if you want to fast in gain experience you can use skirmish mode and use your design map
in editor mode make your place to be guarded by tower and place much lair in
everywhere,good luck

Make a map with a bunch of resources and a boatload of quest buildings and put all of the
enemy starting positions on the other side of a river with no resources. Each quest gives
exp, just run through completing every quest that can be completed with resourse
expenditure, and repeat ad nauseum. If you do it enough times you should have several
units capable of crossing the water and wiping the floor with them.
