. The villagers become friendly to Lan Wei's group for they have helped them wipe out the gangsters. So now they could rove around in the village and talk freely with the villagers (the branch task will not be finished unless this plot is completed). Branch 1: The group comes to the tavern. Yan Hong asks for some wine, but unfortunately the wine is sold out. The shopkeeper advises them to go to Wang Er's, for all the wine in his shop is provided by Wang Er. Meeting Wang Er, you will be told that his wine is always being stolen mysteriously in recent days. It turns out to be the bats in the storehouse. It is them who drink the wine. Killing the bats, you will be rewarded with some wine by Wang Er, and you will also be rewarded with some gold if you kill the bats in the loft of the tavern. Branch 2: Talking to the villager in the north, you see he lost the axe when cutting firewood. Go to entrance to the village, find the axe on the tree and hand it to the villager. The tree is on the left side of the entrance. Branch 3: Talking to the hunter, you see the black bears were becoming too cunning to be caught recently. To find that out, you go to the jungle to the right side of the village entrance, but on the way on two occasions you fall into the trap. Then the black bear appears. This is a very strange bear because he can even talk. He says he is a clever bear, and complains that Lan Wei has destroyed his traps which are actually set for the hunters. Choices will appear during your talk with the bear, from which please choose "However, you can save me a lot of trouble by volunteering to give me your fur. I must use it to make a dress, you see", then you can get three pieces of skin from the bear. Branch 4: Go to the north of the village you will meet a child, looking rather scared. Liang Hu judges intuitively that something bad must have happened. Taking the child with them to Whitesand Valley, they find the Qin soldiers, as expected. After killing the Qin soldiers they find a man lying dead in the corner of the courtyard. He seems to be the child's father. In the hand of the man, there is a piece of red jade. Show the jade to the child and he will lead you back to Redclay Village. After a talk with the child in the village, he will give the jade to you. Branch 5: Completing Branch 4, now you have got the red jade. Go to Whitesand Valley to meet a man called Jiang Tuo, from whom you will know the red jade is the legendary Blood Jade, which can be used for avoiding evil (better complete these branch tasks, and Jiang Tuo will appear again in many of the following branch tasks). Branch 6: Leaving Redclay Village again all the way to the east, you will see a scholar lying on the ground at his last gasp, a parcel in his arms. Talking with him, Lan Wei finds out his name is Li Yi. A bunch of gangsters were chasing him just for his parcel. Then the gangsters appear, and Lan Wei, together with her companions wipe them out. Then Lan Wei tells Li Yi that it is not wise to risk his life just for a parcel. Li Yi tells her that it is actually the money he earned with his sworn brother, Wang Ren. He is going to send the money to Jiuyuan City. Deeply moved by Li Yi's honesty, Lan Wei makes up her mind to help him send the money. Then Li Yi closes his eyes and passes away. Lan Wei's group leaves Redclay Village for Wuxian County. On the way they meet a very strange old man. After a talk with him they find out he is Cheng Yu. He tells the group that he is also interested in the Empyrean Stones and he has got some books on the Empyrean Stones at his home in Jin Yang City. Cheng Yu invites them to his home to take a look at the books. Lan Wei readily agrees. No sooner have they reached Wuxian County than the group meets a young lad who is being chased by a gang of Qin soldiers. From talking with him they discover he is called Jing Jun. He is going to send a message. The Qin soldiers didn't kill Jing Jun before simply because they want to see who he is going to send the message to. Lan Wei's group just appeared then, so the Qin soldiers assumed that they were the addressees. After killing the Qin soldiers, in the talk with Jing Jun they find out he is Jing Ke's younger brother. Now he is severely injured. On his deathbed Jing Jun asks Lan Wei to send the letter to Gai Nie who is in Yuci, telling Gai Nie to assist Jing Ke in his attempt to assassinate Ying Zheng, the King of Qin. Lan Wei agrees to help. Branch 7: It is getting dark when they arrive in Wuxian County, so Lan Wei decides to start off the next day. After a talk with a young man in the village they decide to put up for the night in Yang Jie's house. Yang Jie says that a thief called Han Xing has been coveting his jewelry, and he is going to steal it tonight. Lan Wei agrees to help watch over it. However, nothing happens. Nobody comes to steal the jewelry. On the