if i make a sim and make another one can those two get married?

When i quit playing the sims 3, whenever i go back on, something new happens and i didnt even play! its really annoying and i dnt no how to stop it! like for example one time i went back on and there was a baby on my doorstep! help please?

so is the sims 3 the real deal, can they get married and have babies etc..