following morning, Lan Wei is told by Yang Jie that he has passed the jewelry to his younger brother, Yang Qiang for safekeeping. Lan Wei and her companions then hurry to Yang Qiang's house, only to find he has been beaten up and the Rainbow Jade has been stolen. Then they go back to tell Yang Jie about this. In a flash, Yang Jie realizes that the servant in his house is really Han Xing in disguise. Luckily his brother is safe, so Yang Jie decides not to follow it up. While Lan Wei feels very resentful, thinking once she has the chance, she will teach him a lesson. Leaving Wuxian County and passing Blackwind Woods, they reachYuci, where they encounter Yin Cheng. Lan Wei tells Yin Cheng what has happened concerning Cheng Yu, but Yin Cheng reminds her to beware of trickery. Originally Lan Wei thought it would be very easy to deliver Gai Nie a message, but later she finds it is very difficult to find him in Yuci. She turns to the people in the town for help, but thinking Lan Wei is from Baiyue, they become skeptical and refuse to tell her anything. Later they find an old man. He is blind so he can't recognize they are from Baiyue. From the old man Lan Wei finds out there is a man named Shuang Yang by the side of the river in the north of the town. Meeting Shuang Yang in the north of the town, Cai Xin recognizes him at the very first sight. He is Gai Nie. Then they convey Jing Jun's message to him. But to their surprise, Gai Nie won't leave Yuci, because he wants to take care of his pregnant wife. Leaving Gai Nie's house, they hear Gai Nie and his wife quarreling. Gai Nie's wife is a woman who understands clearly what is important and what is not, and she thinks Gai Nie should go to help Jing Ke instead of looking after her at home. It is getting dark again, and the group go to a small inn to put up for the night. During the night Lan Wei gets up while everyone else is asleep and tries to practice magic, but she is found by Yan Hong. Actually Lan Wei takes it to heart very much that Yan Hong got wounded when protecting her, and she simply wants to become more powerful. When she is talking with Yan Hong, Liang Hu and Cai Xin appear, telling them that the Qin soldiers have surrounded Gai Nie's house and they are pressuring Gai Nie to surrender or else they will kill his wife. Unwilling to get her husband into trouble, Gai Nie's wife kills herself. Afterwards Lan Wei and her group annihilate the Qin soldiers. In the great grief of losing his wife, Gai Nie is thinking of suicide. Everyone tries every possible means to dissuade him and in the end Gai Nie makes a decision to help Jing Ke assassinate the King of Qin, to avenge his dead wife and Jing Jun. Learning that Lan Wei's group is going to Jiuyuan City, Gai Nie decides to join them. Branch 8: There is Tiger Fish cave at the village side of Yuci. From a dealer named Xu Wen near the Tiger Fish cave they find out the Tiger Fish in the cave are very poisonous and they have to buy some antidote from the dealer. The antidotes of Xu Wen are of two kinds. One costs 50 gold while the other 1000 gold. The one costing 50 gold is the authentic antidote while the other is fake, but only buying the fake antidote can trigger the following plots (those who buy the expensive antidote are wealthy, and thus swindlers will think they can cheat them). Then buy the fake antidote, enter the cavern and you will find it ineffective. Now you will try to leave the cavern from the left side, where you will meet Xu Wen, who is thinking the guys who take the fake antidote now are already killed and he is going inside to fetch the money. In a fury, Lan Wei beats Xu Wen up ferociously and at last she gets the real antidote from him. Branch 9: This task won't appear until branch 8 is finished. There is a worn-out chest under the tree in the village, rather breakable. Now a man named Xu Wu appears. He insists that as Lan Wei has broken the offering he made for the God of the Mountain he must have compensation (please don't pay it). After a long negotiation Lan Wei decides to fetch him the spare offering kept in the northern room of the tavern. Entering that room Lan Wei finds a pot, which is so broken that it will fall into pieces once touched. Then a man called Xu Cai turns up. He demands compensation from Lan Wei. Lan Wei has no choice but to give him some money. Stepping out of the room, Lan Wei finds what has happened today is so weird. So she decides to investigate it. From inside a dwelling in the south of the village, Lan Wei hears the conversation between Xu Wen, Xu Wu and Xu Cai. They turn out to be brothers and it is they who planned everything. Breaking into the room, Lan Wei and her companions kill the three cheaters. -------------------------------------------------------------- IX. Chapter 4 Walkthrough -------------------------------------------------------------- Leaving Yuci, and passing Jingyang, the group reach Jinyang. At the gate of the town, thoughts of his parents being killed by the Qin soldiers again come into Yan Hong's mind, and this makes him even more determined to take his revenge. Quite different from the previous cities, Jinyang is a big place. It happens to be market day, so the city is bustling with people going to the market. Cheng Yu says that his home is just near a wineshop. Going along the road to the north you reach his home, only to find nobody is in. After a talk with his neighbours you know Cheng Yu is away at the moment for some urgent business. Having not found Cheng Yu, they know it doesn't make any sense if they keep on staying in Jinyang. Just on their leaving at the eastern gates of the city for Jiuyuan City, they are recognized by Gai Nie, who is later known to be Zhang Liang's friend. On hearing that Gai Nie is going to assist Jing Ke in his planned assassination of Ying Zheng, the King of Qin, Zhang Liang advises him not to take the risk. When it comes to the Empyrean Stones, Zhang Liang says that his teacher, Ji Chen, owns one of the stones. Then Zhang Liang invites Lan Wei's group to Yunzhong Village to pay a visit to Ji Chen. Then everybody agrees to go there together the next morning. Back at the inn, Yan Hong criticises Lan Wei for believing every word Zhang Liang said. Cai Xin speaks up for Lan Wei, and gets into a quarrel with Yan Hong herself over the "Qin people" issue. Cai Xin runs out, crying. Lan Wei, together with Liang Hu and Gai Nie dash out of the house to chase after Cai Xin, leaving Yan Hong in the room on his own to reflect on his behaviour. Talking to the bellman, they find out that Cai Xin has run in the direction of the city gates. Afterwards they meet an old gatekeeper, who tells them Cai Xin has gone to the fields. Meeting Cai Xin in the fields, everyone tries to comfort her. Now Yan Hong appears and makes his apology to her. Now the problem is solved. Seeing that it's already near daybreak, they decide not to go back to the inn. Instead, they start chatting in the fields. Gai Nie begins to recollect the stories of his youth. His parents were both killed by the Huns and it was his master who rescued him, taught him skills and betrothed him to his daughter. It is so sad that he wasn't able to protect his wife...now the day breaks and the group gather at the city gates to meet Zhang Liang, together with whom they will head for Yunzhong Village. Branch 1: At the tavern and some other places in the city you will hear that the son of Peng Wudi in Peng Wudi's House has contracted a very strange illness, and they are searching for a doctor. Coming to Peng Wudi's House in the west of the city and meeting Peng Wudi as well as his sworn brother, Yi Fei, Lan Wei promises to cure his son. In the patient's bedchamber, Lan Wei discovers that he has been poisoned because his symptoms remind her of when she once was poisoned in the Tiger Fish cave. In a flash she also remembers that the cheater who sells fake medicine once told her about the prescription for the antidote. It is Tiger Fish meat, the fruit of the wolfberry and snow lotus. Giving this prescription to Peng Wudi, Lan Wei is asked to get Tiger Fish meat, while the rest of the ingredients are left to Yi Fei. There is a Tiger Fish cave in the southwest corner outside Peng Wudi's House. Go inside the cave and kill the Tiger Fish, you will get the meat, but please note that there are two kinds of Tiger Fish meat, and each kind has different uses, one is for the treatment of the illness and the other is for enriching the blood. You can only use the one that treats illness via talking with NPCs. To get the meat, you have to kill the Tiger Fish in the deepest reaches of the cave. After getting the meat and meeting Peng Wudi, Lan Wei is asked to prepare the antidote in the kitchen. After talking to Yi Fei, Lan Wei goes to the west yard kitchen. At last with the antidote they successfully cure the son of Peng Wudi. Back in Peng Wudi's living room, Lan Wei tells him that his son's being poisoned was not accidental and someone must have planned it. Then Peng Wudi asks Lan Wei to investigate this, saying Yi Fei could assist her. Coming to Yi Fei's room to make inquiries, Lan Wei finds nothing suspicious (now please continue to talk with Yi Fei until he says "No, we haven't had any strangers visit us recently."). Then talk to the chef, keep talking to him until he says that the Peng family once employed two craftsmen to make a folding screen and these two men once got him drunk during a dinner. Having looked over the folding screen in the room, Lan Wei finds the proof of poisoning. Immediately Lan Wei runs to ask Yi Fei about the two craftsmen. From Yi Fei's ambiguous response Lan Wei finds out that the two men are staying in the two guest rooms in the west yard. Now go to the craftsmen's |
